Partners, meanwhile, had a positive attitude toward the activity through active participation in the training provided and also satisfaction. From the survey data provided by the service team, partners were identified as part of the campaign.Barriers encountered during the activity were due to the partner's lack of confidence and the influence of the partner's mother tongue.

The Novels of Elsgüer: Counter Narratives and Ecosystems of Corporeal and Virtual Displacement

The Novels of Elsgüeris a series of 5 transdisciplinary installations co-created by Colombian-Canadian artists Laura Acostaand Santiago Taverasince 2017. The artists create immersive and interactive ecosystems composed of different audio-visual technologies, sculptural and material elements, and various approaches to performance. Each expanded scenography is referred to as an episode and presents a different exploration of the relationship between body and space from a decolonial perspective. A Study of Selected Igbo Television Presenters’ Pronunciation of English Speech Sounds

The English language is used to solve the problem of language variation or problems emanating from language variation in Nigeria. Mass media plays a major role in conveying information to the general public. The conveyance of information is possible and easy when appropriate linguistic tools as well as the correct pronunciation of words are employed. However, there is always the implication of wrong pronunciation on the listeners whenever television presenters do not articulate words correctly. Some television presenters are faced with the problem of mother tongue interference which may lead to the incorrect articulation of English speech sounds. This is responsible for the phonological errors that are evident in the speeches of many television presenters, especially from the Igbo speech communities with significant implications on the educational performance of Nigerian youths who see them as stars and also imitate their phonological errors. The study, therefore, investigates the pronunciation of English speech sounds of selected Igbo television presenters. Data for the study were gathered from four (4) randomly selected television stations and one (1) purposively selected television station. These stations were selected because they are widely watched and some of them are award-winning television stations. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage frequency. The result of the study reveals that the presenters in this study substitute /t/ for // and /d/ for /ð/; /Ɔ/ and /Ɔ:/ for //; /Ɔ:/, /a/, or /e/ for /ɜ:/ and /i/, /a/ or /e/ for /ǝ/. The reason for this is the fact that the central Igbo consonantal inventory has no dental fricatives // and /ð/ and at the vowel level, it has no central vowels //, /ɜ:/ and /ǝ/. So, interference occurs in the pronunciation of these sounds. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the phonological aspect of the English language should be handled by specialists; Nigerians should be sensitized on the need for proficiency in oral English hence, it should be one of the criteria for selection of television presenters.

Penanganan Speech Delay pada Anak Usia Dini melalui Terapi Wicara

This study discusses the handling that can be done in overcoming speech delay in early childhood. The purpose of this study is to find out various strategies or methods that can be used in stimulating speech delay problems in children from an early age through speech therapy. This study used a qualitative approach with library research method where the subjects of this study reviewed several relevant articles and intended for children aged 4-6 years. The results of this study commonly used speech therapy is to train speaking with correct articulation and practice pronunciation of words slowly and repeatedly. This is very effective to do, because in this word repetition process the child will remember and lock every word that continues to be repeated. The authors recommend that future studies use a type of direct observational research into the field, so that previously found data can be accurately proven with facts in the field.

The Utilizing of Tongue Twister Media for English Speaking Activity of Management Students in School of Management

The ability of using English is important and is needed nowadays in many aspects. Everyone is supposed to be able to speak English for communication. The problem happens in non-English students who learn English for specific purpose. They do not feel confident to perform speaking due to they are very rare practicing English previously that causes some problems in pronunciation and mastery vocabulary. Therefore, this study is aimed to know the management students’ pronunciation of English words using tongue twister media and to probe the management students’ perception in speaking English activity. This research applies a qualitative approach with 24 Management major students from one class who mostly work and enroll online and offline English class. The instrument used are field note observation, questionnaires, and recorder. The findings show that most management students found speaking problems in pronouncing the sounds of /θ/, /ð/, /ʃ/ and /ai/. Although they were not confident in speaking English for the improper pronunciation, they were still trying to learn English well. They expressed that the utilize of tongue twister media in speaking activity is helpful, fun and challenging to pronounce and listen to the good pronunciations.

