For automobile manufacturers, the tire is of great importance in tuning the performance of their vehicles. It is because, the tire is the main link between road surface and vehicle (vehicle suspension, chassis, steering system). Therefore, tire has always been a research topic for these manufacturers. For uneven road surface, first obtaining the effective road surface is very important as actual road profile cannot be used for tire models, and to obtain the effective road surface, enveloping behaviour of tire is used. The tandem cam enveloping model is used in this paper. In the presented work, the mathematical modelling for the enveloping behaviour of tire is done with the help of MATLAB software. The method developed has some iterative points which will be evaluated for each position of actual road surface and hence guiding or deciding the motion of the elliptical cam over the road surface. And thus, the enveloping behaviour of tire can be obtained. The method developed can be very helpful for providing appropriate inputs to MF-Swift model and quarter car model for evaluating various responses which can give a clear view of understanding the tire dynamics.
