A new mercury(I)–organic framework based on Hg22 + dumbbell, [Hg2(apca)2]n, 1, [apca = 3-aminopyrazine-2-carboxylate] has been synthesized from an in situ reduction reaction of mercury(II) acetate and 3-aminopyrazine-2-carboxylic acid under hydrothermal condition. 1 has been characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction and has shown a 2D-layer structure constructed from Hg22 + dumbbell and bridging 3-aminopyrazine-2-carboxylate, which features a (63) topological network. The 2D compound is further assembled by hydrogen bonds and CH⋯N interactions into 3D supramolecular networks. Fluorescence property and thermogravimetric analysis of 1 were also investigated.