THE ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC BARRIERS FACED BY EFL LEARNERS IN ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILLS

The present study focuses upon linguistic barriers faced by the EFL learners in learning English speaking skills at High Schools level. A survey descriptive design is used to collect data from sample of one hundred and fifty students from five high schools through an adapted questionnaire. The data analysis reveals that students' language hurdles take shape of a lack of vocabulary, errors in the word pronunciation, and other grammatical structures. These impediments mostly manifest themselves because of not placing enough emphasis upon key components of speaking and learning, or on practicing those skills. This caused other hurdles with various root reasons that affected learners' ability to speak English. The study is delimited to focus on students at high schools of Laghman, Afghanistan. The results offered significant and valuable information about research issues. According to the study, to ensure that speaking abilities are adequately taught and practiced, learning and teaching strategies should be based upon the contemporary trends. These strategies can improve English speaking skills at high and higher secondary school level.

EXPLORING STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ABOUT USING YOUTUBE EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS IN LEARNING NEW VOCABULARY

Exploring Students' Perception About Using YouTube Educational Videos In Learning New Vocabulary, is a study to find students' perspectives in using educational videos on YouTube to learn new English vocabulary. The sampling method used in this quantitative research. Data collection was taken from the results of a questionnaire from 120 students from SMKN 11 Malang through the media Google Form. Researchers used google form to take a sample of qualified student questionnaires. The majority of them (94%) have watched YouTube Educational Videos and most of the students of SMKN 11 Malang said that YouTube Educational Videos were useful for their English learning media to learn students' vocabulary by means of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. This study was analyzed quantitatively based on the facts of students who succeeded in learning vocabulary with YouTube Educational Videos with excellence which would later be constructed in the form of descriptive analysis. The results of the research prove that vocabulary learning using YouTube educational videos has many benefits and positive impacts for SMKN 11 students. Students will use various strategies to learn vocabulary while watching YouTube educational videos; Students use words in the appropriate grammatical form; Students do the pronunciation of words that are easily recognizable; Students recognize vocabulary in spoken and written form; Students do spelling words correctly; to develop English vocabulary. Teachers can develop vocabulary teaching with more flexible time by using YouTube educational videos.

Identifying the Accuracy and Comprehensibility of Students’ English Word By Word Pronunciation at North Lombok Senior High School

Pronunciation is an important component of language learning that must be well mastered in order to support the development of students' competence in language skills, particularly speaking skills. This descriptive research aims to evaluate the accuracy and comprehensibility of English pronunciation among tenth-grade IPS students consisting of 30 students at SMAN 1 Bayan in North Lombok. Qualitative methods were employed, using student voice recordings as primary data and relevant documents as secondary data. The data analysis technique in this study uses the concept of qualitative data analysis developed by Miles and Huberman in (1994), including data reduction, data display and conclusions drawing. The results showed that while some students demonstrated excellent proficiency in English pronunciation, others faced significant challenges in accurately articulating vowel and consonant sounds. These findings highlight the importance of targeted interventions to support struggling students and improve the pronunciation skills of all students. The research questions are focused on the accuracy and comprehensibility of English pronunciation among students in North Lombok. Through our evaluation, we found that the level of accuracy in common words varied among students, with some struggling to pronounce even basic words accurately.

A Pilot Study: The Impact of Phonics Instruction Application on Phonemic Awareness within Reading and Vocabulary Abilities of Elementary School English Teaching

This study investigated whether phonemic awareness within vocabulary and reading abilities changed after phonics instruction. Pre-test, treatment of phonics instruction, and post-test were implemented to measure the impact of phonics instruction on English teaching in an elementary school. Fifty Chinese students who performed little English proficiency at the beginning of second grade participated in this study. This study, conducted as a pilot-study before a main one investigating two groups of experimental group and control group, had a quantitative experiment design for a group of fifty students exploring Pre-test and Post-test effects of two different conditions: phonemic awareness within vocabulary and reading abilities, respectively. SPSS 19.0 was employed in quantitative data analysis. Overall, it was proved in this pilot-study that the EFL learners who experienced phonics instruction class had more meaningful improvement and higher average scores on their vocabulary and reading abilities. From the test results and the interviews with the students and their parents, it is indicated that the EFL learners’ phonemic awareness within reading and vocabulary abilities has been increased. At pre-test, no students performed well in 1) reading short passages as a test of authentic word pronunciation and phonemic awareness in distinguishing words within monograms and 2) oral English test examining English conversation and also vocabulary recognition. At post-test, the average scores of the students with phonics instruction class were improved meaningfully by around 10% in the two different individual conditions that the ones in the Pre-test. Implications in this study are that phonics instruction would be needed for increasing phonemic awareness as well as the significance of phonics instruction in English language teaching.

