This study aims to describe and analyze the safety behavior of residents towards emergency disaster mitigation efforts around the Samarinda Fuel Terminal. This research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method. The population is all heads of families in the RT 27 area of Teluk Lerong Ulu Village as many as 44 people and all of them are used as research samples (total sampling). Data collection was carried out on June 1-20 2023 by direct interview method using a questionnaire with a closed list of questions. The results of the study obtained information that most residents stated the importance of installing evacuation routes in disaster-prone environments such as fire hazards, residents stated that evacuation route signs should be installed using materials that are not flammable and not easily damaged and are willing to take part in disaster simulation activities and maintain Evacuation sign facilities that have been installed at this time.

A pilot initiative to enhance quality improvement teaching with simulation.

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) is a recognised competency across residency programmes. Although a variety of teaching modalities exist, many do not represent the multifaceted clinical environment that trainees work in. Residents have reported challenges in linking QIPS classroom-based learning with their clinical duties. High-fidelity simulation has been used to bridge this gap within clinical skills teaching and therefore has potential to address this issue in QIPS learning. We developed and piloted four high-fidelity simulation scenarios with 15 surgical residents (Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Neurosurgery). Each scenario contained elements of both latent and active safety errors. Residents were provided with a short pre-reading from an open-access resource on basic QIPS methodology and underwent a debriefing by a trained QIPS faculty. Residents were then tasked to apply their learning to their scenario to develop a QIPS-focused solution. Objective knowledge acquisition was assessed with the Quality Improvement Knowledge Assessment Tool-Revised (QIKAT-R) in conjunction with a survey based upon the Kirkpatrick Model of Learning. Overall, residents agreed that the simulation was helpful in learning QIPS methodology and agreed that they could perform fundamental QIPS tasks. The average QIKAT-R score demonstrated a trend towards improvement. High-fidelity simulation is a potential means to provide residents with hands-on experience in QIPS knowledge acquisition and application. Future directions should aim to compare the efficacy of simulation with other teaching modalities and evaluate the long-term impact of QIPS teaching on resident behaviours and motivation to take part in QIPS initiatives.

Nurse perspectives on the assessment of emergency medicine residents: A qualitative study.

Multisource and 360-degree feedback are emerging methods in the medical education assessment literature. Nursing feedback in particular has been identified as a point of emphasis regarding what medical education leadership would most value for incorporating into their evaluations. There is no currently accepted tool for multisource feedback in the emergency department (ED). To answer this call, we conducted a qualitative study to elucidate nurse perspectives on evaluation of emergency medicine residents. We conducted individual semistructured interviews of ED nurses with experience working alongside residents via volunteer recruitment. Transcripts were coded independently by each author and then reviewed collaboratively to resolve differences. Codes were created by inductive thematic analysis and subsequently underwent constant comparison and classical content analysis. Recruitment continued until analysis of transcripts showed thematic saturation. We organized the interview transcript into chunks of information, arranging 407 quotes from the 10 interview transcripts into 17 codes and six themes regarding observable resident behaviors. Representative quotes and exemplar cases added detailed description to the meaning of these codes. The identified themes for observable resident behaviors included "general communication style," "medical knowledge," "efficiency," "patient communication," "nurse communication," and "professionalism." An additional 13 codes addressed the themes of barriers and catalysts for feedback. The identified themes on observable resident behaviors aligned well with prior literature and with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Milestones. The interviews also highlighted nurse perspectives on barriers and catalysts for feedback that would be useful to incorporate into the design of an assessment tool.

Identifying Habitat Selection Concept as Results of Place Attachment Phenomenon in Kampung Keputran, Surabaya

This study investigates the complex phenomenon of place attachment and its impact on the formation and preservation of individual and communities’ identities to its cultural environment. Keputran kampung, situated in Surabaya's central business district, faces unique challenges such as annual flooding and the risk of eviction due to land ownership issues. Using qualitative descriptive research, including character appraisal, interviews, and observations, this study examines the place attachment phenomenon and its implications for its habitat selection concepts. Findings reveal the rapid development and strong characteristics of Keputran Village, classified as a attachment to a place stage with six identified factors influencing habitat selection on the residents' cultural aspects, emotions, cognition, and behavior. This study sheds light on the multifaceted nature of place attachment and its role in shaping the habitat selection concepts of Keputran kampung.

