By studying the mixture of graphite and PTFE, it can be found that graphite preferentially transferred to the surface of PTFE particle, and the graphite transfer film possesses strong physical absorption on surface of PTFE. The formation of the transfer film on PTFE surface produced a new chemical circumstance around the PTFE surface, similar to the so-called “solvent effect”, which is named “solid solvent effect” in this work. This changing process can be obtained by using IR reflection techniques. Thus, the IR reflection spectroscopy may serve as a method for tribological surface investigations of polymers and their composites.