The Use of Computer Assisted Approach in Teaching English Pronunciation in Urban Kigali Secondary Schools, Rwanda

This study is about the use of computer assisted approach in teaching English pronunciation in the Urban Secondary Schools in Kigali, Rwanda, using the mixed research method through a self-administered questionnaire and an interview guide. Quantitative data was analyzed through descriptive statistics while qualitative data was analyzed through the thematic approach. Teachers considered the computer assisted approach useful due to its ability to provide proper pronunciation, to enable students find appropriate word sounds and to correct pronunciation errors and mistakes. The use of the approach enhanced proper pronunciation by boosting the number of words pronounced correctly. The study recommends that teachers should use the approach not only for class preparation but also in the actual classroom teaching and learning so as to improve the pronunciation of words. School managers are called upon to provide Computer Assisted Approach facilities so that both teachers and learners may have access to and actually use the same to enhance accuracy in words pronunciation.

The main purpose of this research is to know whether Three-Step Interview Technique effective towards students’ Speaking Ability at eleventh grade of MA Darul A’mal Metro. The population of the research was the students on the eleventh grade in MA Darul A’mal Metro. The sampling technique was random sampling technique. The researcherschose social and science class as the sampling. Based on the result of data analysis, the mean score of post-test in experimental class was13.26 and the mean score of post-test in control class was 12.00. It showed that the students’ post- test score in experimental class was higher than students’ post-test score in control class. The result can be seen from sig. (2-tailed) of the equal variance assumed in the independent sample test table which the sig. (2-tailed) is 0.043. It is lower than α = 0.05 and it means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It showed that there was significant influence of using three-step interview towards students’ speaking ability at the first semester of the eleventh grade of MA Darul A’mal. Factors Responsible for Wrong Pronunciation of English Words by Students at Undergraduate Level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan

One of the many challenges which ESL/EFL learners face is the issue of incorrect pronunciation of English words. This issue is more serious in ESL contexts like Pakistan where learners get limited or no exposure to authentic language use. This paper attempts to explore the factors contributing to incorrect pronunciation of English words by ESL learners at undergraduate level in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. To this end, a questionnaire was distributed among 72 BS English students of three different colleges. The descriptive analysis of the data highlighted eight factors which appeared to cause incorrect pronunciation by students. These included learners’ weakness in phonetics and phonology, Teacher's wrong pronunciation, first language interference, words related to military discourse, poor oral fluency and inaccessibility to authentic language use. The study recommends learners should improve pronunciation of English words through listening to native speakers of English language, watch YouTube videos and English movies and should own and consult a standardized phonetic dictionary.

3D-printing-assisted flexible pressure sensor with a concentric circle pattern and high sensitivity for health monitoring

In this study, a flexible pressure sensor is fabricated using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with a concentric circle pattern (CCP) obtained through a fused deposition modeling (FDM)-type three-dimensional (3D) printer and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) as the active layer. Through layer-by-layer additive manufacturing, the CCP surface is generated from a thin cone model with a rough surface by the FDM-type 3D printer. A novel compression method is employed to convert the cone shape into a planar microstructure above the glass transition temperature of a polylactic acid (PLA) filament. To endow the CCP surface with conductivity, PDMS is used to replicate the compressed PLA, and PEDOT:PSS is coated by drop-casting. The size of the CCP is controlled by changing the printing layer height (PLH), which is one of the 3D printing parameters. The sensitivity increases as the PLH increases, and the pressure sensor with a 0.16 mm PLH exhibits outstanding sensitivity (160 kPa−1), corresponding to a linear pressure range of 0–0.577 kPa with a good linearity of R2 = 0.978, compared to other PLHs. This pressure sensor exhibits stable and repeatable operation under various pressures and durability under 6.56 kPa for 4000 cycles. Finally, monitoring of various health signals such as those for the wrist pulse, swallowing, and pronunciation of words is demonstrated as an application. These results support the simple fabrication of a highly sensitive, flexible pressure sensor for human health monitoring.

A real-time voice cloning system with multiple algorithms for speech quality improvement.

