A comparative study of mechanical crushing and pyrolysis techniques for separation and recovery of discarded polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules

With the rapid growth of the photovoltaic (PV) industry, efficient recovery and utilization of discarded polycrystalline silicon PV modules have attracted increasing attention. This study compares the application of mechanical crushing and pyrolysis techniques in the recovery of PV modules. The results indicate that while mechanical crushing can preliminarily disintegrate materials, its effectiveness in separating valuable materials such as silver and aluminum is limited, particularly for particles larger than 1 mm. In contrast, pyrolysis techniques demonstrate outstanding performance in removing organic matter and separating silicon wafers and glass, notably enhancing the recovery rate of large glass particles. However, the brittleness of silicon wafers presents a challenge during pyrolysis. Furthermore, the pyrolysis mechanisms of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) film and backsheet materials are thoroughly discussed. The pyrolysis process of EVA film involves two stages: firstly, the preferential decomposition of acetyl oxygens on ester side chains, followed by further pyrolysis decomposition of the main chain and side chains to generate alkanes. Pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) begins with the generation of methyl and benzoyl radicals, while polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) pyrolysis initiates with the detachment of head-group units, followed by sequential detachment of chain units. Given the advantages of pyrolysis techniques, this study recommends them as the preferred method for PV module recovery.

Pyrolysis of municipal plastic waste: Chlorine distribution and formation of organic chlorinated compounds

The release of chlorine during the pyrolysis of actual municipal plastic waste (MPW) was studied. Firstly, thermogravimetry-Fourier transform infrared (TG-FTIR) was analyzed to investigate the chlorine release behavior. Then, the effect of temperature on chlorine migrations was investigated by fast pyrolysis experiments in a fixed bed reactor. Results showed that chlorine released mainly between 241 and 353 °C in the form of HCl or chloroesters during MPW pyrolysis. After pyrolysis, chlorine was mainly distributed in the pyrolytic gas (74.34–82.89 %) and char (10.17–21.29 %). However, the release of chlorine was inhibited due to the melting behavior of MPW at <350 °C. Besides, the relative contents and types of organic chlorinated compounds in liquid products were both decreased with temperature. It was observed that polyethylene terephthalate (PET) was the greatest contributor to the formation of organic chlorinated compounds during MPW pyrolysis. Meanwhile, the pyrolysis of PET was significantly promoted by the HCl released from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Subsequently, the pathways for the formation of organic chlorinated compounds through the co-pyrolysis of PVC and PET were proposed, including the initial degradation and subsequent chlorination of PET. These findings provided new insights into the release and regulation of chlorine-containing pollutants during actual MPW pyrolysis.

Optimized preparation of multi-matrix activated carbon for CO2 capture by response surface methodology: The advantages of co-pyrolysis of biomass and plastics

In this paper, low-cost activated carbons (ACs) using apple tree pruning waste and waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles as precursors were prepared by a two-step chemical activation, and the synergistic mechanism between the two precursors during carbonization was investigated. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to analyze the impact of PET ratio and carbonization conditions (carbonization temperature, heating rate) on the pore structure and CO2 adsorption performance of the activated carbon. The results demonstrate that the PET ratio and carbonization conditions significantly influence the pore structure and CO2 adsorption performance of the activated carbon. By optimizing the preparation conditions, the RSM-predicted CO2 uptake at 1 bar and 25 °C closely matches the experimental value, both reaching 4.49 mmol/g. Additionally, at 1 bar and 0 °C, the CO2 uptake of the activated carbon was found to be 7.03 mmol/g. The activated carbon AC0.2-8-515 exhibits exceptional characteristics, including a highly developed specific surface area of 1808 m2/g and a significant microporous volume of 0.67 cm3/g. It also demonstrates good selectivity for CO2/N2 (13.44) and exhibits ease of regeneration with excellent cycling stability even after multiple cycles. The isotherm data obtained from experimental measurements are fitted using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Toth isotherm equations. Among these models, the Toth isotherm equation provides the best fit to the data. Furthermore, the co-pyrolysis process contributes to an increased yield of PET pyrolysis fixed carbon. This study presents a novel solution to address the issues of carbon dioxide capture and white pollution, offering promising prospects for future development.

