Identifying human elephant conflict hotspots through satellite remote sensing and GIS to support conflict mitigation

Human-elephant conflict (HEC) is a significant issue in Sri Lanka and many parts of the world where elephants and humans coexist. To address HEC, this study integrates remote sensing and GIS analysis, focusing on monitoring changes in greenery. The study prepared the latest land cover and land use (LCLU) maps with Sentinel-2 satellite data, correlating them with reported HEC incidents reported in 2021 and 2022 to identify HEC hotspots in two forest-dominated regions of Southeast Sri Lanka. High-resolution sentinel-2 satellite imagery were used to detect areas of human activities and elephant habitats in proximity to each other. Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification methods were used for LCLU classification. The overall accuracy of the classification was 97.31 and 94.62, and kappa was 0.95 and 0.90 for RF and SVM, respectively. Multi-temporal normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) analysis provided insights into vegetation health and coverage, offering a clear picture of greenery changes. Monthly changes in vegetation cover readings were quantified using NDVI values derived from MODIS data, identifying suitable regions for elephants to forage frequently. Furthermore, Kernel density estimation identified high-density areas for reported incidents of human and elephant deaths. This process involved assigning weight to conflict incidents within a 5 km radius, considering the proximity to the forest, and evaluating greenery changes using NDVI values, revealing varying levels of HEC risk, ranging from very high to low. The LCLU map, created using the RF classifier, indicates that all potential HEC hotspots for very high and high HEC risks are closely aligned with forest boundaries. The findings support HEC mitigation strategies through community awareness, HEC hotspots mapping and restoration practices to ensure a sustainable human-elephant coexistence. This method will help policymakers in wildlife conservation to identify high risk HEC zones to support HEC mitigation. In conclusion, this study highlights the potential of integrating remote sensing and GIS techniques in demarcating HEC hotspots in Sri Lanka to support conflict mitigation efforts.

The Influence of Spatial Heterogeneity of Urban Green Space on Surface Temperature

Urban green space (UGS) has been recognized as a key factor in enhancing the urban ecosystem balance, particularly in arid areas. It is often considered an effective means to mitigate the urban heat island (UHI) effect. In this study, the reference comparison method was utilized to optimize the process of nighttime lighting data; the random forest classification method was employed to extract UGS data; and the radiative transfer method was applied in land surface temperature (LST) inversion. Additionally, moving window analysis was conducted to assess the robustness of the results. The objective of this research was to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of UGS and LST and to explore their bivariate local spatial autocorrelations by calculating four landscape metrics, including the aggregation index (AI), edge density (ED), patch density (PD), and area-weighted mean shape index (Shape_am). It was found that the distribution of UGS in the study area was uneven, with higher temperatures in the eastern and western regions and lower temperatures in the central and southern regions. The results also revealed that ED, PD, and Shape_am were negatively correlated with LST, with correlation coefficients being −0.469, −0.388, and −0.411, respectively, indicating that UGS in these regions were more effective in terms of cooling effect. Conversely, AI was found to be positively correlated with LST (Moran’ I index of 0.449), indicating that surface temperatures were relatively higher in regions of high aggregation. In essence, the fragmented, complex, and evenly distributed green patches in the study area provided a better cooling effect. These findings should persuade decision makers and municipal planners to allocate more UGS in cities for UHI alleviation to improve quality of life and enhance recreational opportunities.

Urban lakes change extraction using time series GaoFen-1 satellite imagery

Abstract. Urban lakes serve an indispensable role in maintaining the ecological balance of cities, ensuring flood safety, and providing recreational spaces for tourism. With the development of human activities and economic, the extent of urban lakes are inevitably influenced. Currently, the ability to detect detailed temporal changes in urban lake areas using high resolution data still has limitations. This study proposed a novel method by combining time series Gaofen-1 (GF-1) remote sensing data and random forest machine learning algorithm to explore the urban lakes change Zhushan Lake located in Wuhan. The research conducted the extraction of surface water for Zhushan Lake and its surrounding pit-ponds from 2013 to 2020. And then, a quantitative analysis of the characteristics and driving factors of lake changes is conducted. We find that (1) the accuracy of surface water extraction using the random forest classification method consistently exceeded 96%. The Kappa coefficient ranges from a minimum of 0.86 to a maximum of 0.99. (2) A noticeable decline was observed in the water areas of Zhushan Lake and its surrounding pit-ponds, predominantly along the northwestern shoreline and in the eastern pond regions. This decline is primarily attributed to pressures from building construction. The methodology proposed in this study is suitable for the area management of lakes in urban areas.

