The paper aims to develop a new methodology based on integrated multi-attribute decision making approaches, i.e., analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and Vlse Kriterijumska Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) technique for finding the maintenance criticality of the system by ranking its failure causes. The ranking is framed by considering five criteria namely likelihood of failure occurrence, likelihood of non-detection, downtime length, standby part criticality and safety risk. In the proposed methodology, first the priority weight of each criterion is calculated by using AHP approach and then VIKOR method is applied for finding the ranking of failure causes in order to select the proper maintenance strategy. An actual case study of pulping system for a paper production industry is performed to select the maintenance strategy in order to demonstrate the use of the proposed methodology.