A comparison of self-reported chronic disease, health awareness and behaviours in social housing residents: cross-sectional study of communities in Ontario and Quebec

ObjectiveSocial housing programs are integral to making housing more affordable to Canadian seniors living in poverty. Although the programs are similar across Canada, there may be inter-provincial differences among the health of residents that could guide the development of interventions. This study explores the health of low-income seniors living in social housing in Quebec and compares it with previously reported data from Ontario.Results80 responses were obtained in Quebec to compare with the previously reported Ontario data (n = 599) for a total of 679 responses. More Ontario residents had access to a family doctor (p < 0.001). Quebec residents experienced less problems with self-care (p = 0.017) and less mobility issues (p = 0.052). The visual analog scale for overall health state was similar in both provinces (mean = 67.36 in Ontario and 69.23 in Quebec). Residents in Quebec smoked more cigarettes per day (p = 0.009). More residents in Ontario participated in moderate physical activity (p = 0.09), however, they also spent more time per day on the computer (p = 0.006).

Language politics and prestige in The Walled City: an exploratory study of the linguistic landscape of Intramuros, Manila

Abstract Tupas and Lorente (2014. A ‘new’ politics of language in the Philippines: Bilingual education and the new challenge of the mother tongues. In Peter Sercombe &amp; Ruanni Tupas (eds.), Language, education and nation-building: Assimilation and shift in Southeast Asia, 165–180. New York: Springer) contended that “the politics of language in the Philippines always featured the tension between English on the one hand and the vernacular languages on the other.” But how exactly does this language dynamic manifest itself in the linguistic landscapes (LL) of the Philippines? To explore this question, this paper conducted an exploratory LL analysis of Intramuros, the famed “Walled City” of Manila, using Scollon and Scollon’s (2003. Discourses in place: Language in the material world. London: Routledge) place semiotics and Ben-Rafael et al.’s (2006. Linguistic landscape as symbolic construction of the public space: The case of Israel. International Journal of Multilingualism 3(1). 7–30) top-down and bottom-up sign classification. It found that English-based signs are used to accommodate a global audience, i.e., foreign tourists, whereas Filipino-based signs are used to police and regulate the behavior of residents and, to a certain extent, local tourists. To conclude, it argued that by looking at its linguistic landscape, historical districts like Intramuros articulate beliefs and assumptions on language that, in turn, make them deeply political and ideological sites.

Understanding invisible pain in the older adult: a content analysis of social media's representation of herpes zoster vaccine.

Herpes zoster (HZ), a common disease in older adults, affects their quality of life. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the blog posts of HZ-related information on social media platforms to analyze the attitudes and behaviors of residents toward the dissemination of health information. This research used content analysis to focus on Weibo, a representative social media in China, to analyze the content of 1866 blog posts related to herpes zoster (HZ) and herpes zoster vaccine (HZV). According to the consistency test by Cohen's Kappa, four themes were identified: (a) sources, (b) tones, (c) epidemiological information, and (d) extended parallel process model elements. The findings showed that most information on Weibo came from non-professionals, with a neutral tone, and showed the invisible pain of HZ and the effectiveness of HZV through the two largest aspects of prevention and aged protection in epidemiological information. However, current blog posts treat the older adult as invisible individuals, failing to acknowledge them as recipients of the information. Additionally, the cost of the vaccine acts as an invisible economic barrier, contributing to the dissemination of incorrect information about folk remedies. This impacts the older adult's acceptance of health information related to HZV. Thus, the way to share health information with the older adult needs to be improved in the future, and attention should be paid to the transmission of incorrect information to improve their vaccination rates and awareness of health management.