Machine Learning-Based Fine Classification of Agricultural Crops in the Cross-Border Basin of the Heilongjiang River between China and Russia

The transboundary region along the Heilongjiang River, encompassing the Russian Far East and Northeast China, possesses abundant agricultural natural resources crucial for global food security. In the face of the challenge of disruptions in the global food supply chain, the precise monitoring and exploitation of agricultural resources in the Heilongjiang Basin becomes imperative. This study employed deep learning to classify crop status in 2023 in the Heilongjiang Basin using Sentinel-2 satellite remote sensing images at a 10 m resolution. Various vegetation indices, including the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), the Modified Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (MSAVI), and others, were computed and analyzed for different crops. The Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform was utilized for validation point sampling based on plot objects. The random forest (RF) classification method was successfully employed to classify and identify major crops in the study area (wheat, maize, rice, and soybean), as well as wetlands, tree cover, grassland, water, and constructed land, with an overall classification accuracy of 86%. Tree cover dominated the land cover, constituting 62%, while wheat, maize, rice, and soybeans accounted for 7% of the total area. Of these, soybeans occupied the largest area (57,646.60 hectares), followed by rice (53,209.53 hectares), maize (39,998.37 hectares), and wheat (8782.31 hectares). This study demonstrated that sample selection based on plot objects facilitates efficient sample labeling, providing insights into crop classification in other, potentially larger, areas. This method simultaneously distinguishes wetland, cultivated land, and forest features, supporting further integrated investigations for more natural resources.

A framework for ship abnormal behaviour detection and classification using AIS data

This paper proposes a method for detecting and classifying ship abnormal behaviour in ship trajectories. The method involves generating parameter profiles for the ship's trajectory and applying a Sliding Window algorithm to detect the ship's abnormal behaviour. Then, several features are adopted to effectively describe the characteristics of each ship's abnormal behaviour, such as the standard deviation of speed, detour factor, maximum drift angle, accumulative change of Course Over Ground and maximum lateral distance to the ship route. A density-based clustering algorithm is applied to group similar abnormal behaviour patterns according to the feature similarity, and the Random Forest Classification method is used to train a classification model based on the features extracted from the clusters. The proposed method is then tested on historical ship trajectory data provided by the Automatic Identification System. The results suggest that the method effectively identifies and classifies different abnormal behaviours in the ship trajectories.

Using artificial neural networks to predict indoor particulate matter and TVOC concentration in an office building: Model selection and method development

Indoor particulate matter and TVOC pose a significant threat to the health of staff working in office buildings. The accurate prediction of indoor particulate matter and TVOC concentrations is crucial for the automatic operation of ventilation and filtration system to control these indoor pollutants. Artificial neural networks have the advantages of high accuracy, real-time monitoring, and multi-source data integrations. Their performances in predicting particulate matter and TVOC concentrations in office buildings need to be further studied. In this study, on-site sampling was conducted in a typical office building at northern China. A standardized database of indoor parameters for four different offices was created with a total of 6072 datasets for each parameter. Three artificial neural network models were used in this study: the back propagation neural network (BP-ANN), the multi-layer neural network (MLNN), as well as the long-term and short-term memory neural network (LSTM). Among these three models, the performance of the MLNN model was the best in predicting PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations. It achieved a FB ranging from -0.02 to -0.01, an NMSE ranging from 0.46 to 0.49 μg/m3, and an R2 between 0.78 and 0.81. The MLNN model and the random forest (RF) classification method were further used to predict indoor TVOC concentrations. The RF model achieved a relatively better performance with a prediction accuracy of 89.2 %. In addition, the models’ generalization abilities were further evaluated by using some smaller datasets. For the MLNN model, when predicting indoor PM2.5 concentration, as the amount of training data decreased from 80 % to 20 %, its FB decreased from 0.41 to 0.03, its NMSE changed from 1.53 μg/m3 to 0.53 μg/m3, and its R2 decreased from 0.69 to 0.07. The results in this study can contribute to the use of artificial intelligence algorithm in office buildings aiming at indoor pollutants control.

Estimation of the Ecosystem Service Value of the Yellow River Delta-Laizhou Bay Coastal Zone Considering Regional Differences and Social Development.