With the development of computer technology, speech synthesis techniques are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Speech cloning can be performed as a subtask of speech synthesis technology by using deep learning techniques to extract acoustic information from human voices and combine it with text to output a natural human voice. However, traditional speech cloning technology still has certain limitations; excessively large text inputs cannot be adequately processed, and the synthesized audio may include noise artifacts like breaks and unclear phrases. In this study, we add a text determination module to a synthesizer module to process words the model has not included. The original model uses fuzzy pronunciation for such words, which is not only meaningless but also affects the entire sentence. Thus, we improve the model by splitting the letters and pronouncing them separately. Finally, we also improved the preprocessing and waveform conversion modules of the synthesizer. We replace the pre-net module of the synthesizer and use an upgraded noise reduction algorithm combined with the SV2TTS framework to achieve a system with superior speech synthesis performance. Here, we focus on improving the performance of the synthesizer module to achieve higher-quality speech synthesis audio output.

THE FORMATION OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS BY INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN THE PROCESS OF UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE LEARNING

Abstract. The article presents an algorithm for learning the Ukrainian language by internally displaced persons, which consists of introductory, main and final parts. The methodology of each structural stage of training by the teacher is represented in detail. The types of tasks for the rapid and effective formation of communication skills by internally displaced persons have been developed and analyzed, in particular, a set of exercises aimed at learning vocabulary, the correct pronunciation of Ukrainian words and their correct emphasis, the ability to build monologue and dialogic statements, the development of the ability to communicate with an unknown person, memorization phrases, sentences and questions most often used in everyday life, construction of grammatically correct constructions. The proposed system of tasks will contribute to mastering the skills and abilities to communicate in oral and written form in accordance with the goals and social norms of speech behavior in typical areas and situations. The scientific intelligence provides a number of tips for independent mastery of the Ukrainian language, such as fifteen-minute daily reading, listening to audiobooks, setting the Ukrainian language as the default language in your own gadgets, using the Ukrainian language when shopping on the Internet. It was recommended the Internet portals to improve language culture and the richness of one’s own vocabulary. Taking into account the different methods and forms of work, the following tasks were singled out, with the help of which it was possible to interest internally displaced persons, create comfortable learning conditions and ensure the active participation of each participant in the class. The materials described in the article are intended for teachers who work with internally displaced persons, for people who want to improve and increase their level of Ukrainian linguistic and communicative competence. The task was created on the basis of four main types of speech activity: listening, speaking, reading, writing.

Does accentual variation in the pronunciation of French words influence their recognition? It depends on the ear of presentation

This repetition priming study examined how word accentual variation in French is represented and processed during spoken word recognition. Mismatched primes in the accentual pattern were less effective than matched primes in facilitating target word recognition when the targets were presented in the left ear but not in the right ear. This indicates that in French, the accentual pattern of words influences their recognition when processing is constrained in the right hemisphere. This study pleads in favor of two memory systems, the one retaining words in an abstract format and the other retaining words in their various forms.

Youtube is a video service provider platform that is most often used by the public as a medium of entertainment, including early childhood. This study aims to analyse the effect of Youtube viewing habits on children's vocabulary mastery. This research was conducted using a qualitative research approach. The data collection techniques used include observation, interviews and documentation. Research data sources were obtained from group A students as the main focus, student guardians and class teachers as supporting data sources. The results of observations taken in the form of recapitulation of children's vocabulary data in accordance with vocabulary acquisition indicators are analysed descriptively. During the observation, it was seen that children were able to pronounce some standard and formal words that had not even been taught at school. The habit of watching Youtube with genres that are not suitable for children will have a negative impact on the pronunciation of words that are not good, such as impolite words or even dirty words. In this study, it was found that the habit of watching Youtube has an effect on the mastery of vocabulary in early childhood, both positive effects, namely children have a lot of new vocabulary that has a good language structure and diction selection, and negative effects, namely children bring up words that are less polite or not good. The type of Youtube viewing, supervision and guidance from parents affect the mastery of vocabulary in early childhood

Which phonological and lexical factors best influence whether a word is produced and pronounced well?

This study examines lexical and phonological factors that influence word production and pronunciation. Specifically, we investigate whether phonological production (measured by percent consonants correct) contributes to word production and pronunciation over and above the properties of the target words (e.g., word frequency, neighborhood density, and phonetic complexity). Forty French-speaking monolingual and bilingual children, aged 1;11 to 3;1, participated in a spontaneous language sample and were administered a naming and a nonword repetition task. Their parents filled out the MacArthur Communicative Developmental Inventory (MCDI) and rated their children's pronunciation on an experimental version of the MCDI. Statistical models indicated that word frequency and the phonetic complexity of the target words influenced whether a word was produced. These factors along with neighborhood density and the children's production capacities influenced whether a word was pronounced poorly or well. Findings indicate that parents can provide reliable information on the word pronunciation of their children.