The Effect of Pro-Environmental Destination Image on Resident Environmental Citizenship Behavior: The Mediating Roles of Satisfaction and Pride

Despite the lengthy history of the research on destination image from various perspectives, how pro-environmental destination image promotes resident environmental citizenship behavior remains underexplored. Grounded in the cognition–affect–behavior (CAB) model, this research investigated the translation of pro-environmental destination image into resident environmental citizenship behavior via satisfaction and pride. Data were collected using an intercept survey approach from a tourism village recognized as one of the best in the world by UNWTO. The results indicated that a pro-environmental destination image has a positive impact on resident environmental citizenship behavior in the private and public domains. Furthermore, resident satisfaction and pride serve as mediators between pro-environmental destination image and resident environmental citizenship behavior. This research contributes to the literature on resident environmental citizenship behavior by considering the role of pro-environmental destination image. The findings provide practical implications for fostering environmental citizenship behavior through the presentation of pro-environmental images to residents and eliciting their positive emotions.

The Plastic-Reduction Behavior of Chinese Residents: Survey, Model, and Impact Factors

The persistent generation of plastic waste represents a critical environmental challenge. Despite the implementation of various management policies spanning from usage to disposal that are aimed at incentivizing plastic reduction, the accumulation of plastic debris continues to pose a significant threat to both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Moreover, this environmental issue adversely impacts economic development and human health. This study seeks to analyze the influencing factors of plastic-reduction behavior at the individual level. Through a diverse sample of 869 participants across 29 provincial-level administrative regions, this research utilizes structural equation modeling to elucidate the intricate factors influencing plastic-reduction behaviors. This study examines the factors influencing plastic-reduction behavior through the frameworks of economic savings and spiritual satisfaction, focusing on two specific behavioral intentions: economically driven behavior and spiritually driven persuasive behavior. Results show that the primary motivator for plastic reduction is the decrease in individual expenses. Environmental values and policy regulations have become important influencing factors, which also promote behaviors regarding plastic reduction through economic savings. The study distinguishes between the impacts of environmental knowledge and skills, highlighting the necessity of practical skills for effective behavior change. Moreover, the study reveals the pivotal role of local attachment in encouraging plastic-reduction actions. The urban natural environment, particularly when characterized by accessible and well-maintained features, such as lakes and rivers, can foster residents’ appreciation for the environment, thereby motivating them to engage in plastic-reduction actions to attain personal spiritual satisfaction.

Property-level adaptation to pluvial flooding: An analysis of individual behaviour and risk communication material

Integrated risk management requires all stakeholders to work together proactively. Residents of floodplains can participate by implementing property-level adaptive measures. Risk communication materials can motivate those households to do so. Research on these materials is limited. Therefore, we systematically assessed freely available German risk communication materials in terms of their recommendations and how their content aligns with behavioural theories. We compare these results with data from surveyed households affected by urban flooding (N = 1,352) on their attitudes towards flood adaptation and the adaptation measures implemented.209 risk communication materials were reviewed. Adaptation options (mostly evasion or resistance strategies) were communicated in 93%, the hazard itself in 78%, the local hazard situation in 48%, and responsibilities in risk management in 54% of the risk communication materials. These aspects were rarely broken down for the reader by, for example, presenting the damage that can be expected or by presenting measures with the expected costs or their response efficacy. However, these details commonly increase the adaptive behaviour of residents according to commonly used behavioural theories.Survey data indicated that households feel able (82%) and responsible (41%) for implementing adaptive measures. However, many households indicated that measures are not effective (41%), too expensive (34%), and that there are not enough support programs (87%). We recommend that future risk communication materials focus more on communicating the efficacy and costs of adaptive measures and highlight funding opportunities. Our mixed method approach highlighted mismatches in information needed and provided.

