Anatomically Guided PET Image Reconstruction Using Conditional Weakly-Supervised Multi-Task Learning Integrating Self-Attention.

To address the lack of high-quality training labels in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, weakly-supervised reconstruction methods that generate network-based mappings between prior images and noisy targets have been developed. However, the learned model has an intrinsic variance proportional to the average variance of the target image. To suppress noise and improve the accuracy and generalizability of the learned model, we propose a conditional weakly-supervised multi-task learning (MTL) strategy, in which an auxiliary task is introduced serving as an anatomical regularizer for the PET reconstruction main task. In the proposed MTL approach, we devise a novel multi-channel self-attention (MCSA) module that helps learn an optimal combination of shared and task-specific features by capturing both local and global channel-spatial dependencies. The proposed reconstruction method was evaluated on NEMA phantom PET datasets acquired at different positions in a PET/CT scanner and 26 clinical whole-body PET datasets. The phantom results demonstrate that our method outperforms state-of-the-art learning-free and weakly-supervised approaches obtaining the best noise/contrast tradeoff with a significant noise reduction of approximately 50.0% relative to the maximum likelihood (ML) reconstruction. The patient study results demonstrate that our method achieves the largest noise reductions of 67.3% and 35.5% in the liver and lung, respectively, as well as consistently small biases in 8 tumors with various volumes and intensities. In addition, network visualization reveals that adding the auxiliary task introduces more anatomical information into PET reconstruction than adding only the anatomical loss, and the developed MCSA can abstract features and retain PET image details.

Research on Azimuth DBF Method of HRWS SPC MAB SAR Imaging Mode with Non-Ideal Antenna Mode

Single-phase center multiple azimuth beam (SPC MAB) mode is an effective method for high-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) SAR imaging. The traditional azimuth spectrum reconstruction method for SPC MAB mode is based on the combination scheme from which fake targets along the azimuth direction arise because the inter-beam interference is not considered. When the real antenna mode is inconsistent with the ideal one, the disadvantages of the combination scheme become more serious. In this paper, based on the basic theory of the low-pass, band-limited, multiple-channel under-sampling and reconstruction, a novel digital beam-forming method is proposed for the SPC MAB imaging mode with ideal antenna mode first. The method analyzes the system functions of the sub-beams, based on which digital beam-forming filters are designed for all the sub-beams. The designed filters can reconstruct the correct wide-bandwidth azimuth spectrum and suppress the inter-beam interference simultaneously. Furthermore, the proposed method is extended to SPC MAB mode with the non-ideal antenna mode. The simulation experiments prove the validities of the proposed method both for azimuth spectral reconstruction and the inter-beams interfering suppressing, no matter that the SPC MAB’s antenna mode is ideal or non-ideal.

From Pseudo to Real: Generalized Subspace Method for Power Spectrum Reconstruction

Subspace methods are widely used in statistical signal processing owing to their super-resolution. Conventional subspace methods, such as multiple signal classification (MUSIC) identify parameters containing frequency and direction of arrival by calculating pseudo-spectra without physical amplitudes. However, the real value of amplitude plays a significant role in fault diagnosis and condition monitoring. Additionally, due to hardware limitations and increased frequency, uniform (Nyquist) sampling becomes challenging. Nonuniform sampling, an alternative to high-rate sampling is common in practice. Consequently, Nonuniform (sub-Nyquist) signal processing methods are urgently required. In this paper, a generalized subspace method (GSM) is proposed to bridge the pseudo spectrum with the real spectrum. The proposed method is a supplement to the existing subspace methods and is applicable to both uniform and nonuniform sampling. In the GSM, the Fourier coefficient of the autocorrelation function is derived by signal subspace from the perspective of basis matching. Then, an alias-free real power spectrum is obtained by combining the power spectrum reconstructed by GSM with the classical pseudo spectrum. Finally, simulation and experiment demonstrate the performance of the proposed method in power spectrum reconstruction. Even under the dual influence of undersampled and nonuniform, the proposed method is still effective.