With economic and societal development, the ecological environment of the Yellow River Delta-Laizhou Bay coastal zone has been seriously damaged. Exploring the changes in land use and ecosystem service value (ESV) is essential to ecological construction of the region. The random forest classification method was used for land cover interpretation of the four periods of remote sensing images in the study area from 1990 to 2020. Newly calculated regional difference coefficients and social development coefficients were used to construct a dynamic ESV assessment model and to study its changes from overall and sea‒land gradient perspectives. The results showed that construction land, salt pans, aquaculture ponds, and inland water masses expanded rapidly, while cropland, tidal flats, and shallow waters shrank sharply over the past 30 years. The ESV in the study area has continued to decrease from 34.47 billion yuan in 1990 to 25.23 billion yuan in 2020, a total decrease of 9.23 billion yuan. This is mostly due to the encroachment of construction land, salt pans, and aquaculture ponds, and the flow of ecosystem services from high-value land cover types (tidal flats, herbaceous wetlands, and cropland) to medium- and low-value land cover types. Moreover, the land cover transfer and ESVs exhibited a decreasing trend from sea to land, with significant sea-land gradient differences. Land conversion is most common in the 0-15 km coastal zone, mainly from natural wetlands to artificial wetlands, where the ESV also decreases rapidly. Considering the regional differences and social development in this paper, the ESV of small-scale areas can be reasonably evaluated to explore the characteristics and causes of changes in land use and ESVs, which can provide an important reference for ecological protection and land use management in the region.

Extraction of Lilium davidii var. unicolor Planting Information Based on Deep Learning and Multi-Source Data.

Accurate extraction of crop acreage is an important element of digital agriculture. This study uses Sentinel-2A, Sentinel-1, and DEM as data sources to construct a multidimensional feature dataset encompassing spectral features, vegetation index, texture features, terrain features, and radar features. The Relief-F algorithm is applied for feature selection to identify the optimal feature dataset. And the combination of deep learning and the random forest (RF) classification method is utilized to identify lilies in Qilihe District and Yuzhong County of Lanzhou City, obtain their planting structure, and analyze their spatial distribution characteristics in Gansu Province. The findings indicate that terrain features significantly contribute to ground object classification, with the highest classification accuracy when the number of features in the feature dataset is 36. The precision of the deep learning classification method exceeds that of RF, with an overall classification accuracy and kappa coefficient of 95.9% and 0.934, respectively. The Lanzhou lily planting area is 137.24 km2, and it primarily presents a concentrated and contiguous distribution feature. The study's findings can serve as a solid scientific foundation for Lanzhou City's lily planting structure adjustment and optimization and a basis of data for local lily yield forecasting, development, and application.

A hybrid sampling combining Smote and RF algorithm for cancer chemotherapy protocols Classification

Breast Cancer (BC) is a network of cells that grow abnormally in the breast. If BC is not properly treated with the appropriate cancer chemotherapy protocols, it is at risk of causing death. This research aimed to combine Synthetic Minority Over-sampling (Smote) and Random Forest (RF) methods for BC chemotherapy protocols classification. Smote was used to balance the data, while RF was used to classify chemotherapy protocols data. The real data was produced by collecting medical and personal data from 601 patients with BC at the University Hospital Center (UHC) Mohammed VI of Marrakech in Morocco. Data of women diagnosed with BC from January 2018 at UHC were assessed. The results showed that the use of Smote for data augmentation can increase the performance of the RF classification method based on accuracy. There was an increase of 26% in accuracy. Time is an hyperparameter to be improved.

Comparative Analysis of GF-5 and Sentinel-2A Fusion Methods for Lithological Classification: The Tuanjie Peak, Xinjiang Case Study.

This study investigates the application of hyperspectral image space-spectral fusion technology in lithologic classification, using data from China's GF-5 and Europe's Sentinel-2A. The research focuses on the southern region of Tuanjie Peak in the Western Kunlun Range, comparing five space-spectral fusion methods: GSA, SFIM, CNMF, HySure, and NonRegSRNet. To comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness and applicability of these fusion methods, the study conducts a comprehensive assessment from three aspects: evaluation of fusion effects, lithologic classification experiments, and field validation. In the evaluation of fusion effects, the study uses an index analysis and comparison of spectral curves before and after fusion, concluding that the GSA fusion method performs the best. For lithologic classification, the Random Forest (RF) classification method is used, training with both area and point samples. The classification results from area sample training show significantly higher overall accuracy compared to point samples, aligning well with 1:50,000 scale geological maps. In field validation, the study employs on-site verification combined with microscopic identification and comparison of images with actual spectral fusion, finding that the classification results for the five lithologies are essentially consistent with field validation results. The "GSA+RF" method combination established in this paper, based on data from GF-5 and Sentinel-2A satellites, can provide technical support for lithological classification in similar high-altitude regions.

