Application progress of digital technology in the protection of Chinese traditional villages

As a new trend of cultural heritage protection, digital technology has brought opportunities and challenges to the detection, protection and development of traditional villages. First, this article introduces the specific application of digital technology in the three stages of data collection, information processing and display and dissemination, and constructs the corresponding integrated application diagram, then summarizes the implementation obstacles in the protection process. Finally, a prospect is made for the development of digital protection of traditional villages. The results show that digital technology can provide a strong data foundation and flexible processing methods for the storage, restoration, display and dissemination of traditional village protection, and promote the transformation of single technology to multiple integrated applications.

Data science based landscape ecology for traditional village landscape protection

With the revitalisation of rural areas and the advancement of new rural construction, at present, the traditional village protection has received more attention. The optimisation of village layout is an essential issue in the protection of traditional villages, which is not only an objective demand for rural development, but also an important way to protect and avoid damage to the ecological and landscape patterns of the original villages. With the increase in the development of traditional villages, the general scale and shape of traditional villages have found profound changes. The phenomenon of village landscape convergence and original landscape destruction occurs from time to time. In the new situation, the traditional village protection faces new opportunities and challenges. By using landscape ecology theory to guide the preservation of traditional villages, the integrity, authenticity and continuity of traditional villages can be maintained. This article takes Yueqing Town, Bailong Village and Shixian Town, Shuinan Village in Yanbian Prefecture, Jilin Province as the research objects, applying the landscape pattern index to quantitatively analyse its overall landscape. On this basis, the village landscape optimisation and preservation strategy is proposed, which has certain reference value for the preservation and reuse of traditional villages in Jilin Province.

Quantitative Analysis of Spatial Distribution Characteristics of Traditional Villages in Hunan Province

This study takes 658 traditional villages in Hunan province as the research object. Relying on ArcGIS geographic information system, the traditional villages in Hunan province were abstracted into point sets with attribute information. By means of average nearest neighbor distance analysis, kernel density analysis and intercity distribution comparison, the basic geographical characteristics of traditional villages in Hunan province were summarized, that is, significant agglomeration distribution, three agglomeration areas and uneven intercity distribution. Multiple types of natural geographical factors were superimposed, such as elevation, slope aspect, slope, river, water systems, annual precipitation and annual average temperature, so as to analyze the impact of elevation topography, river system and climate conditions on village site selection. With the help of geographic detector tool, the correlation between elevation, slope, water system, annual average temperature, annual precipitation and village distribution was quantitatively analyzed. Through the analysis of correlation degree, interaction and single factor characteristics, it is concluded that natural geographical factors are related to village distribution and multiple factors interact with each other. Based on the quantitative analysis of interactions between traditional villages and the natural environment, the distribution characteristics of traditional villages have been summarized, providing reference for the subsequent systematic research and protection of traditional villages.

A Summary of the Study on the Authenticity of Traditional Village Architecture Space

The principle of authenticity is the basic and primary principle of the protection of historical and cultural heritage. It is the key to measuring the value of the heritage and the basis for the protection of the heritage. It is inseparable from the protection of traditional villages. Research on grey situation decision in the context of system analysis of village planning projects using fuzzy TOPSIS

Problems involving decision-making and management of engineering projects call for attention from different quarters and the issue of decision-making for projects under the state planning in particular should be the major concern of project management. This study takes a traditional village protection project —- the preservation of Zaoshi Village, Xingan County, Jiangxi Province, China—- as a case in point. Treating the decision-making process as a system, the study employs ISM model to examine the system-level relationship between engineering projects. Artificial Intelligence is utilized for analyzing the planning of project structure and Fuzzy TOPSIS model is useful in estimating the weights of the scenario and find the ranking of structure finally. Then, using the analytical data thus derived, the research focuses on identifying the optimum option for decision-making. By this process, the study intends to gain and share some insight into the issue and establish precedents for similar engineering projects.

Optimal application of multi-agent environmental decisionmaking model in the replication and relocation of traditional villages in areas prone to geological hazards—taking wengcao village, a traditional village in Guzhang county, western Hunan as an example

Wengcao Village, listed in the fourth batch of traditional villages in China, is a remote Miao village which built in a landslide-prone risk, and always at the risk of geological hazard-prone area. In order to solve the contradiction between the protection of traditional villages and the economic development of traditional villages, on the basis of environmental behavior, spatial behavior and complex theory, the author combined with the investigation. For the first time, a four-dimensional collaboration model of expert supervision, enterprise leadership, government guidance, and public participation was creatively proposed to ensure the replication and relocation of traditional villages. Aim to ensure the smooth progress of the replication and construction of traditional villages, the current popular neural network prediction model and reinforcement learning multi-agent model are combined to build a replication and construction decision model and its optimize to avoid possible future risks.