Displacement Reconstruction Based on Physics-Informed DeepONet Regularizing Geometric Differential Equations of Beam or Plate

Physics-informed DeepONet (PI_DeepONet) is utilized for the reconstruction task of structural displacement based on measured strain. For beam and plate structures, the PI_DeepONet is built by regularizing the strain–displacement relation and boundary conditions, referred to as geometric differential equations (GDEs) in this paper, and the training datasets are constructed by modeling strain functions with mean-zero Gaussian random fields. For the GDEs with more than one Neumann boundary condition, an algorithm is proposed to balance the interplay between different loss terms. The algorithm updates the weight of each loss term adaptively using the back-propagated gradient statistics during the training process. The trained network essentially serves as a solution operator of GDEs, which directly maps the strain function to the displacement function. We demonstrate the application of the proposed method in the displacement reconstruction of Euler–Bernoulli beams and Kirchhoff plates, without any paired strain–displacement observations. The PI_DeepONet exhibits remarkable precision in the displacement reconstruction, with the reconstructed results achieving a close proximity, surpassing 99%, to the finite element calculations.

Image reconstruction method for incomplete CT projection based on self-guided image filtering.

In some fields of medical diagnosis or industrial nondestructive testing, it is difficult to obtain complete computed tomography (CT) data due to the limitation of radiation dose or other factors. Therefore, image reconstruction of incomplete projection data is the focus of this paper. In this paper, a new image reconstruction model based on self-guided image filtering (SGIF) term is proposed for few-view and segmental limited-angle (SLA) CT reconstruction. Then the alternating direction method (ADM) is used to solve this model. For simplicity, we call it ADM-SGIF method. The key idea of ADM-SGIF method is to use the reconstructed image itself as a reference and utilize its structural features to guide CT reconstruction. This method can effectively preserve image structures and remove shading artifacts. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed reconstruction method, we conduct digital phantom and real CT data experiments. The results indicate that ADM-SGIF method outperforms competing methods, including total variation (TV), relative total variation (RTV), and L0-norm minimization solved by ADM (ADM-L0) methods, in both subjective and objective evaluations.

A deterministic descriptive regularization-based method for SAR tomography in urban areas

ABSTRACT In recent years, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Tomography (TomoSAR) has ascertained great potential for the three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction of observed scenes, especially in urban areas. However, the number of proceed snapshots (observations) is usually less than that of slant height samples (unknowns) in TomoSAR inversion processes. This impairs the quality of the reconstructed vertical information. To cope with this issue and improve the reliability of reconstructed vertical information, this paper investigates the possible potential of a deterministic descriptive regularization-based method. Deterministic descriptive regularization is a well-conditioned optimization framework based on the descriptive idea of a regularization solution. This strategy can help to mitigate the effect of the ill-posed problem. Thus, it can assist SAR tomography to deal with the possible impairing issues arising from low numbers and the distribution of baselines. For this purpose, the result of the proposed strategy is compared with the outcomes from the standard TomoSAR techniques, including Beamforming, Capon, and Minimum Norm. The proposed method for reconstruction of the reflectivity function of the observed scene has been performed on a dataset acquired by the Sentinel-1 sensor in 2022 over Tehran City, Iran. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm can estimate building heights with a vertical accuracy of better than 91%. These results demonstrate the great potential of the proposed method for reconstructing the full 3-D images of urban areas.

A Semantically Aware Multi-View 3D Reconstruction Method for Urban Applications

The task of 3D reconstruction of urban targets holds pivotal importance for various applications, including autonomous driving, digital twin technology, and urban planning and development. The intricate nature of urban landscapes presents substantial challenges in attaining 3D reconstructions with high precision. In this paper, we propose a semantically aware multi-view 3D reconstruction method for urban applications which incorporates semantic information into the technical 3D reconstruction. Our research primarily focuses on two major components: sparse reconstruction and dense reconstruction. For the sparse reconstruction process, we present a semantic consistency-based error filtering approach for feature matching. To address the challenge of errors introduced by the presence of numerous dynamic objects in an urban scene, which affects the Structure-from-Motion (SfM) process, we propose a computation strategy based on dynamic–static separation to effectively eliminate mismatches. For the dense reconstruction process, we present a semantic-based Semi-Global Matching (sSGM) method. This method leverages semantic consistency to assess depth continuity, thereby enhancing the cost function during depth estimation. The improved sSGM method not only significantly enhances the accuracy of reconstructing the edges of the targets but also yields a dense point cloud containing semantic information. Through validation using architectural datasets, the proposed method was found to increase the reconstruction accuracy by 32.79% compared to the original SGM, and by 63.06% compared to the PatchMatch method. Therefore, the proposed reconstruction method holds significant potential in urban applications.