Classification Comparison Performance of Supervised Machine Learning Random Forest and Decision Tree Algorithms Using Confusion Matrix

The classification method is part of data mining which is used to predict existing problems and also as predictions for the future. The form of dataset used in the classification method is supervised data. The random forest classification method is processed by forming several decision trees and then combining them to get better and more precise predictions. while a decision tree is the concept of changing a pile of data into a decision tree that presents the rules of a decision. From these two classification methods, researchers will compare the level of accuracy of predictions from both methods with the same dataset, namely the employee dataset in India, to predict the level of accuracy of employees who leave their jobs or still remain to work at their company. The number of records available is 4654 records. Of the existing data, 90% was used as training data and 10% was used as test data. From the results of testing this method, it was found that the accuracy level of the random forest method was 86.45%, while the decision tree method was 84.30% accuracy level. Then, by using the confusion matrix, you can see the magnitude of the distribution of experimental validity visually to calculate precision, recall and F1-Score. The random forest algorithm obtained precision of: 96.7%, sensitivity of: 84.7%, specificity of: 91.4%, and F1-Score of: 90.2%. Meanwhile, the decision tree algorithm obtained precision of: 95.7%, sensitivity of: 82.9%, specificity of: 88.4%, and F1-Score of: 88.8%.

Land use classification in mine-agriculture compound area based on multi-feature random forest: a case study of Peixian

IntroductionLand use classification plays a critical role in analyzing land use/cover change (LUCC). Remote sensing land use classification based on machine learning algorithm is one of the hot spots in current remote sensing technology research. The diversity of surface objects and the complexity of their distribution in mixed mining and agricultural areas have brought challenges to the classification of traditional remote sensing images, and the rich information contained in remote sensing images has not been fully utilized.MethodsA quantitative difference index was proposed quantify and select the texture features of easily confused land types, and a random forest (RF) classification method with multi-feature combination classification schemes for remote sensing images was developed, and land use information of the mine-agriculture compound area of Peixian in Xuzhou, China was extracted.ResultsThe quantitative difference index proved effective in reducing the dimensionality of feature parameters and resulted in a reduction of the optimal feature scheme dimension from 57 to 22. Among the four classification methods based on the optimal feature classification scheme, the RF algorithm emerged as the most efficient with a classification accuracy of 92.38% and a Kappa coefficient of 0.90, which outperformed the support vector machine (SVM), classification and regression tree (CART), and neural network (NN) algorithm.ConclusionThe findings indicate that the quantitative differential index is a novel and effective approach for discerning distinct texture features among various land types. It plays a crucial role in the selection and optimization of texture features in multispectral remote sensing imagery. Random forest (RF) classification method, leveraging a multi-feature combination, provides a fresh method support for the precise classification of intricate ground objects within the mine-agriculture compound area.

Molecular Dynamics and Machine Learning reveal distinguishing mechanisms of Competitive Ligands to perturb α,β-Tubulin

The mechanisms of action of ligands competing for the Colchicine Binding Site (CBS) of the α,β-Tubulin are non-standard compared to the commonly witnessed ligand-induced inhibition of proteins. This is because their potencies are not solely judged by the binding affinity itself, but also by their capacity to bias the conformational states of the dimer. Regarding the latter requirement, it is observed that ligands competing for the same pocket that binds colchicine exhibit divergence in potential clinical outcomes. Molecular dynamics-based ∼5.2 µs sampling of α,β-Tubulin complexed with four different ligands has revealed that each ligand has its customized way of influencing the complex. Primarily, it is the proportion of twisting and/or bending characteristic of modes of the intrinsic dynamics which is revealed to be ‘fundamental’ to tune this variation in the mechanism. The milder influence of ‘bending’ makes a ligand (TUB092), better classifiable under the group of vascular disrupting agents (VDAs), which are phenotypically effective on cytoskeletons; whereas a stronger impact of ‘bending’ makes the classical ligand Colchicine (COL) a better Anti-Mitotic agent (AMA). Two other ligands BAL27862 (2RR) and Nocodazole (NZO) fall in the intermediate zone as they fail to explicitly induce bending modes. Random Forest Classification method and K-means Clustering is applied to reveal the efficiency of Machine Learning methods in classifying the Tubulin conformations according to their ligand-specific perturbations and to highlight the significance of specific amino acid residues, mostly positioned in the α-β and β-β interfaces involved in the mechanism. These key residues responsible to yield discriminative actions of the ligands are likely to be highly useful in future endeavours to design more precise inhibitors.