Impact of information provision on tsunami evacuation behavior of residents and international tourists in Japan

Effective disaster management can help mitigate both human and financial damage. However, the absence of appropriate disaster preparedness and management efforts can increase the vulnerability of international tourists to natural disasters. International tourists differ from residents and local tourists in various ways, including limited knowledge of disasters and disaster responses, use of different languages, limited access to signs, and shelter locations and evacuation routes. This study developed an agent-based evacuation model to determine the differences in evacuation behaviors among international tourists, residents, and local tourists during a tsunami. Further, it clarified the impact of both soft and hard countermeasures such as information provision and shelter capacity expansion. Our case study was conducted in the Minato Bay area in Osaka, Japan. The simulation results revealed disparities in the evacuation behaviors between international tourists and residents in the arrival times at shelters. The enhanced sign accessibility and provision of signs in multiple languages significantly reduced the arrival time of international tourists at shelters. Consequently, it is necessary to improve disaster management plans that ensure information provision in multiple languages and the establishment of temporary shelters near tourism spots to support international tourists during disaster evacuation.

Habitat and movement selection processes of American lobster/jakej within a restricted bay in the Bras d’Or Lake/Pitu’paq, Nova Scotia, Canada

American lobster inhabit the unique, brackish Bras d’Or Lake system, although densities are low compared to areas with similar habitats in the Atlantic Ocean. Nevertheless, lobsters are an important part of local First Nation (Mi’kmaq) food and culture. We used acoustic telemetry and habitat mapping, combined with local Mi’kmaw knowledge, to document the movements and habitat use of adult lobsters within a section of the Lake. Movement patterns of acoustically tagged individual lobsters were analyzed with both resource selection functions and integrated step selection functions using data obtained from a high-resolution VEMCO Positioning System within a restricted bay in the Bras d’Or Lake. The resource selection function suggested stronger selections of substrates that contained a combination of soft and hard sediments. While the integrated step selection functions found substantial individual variability in habitat selections, there was a trend for lobsters to exhibit more resident behaviour on the combined soft/hard substrates despite the fact these sediments provided little in the way of obvious shelters for the animals. Adult lobsters at this site have very little risk of predation, which presumably allows them to freely exhibit exploratory behaviours and reduce their association with substrates that provide shelters.

Investigating social communication in mice: A two-intruders test approach.

Understanding the complex dynamics of social communication behaviors, such as exploration, communication, courtship, mating, and aggression in animal models, is crucial to reveal key neural and hormonal mechanisms underlying these behaviors. The two-intruders test is designed to investigate residents' behavior toward both male and female intruders within the home cage of the test male. During this test imitating natural conditions, several aspects of social interaction were investigated: Exploration, courtship, mating, and aggressive behavior. As mating and aggression involve overlapping neural circuits, the behavioral setup testing both behaviors is best at reflecting their competitive nature. Our findings demonstrate that resident male mice exhibit strong preference to communicate with a female intruder, which correlates with baseline testosterone levels of test males. Relevant female preference in the two-intruders test was also found in BALB/c males. Behavioral breakdown revealed the anogenital sniffing as a key behavioral feature that discriminates resident male behavior toward intruders of different sex. Furthermore, resident male interaction with female intruder was accompanied by neuronal activation in the ventromedial hypothalamus. We demonstrate that odor recognition underlies preference toward females in male residents, as experimental anosmia reduced communication with a female intruder. We conclude the two-intruders test setup to be a useful tool to study the neurological basis of social communication in animal models, which provides detailed analysis of various aspects of the laboratory animals' social behavior in the most natural conditions.

Strong site fidelity, residency and local behaviour of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) at two types of artificial reefs in an offshore wind farm.

