The Visit of Pope Francis: An Inter-theological Perspective in Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Tolerant Religious Life in Indonesia

Pope Francis' visit to Indonesia was crucial in strengthening Indonesia-Vatican diplomatic relations and religious harmony. This study examines the impact of the visit on pluralism and interfaith dialogue, particularly between Muslim and Catholic communities. Through an inter theological approach, this study explores theological messages related to love and human dignity and their relevance in strengthening interfaith relations. The results of the study are expected to contribute to encouraging closer and more harmonious cooperation in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data collection techniques were used to identify and collect relevant literature sources, including journal articles, books, and reports. The data analysis technique was conducted by exploring Indonesia's social and cultural context to understand the dynamics that occur. Pope Francis affirmed the importance of interfaith dialogue, especially between Catholics and Muslims, to strengthen religious harmony. By promoting love and respect for human dignity, the Pope encourages cooperation in facing social challenges such as poverty and radicalism. The dialogue should go beyond tolerance, creating closer and more peaceful relationships. This initiative is expected to strengthen interfaith brotherhood and encourage a more harmonious and inclusive life amid Indonesia's religious diversity.

MULTICULTURALISM IDEOLOGY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF BURCEK ART IN BUDAKELING VILLAGE, KARANGASEM, BALI

Burcek art is a combination of Islamic Burdah and Balinese Cekepung in Budakeling Village which is full of multicultural values to convey the message of the importance of religious harmony. This research aims to dismantle the ideology of multiculturalism in Burcek art with a cultural studies approach. Data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and document study. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation and data verification, then interpretation was carried out using several critical theories. This research found that the development of Burcek art in Budakeling village was based on the spirit of multiculturalism. This spirit is what binds Hindus and Muslims in brotherhood which is represented through the Burcek art performance. The song lyrics displayed in Burcek art represent the importance of building religious harmony inherited in Budakeling Village. Overall, the collaboration in Burcek's art show also represents this ideology. Based on the findings of this research, it is recommended that Burcek art be maintained and developed as a local Balinese culture that makes an important contribution to a multicultural society. The diversity of religions and cultures in Indonesia presents its own challenges in maintaining harmony in the school environment. The school principal has an important role as a leader who is able to create an inclusive and conducive atmosphere for the realization of religious harmony and moderation. This research aims to analyze the role of the principal's inclusive leadership in building harmony between religious communities and implementing the values of religious moderation in schools. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with data collection through in-depth interviews, observation and literature study.. The research results show that school principals who implement inclusive leadership tend to be successful in creating an environment that respects differences and promotes interfaith dialogue. The policies taken, such as organizing interfaith activities and involving students in moderated discussions, are effective in instilling the values of tolerance and mutual respect. In addition, inclusive school principals are able to identify and resolve potential conflicts by prioritizing a fair and transparent approach. These findings show that inclusive leadership contributes significantly to creating a tolerant and harmonious school culture amidst diversity. This research concludes that the principal's inclusive leadership plays an important role in promoting religious moderation in schools. It is hoped that the results of this research can become a reference for school principals and education policy makers in designing strategies that support an inclusive, safe and tolerant school environment..

Religious pluralism of Muslim practices in China: the cases of ritual participation from Hui and Uyghur societies

Abstract In this article we explore the practical conditions of ritual practices of Hui and Uyghur Muslims in China. Ceaseless conflicts among different religious ideas and elements exist, but they are integrated into religious pluralism, which meets the needs of Muslims' daily practices. Furthermore, we probe the reasons for the resulting religious harmony through investigating the historical process of the formation of religious pluralism, and showing present ritual performances in which there is a hierarchically built ritual structure functioning to make religious integration possible, though different opinions regarding diverse religious elements occur elsewhere among Hui and Uyghur Muslims. Finally, the discussion supports the related assertion that rituals can be reliable and effective ways of understanding the sociological and psychological functions of religions, or religious beliefs, and other related socio-cultural realities.