URBAN GREEN SPACE IDENTIFICATION BY FUSING SATELLITE IMAGES FROM GF-2 AND SENTINEL-2

Abstract. This paper combines class hierarchy construction and feature-preferred random forest classification method, and the classification results are the best. In the urban center area with complex features, this method can be used to extract small and complex features more accurately, and for urban green spaces, small auxiliary green spaces between houses can be accurately extracted. This method first constructs a class hierarchy of four sizes, and then extracts different features from simple to complex, from large to small, and classifies them by membership function for the direct selection feature rules of easily extracted features. For the subdivision of green space and the classification of features in central complex areas, feature optimization is carried out, and the optimal feature combination is selected and then extreme random tree (ERT) classification is performed. The classification accuracy is the best 89.5%, and the classification results are analyzed correctly, which correctly distinguishes the smaller land categories in the central area, reduces the misclassification of grassland and agricultural land, and the classification results are optimal.

Research on Maize Acreage Extraction and Growth Monitoring Based on a Machine Learning Algorithm and Multi-Source Remote Sensing Data

Getting accurate and up-to-date information on the cultivated land area and spatial arrangement of maize, an important staple crop in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is very important for planning agricultural development in the region and judging crop yields. This work proposes a machine-learning methodology to extract corn from medium-resolution photos obtained from the Sentinel-2 satellite. The Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud platform is utilized to facilitate the process. The identification of maize cultivation regions in Huinong District in the year 2021 was performed through the utilization of support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) classification techniques. After obtaining the results, they were compared to see if using the random forest classification method to find planting areas for maize was possible and useful. Subsequently, the regions where maize was cultivated were combined with image data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), which has a high temporal resolution. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) contemporaneous difference method, which gives regular updates, was then used to track the growth of maize during its whole growth phase. The study’s results show that using the GEE cloud platform made it easier to quickly map out data about where to plant maize in Huinong District. Furthermore, the implementation of the random forest method resulted in enhanced accuracy in extracting maize planting areas. The confusion matrix’s evaluation of the classification performance produced an average overall accuracy of 98.9% and an average Kappa coefficient of 0.966. In comparison to the statistics yearbook of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the method employed in this study consistently yielded maize-planted area estimates in Huinong District with relative errors below 4% throughout the period spanning 2017 to 2021. The average relative error was found to be 2.04%. By combining MODIS image data with the NDVI difference model in the year 2021, the high-frequency monitoring of maize growth in Huinong District was successful. The growth of maize in Huinong District in 2021 exhibited comparable or improved performance in the seedling stage, nodulation stage, and the early stage of staminate pulling and spitting, possibly attributed to the impact of climate and other relevant elements. After that, the growth slowed down in August, and the percentage of regions with slower growth rates than in previous years gradually increased. However, overall, the growth of maize in Huinong District during the year 2021 showed improvement relative to the preceding years. The present study introduces a novel approach that demonstrates the capability to accurately extract corn crops in the Huinong District while simultaneously monitoring their growth at a high frequency.

Impact of Hydrological Changes on Wetland Landscape Dynamics and Implications for Ecohydrological Restoration in Honghe National Nature Reserve, Northeast China

Marsh wetlands are significant ecosystems located between land and water bodies which can both protect species diversity and provide habitats. Changes in the hydrological situation of marsh wetlands as a result of climate change and human activities have led to the degradation of wetland landscapes. Taking the Honghe National Nature Reserve (HNNR) in Heilongjiang Province, China, as an example, this paper gathered information on the reserve’s wetland landscape before and after dam construction. The information was obtained using field survey data and a random forest classification method based on Landsat data powered by the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud platform. Then, on the basis of the water level data and the digital elevation model, the wetland landscape dynamics of HNNR under three water level conditions were simulated. The findings were as follows: (1) From 1998 to 2008, the area of marsh and meadow had a downward trend, while the area of forest, farmland and water showed a gradual and upward trend; a marked rise in the area of marsh and a continued rise in the area of forest, farmland and water, and a sharp decline in the area of meadow during 2008 to 2018 was observed. (2) There was a significant increase in the area of marsh under the 20 and 40 cm water level simulation scenarios, with a decrease in the number of patches, and an increase in the aggregation index with rising water levels; in contrast, when the water level rose to 60 cm, the area of marsh and the number of patches decreased, but the aggregation index continued to increase. (3) The correlation between wetland landscape and the water level was a nonlinear one. The area of marsh increased and then decreased with increasing water level, reaching a maximum at the 40 cm water level; therefore, 40 cm was the optimal water level regulation scenario. Hydrological processes are the most fundamental ecological processes in marsh wetlands. Understanding the scientific pattern of the spatial pattern characteristics of species as a function of water level environment is important for scientifically guiding the restoration of marsh vegetation.