A proposed reconstruction method of a 3D animation scene based on a fuzzy long and short-term memory algorithm.

With the development of computer technology leading to a broad range of virtual technology implementations, the construction of virtual tasks has become highly demanded and has increased rapidly, especially in animation scenes. Constructing three-dimensional (3D) animation characters utilizing properties of actual characters could provide users with immersive experiences. However, a 3D face reconstruction (3DFR) utilizing a single image is a very demanding operation in computer graphics and vision. In addition, limited 3D face data sets reduce the performance improvement of the proposed approaches, causing a lack of robustness. When datasets are large, face recognition, transformation, and animation implementations are relatively practical. However, some reconstruction methods only consider the one-to-one processes without considering the correlations or differences in the input images, resulting in models lacking information related to face identity or being overly sensitive to face pose. A face model composed of a convolutional neural network (CNN) regresses 3D deformable model coefficients for 3DFR and alignment tasks. The manuscript proposes a reconstruction method for 3D animation scenes employing fuzzy LSMT-CNN (FLSMT-CNN). Multiple collected images are employed to reconstruct 3D animation characters. First, the serialized images are processed by the proposed method to extract the features of face parameters and then improve the conventional deformable face modeling (3DFDM). Afterward, the 3DFDM is utilized to reconstruct animation characters, and finally, high-precision reconstructions of 3D faces are achieved. The FLSMT-CNN has enhanced both the precision and strength of the reconstructed 3D animation characters, which provides more opportunities to be applied to other animation scenes.

A Framework for Reconstructing Super-Resolution Magnetic Resonance Images from Sparse Raw Data Using Multilevel Generative Methods

Super-resolution magnetic resonance (MR) scans give anatomical data for quantitative analysis and treatment. The use of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in image processing and deep learning research have led to super-resolution reconstruction methods based on deep learning. The study offers a G-guided generative multilevel network for training 3D neural networks with poorly sampled MR input data. The author suggest using super-resolution reconstruction (SRR) and modified sparse sampling to address these issues. Image-based Wasserstein GANs retain k-space data sparsity. Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks (WGANs) store and represent picture space knowledge. The method obtains null-valued k-space data and repairs fill gaps in the dataset to preserve data integrity. The proposed reconstruction method processes raw data samples and is able to perform subspace synchronization, deblurring, denoising, motion estimation, and super-resolution image production. The suggested algorithm uses different preprocessing methods to deblur and denoise datasets. Preliminary trials contextualize and speed up assessments. Results indicate that reconstructed pictures have better high-frequency features than sophisticated multi-frame techniques. This is supported by rising PSNR, MAE, and IEM measurements. A k-space correction block improves GAN network refinement learning in the suggested method. This block improves the network’s ability to avoid unnecessary data, speeding reconstruction. A k-space correction module can limit the generator’s output to critical lines, allowing the reconstruction of only missing lines. This improves convergence and speeds rebuilding. This study shows that this strategy reduces aliasing artifacts better than contemporaneous and noniterative methods.

Compressive Perception Image Reconstruction Technology for Basic Mixed Sparse Basis in Metal Surface Detection

<p>Applying Compressed Sensing (CS) technology to robot vision image transmission, an effective method for image reconstruction in robot imaging is proposed to improve the accuracy of reconstruction. Reconstructing images using a mixed sparse representation of DCT and circularly symmetric contour wave transform, the basic algorithm used is the Smoothed Projection Landweber (SPL) algorithm, which optimizes the coefficients under different sparse transformations by incorporating hard thresholding and binary thresholding methods for different sparse bases during iterations. The experiment shows that compared with single sparse base image reconstruction, the proposed reconstruction method has improved reconstruction accuracy.</p> <p> </p>

Spatiotemporal image reconstruction to enable high-frame-rate dynamic photoacoustic tomography with rotating-gantry volumetric imagers.