Globally, biogenic temperate reefs are among the most threatened habitats. In the North Sea in particular, large shellfish reefs were lost owing to fishing activities in the 1900s. The impact of offshore wind farms (OWFs) on marine wildlife is extensive, and it offers the possibility to reintroduce new hard substrate habitats that are protected from fisheries at a large scale. In addition to the submerged structures of OWFs, marine hard substrate habitat can be further enhanced by providing extra artificial reefs. In an operational OWF along the Dutch coast, four artificial reefs (two with a scour bed and two without) were deployed in the vicinity of a wind turbine. Acoustic telemetry was used to monitor the fine-scale movement of 64 Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). The monitoring ran from July 2021 to January 2023. Detailed information on behaviour, area utilization and attraction to the structures was determined. Results showed strong attraction (high site fidelity and residency) to the artificial reef, with no significant difference between the two tested types of reefs, and only a few individuals staying over winter. Cod spent a large proportion of their time hiding in the artificial reefs, suggesting that adding pipes for shelter has a beneficiary effect.

Associations between the built environment and travel to higher-order centers in Chinese rural areas

Encouraging travel to higher-order centers is important for enhancing the quality of life of rural residents and promoting rural development. Although the literature shows that the built environment influences travel behavior, few studies have explored the relationship between the built environment and the frequency of travel to higher-order centers, particularly in rural contexts. Even less attention has been given to the synergetic effects that occur across built environment elements and county heterogeneity. Using data from 659 respondents in three Chinese counties collected between 2019 and 2020, we applied multilevel ordered logistic models to explore the associations between the rural built environment and travel frequency to higher-order centers (including townships, counties, and city centers). The results show that rural residents' travel frequency to higher-order centers decreases with increasing distance from such centers. The relationships between built environment elements and travel frequency to higher-order centers differ according to the level of such centers. Moreover, built environment elements exert synergetic impacts on travel frequency to higher-order centers. The association of the built environment with travel frequency to higher-order centers is moderated by the developmental levels of counties. These findings suggest that interventions in the rural built environment are important for ensuring the enhancement of rural resident travel behavior and access to better services, which, in turn, benefits rural revitalization.

APPROACHES TO DEFINING CRITERIA AND INDICATORS FOR ASSESSING FINANCIALLY LITERATE BEHAVIOR OF THE POPULATION OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION

The article analyzes various approaches to the interpretation of the concepts of “criterion” and “indicator”; during the analysis, interpretations are derived that are taken as the basis for the development of criteria and indicators for assessing the financially literate behavior of Russian residents. The text provides an overview of studies assessing the financially literate behavior of residents of the Russian Federation, in particular the following studies were considered: “Financial literacy of Russians - 2023”, conducted by the National Agency for Financial Research (NAFI); “Study of the level of financial literacy” (stage 4), conducted by the FOM commissioned by the Bank of Russia and “Barometer of economic behavior of households in Russia”, conducted by specialists from the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Based on the analysis of the Strategy for Improving Financial Literacy and Forming a Financial Culture until 2030, in the context of the goals, objectives and expected results from its implementation and analysis of the criteria and indicators taken as a basis within the framework of the previously listed studies, criteria and indicators were proposed for assessing financially literate behavior Russians at three levels: the sphere of personal finance, the sphere of public finance and the sphere of financial security, including financial cybersecurity.

Community Perception of Biogas Production from Cacao Waste

Indonesia can use bioenergy to meet its renewable energy consumption target. Community perception must be known when designing communication strategies or policies regarding biogas as a renewable energy source. This study aims to 1) evaluate the knowledge, attitude, behavior, and overall perception of the Gambiran Hamlet, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia residents on biogas from cacao waste, and 2) investigate the factors affecting the perception of the Gambiran Hamlet residents on biogas. Socio-economic data were collected by doing surveys and observation. One sample t-test was conducted to determine the perception of the Gambiran Hamlet community towards biogas made from cacao waste. Moreover, logistic regression was used to determine the factors affecting the perception of biogas. Most of the residents can define biogas properly. Moreover, the residents' attitude and behavior were positive regarding relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, and observability components. Gambiran Hamlet residents’ perception of biogas from cacao waste is positive. Furthermore, the higher the educational attainment and being male, the greater the chance of a positive perception of biogas. However, household size, age, and income are statistically insignificant. Furthermore, socialization, training, and mentoring are needed for biogas installation. This research successfully provides fresh insights into residents' perception of biogas from cacao waste and uncovers key factors, like gender and education, influencing their perception, offering valuable guidance for targeted policy and communication strategies.

