Degenerate four wave mixing with long range surface plasmons in attenuated total reflection geometries

We analyze the theory of degenerate four wave mixing by long range surface plasmons in an attenuated total reflection geometry. It is shown that large signal levels can be obtained with pulsed laser excitation for polydiacelyne materials.

Effects of gaps on long range surface plasmon polaritons

We show that air gaps of 50 Å and less in a symmetric dielectric-metal film-dielectric structure lead to mode cutoff for long range surface plasmons. High index liquids are discussed as a solution to this problem for most cases.

Second harmonic generation by molecules on a metal surface is analyzed in a total attenuated reflection (ATR) geometry. By coupling the incident field to long range surface plasmons, an enhancement of ∼10 5 in signal is predicted.

Second harmonic generation by oppositely travelling long range surface polaritons

We analyze the nonlinear mixing of two oppositely propagating long range surface plasmon polaritons in an ATR geometry. Typical efficiencies for the second harmonic signal radiated normal to the metal films are calculated.