Komunikasi Multikultural Badan Sosial Lintas Agama (BASOLIA) dalam Merajut Toleransi di Era Society 5.0

Indonesia has the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika which reflects being a multicultural nation with many tribes, languages, religions and cultures. This diversity brings harmony through multicultural communication. Globalization is currently seen as a big wave that brings impacts and changes in various aspects of life. Including changes in life from the industrial era 4.0 to the era of society 5.0. Entering the era of society 5.0, where people's activities implement technology with a focus on humanity, it is a part of technology to be part of the development of a multicultural society in harmony. Multicultural communication is part of harmony, because the process of interaction and communication involves cultural concepts. The Interfaith Social Agency (BASOLIA) is an organization that operates in the social and humanitarian fields interreligiously in the social and humanitarian fields. However, BASOLIA actively participates in maintaining religious harmony in the city of Bogor. The focus of this research is on the analysis of multicultural communication at the Bogor City Interfaith Social Agency (BASOLIA). The aim of this research is to analyze the multicultural communication of the Interfaith Social Agency (BASOLIA) in fostering tolerance in the era of society 5.0. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach using the case method. Data collection was carried out by observation, interviews and literature review, then analyzed using the data reduction, data presentation and data verification stages. The results of this research show that BASOLIA in its activities cannot be separated from multicultural communication. The meeting room becomes a symbolic interaction with tolerance dialogue, where by building regular discussions or dialogue, both formal and informal, it becomes part of multicultural communication in program activities carried out by BASOLIA in maintaining multiculturalism in the city of Bogor.

The role of Ondofolo to maintain religious harmony: A study in a Christian perspective

Local wisdom refers to the cultural heritage of a community, which is derived from its cultural origins and includes a wide range of values, rituals and traditions. Ondofolo is the current paramount chief of the Sentani community in Papua province, a position that remains in effect at the moment. The local community holds Ondofolo’s leadership in high esteem and places substantial trust in it. The research aims to investigate the function of Ondofolo within religious congregations using a qualitative phenomenological design approach. Data were gathered via participatory observations, interviews with Ondofolo, leaders of prayer rooms and Islamic boarding schools and a review of literature and research conducted in the indigenous area of Sentani. The local knowledge of Sentani ‘Ondofolo’ plays a crucial role in fostering the religious community by embodying the fundamental qualities of leadership, peace, love and brotherhood found in the Bible. The preservation of wisdom in all its manifestations is imperative, as it represents an irreplaceable cultural legacy.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This study applies the interdisciplinary characteristics of contextual theology to Ondofolo’s leadership of the religious congregation in Papua, drawing on Christian wisdom. The findings positively impact the formation of religious communities in Sentani, Papua. They also present a viable leadership model specific to the local context and can be used as an option for guiding the faithful community in Indonesia.

Strategi Penguatan Moderasi Beragama Melalui Kegiatan Festival Anak Sholeh di Desa Perkebunan Tanjung Beringin

Religious moderation is the most important key in maintaining harmony and harmony in a diverse society to prevent radicalism. Religious moderation and tolerance are two different and different things. Religious moderation is a path that consists of several stages that must be passed, while tolerance is the result of the stages that have been passed before. From religious moderation, an attitude of tolerance will be formed between fellow human beings, so that harmony between religious communities will be created which will later function to strengthen the unity and unity of the Indonesia nation. Humans are required to interact to meet their needs in society. Relations between religious people are based on the principle of good brotherhood, working together to face enemies and defending those who suffer. Religious harmony is needed in establishing good relationships in community life. In this context, it is discussed that this research is an inculcation of the value of tolerance between religious communities.

