Elevation of the Wear Resistance of Low-Alloy Structural Steel by Plasma-Powder Surfacing with Alloys Based on Iron, Chromium, and Nickel

We study the chemical and structural inhomogeneities and the parameters of wear resistance of the coatings obtained by the arc-welding method. The coatings were obtained from PR-KhN80SSR3, PN-AN-34, and Kh17N8S6G powders based on nickel, cobalt, and iron, respectively, and from an experimental powder based on Ni and Fe. The tribological properties of iron-based alloys are better than for the cobalt- and nickel-based alloys. In the course of friction, the austenitic component of the coating undergoes plastic deformation as a result of which it covers the surface as a lubricant, which decreases the friction coefficient and wear.

Influence of Molybdenum on Structure and Properties of Iron-Based Alloys

A study of phase composition, texture and structure of electrolytic Fe-Mo deposits is presented. It was proven that molybdenum changes the parameters increasing the dispersiveness of the plating structure. It is also explored that electrolytic Fe-Mo deposits can be used as strengthening ones.

DETERMINING INFLUENCE OF ALLOYING ELEMENTS ON PROPERTIES OF ALLOYS BY ROBUST EXPERIMENT

The paper presents an approach to determine the influence of alloying elements on the properties of iron-based alloys by a robust numerical experiment. The study is based on a database of 90 alloys with relationship between the chemical composition and mechanical and plastic properties. The limit of yield strength (Re) and elongation (A) are assumed as optimizing parameters. The properties of the alloys used in the database are under heat-treated condition after low temperature hardening and tempering applied. In terms of the mission of any performance steels were identified nonlinear regression relationships. As a result, the proposed procedure shows how to specify the amount of alloying elements on iron alloys based on the Taguchi method. The originality of the solution lies in application of the Taguchi method for simultaneous multiple criteria within a task. Laser surface alloying: Mechanism of formation and improvement of surface properties

Improvement of the surface of materials to bring about desirable properties may be achieved by laser surface alloying. After a brief review of the mechanisms of formation of surface alloys by the addition of specific elements and laser melting, different examples are reported, namely: Improvement of mechanical surface properties of aluminum base alloys by the electrodeposition of nickel coatings followed by laser treatment. Improvement of the thermal fatigue lifetime of low carbon steels; a nickel coating is first obtained by plasma spraying.