Combination of Smote and Random Forest Methods for Lung Cancer Classification

Lung cancer is a network of cells that grow abnormally in the lungs. Lung cancer has four severity levels, namely stages 1 to 4. If lung cancer is not treated quickly, it is at risk of causing death. This research aimed to combine Synthetic Minority Over-sampling (Smote) and Random Forest methods for lung cancer classification. The method used was a combination of Smote and Random Forest. Smote was used to balance the data, while Random Forest was used to classify lung cancer data. The results showed that the combination of Smote and Random Forest methods obtained an accuracy of 94.1%, sensitivity of 94.5, and specificity of 93.7%. Meanwhile, without Smote, the accuracy is 89.1%, sensitivity is 55%, and specificity is 94.5%. The use of Smote can improve the performance of the Random Forest classification method based on accuracy and sensitivity. There was an increase of 5% in accuracy and a 39% increase in sensitivity.

Classification of Poisonous and Edible Mushrooms with Optimized Classification Algorithms

Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to classify the mushroom species consumed as a staple food. For this purpose, 8124 mushroom data with 22 different mushroom feature information were used. 5686 of these data were used for training and 2438 for testing. In the study, poisonous and edible mushroom species were classified by random forest, decision tree, and logistic regression classification methods. The parameters used in the random forest and decision tree classification algorithms used in the study were optimized with the GridSearchCV optimization method. With the random forest algorithm, the highest precision, recall, and F1 score values are 0.93, 0.98, and 0.95, respectively. When these values are examined on a class basis, the highest distinctiveness results were obtained in the poisonous class. In the edible class, the highest performance results were measured as 0.97, 0.92, and 0.95 for precision, recall, and F1 score values, respectively. With the decision Tree algorithm, the highest precision, recall, and F1 score values are 0.98, 0.98, and 0.92, respectively. The highest precision, recall, and F1 score values of the best poisonous class are 0.90, 0.98, and 0.92, respectively. The best performance results of the edible class were obtained with the highest precision, recall, and F1 score values of 0.98, 0.89, and 0.90, respectively. The average accuracy rate was 0.9028 with the Logistic Regression algorithm, and the precision, recall, and F1 score values of the poisonous class were obtained as 0.86, 0.97, and 0.91, respectively. Precision, recall, and F1 score values of the Edible class were obtained as 0.96, 0.83, and 0.89, respectively.

An exploration of ventricle regions segmentation and multiclass disease detection using cardiac MRI

AbstractIn this modern era, various cardiac diseases are very crucial as they cause a high mortality rate. Early detection of cardio vascular disease (CVD) is essential to prevent and control it. Diagnosis of cardiac disease is the process of analyzing the left and right ventricle cavities (LV, RV) and myocardium (MYO) from cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images. As deep learning architectures are becoming more mature, segmenting, and classifying cardiac MRI images using deep learning is gaining more attention. This work is aimed to identify five different cardiac disease subgroups namely NOR, MINF, DCM, HCM, and ARC by employing a new deep join attention model (DJAM) technique for segmenting LV, MYO, and RV regions separately. This method provides advancement as the joined attention model was combined with the pooling layers and the resultant is added to the convolution layers. The proposed region integrated deep residual network (RIDRN) is used to extract the features from the segmented images for classification. In this process, the features of LV, RV, and MYO are combined with a different combination. The advantage of doing this process is to get the overall features without leaving any single strip of features from the three regions. Hence, it shows a rise in performance accuracy. The random forest classification method is used to classify the underlying features for cardiac disease diagnosis. This proposed work is tested in the automated cardiac diagnosis challenge (ACDC) dataset and it perfects the state‐of‐art techniques.