Multicultural Islamic Religious Education Learning to Build Religious Harmony

This research analyzes the Multicultural Islamic Religious Education Learning (MIREL) at SMKN 1 Poso in building religious harmony as a conflict resolution. Conflict socio-religious become a critical problem regarding diversity in schools and society. Meanwhile, Islamic religious education provided in schools does not prioritize a multicultural perspective, which includes the practices of different religions and other cultures. This study uses qualitative field research with a case study approach and data analysis, according to Miles and Huberman. Results show that this school carries out the MIREL formally-textual and informally-textual. Learning formally-textual is held through three stages. At the beginning stage, teachers contextualize the values of example and self-control through exemplary stories from the prophets. In the main stage, the teachers integrate the values of tolerance, harmony, democracy, unity, concern, and justice by presenting material that includes faith, morals, jurisprudence, and the history of Islamic culture. Teachers instill multicultural values of cooperation and responsibility in the closing stage by assigning group tasks. The school holds informally textual learning through the Religious Saturday program collaboration in cross-cultural, socio-religious, and humanitarian activities. This research has implications for strengthening the MIREL in schools to build sustainable religious harmony among students and society in the post-conflict area.

Strategy Of The Local Government Of Mamasa Regency In Preventing Religious Conflicts To Realize National Security

Managing diversity based on local democracy is a preventive step to prevent prolonged conflicts toward social reintegration. Religious segmentation is used as a way to unravel the political conflicts that previously echoed in this area. Efforts to carry out the representation of religious identity (Islamic-Christian) in each Regional Election event are used as a new political format to minimize the tension of identity politics that can erode the spirit of community togetherness. Representation politics is then manifested in the form of pairs of candidates to occupy the position of regional head until the last twenty years have been institutions that have the ability to maintain unity and unity. This research uses a qualitative approach. For data collection techniques, researchers conduct interviews, observation, and documentation procedures. The theories and concepts used in this study include strategy theory, peace theory, conflict theory, conflict prevention concept, Conflict early Warning and Early Response System (CEWERS) concept, and state defense concept. Based on the results of the study, it can be understood that overall, conflict management carried out by the government, both the central government and local governments, is very poor. Efforts to resolve conflicts only occur at the elite level and do not include people who suffer more and lose more due to conflict. An elitist resolution will only meet the interests and demands of the elite. The demands of the masses that should also be accommodated are ignored. As a form of strategic steps of the local government of Mamasa Regency in preventing conflicts in the administration of government and its relationship with the roots of religious conflicts in Mamasa Regency, some of the descriptions of the steps taken include the Education and Socialization Approach, Increasing the Role of the Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB), Strengthening the Economy and Social Welfare, Fair and Transparent Law Enforcement, and Inclusive Infrastructure and Public Facilities Development.

Pancasila as State Ideology and Pillar of Religious Harmony in Indonesian Society

Religious diversity in a country is natural, but even so, an arrangement within the country is needed to accommodate differences in religion and belief. Without a fair arrangement, this can make the state less stable and cause religious conflicts in a country.This article examines Pancasila as the state ideology in forming religious tolerance. This research is a qualitative research with a literature study approach, namely by using books, documents, journals and other related sources as sources of research data. This study discussed about Pancasila as state ideology and religion, Pancasila Philosophy in Islamic Views, and Pancasila as an ideology forming religious tolerance. While data analysis is carried out by grouping, sorting and then looking for themes that are in accordance with the focus of research for later interpretation. Results of studi show;1) Pancasila as the state ideology has been fully supported by religious normativity. 2) The values and norms contained in Pancasila have compatibility with the values that become the teachings of Islam. and 3) Pancasila plays an important role in creating religious tolerance, mutual respect and respect for adherents of other religions, and not forcing beliefs on other parties.