Predicaments and Landscape Changes in Traditional Village Transformational Development - A Case Study of Chongqing, China

The protection of traditional villages plays an important role in the strategy of inheriting Chinese outstanding history and culture, and it is also an important type for the transformation and development of traditional farming civilization to modern ecological civilization. In this paper, it is held that, currently, traditional village transformation and development follow the laws of policy orientation attracting capital intervention, capital intervention promoting village development, and village development supporting policy orientation in turn with actual internal forces, realizing a ternary integrated development path for the country, market, and village. Based on the logic inference and deduction on the three-dimensional path driven by departmental policy capital, urban industrial and commercial capital as well as rural community and owned capital, a series of typical cases of Chongqing are selected for demonstration. Studies show: (1) At this stage, traditional village transformation and development will inevitably be driven by both internal and external forces, since the driving power of one single force is limited. Only by conforming to external driving forces such as policies and capital and internal endowments of village resources, culture and economic foundation, can the predicament in traditional village transformation and development be overcome; (2) The key to realizing rural transformation and development lies in stimulating internal driving forces of villages. Economic reconstruction with industry cultivation as its core is the most active factor in rural development, and it plays a leading role in social and landscape reconstruction; (3) Historical rural landscape is an important resource for the transformation and development of villages. Therefore, both macro policies and regulations and capital intervention should be based on a full understanding of the value of historical landscape, and a thorough and true cognition and evaluation on the composition and characteristics of historical landscape.

Digital protection of traditional villages of “Retaining Homesickness”

Analyzing the Causes of Spatial Differentiation of the Traditional Villages in Gansu Province, Western China

The study and protection for traditional villages are very important for us to protect Chinese historical and cultural heritage. Data show that under the condition of rapid urbanization. The number and coverage of traditional villages in western China are decreasing. It is impossible to effectively protect a large number of rural settlements at the bottom of China’s traditional settlement system. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the spatial survival status of traditional villages and protect them comprehensively and extensively. Using the digital elevation model (DEM) data of traditional villages in Gansu Province, China, published by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the attribute data obtained by the Statistics Bureau of Gansu Province, China, the nuclear density, the Mulan indices, the correlations between the heights and the centers are calculated and used to study the spatial different characteristics of the villages, and a number of results have been achieved: 1) In spatial differentiation, the spatial agglomeration of the villages is obvious and different, which can be seen by the distribution of the villages from along the upper reaches of the Yellow River to the southeast, and the distribution of prefecture-level cities is related to the landforms. 2) In vertical spatial distribution, the span of the altitude data is large. Among the villages, the Zagana Village in Diebu County of Gannan City is the highest and the Zhengjiashe Village in Bingkou Town of Longnan City is the lowest. With the increase of altitude, the number of traditional villages generally shows a tendency of decrease. 3) The spatial differentiation of the traditional villages has a clear normal distribution with the elevation, and the spatial differentiation is low, showing a distinct gourd-like structure; the eastern and southern regions are more concentrated, while the northern and western regions are less concentrated. 4) The spatial differences of the traditional villages have the characteristics of regional differences, which are weakly related to the distance between the central cities and occur mainly in the Longnan mountain regions, the Loess Plateau in the middle of Longzhong and the Gannan plateau. The results of this study are a useful support in protection of traditional villages in provincial scale. It helps to enhance the integrity and systematicness of the protection of the spatial distribution of traditionally villages. The Chinese government had put forward the “Poverty alleviation strategy” to help Gansu Province to get out of the villages’ trouble. Viewed from this angle, the research for effective patterns of traditional villages’ protection and exploitation plays a crucial role in the development of China’s “Poverty Alleviation Strategy”.

Research on the Protection of the Architectural Culture of the Traditional Villages of the Qiang Nationality—Taking Taoping Qiang Village as an Example

Architectural culture is the sum of architectural material wealth and architectural spiritual wealth created in the course of human social and historical practice. Building is the carrier of architectural culture. It is loaded with information about the mutual movement of human beings, society, nature and architecture. The synthesis of these information is architectural culture. Architectural culture is an important part of human culture. Research on its protection status can find the memory of history and culture. The architecture of the Qiang ethnic group embodies the unique culture of our nation, and Taoping Qiang Village is a typical example. Taoping Qiang Village is located in the Tibetan-Yi Corridor. It is a typical Sichuan Diaolou dwelling. The Tibetans, Han and Qiang nationalities frequently interact in this area. Eco-city research on Taoping Qiang Village is related to the well-being of the people in traditional villages in ethnic areas. Our study of the protection status of its architectural culture also provides a new example for the construction of traditional village protection. This article first elaborates on the concept of architectural culture and its classification, and then introduces the related architectural culture of Taoping Qiang Village and its protection status and problems in the protection, and finally puts forward some corresponding suggestions for the existing problems.

