Development of a Hybrid Method for Multi-Stage End-to-End Recognition of Grocery Products in Shelf Images

Product recognition on grocery shelf images is a compelling task of object detection because of the similarity between products, the presence of the different scale of product sizes, and the high number of classes, in addition to constantly renewed packaging and added new products’ difficulty in data collection. The use of conventional methods alone is not enough to solve a number of retail problems such as planogram compliance, stock tracking on shelves, and customer support. The purpose of this study is to achieve significant results using the suggested multi-stage end-to-end process, including product detection, product classification, and refinement. The comparison of different methods is provided by a traditional computer vision approach, Aggregate Channel Features (ACF) and Single-Shot Detectors (SSD) are used in the product detection stage, and Speed-up Robust Features (SURF), Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Key points (BRISK), Oriented Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST), Rotated Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features (BRIEF) (ORB), and hybrids of these methods are used in the product classification stage. The experimental results used the entire Grocery Products dataset and its different subsets with a different number of products and images. The best performance was achieved with the use of SSD in the product detection stage and the hybrid use of SURF, BRISK, and ORB in the product classification stage, respectively. Additionally, the proposed approach performed comparably or better than existing models.

Automated segmentation and classification of hand thermal images in rheumatoid arthritis using machine learning algorithms: A comparison with quantum machine learning technique

The aims and objectives of the study were to i) perform image segmentation using a color-based k-means clustering algorithm and feature extraction using binary robust invariant scalable key points (BRISK), maximum stable extremal regions (MSER), features from accelerated segment test (FAST), Harris, and orientated FAST and rotated BRIEF (ORB); ii) compare the performance of classical machine learning techniques such as LogitBoost, Bagging, and SVM with a quantum machine learning technique. For the proposed study, 240 hand thermal images were acquired in the dorsal view and ventral view of both the right and left-hand regions of RA and normal subjects. The hot spot regions from the thermograms were segmented using a color-based k-means clustering technique. The features from the segmented hot spot region were extracted using different feature extraction methods. Finally, normal and RA groups were categorized using LogitBoost, Bagging, and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers. The proposed study used two testing methods, such as 10-fold cross-validation and a percentage split of 80–20%. The LogitBoost classifier outperformed with an accuracy of 93.75% using the 10-fold cross-validation technique compared to other classifiers. Also, the quantum support vector machine (QSVM) obtained a prediction accuracy of 92.7%. Furthermore, the QSVM model reduces the computational cost and training time of the model to classify the RA and normal subjects. Thus, thermograms with classical machine learning and quantum machine learning algorithms could be considered a feasible technique for classifying normal and RA groups.

An efficient registration-based approach for retinal blood vessel segmentation using generalized Pareto and fatigue pdf.

Segmentation of Retinal Blood Vessel (RBV) extraction in the retina images and Registration of segmented RBV structure is implemented to identify changes in vessel structure by ophthalmologists in diagnosis of various illnesses like Glaucoma, Diabetes, and Hypertension's. The Retinal Blood Vessel provides blood to the inner retinal neurons, RBV are located mainly in internal retina but it may partly in the ganglion cell layer, following network failure haven't been identified with past methods. Classifications of accurate RBV and Registration of segmented blood vessels are challenging tasks in the low intensity background of Retinal Image. So, we projected a novel approach of segmentation of RBV extraction used matched filter of Generalized Pareto Probability Distribution Function (pdf) and Registration approach on feature-based segmented retinal blood vessel of Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Key point (BRISK). The BRISK provides the predefined sampling pattern as compared to Pdf. The BRISK feature is implemented for attention point recognition & matching approach for change in vessel structure. The proposed approaches contain 3 levels: pre-processing, matched filter-based Generalized Pareto pdf as a source along with the novel approach of fatigue pdf as a target, and BRISK framework is used for Registration on segmented retinal images of supply & intention images. This implemented system's performance is estimated in experimental analysis by the Average accuracy, Normalized Cross-Correlation (NCC), and computation time process of the segmented retinal source and target image. The NCC is main element to give more statistical information about retinal image segmentation. The proposed approach of Generalized Pareto value pdf has Average Accuracy of 95.21%, NCC of both image pairs is 93%, and Average accuracy of Registration of segmented source images and the target image is 98.51% respectively. The proposed approach of average computational time taken is around 1.4s, which has been identified on boundary condition of Pdf function.