Dynamic photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT) is a valuable imaging technique for monitoring physiological processes. However, current dynamic PACT imaging techniques are often limited to two-dimensional spatial imaging. Although volumetric PACT imagers are commercially available, these systems typically employ a rotating measurement gantry in which the tomographic data are sequentially acquired as opposed to being acquired simultaneously at all views. Because the dynamic object varies during the data-acquisition process, the sequential data-acquisition process poses substantial challenges to image reconstruction associated with data incompleteness. The proposed image reconstruction method is highly significant in that it will address these challenges and enable volumetric dynamic PACT imaging with existing preclinical imagers. The aim of this study is to develop a spatiotemporal image reconstruction (STIR) method for dynamic PACT that can be applied to commercially available volumetric PACT imagers that employ a sequential scanning strategy. The proposed reconstruction method aims to overcome the challenges caused by the limited number of tomographic measurements acquired per frame. A low-rank matrix estimation-based STIR (LRME-STIR) method is proposed to enable dynamic volumetric PACT. The LRME-STIR method leverages the spatiotemporal redundancies in the dynamic object to accurately reconstruct a four-dimensional (4D) spatiotemporal image. The conducted numerical studies substantiate the LRME-STIR method's efficacy in reconstructing 4D dynamic images from tomographic measurements acquired with a rotating measurement gantry. The experimental study demonstrates the method's ability to faithfully recover the flow of a contrast agent with a frame rate of 10 frames per second, even when only a single tomographic measurement per frame is available. The proposed LRME-STIR method offers a promising solution to the challenges faced by enabling 4D dynamic imaging using commercially available volumetric PACT imagers. By enabling accurate STIRs, this method has the potential to significantly advance preclinical research and facilitate the monitoring of critical physiological biomarkers.

Spectral reflectance reconstruction based on wideband multi-illuminant imaging and a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm.

A method for spectral reflectance factor reconstruction based on wideband multi-illuminant imaging was proposed, using a programmable LED lighting system and modified Bare Bones Particle Swarm Optimization algorithms. From a set of 16 LEDs with different spectral power distributions, nine light sources with correlated color temperatures in the range of 1924 K - 15746 K, most of them daylight simulators, were generated. Samples from three color charts (X-Rite ColorChecker Digital SG, SCOCIE ScoColor paint chart, and SCOCIE ScoColor textile chart), were captured by a color industrial camera under the nine light sources, and used in sequence as training and/or testing colors. The spectral reconstruction models achieved under multi-illuminant imaging were trained and tested using the canonical Bare Bones Particle Swarm Optimization and its proposed modifications, along with six additional and commonly used algorithms. The impacts of different illuminants, illuminant combinations, algorithms, and training colors on reconstruction accuracy were studied comprehensively. The results indicated that training colors covering larger regions of color space give more accurate reconstructions of spectral reflectance factors, and combinations of two illuminants with a large difference of correlated color temperature achieve more than twice the accuracy of that under a single illuminant. Specifically, the average reconstruction error by the method proposed in this paper for patches from two color charts under A + D90 light sources was 0.94 and 1.08 CIEDE2000 color difference units. The results of the experiment also confirmed that some reconstruction algorithms are unsuitable for predicting spectral reflectance factors from multi-illuminant images due to the complexity of optimization problems and insufficient accuracy. The proposed reconstruction method has many advantages, such as being simple in operation, with no requirement of prior knowledge, and easy to implement in non-contact color measurement and color reproduction devices.