Internalisasi Nilai - Nilai Tasawuf Dalam Pembentukan Sikap Moderasi Beragama

There are three aims of this research, namely to describe the values of Sufism, explain the process of internalizing Sufism and describe the relevance of internalizing Sufism values in forming an attitude of religious moderation in the Thoriqoh Syadziliyah Al Masudiyah Jombang Congregation. The Sufism values taught include Simplicity (Zuhud), Humility (Tawadhu'), Compassion and Kindness (Ihsan), Patience and Perseverance (Sabr), Rejection of Negative Lust (Mujahadah). The process of internalizing Sufism is influenced by supporting factors and challenges in implementation. Supporting factors: Thoriqoh Syadziliyah, which is muktabaroh and famous for its easy practices for the congregation. Challenging/inhibiting factors: Struggle with Ego and Worldly Desires, Maintaining Spiritual Discipline, Negative Environmental Influences. The relevance of internalizing Sufism values in forming attitudes of religious moderation. By practicing the values of Sufism, the thoriqoh congregation will form a high attitude of tolerance. By practicing Sufism, the congregation has openness and inclusiveness (tawas), which encourages religious moderation. With a simple lifestyle and Zuhud, the congregation is not easily provoked into committing terrorism and other intolerance. A balanced lifestyle meets the needs of the world, and Akirat helps to encourage the stability of religious harmony in the surrounding environment

Insights from a State Islamic University on Arabic Education as a Catalyst for Religious Moderation in Indonesia

This research aims to investigate the integration of religious moderation in Arabic language learning at a state Islamic university. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, data was gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The study emphasizes a tourism-based approach that incorporates local wisdom and pluralism into the Kalam course, aimed at enhancing students' Arabic communication skills. The findings indicate that embedding religious moderation within the Arabic curriculum promotes tolerance, inclusivity, and a moderate outlook among students, which, in turn, contributes to social and religious harmony in Indonesia. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of local cultural contexts in shaping student behavior. The study suggests further exploration of internal and external factors that influence the implementation of religious moderation in Arabic education at a state Islamic university. It also recommends adopting a mixed-method approach in future research to gain a deeper understanding of these dynamics and enhance the effectiveness of religious moderation efforts.

Exploring Religious Harmony Through Dalihan Na Tolu: Local Wisdom in Peacebuilding in Indonesia

This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of religious harmony and the strategies employed by Muslims and Christians in Mandailing Natal to build cohesive relationships through the indigenous cultural framework known as Dalihan Na Tolu. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and a literature review. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data presentation, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that the Muslim and Christian communities worked together to build peace and nurture religious harmony in Mandailing Natal. The cultural practice of Dalihan Na Tolu has long served as a foundation for accommodating the multicultural Mandailing society in fostering religious harmony and peace. The role of Dalihan Na Tolu could be seen in three aspects: socio-religious, economic, and customary practices. In these aspects, Muslims and Christians respected each other, fostered cooperation (gotong royong), and adopted a moderate and inclusive attitude towards diversity in their daily lives. Maintaining interfaith harmony through the cultural practice of Dalihan Na Tolu in Mandailing Natal is a crucial social modality that can contribute to peacebuilding and serve as a relevant strategy for preserving religious harmony in multicultural societies.

Fostering Religious Harmony: The Role of Religious Leaders in Pancasila Village, Indonesia

Differences in beliefs in Indonesia often lead to social conflicts. This study aims to identify and analyze the role of religious figures in maintaining and fostering religious harmony in Banaran Village, which has been officially designated as Pancasila Village. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach, conducted in Pancasila Village, Banaran, Kandangan Subdistrict, Kediri Regency. The findings show that religious leaders have a significant influence on maintaining diversity harmony through inclusive approaches and interfaith dialogue. Religious leaders not only act as spiritual leaders but also as mediators and wise problem solvers amidst differences in beliefs and traditions. Through effective communication, tolerance, and inter-religious dialogue, they have successfully built and maintained social harmony in the village. However, they also face challenges, such as internal conflicts and disparities in resource access, requiring specific strategies to ensure a peaceful and harmonious community life.

