Pyroelectric Infrared (PIR) Sensor Modules which are widely used in order to detect heating sources passing their field of views, are non-imaging electronic optical (EO) systems, in which the output is considered to be random signal over time. Specifying optical axis position of such system is certainly essential and challenging. This paper presents the uncertainty analysis of a measurement of centering error of the PIR sensor module that is conducted in a setup using a modulated infrared radiating source. The analysis helps point out specific parameters, such as, the difference between background temperature and heating source temperature; modulating frequency, etc., which have greatest effect on the measurement accuracy of such EO system.
