Analysis and implications of star-forming objects at moderate redshift. Yanny, Brian Abstract A sample of 37 candidate star-forming emission objects at z between 0.4 and 1.2 selected by Yanny et al. (1990) on the basis of narrow-band imaging are analyzed in the context of interpreting their emission as indicators of star formation at the redshift of the absorber. Results of long-slit spectroscopy verify that four of these candidate objects have emission flux at the wavelengths predicted. Two objects (0235 + 164 object C and 0119 - 046 object 70) were shown to be at the redshift of their respective absorbers by detection of two or more lines. The other two (0420 - 014 object 43 and 0119 - 046 object 15) are one-line redshifts, but the FWHMs of these two lines, 270 km/sec and 310 km/sec, respectively, are consistent with a nearly resolved forbidden O II emission-line doublet.