The aim of study is to discussed the application of religious harmony values to students of State Integrated Junior High School of Balaesang Tanjung. This research adopts a qualitative approach. Qualitative research is characterized by collecting descriptive data, including the informants' words, actions, and feelings, who serve as the needed data sources. This study found that In implementing the values ​​of religious moderation at State Integrated Junior High School Balaesang Tanjung, namely through the principal’s policy followed by all teachers, especially Islamic religious education teachers at State Integrated Junior High School Balaesang Tanjung implementing the principles of religious moderation in every lesson, which includes the attitude of taking the middle path (tawassuth), straight and firm (i’tidāl), balance (tawāzun), tolerance (tasāmuh), egalitarian (musāwah), deliberation (syurā). The impact of implementing the values ​​of religious moderation at State Integrated Junior High School Balaesang Tanjung is that it has a positive effect on students, including growing an attitude of mutual understanding towards each other regardless of religion, being able to show an attitude of awareness and honesty, and not worrying about differences

Local Leadership in Realizing Religious Harmony after the Regional Head Election in Medan City

This article aims to analyse the role of local leaders in realising religious harmony after the local elections in Medan City. The issue of religious politicisation has become an inseparable part of the social life of the people of Medan City. This research aims to formulate local leaders' role in reducing heterogeneity, especially in Medan City. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection through in-depth interviews and documentation. The results showed several impacts caused during the elections, namely the emergence of religious conflicts, social divisions, post-election polarisation, and disruption of social harmony. The negative post-election implications can be degraded through the role of local leadership, among others: Encouraging interfaith dialogue, promoting role models and tolerance, encouraging inclusive religious education, Collaborating with religious leaders, Implementing anti-apartheid policies, and Involving non-governmental organisations in religious moderation campaigns. In addition, the local leadership has a solid instrument of religious moderation through the Religious Harmony Forum. This forum has a vital role as an extension of local leaders in Medan City to accommodate the interests of religious communities. Local leaders and all cooperative bodies are crucial to bringing order to Medan City's political and intercultural heterogeneity.

This research aims to examine the implementation of religious moderation as a preventive measure for the formation of radicalism among students. The students' heterogeneous religious backgrounds and school programs that are oriented towards high tolerance practices make researchers interested in studying the implementation of religious moderation-based learning programs at SMA Negeri 4 Probolinggo City. This research is Field Research, namely qualitative research with analytical descriptive characteristics. The presentation of data in this research is formatted in narrative form with data collection using observation, interview, documentation and analysis of natural documents for each discussion. The research informants consisted of the Principal, Deputy Head of Curriculum, Deputy Head of Student Affairs, Teachers and Students. The research results show that SMAN 4 Probolinggo has implemented the practice of tolerance values ​​which are manifested in the learning process and extracurricular activities. The School Bullying Agent Program (APS) is an important alternative in preventing and resolving problems regarding bullying and religious violence. SMA Negeri 4 Probolinggo City plays an active role in the activities of the Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) which is designed to strengthen tolerance and harmony between religious communities in the school environment. The school curriculum is designed to achieve the target of graduates who have a more inclusive and open understanding in preventing the formation of radicalism and strengthening moderate attitudes among students.

Pemikiran Dan Pengaruh Syeh Nawawi Al-Bantani Dalam Perkembangan Islam Di Nusantara

This article discusses the influence and contribution of Syeikh Nawawi al-Bantani to the spread of Islam in the archipelago. One of the leading scholars from Banten in the 19th century, Syeikh Nawawi al-Bantani, made a significant contribution to the spread of Islam in this region. Sensitivity and tolerance became a strong foundation for inter-ethnic and religious harmony in the Nusantara society, which was realized in a wise approach in understanding religious differences. The influence of Syeikh Nawawi al-Bantani covers social and educational aspects as well as limited to religious aspects. This article explains the role of madrasas and pesantren as centers of knowledge dissemination in the archipelago. His contribution to Islamic education helped develop the intellectual capacity of the local community and gave birth to a new generation of Islamic scholars who uphold the teachings of Islam. In addition, the article highlights recurring themes in the contemporary context of Syeikh Nawawi al-Bantani's writings. Ignorance of the past is an obstacle to racial tolerance in the archipelago today. Through intellectual reflection, this article offers insights into how the writings of Syeikh Nawawi al-Bantani continue to play an important role in shaping Islamic identity in the archipelago.