Comprehensive Kinetic Study of PET Pyrolysis Using TGA.

The pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a well-known process for producing high fuel value. This paper aims to study the kinetics of PET pyrolysis reactions at 4 different heating rates (2, 5, 10, and 20 K min-1) using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) data. TGA data show only one kinetic reaction within the temperature ranges of 650 to 750 K. Five different model-free models, namely, the Freidman (FR), Flynn-Wall-Qzawa (FWO), Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS), Starink (STK), and distributed activation energy model (DAEM), were fitted to the experimental data to obtain the activation energy (Ea) and the pre-exponential factor (A0) of the reaction kinetics. The Coats-Redfern (CR) model equation was fitted with the help of master plot (Criado's) to identify the most convenient reaction mechanism for this system. Ea's values were determined by the application of the five aforementioned models and were found to possess an average value of 212 kJ mol-1. The mechanism of PET pyrolysis reaction was best described by first-order reaction kinetics; this was confirmed by the compensation. Further thermodynamic parameter analysis indicated that the reaction was endothermic in nature.

Co-pyrolysis mechanism of PP and PET under steam atmosphere

The pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) under steam atmosphere is an effective method for reducing impurities and improving the yield of terephthalic acid (TPA). However, the yield is still low compared to the theoretical maximum. Here, further improvements were achieved through the steam-assisted co-pyrolysis of PET and polypropylene (PP). The results showed that the presence of PP inhibits the excessive cracking of PET and promotes the complete cracking of PP to gaseous products. The optimal reaction temperature was found to be 450 °C, with a maximum yield of solid of 85.0 wt%, representing an increase compared to the pyrolysis of pure PET. Further, a large amount of olefin monomer was obtained, and the proportion of carbon dioxide in the gaseous products was reduced to 47.7 vol%, which not only improves the efficiency of resource recovery but also reduces carbon emissions. The reaction mechanism of the co-pyrolysis was also explored through analysis of the products in the co-pyrolysis process and by comparing the measured data with theoretical predictions. It was noticed that TPA has a promoting effect on the pyrolysis of PP. This is mainly because TPA is a highly thermally stable Bronsted acid, which can still provide the acidic catalytic site when PP was thermally decomposed during the co-pyrolysis process. Further, a new hydrogen transfer reaction pathway between PP and PET was discovered via isotope tracing experiments, with density functional theory simulations by Material Studio indicating that this pathway occurs between the active hydrogen on the methyl group of PP and the hydrogen on the benzene ring of PET. This study demonstrates that the monomer yield can be improved through the co-pyrolysis of mixed plastics under steam atmosphere, which has important implications for industrial waste plastic recycling applications.

Insights into co-pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate and polyamide 6 mixture through experiments, kinetic modeling and machine learning

The non-isothermal pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyamide 6 (PA6), and their mixtures was studied in a thermogravimetric analyzer at different heating rates. Temperature of maximum decomposition (Tmax) decreased by 25–45 °C and 35–55 °C for the PET:PA6 mixtures (3:1, 1:1, 1:3) compared to PET and PA6, respectively. The kinetic analysis was initially carried out using isoconversional method. However, the dependency of activation energy on conversion was observed for the co-pyrolysis of PET and PA6 that suggested the occurrence of multi-step reactions in the mixtures. Distributed activation energy model (DAEM) was used in this study to describe the multistep reactions occurring during pyrolysis of PET:PA6 mixtures. In this work, a four-parallel reaction DAEM was developed to describe the pyrolysis kinetics of PET:PA6 mixtures. The apparent mean activation energies (Eo) for PET, PA6, and mixtures varied in the range of 244–255, 140–215, and 138–255 kJ mol−1, respectively. The mass loss profiles of PET and PA6 mixtures were also modeled using artificial neural network (ANN). Out of 155 ANN models, the best prediction was made by ANN511 with R2 greater than 0.997 for both test and unseen data. The interaction effects observed through TGA experiments and subsequent kinetic analysis were further assessed in terms of product composition using analytical pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer (Py-GC/MS). Co-pyrolysis of PET and PA6 resulted in the formation of new aromatic compounds with nitrogen-containing functional groups, which were not detected when PET or PA6 were pyrolyzed individually.

Pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate and polystyrene for the synthesis of carbon nanostructures: a bibliometric review

Este artículo se presenta una revisión bibliométrica del proceso de pirólisis de dos tipos de polímeros: tereftalato de polietileno y poliestireno (PET y PS, por sus siglas en inglés), para identificar las condiciones necesarias y así optimizar el proceso de pirólisis, garantizando la producción mayoritaria del producto gaseoso con el objetivo de llevar a cabo un segundo proceso, el crecimiento de nanoestructuras de carbono. Precursores gaseosos como el metano, acetileno y etileno son hidrocarburos esenciales para el crecimiento de dichas nanoestructuras, de las que se destacan según la literatura, una variedad de nanotubos de carbono de pared simple, de pared doble, y de pared múltiple (SWCNT, DWCNT y MWCNT, por sus siglas en inglés) y nano fibras de carbono (CNF, por sus siglas en inglés). En este trabajo se realiza un análisis de las condiciones más relevantes para optimizar el proceso de pirólisis de polímeros, es decir, disminuir la temperatura y tiempos de reacción y mejorar la composición de los productos obtenidos del proceso pirolítico. Finalmente se dan a conocer los reportes más relevantes de la pirolisis de los polímeros expuestos en la literatura.

Conversion of polyethylene terephthalate waste into high-yield porous carbon adsorbent via pyrolysis of dipotassium terephthalate

A method for conversion of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste into porous carbon material is proposed. The recycling of PET bottle waste includes the stages of low-temperature hydrolysis of the polymer and subsequent pyrolysis at 800 °C. To provide PET hydrolysis at ∼150 °C and atmospheric pressure, the polymer was pre-dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide and then an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide was added. The potassium terephthalate formed as a result of the alkaline hydrolysis of PET allows the carbon-containing precursor to be preserved for further activation to temperatures beyond 600 °C. The proposed method leads to the formation of a porous carbon material, increasing the yield of carbon residue to 25 wt%, which is higher compared to the yield of carbon residue in the direct pyrolysis of PET. The obtained porous carbon is characterized by graphite-like structure and specific surface area of ∼1100 m2 g−1. It has been shown that PET-derived carbon material can be used to remove pollutants from aqueous media. The adsorption properties of the carbon material were demonstrated by adsorption of methylene blue from an aqueous solution. The capacity of the carbon material was found to be 443 mg g−1.

Catalytic Steam-Assisted Pyrolysis of PET for the Upgrading of TPA

Compared with conventional pyrolysis, steam-assisted pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) can effectively eliminate char and upgrade terephthalic acid (TPA). However, during steam-assisted pyrolysis of PET, the degree of cracking still varies greatly, and while some of the product is excessively cracked to gas, the other part is still insufficiently cracked. In addition, these two types of products seriously affect the yield and purity of TPA. To further enhance the TPA, an attempt was made to reduce these impurities simultaneously by synergistic catalysis among the different components of the metal-acid catalyst. Through a series of experiments, Pt@Hzsm-5 was screened as the optimal catalyst. In the catalytic steam-assisted pyrolysis of PET, the optimum reaction temperature decreased to 400 °C, the calculated yield of TPA increased to 98.23 wt%, and the purity increased to 92.2%. The Pt@Hzsm-5 could be recycled three times with no significant decrease in the obtained yield of TPA. The catalytic mechanism of the Pt@Hzsm-5 was investigated through the analysis of the products and isotope tracing experiments. The Pt catalyzed the hydrogen transfer reaction between the water molecules and PET molecules, which inhibited the excessive cracking of TPA by improving the hydrogen transfer efficiency, reduced the generation of gaseous products, and improved the calculated yield of TPA. In contrast, the Hzsm-5 catalyzed the reaction of monovinyl ester cracking to TPA, effectively reducing the impurities in the solid product, increasing the olefin yield, and improving the purity of TPA. This discovery not only clarifies the synergistic catalytic effect of the Pt@Hzsm-5 in the steam-assisted pyrolysis of the PET reaction but also lays the foundation for further screening of other inexpensive metal-acid catalysts. This is of great significance to realize the industrial application of TPA preparation by PET pyrolysis.