Real-time acoustic holography with physics-reinforced contrastive learning for acoustic field reconstruction

Acoustic holography (AH) provides a promising technique for arbitrary acoustic field reconstruction, supporting many applications like robotic micro-nano manipulation, neuromodulation, volumetric imaging, and virtual reality. In AH, three-dimensional (3D) acoustic fields quantified with complex-valued acoustic pressures are reconstructed by virtue of two-dimensional (2D) acoustic holograms. Phase-only hologram (POH) is recently regarded as an energy-efficient way for AH, which is typically implemented by a dynamically programmable phased array of transducers (PATs). As a result, spatiotemporal precise acoustic field reconstruction is enabled by precise, dynamic, and individual actuation of PAT. Thus, 2D POH is required per arbitrary acoustic fields, which can be viewed as a physical inverse problem. However, solving the aforementioned physical inverse problem in numerical manners poses challenges due to its non-linear, high-dimensional, and complex coupling natures. The existing iterative algorithms like the iterative angular spectrum approach (IASA) and iterative backpropagation (IB) still suffer from speed-accuracy trade-offs. Hence, this paper explores a novel physics-iterative-reinforced deep learning method, in which frequency-argument contrastive learning is proposed facilitated by the inherent physical nature of AH, and the energy conservation law is under consideration. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for acoustic field reconstruction, highlighting its significant potential in the domain of acoustics, and pushing forward the combination of physics into deep learning.

Self-calibrated subspace reconstruction for multidimensional MR fingerprinting for simultaneous relaxation and diffusion quantification.

To propose a new reconstruction method for multidimensional MR fingerprinting (mdMRF) to address shading artifacts caused by physiological motion-induced measurement errors without navigating or gating. The proposed method comprises two procedures: self-calibration and subspace reconstruction. The first procedure (self-calibration) applies temporally local matrix completion to reconstruct low-resolution images from a subset of under-sampled data extracted from the k-space center. The second procedure (subspace reconstruction) utilizes temporally global subspace reconstruction with pre-estimated temporal subspace from low-resolution images to reconstruct aliasing-free, high-resolution, and time-resolved images. After reconstruction, a customized outlier detection algorithm was employed to automatically detect and remove images corrupted by measurement errors. Feasibility, robustness, and scan efficiency were evaluated through in vivo human brain imaging experiments. The proposed method successfully reconstructed aliasing-free, high-resolution, and time-resolved images, where the measurement errors were accurately represented. The corrupted images were automatically and robustly detected and removed. Artifact-free T1, T2, and ADC maps were generated simultaneously. The proposed reconstruction method demonstrated robustness across different scanners, parameter settings, and subjects. A high scan efficiency of less than 20 s per slice has been achieved. The proposed reconstruction method can effectively alleviate shading artifacts caused by physiological motion-induced measurement errors. It enables simultaneous and artifact-free quantification of T1, T2, and ADC using mdMRF scans without prospective gating, with robustness and high scan efficiency.

Model-based deep CNN-regularized reconstruction for digital breast tomosynthesis with a task-based CNN image assessment approach

Objective. Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is a quasi-three-dimensional breast imaging modality that improves breast cancer screening and diagnosis because it reduces fibroglandular tissue overlap compared with 2D mammography. However, DBT suffers from noise and blur problems that can lower the detectability of subtle signs of cancers such as microcalcifications (MCs). Our goal is to improve the image quality of DBT in terms of image noise and MC conspicuity. Approach. We proposed a model-based deep convolutional neural network (deep CNN or DCNN) regularized reconstruction (MDR) for DBT. It combined a model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) method that models the detector blur and correlated noise of the DBT system and the learning-based DCNN denoiser using the regularization-by-denoising framework. To facilitate the task-based image quality assessment, we also proposed two DCNN tools for image evaluation: a noise estimator (CNN-NE) trained to estimate the root-mean-square (RMS) noise of the images, and an MC classifier (CNN-MC) as a DCNN model observer to evaluate the detectability of clustered MCs in human subject DBTs. Main results. We demonstrated the efficacies of CNN-NE and CNN-MC on a set of physical phantom DBTs. The MDR method achieved low RMS noise and the highest detection area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) rankings evaluated by CNN-NE and CNN-MC among the reconstruction methods studied on an independent test set of human subject DBTs. Significance. The CNN-NE and CNN-MC may serve as a cost-effective surrogate for human observers to provide task-specific metrics for image quality comparisons. The proposed reconstruction method shows the promise of combining physics-based MBIR and learning-based DCNNs for DBT image reconstruction, which may potentially lead to lower dose and higher sensitivity and specificity for MC detection in breast cancer screening and diagnosis.