The study on concession pricing mechanism of traditional village conservation projects based on PPP mode

Even though the introduction of PPP mode to the traditional village protection programs can make the private capital living and ease the government’s fiscal pressure, the direct contradiction between the interests of traditional village is an important factor influencing the successful implementation of the projects. The research on concession pricing mechanism of traditional village projects based on PPP mode aims to deal with the design of reasonable incentive mechanism and the establishment of the government compensation system, and coordinate the relationship among multiple stakeholders in PPP mode to ensure the smooth development of traditional village protection programs. Based on the above analysis, a model of traditional village protection PPP mode by the Multi-objective Planning could be built and according to the interests of participating subjects, the constraint conditions and priority ranking could be set. In the end of this paper, the solution of the franchising price interval was calculated by empirical analysis.

At present, the financing gap seriously restricts the comprehensive and orderly promotion of traditional village protection work. Introducing the PPP model into the construction of traditional village protection projects has become one of the effective ways to solve the financing gap. In order to improve the efficiency of the concession price adjustment of the traditional village protection PPP project, and coordinate the relationship among the multiple stakeholders of PPP model, this paper uses the least government subsidy, the largest net present value, and the lowest franchise price as the income adjustment target to build the quasi-operability. The linkage adjustment model for PPP project concession period, concession price and subsidy. By adjusting three variables, several schemes are obtained, and finally, according to the max-min synthesis algorithm, the scheme with the greatest degree of multi-objective satisfaction is selected.

A study of spatial-temporal pattern and influencing factors of traditional villages in Shaanxi Province

Taking the 323 villages which were listed in China and Shaanxi province traditional villages as the research object, through analysis the spatial distribution characteristics of traditional villages in Shaanxi province and their correlation with natural environment and socioeconomic factors by applying the method of quantitate geography and GIS spatial methods. The result of the study shows that in terms of space, the traditional villages in Shaanxi are generally clustered, and the distribution is relatively scattered on the local city scale; it is basically equal in the three major areas, but there are great differences among areas. Because of relatively closed regional environment, dangerous terrain, less convenient transportation and relatively back-ward socioeconomic and urbanization level, which provide important conditions for the protection of traditional villages, those factors also affect the spatial distribution of the traditional villages in Shaanxi. Through the above research to provide a scientific reference for the systematic development and protection of traditional villages in Shaanxi.

Investigation and Analysis of Villagers Participation in Protection of Traditional Villages—Case study in Shaxi

This paper takes Shaxi Town, Jianchuan County as typical case, exploring villager participation in traditional village protection in Yunnan Province, by interviews and questionnaires on-site. The results show that the villagers are playing a role in the village protection, but only relying on the influence of traditional culture and its simple cognition, the engagement is not high. At the end of this paper, two suggestions to improve the villagers' participation in village protection will be given.

Research on Traditional Village Protection Based on Value Evaluation

The traditional village inherits a long history and culture, is an important carrier of harmonious symbiosis between the countryside and the natural environment, and is the essence of rural civilization and the crystallization of culture and art. Traditional villages play a very important role in displaying local culture, protecting outstanding historical buildings and local material resources. In the 21st century, traditional Chinese villages face many difficulties such as the accelerated speed of disappearance, the lack of traditional culture, the weak development of the protection of material and non-material elements. Taking Cangkou Village of Nanjing as an example, the material and cultural elements within the village are evaluated for their value from the two levels of value characteristics and strategic measures. According to the results of the value assessment, all material cultural resources points are classified into four levels,and different targeted protection levels of material and cultural elements is carried out; the inheritance of intangible culture and protection also needs to be strengthened. To achieve the protection of traditional villages, on the basis of government policy guarantees, targeted innovations in protection measures are also needed. In the past, the research on the protection of traditional villages was mainly qualitative. The research in this paper focuses on the combination of quantitative and qualitative, and has certain reference significance for the protection research of traditional villages.

Rural Spatial Form Based on 3D Simulation Model

In order to correlate the rural physical form with the subjective cognition, the rural spatial form and human space behavior were explored. Human cognitive mechanisms in complex spaces were studied. By using virtual reality technology, the spatial morphology and cognitive mechanism of three villages in X, Y and Z were analyzed. The results showed that the three villages had different degrees of spatial perception to the participants. The degree of X was the deepest, the degree of Y was in the middle, and the degree of Z was the smallest. This method extends the application of virtual reality technology in the field of traditional village protection. The research results provide theoretical basis and data support for village protection and renewal planning.

Research on the localization method of protecting traditional village landscape: a case study on Tangyin

Abstract. China has over 271 million villages and less than the number in ten years ago in which there are 363 million villages. New rural construction indeed do some good for common villages but still destroy hundreds and thousands traditional village which contain great cultural, science, artistic values. In addition, traditional villages can't meet the increasing needs in more convenient and comfortable living conditions. Increasing population also makes traditional villages out of control in construction. With the background of this, we have to set up in traditional village protection. This article put forward an idea in protection which make use of landscape localization to pursue the sustainable development and vernacular landscape protection. Tangyin Town is a famous trade center in history and left many cultural heritage, especially historical buildings. Take Tangyin as a case study to apply the localization method which could guide other similar villages to achieve same goals.