PETpyrolysis and hydrolysis mechanism in the fixed pyrolyzer

AbstractIn the conventional polyethylene terephthalate (PET) pyrolysis process, the formation of char by excessive pyrolysis is mainly due to the dehydration mechanism, so water is considered an auxiliary agent that can effectively inhibit excessive pyrolysis. The preparation of terephthalic acid (TPA) by steam‐assisted pyrolysis of PET is an effective method to achieve closed‐loop recycling of waste PET. To ensure that the reaction is mild enough to reduce excessive cracking products such as char and benzoic acid and thus increase the yield of TPA, it is critical to reduce the reaction rate while maintaining a sufficient excess steam coefficient. Under the optimal operating conditions, when the temperature rise rate was 0.5 °C min−1and the excess steam coefficient was 150, the yield of TPA was 72.5 wt.%, and the purity was 85.5%. Noticeably, the steam‐assisted pyrolysis system is a heterogeneous reaction system whose reaction mechanism is different from the conventional hydrolysis and pyrolysis reactions and has a unique reaction path. The mechanistic study indicates that, in addition to the thermal cracking of PET molecules occurring in conventional pyrolysis, hydroxyl attack and transfer, and supplementation of benzene ring hydrogen also occur between water and intermediate molecules. Meanwhile, it has also been proven that the intermolecular hydrogen transfer between intermediate molecules and water molecules is the key to reduce the intensity of the reaction and inhibit the formation of char. This discovery illustrates the mechanism of the reaction between water and PET in the steam‐assisted pyrolysis process in the fixed pyrolyzer and justifies the distinction between it and the pyrolysis and hydrolysis processes of PET. It provides a theoretical basis for optimizing the pyrolysis process of PET, which is essential for the industrialization of TPA preparation from PET steam‐assisted pyrolysis.

Preparation of nanocarbon modified vermiculite ceramics with excellent adsorption capacity

sNanocarbon modified vermiculite porous ceramics with hydrophobicity were prepared using vermiculite as the starting materials and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the carbon precursor via the catalytic reaction method. The microstructures, hydrophobicity, and adsorption capacity of as-prepared porous ceramics were characterized by scanning electron microscope, water contact angle testing, and weight gaining, respectively. The results revealed that the nano-carbon generated from the pyrolysis of PET formed on the surface of the pores in ceramics. The water contact angle of as-prepared modified porous ceramics with 82% porosity was up to 123 °. The as-prepared porous ceramics showed highly efficient adsorption to oils and were very durable, and would be excellent candidate materials to separate the oil from the water/oil mixture.

Catalytic Pyrolysis of PET Polymer Using Nonisothermal Thermogravimetric Analysis Data: Kinetics and Artificial Neural Networks Studies.

This paper presents the catalytic pyrolysis of a constant-composition mixture of zeolite β and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) at different heating rates (2, 5, 10, and 20 K/min). The thermograms showed only one main reaction and shifted to higher temperatures with increasing heating rate. In addition, at constant heating rate, they moved to lower temperatures of pure PET pyrolysis when a catalyst was added. Four isoconversional models, namely, Kissinger−Akahira−Sunose (KAS), Friedman, Flynn−Wall−Qzawa (FWO), and Starink, were applied to obtain the activation energy (Ea). Values of Ea acquired by these models were very close to each other with average value of Ea = 154.0 kJ/mol, which was much lower than that for pure PET pyrolysis. The Coats−Redfern and Criado methods were employed to set the most convenient solid-state reaction mechanism. These methods revealed that the experimental data matched those obtained by different mechanisms depending on the heating rate. Values of Ea obtained by these two models were within the average values of 157 kJ/mol. An artificial neural network (ANN) was utilized to predict the remaining weight fraction using two input variables (temperature and heating rate). The results proved that ANN could predict the experimental value very efficiently (R2 > 0.999) even with new data.