GRASP reconstruction amplified with view-sharing and KWIC filtering reduces underestimation of peak velocity in highly-accelerated real-time phase-contrast MRI: A preliminary evaluation in pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.

To develop a highly-accelerated, real-time phase contrast (rtPC) MRI pulse sequence with 40 fps frame rate (25 ms effective temporal resolution). Highly-accelerated golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP) with over regularization may result in temporal blurring, which in turn causes underestimation of peak velocity. Thus, we amplified GRASP performance by synergistically combining view-sharing (VS) and k-space weighted image contrast (KWIC) filtering. In 17 pediatric patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), the conventional GRASP and the proposed GRASP amplified by VS and KWIC (or GRASP + VS + KWIC) reconstruction for rtPC MRI were compared with respect to clinical standard PC MRI in measuring hemodynamic parameters (peak velocity, forward volume, backward volume, regurgitant fraction) at four locations (aortic valve, pulmonary valve, left and right pulmonary arteries). The proposed reconstruction method (GRASP + VS + KWIC) achieved better effective spatial resolution (i.e., image sharpness) compared with conventional GRASP, ultimately reducing the underestimation of peak velocity from 17.4% to 6.4%. The hemodynamic metrics (peak velocity, volumes) were not significantly (p > 0.99) different between GRASP + VS + KWIC and clinical PC, whereas peak velocity was significantly (p < 0.007) lower for conventional GRASP. RtPC with GRASP + VS + KWIC also showed the ability to assess beat-to-beat variation and detect the highest peak among peaks. The synergistic combination of GRASP, VS, and KWIC achieves 25 ms effective temporal resolution (40 fps frame rate), while minimizing the underestimation of peak velocity compared with conventional GRASP.

DIRECT IMAGE RECONSTRUCTION IN MULTI-ELEMENT INTERFEROMETRY

The Ukrainian VLBI system of decameter radio telescopes URAN successfully solves many scientific problems, but implementing aperture synthesis technology has a number of difficulties. One of them is significant phase distortions in this range caused by an inhomogeneous propagation environment. Therefore, the task arose to develop an alternative technology with the conventional name "Interferovision", which would allow us to restore radio images with a limited number of antennas, operate with broadband signals, not require flatness of the objects scene, and have an extended field of view. A method of direct image reconstruction when observing objects in space, using a multi-element interferometer, is proposed. This method is based on a physically based principle that is similar to holography. The wave front is registered by the antennas of the interferometer, and further processing is equivalent to its playback in reverse and registration of the resulting spatial interference image. There are no special requirements for the radiation of individual points of the source, except for its delta correlation. A finite frequency band is considered, and each point can be characterized by its own spectrum, that is, its own autocorrelation function of radiation. The resolution of the direct reconstruction method depends on its width. With the quasi-monochromatic approximation, the autocorrelation functions of the radiation of all the source points degenerate into sinusoids, and the restoration of the image becomes possible only with the use of the Fourier transformation. A theoretical justification of the method for spaces of different dimensions has been obtained. Interferometric systems of the same rank with many antennas are reduced to a same canonical form with fixed number of virtual antennas placed at the origin of the coordinates and at unit distances on the coordinate axes. The ambiguity of the obtained solution is eliminated by using an additional antenna. A simulation of the proposed method of direct image reconstruction for two-dimensional space was carried out. Despite the low conditionality of the system for estimating the distance, when it increases, the angular characteristics are preserved. Therefore, the method is promising for restoring radio images of space radio sources.

Complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise for dynamic response reconstruction of spacecraft structures under random vibration

The dynamic responses of key regions are critical inputs for the structural life estimation of spacecraft. Response reconstruction methods are needed for structural locations where sensors are not placed due to resource limitations. In this paper, a reconstruction method based on complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) is proposed. CEEMDAN can eliminate the mode-mixing phenomenon of traditional empirical mode decomposition (EMD) during signal decompositions to improve the reconstruction accuracy. The proposed method is applied to the reconstruction of acceleration and strain responses at critical locations of a load-bearing structure under sinusoidal and random vibration loads. Numerical and experimental validation are carried out. The numerical results show that the reconstructions are almost unaffected by the selected white noise levels of CEEMDAN and the locations of measured and targeted points. The experimental results show that compared with traditional EMD, the reconstruction accuracy of CEEMDAN is improved by a maximum of 79.94% with almost no additional computational cost. The proposed reconstruction method shows efficiency and accuracy for a wide range of applications.

Strain/displacement field reconstruction and load identification of bracket arm structure of high-speed maglev train based on superposition conversion algorithm

The bracket arm structure, subjected to long-term vertical levitation and transversal guidance forces, is a key load-bearing component of high-speed maglev trains. It is crucial to monitor strain, displacement, and load in real time to evaluate structural health. However, it is almost impossible to measure directly at the service site of trains due to the intricacy of the bracket arm structure and the constrained installation area. Hence, it is an effective and feasible approach to reconstruct the strain/displacement field using a limited amount of strain information from FBG sensors. In order to reconstruct the strain/displacement field and identify the load on complicated structures, a load–strain/displacement superposition conversion algorithm is proposed in this paper. The modal coordinate and the mode-shape matrix are swapped out for the load weight and the load–strain/displacement matrix, respectively. Thus, it gets around the difficulty of choosing the mode order in traditional modal theory. In addition, the algorithm can achieve full-field reconstruction of both strain and displacement by measuring only part of the nodal strain response, reducing the redundancy of the traditional algorithm. Finally, numerical simulations and experimental tests were carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed method for field reconstruction and load identification.

Improving omnipolar electrogram reconstruction: an animal model study

Abstract Background Cardiac arrhythmias are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The characterization of cardiac tissue's electrophysiological substrate is crucial for the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. High-density (HD) electrode arrays, such as the Advisor™ HD Grid Mapping Catheter and Sensor Enabled™ (SE), are commonly used to examine cardiac tissue locally and create activation maps. However, the current method for reconstructing omnipolar EGMs, a novel technique claimed to be orientation-independent, has limitations. The enhancement of this reconstruction methodology has the potential to improve the accuracy and reliability of electrophysiological mapping. This, in turn, can have a positive impact on patients suffering from cardiac arrhythmias, ultimately leading to better clinical outcomes. Purpose We propose a novel reconstruction method to estimate omnipolar EGM that overcomes the angle dependence weakness of the current method to enhance the reconstruction of electrophysiological signals. Methodology Prior experiments were conducted on isolated rabbit hearts using a 128-electrode array with electrodes spaced 1mm apart over the ventricular epicardium. Four-electrode cliques were designed from these experiments, with different inter-electrode distances as depicted in Figure 1A, to reconstruct the current and novel omnipolar configurations. Metrics were designed to assess the quality of the electrogram signals, including the bipolar loop area and the ratio of the bipolar components of the omnipole (see fig. 2). The bipoles were calculated from unipolar electrograms, and the signal was corrected with a 45º offset in the cross. The propagation angle was then detected, and the local activation time (LAT) was estimated. Results In the bipole plots, it was observed that the morphology of the bipolar loop becomes distorted with an increase in the inter-electrode distance, becoming thinner for distances less than 2mm. There is a direct relation between the areas in the bipolar loop and the inter-electrode distance (see Figure 2A). Furthermore, the values of the area in the cross are always comparable to the best-performing triangular clique. For the ratio of bipoles, the relation is inversely related to distance (see Figure 2B). Similarly, the performance of the cross is comparable to the best-performing triangular omnipole. Conclusion This study highlights the importance of accurate reconstruction of omnipolar EGMs for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. To achieve precise reconstruction, inter-electrode distances smaller than 2mm are recommended. The proposed reconstruction method based on the cross configuration is more accurate and robust to wavefront propagation, provided that the recommended distance criterion is met. This study opens up new possibilities for the design of new devices and practices in the clinic.Figure 1Figure 2