THE ROLE OF OPEN-AIR CALVARIES IN THE CONTEXT OF LANDSCAPE HERITAGE PROTECTION OF THE EASTERN SUDETES

The article concerns the meaning and landscape functions of Small Calvaries located in the Eastern Sudetes in the border area of the Czech Republic and Poland. The publication aims to indicate the main typological features of this type of calvary, taking into account the current behaviour of residents having a common sarcastic heritage. Due to the subject, interdisciplinary research was undertaken in the direction of valorization as well as environmental interviews. The use of geosociological methodology made it possible to assess the landscape in terms of its contemporary functions and potential threats. The research allowed us to distinguish two types of landscape layouts: elliptical and linear of a historical nature, and modern, mainly linear. Sociological research showed the attitude of local communities to the sacred heritage in the Eastern Sudetes.

Subsidizing residents or companies? An equilibrium-based analysis of subsidy strategies for EV charging facilities

This study examines the charging location choice behavior of residents in relation to employer-provided charging facilities and investigates the impact of different government subsidy strategies for charging facility construction on urban spatial structure and traffic-related air pollution. Using a monocentric two-zone city model, we analyze the residential distribution and travel mode choice of urban residents under various subsidy strategies from the perspective of social planners. The government can optimize urban resource allocation through transport infrastructure investments and implementation of emission taxes to maximize the so-called residents’ utility. We observe that despite the distorting effect of employer-provided charging facilities on travel mode choice, residents still experience an enhanced utility due to the positive environmental impact resulting from reduced pollution levels associated with electric vehicles (EVs) compared to gasoline vehicles (GVs). We provide numerical evidence to show that government subsidies, whether directed towards companies or residents, can effectively enhance the adoption of EVs and improve utility. In low-density cities, it is advisable for the government to encourage and subsidize residents in building charging facilities. Conversely, in high-density cities, prioritizing subsidies for companies would be more beneficial in improving utility and expanding the coverage of charging facilities. Furthermore, in cities where resident environmental awareness is relatively low, it is recommended that the government increase subsidies to promote EV adoption.

Categorizing resident evacuation behaviors within a flood-protected area

ABSTRACT Flood management due to global warming is one of the most important issues to be considered worldwide. Communicating about flood risk between government and residents is important for enhancing awareness of residents’ evacuation. However, not enough risk information is provided to residents for evacuation from floods (e.g. where, when, and how to evacuate). Therefore, an evacuation analysis linked with a time series of inundation depths was conducted in Kawajima Town, which is surrounded by a ring levee in the watershed of the Arakawa River, Japan. According to the analysis of evacuation by walking, the evacuation should be started by the time an evacuation instruction is issued to avoid getting caught in flooding before reaching shelters. Although the analysis of evacuation by car did not consider road and bridge closures, it indicated that approximately 40% of the town’s residents would likely have difficulty evacuating to even the nearest bridge or road. The central and southern part of the town was also identified as an area where a wide-area evacuation, i.e. outside the town, would be difficult if road and bridge closures were considered. The risk map identifies high-risk areas and districts in the central, southern, and southwestern parts of the town. It also indicates the need for structures for emergent use, such as small mounds or towers for evacuation starting at the breaching time (BT) in these areas. Since there is no area where all residents can evacuate at the start of breaching time, it is necessary to start evacuation to shelters immediately after the evacuation instruction is issued. Because the number of municipalities with similar problems will increase in the future in Japan, the study of evacuation plans from flood inundation for residents in Kawajima Town is expected to serve as a model case for other municipalities to consider.