Fire retardant polyethylene terephthalate containing 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol-substituted cyclotriphosphazene microspheres

Polyphosphazene derivatives are gaining popularity due to their eco-friendly character and high content of flame-retardant components. Herein, a polyphosphazene derivative (PZAF) microsphere was successfully synthesized utilizing an in-situ template approach, which was then employed as an additive flame retardant in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to improve the fire safety. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that PZAF promoted the pyrolysis of PET in advance to generate a stable char layer that protects the matrix from heat, consequently increasing char residues. With addition of 10 wt% PZAF, the PET nanocomposites obtained a V-0 grade in vertical combustion test and its LOI value increased from 24.2 vol% to 32.1 vol%. Moreover, the peak heat release and carbon monoxide production decreased by 46.6% and 50.6%, respectively. This was because the phosphonic acid fragments and pyridine ring compounds produced by the PZAF pyrolysis encouraged the development of a robust char layer. Meanwhile, the •PO radicals generated by the pyrolysis of PZAF could capture free radicals in the gas phase, ultimately ending the chain reaction of combustion. Also, mechanical properties of the PET nanocomposites were noticeably enhanced by the addition of 3 or 5 wt% PZAF.

Effects of volatiles on properties of char during sequential pyrolysis of PET and cellulose

Interaction of the volatiles in co-pyrolysis of plastics and biomass is known to affect properties of pyrolysis products. Nevertheless, in co-pyrolysis, except the interaction between the volatiles, the volatiles could also interact with the char of same or different origin. Thus, understanding the specific effects of the volatiles of plastics/biomass on the evolution of the char from biomass/plastics is difficult. Hence, the investigation of the sequential pyrolysis of cellulose and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) at 600 °C was to explore the specific influences of volatiles from cellulose/PET in upper bed on the property of the char from PET/cellulose in lower bed. During sequential pyrolysis with cellulose in upper bed, the cellulose-derived oxygen-rich radicals promoted the cracking of the organic component on the PET-derived char, which significantly reduced the char yield while promoted the formation of heavy organics products and reduced hydrophobicity of the PET-derived char. Additionally, the cellulose-derived volatiles (e.g. ketones and aldehydes) involved in the secondary polymerization reactions with the volatiles from PET, forming more phenolics. PET-derived hydrocarbon-rich molecules did not promote charring reactions of the cellulose-derived char but increased hydrophobicity of the cellulose-char. Moreover, the varied interaction of the volatiles also significantly impacted thermal stability of the functional groups of char.

Microwave co-pyrolysis of PET bottle waste and rice husk: effect of plastic waste loading on product formation

This research work is focused to understand the role of microwave susceptor-assisted pyrolysis on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle waste with rice husk (RH) valorization. Microwave pyrolysis/co-pyrolysis experiments were conducted at 450 W microwave power using a graphite susceptor. Effects of PET: RH ratio and total mass of co-pyrolysis feed mixture were thoroughly investigated. Mass and energy yields of bio-crude, char, and gas were evaluated. Microwave energy consumption and energy efficiency of pyrolysis were also evaluated. Pyrolysis energy efficiency is higher at 40 g (73–76%) compared to 20 g (53–75%) of co-pyrolysis feed mixture. The heating value of bio-crude was high (34–36 MJ/kg) due to carbon (79–83 wt%) and hydrogen (5–6 wt%) rich compounds. Bio-crude composition significantly varied with PET: RH ratios. Co-pyrolysis promoted the formation of aromatic oxygenates and biphenyl hydrocarbons. The selectivity of biphenyl hydrocarbons (29.2%) is high at an equal PET: RH ratio. The selectivity of hydrocarbons obtained at the 20:20 (PET: RH) ratio is found to be 47.5%. The selectivity of aromatic hydrocarbons obtained in microwave pyrolysis (47.9%) of PET is higher compared to conventional pyrolysis (8%). In microwave pyrolysis of RH, the high selectivity of aromatic oxygenates (73%) was obtained. Whereas, in conventional pyrolysis, the formation of aliphatic oxygenates (36.5%) was observed. This research would provide an understanding of waste valorization using the co-pyrolysis platform.