A Fully Pipelined FPGA Architecture for Multiscale BRISK Descriptors With a Novel Hardware-Aware Sampling Pattern

Binary descriptors have been shown to be faster than nonbinary descriptors while producing comparable results in image matching applications. In recent years, there have been many attempts to design hardware accelerators for extraction of binary descriptors to achieve higher processing rates. One of the well-known methods is the binary robust invariant scalable key point (BRISK) algorithm, which has shown outstanding results in various applications. In this work, we propose a multiscale field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based hardware architecture for the BRISK descriptor. In addition, a new image sampling pattern for the BRISK algorithm is described which is shown to be more efficient than the original sampling pattern for hardware implementation. Our new sampling pattern decreases the size of the patches containing the key point to one-quarter of the size of that used in the original BRISK algorithm, which leads to a reduction in FPGA resource utilization while maintaining the accuracy of the image matching application. Our proposed design is fully pipelined and achieves a frame rate of 78 fps on images with full HD resolution.

Implementation of Visual Sentiment Analysis on Flickr Images

Visual sentiment analysis is the way to automatically recognize positive and negative emotions from images, videos, graphics and stickers. To estimate the polarity of the sentiment evoked by images in terms of positive or negative sentiment, most of the state of the art works exploit the text associated with a social post provided by the user. However, such textual data is typically noisy due to the subjectivity of the user, which usually includes text useful to maximize the diffusion of the social post. This System will extract three views: visual view, subjective text view and objective text view of Flickr images and will give sentiment polarity positive, negative or neutral based on the hypothesis table. Subjective text view gives sentiment polarity using VADER (Valence Aware Dictionary and sEntiment Reasoner) and objective text view gives sentiment polarity with three convolution neural network models. This system implements VGG-16, Inception-V3 and ResNet-50 convolution neural networks with pre pre-trained ImageNet dataset. The text extracted through these three convolution networks is given to VADER as input to find sentiment polarity. This system implements visual view using a bag of visual word model with BRISK (Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Key points) descriptor. System has a training dataset of 30000 positive, negative and neutral images. All the three views’ sentiment polarity is compared. The final sentiment polarity is calculated as positive if two or more views gives positive sentiment polarity, as negative if two or more views gives negative sentiment polarity and as neutral if two or more views gives neutral sentiment polarity. If all three views give unique polarity then the polarity of the objective text view is given as output sentiment polarity.

Efficient Segmentation and Registration of Retinal Image Using Gumble Probability Distribution and BRISK Feature

The registration of segmented retinal images is mainly used for the diagnosis of various diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes, and hypertension, etc. These retinal diseases depend on the retinal vessel structure. The fast and accurate registration of segmented retinal images helps to identify the changes in vessels and the diagnosis of the diseases. This paper presents a novel binary robust invariant scalable key point (BRISK) feature-based segmented retinal image registration approach. The BRISK framework is an efficient keypoint detection, description, and matching approach. The proposed approach contains three steps, namely, pre-processing, segmentation using matched filter based Gumbel pdf, and BRISK framework for registration of segmented source and target retinal images. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by evaluating the normalized cross-correlation of image pairs. Based on the experimental analysis, it has been observed that the performance of the proposed approach is better in both aspect, registration performance as well as computation time with respect to SURF and Harris partial intensity invariant feature descriptor based registration.

Study and Performance Evaluation Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints (BRISK) for Underwater Image Stitching

In this paper, performance evaluation of Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Key points (BRISK) for underwater image stitching is presented. Underwater image stitching is quite challenging because usually images produced by underwater cameras have few features and noise such as motion blur and underexposure. In this paper, we proposed a robust algorithm for the underwater image stitching which consists of several stages: taking an image frame, getting a key point using BRISK, feature matching using Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC), homography estimation, and perspective warping. The experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm can be implemented for underwater image and achieve better matching results even the less detected keypoints.

Hybrid Invariant Local Features for Multiple Satellite Image Matching and Registration

Automatic image registration (IR) is very challenging and very important in the field of hyperspectral remote sensing data. Efficient autonomous IR method is needed with high precision, fast, and robust. A key operation of IR is to align the multiple images in single co-ordinate system for extracting and identifying variation between images considered. In this paper, presented a feature descriptor by combining features from both Feature from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST) and Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Key point (BRISK). The proposed hybrid invariant local features (HILF) descriptor extract useful and similar feature sets from reference and source images. The feature matching method allows finding precise relationship or matching among two feature sets. An experimental analysis described the outcome BRISK, FASK and proposed HILF in terms of inliers ratio and repeatability evaluation metrics.

IMAGE FUSION FOR MULTIFOCUS IMAGES USING SPEEDUP ROBUST FEATURES

The multi-focus image fusion technique has emerged as major topic in image processing in order to generate all focus images with increased depth of field from multi focus photographs. Image fusion is the process of combining relevant information from two or more images into a single image. The image registration technique includes the entropy theory. Speed up Robust Features (SURF), feature detector and Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Key points (BRISK) feature descriptor is used in feature matching process. An improved RANDOM Sample Consensus (RANSAC) algorithm is adopted to reject incorrect matches. The registered images are fused using stationary wavelet transform (SWT).The experimental results prove that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance for unregistered multiple multi-focus images and it especially robust to scale and rotation translation compared with traditional direct fusion method.