Technical and environmental assessment of laboratory scale approach for sustainable management of marine plastic litter

Laboratory scale recycling of marine plastic litter consisting of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle sorting, pyrolysis and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was conducted to identify the technical and environmental implications of the technology when dealing with real waste streams. Collected seashore and underwater plastics (SP and UP, respectively) contained large quantities of PET bottles (33.2 wt% and 61.4 wt%, respectively), suggesting PET separation was necessary prior to pyrolysis. After PET sorting, marine litter was converted into pyrolysis oil and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Water-based washing of litter prior to pyrolysis did not significantly change the composition of pyrolysis products and could be avoided, eliminating freshwater consumption. However, distinct differences in oil and MWCNT properties were ascribed to the variations in feedstock composition. Maintaining consistent product quality would be one of challenges for thermochemical treatment of marine litter. As for the environmental implications, life cycle assessment (LCA) demonstrated positive benefits, including improved climate change and fossil depletion potentials. The highest positive environmental impacts were associated with MWCNT production followed by pyrolysis oil and PET recovery. The benefits of proposed approach combining PET sorting, pyrolysis and CVD allowed to close the waste loop by converting most of the marine litter into valuable products.

The Use of Low Cost Nanoporous Catalysts on the Catalytic Pyrolysis of Polyethylene Terephthalate.

This study evaluated the feasibility of low-cost nanoporous catalysts, such as dolomite and red mud, on the production of aromatic hydrocarbons via the catalytic pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Compared to the non-catalytic pyrolysis of PET, catalytic pyrolysis over both dolomite and red mud produced larger amounts of aromatic hydrocarbons owing to their catalytic cracking efficiency and decarboxylation efficiency. Between the two catalysts, red mud, having a larger BET surface area and higher basicity than dolomite, showed higher efficiency for the production of aromatic hydrocarbons.

A two-dimensional distributed activation energy model for pyrolysis of solid fuels

Pyrolysis kinetic models are pivotal for understanding and optimizing the gasification, distillation, and combustion processes. This paper proposes a novel two-dimensional distributed activation energy model (2D-DAEM), which is achieved via extending the classical DAEM to the 2D plane of activation energy E and pre-exponential factor A. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated based upon comprehensive analyses of complex reactions such as co-pyrolysis. The results show that the 2D-DAEM outperforms the classical DAEM in terms of efficiency and accuracy. Specifically, the co-pyrolysis analysis of pine woodchips (PINE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), shows that the classical DAEM tends to underestimate the lnA values (i.e., 43.0 for PINE pyrolysis; 42.0 for PET pyrolysis; but 39.2 for PINE&PET co-pyrolysis), while the lnA value of 2D-DAEM (about 43.0 for all) is more reasonable. Additionally, the 2D-DAEM is employed to study the influence of coal particle size on pyrolysis. It is observed that the 25 μm coal has the highest reaction rate under both 500 K and 1500 K iso-thermal processes. As a more normative, reasonable, and accurate model, the proposed 2D-DAEM is bound to enhance the practice of reaction prediction, material analysis, and process design.

Effect of Temperature on Pyrolysis Oil Using High-Density Polyethylene and Polyethylene Terephthalate Sources From Mobile Pyrolysis Plant

This research aims to study the effect of temperature, collecting time, and condensers on properties of pyrolysis oil. The research was done be analyzing viscosity, density, proportion of pyrolysis products and performance of each condenser towers for the pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in the mobile pyrolysis plant. Results showed that the main product of HDPE resin was liquid, and the main product of PET resin was solid. Since the pyrolysis of PET results in mostly solid which blocked up the pipe, the analysis of pyrolysis oil would be from the use of HDPE as a raw material. The pyrolysis of HDPE resin in the amount of 100 kg at 400, 425, and 450°C produced the amount of oil 22.5, 27, and 40.5 L, respectively. The study found that 450°C was the temperature that gives the highest amount of pyrolysis oil in the experiment. The viscosity was in the range of 3.287–4.850 cSt. The density was in the range of 0.668–0.740 kg/L. The viscosity and density were increased according to three factors: high pyrolysis temperature, number of condensers and longer sampling time. From the distillation at temperatures below 65, 65–170, 170–250, and above 250°C, all refined products in each temperature range had the carbon number according to their boiling points. The distillation of pyrolysis oil in this experiment provided high amount of kerosene, followed by gasoline and diesel.
