Vascular hamartoma in horse limbs: presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of two case studies.

Vascular hamartoma is an abnormal development of endothelial tissue that rarely affects horses. Histopathological examination remains the gold standard for definitive diagnosis, yet the presence of abnormal vascular structures must be carefully differentiated from other vascular anomalies and neoplasms. This report describes two cases of vascular proliferation affecting the skin on the lateral side over the left tarsus and the dorsolateral region over the fetlock joint of two fillies. The clinical history, presentation, and radiographic and sonographic findings in both patients suggested a neoplasm of unknown origin. Surgical excision of the mass was successfully performed in both patients. In one patient, a second surgery was performed six months after the first surgery because of the recurrence of the mass. Histopathological examination revealed a disorganized proliferation of well-differentiated, tortuous, and varied-sized blood vessels hemmed in myxoid tissue with abundant fibrocollagenous bands. Immunohistochemical examination of the endothelium markers factor VIII and ERG revealed positive staining of the mass samples in both cases, confirming their vascular origin. The combination of these markers was effective, providing a reliable option for differentiating vascular proliferation in horses. To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the first report applying the ERG endothelial marker to horse vascular malformations.

Poison Turned Panacea: Arsenic Trioxide Loaded Hydrogel for Inhibiting Scar Formation in Wound Healing.

Without intervention, the natural wound healing process can often result in scarring, which can have detrimental effects on both the physical and mental well-being of patients. Therefore, it is crucial to develop biomaterials that can promote healing without scarring. Regulating the Yes-associated protein-1/PDZ-binding motif (YAP/TAZ) signaling pathway is possible to reduce excessive fibrosis of fibroblasts and proliferation of vascular endothelial cells, ultimately impacting scar formation. Arsenic trioxide (ATO), an ancient drug with medicinal and toxic properties, has shown promise in regulating this pathway. An ATO-loaded hydrogel dressing (ATO@CS/SA) was created to facilitate scarless wound healing, utilizing chitosan (CS) and sodium alginate (SA) to prevent direct contact of ATO with the wound tissue and minimize potential side effects. In vitro studies demonstrated that low concentrations of ATO did not impact cell viability and even promoted proliferation and migration. Co-culturing the hydrogel with fibroblasts and vascular endothelial cells led to decreased expression levels of YAP and TAZ. Animal studies over a 90-day period revealed significant inhibition of scar formation with this system. Histological experiments further confirmed that the decreased expression of YAP and TAZ was responsible for this outcome. In conclusion, when administered at the appropriate dose, ATO can be repurposed from a traditional poison to a therapeutic agent, effectively suppressing excessive cell fibrosis and blood vessel proliferation and offering a novel approach to scar-free treatment.

Whole Abdominopelvic Radiotherapy (WAPRT) for a Patient with Refractory Peritoneal Angiomatosis: A Case Report

Angiomatosis is a rare, benign condition characterized by the widespread proliferation of blood vessels with accompanying mature adipose tissue, affecting multiple tissue types or compartments. Although it is a histologically benign disease, it can cause significant morbidity due to its extensive lesions and the high recurrence rate associated with surgical removal. Given the limited clinical experience, no established consensus for the optimal treatment approach exists. We report a case of a 60-year-old patient who was diagnosed with diffuse peritoneal angiomatosis following recurrent symptoms of abdominal pain. Despite receiving various pharmacological treatments including methylprednisolone, propranolol, thalidomide and sirolimus, the patient repeatedly developed a hemoperitoneum and infectious complications. The patient’s persistent symptoms and frequent hospitalizations prompted the use of whole abdominopelvic radiotherapy (WAPRT). This treatment resulted in significant symptomatic relief and reduction in angiomatosis. This case suggests that radiotherapy may be a viable palliative treatment for severe angiomatosis when other treatments fail.

Characteristics of the tumor microenvironment and therapeutic progress in malignant pleural effusion

Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) can be secondary to various advanced malignant tumors. Although systemic anti tumor therapy may be effective in primary tumors, it cannot reduce the accumulation of MPE in proportion of the patients. The interaction of tumor cells, immune cells, and mesenchymal cells, as well as the abnormal proliferation of tumor-associated blood vessels, together create an immunosuppressive microenvironment for MPE, which promotes the abnormal proliferation of tumor cells and the accumulation of MPE. With the in-depth study of the tumor microenvironment, the application of local systemic anti-tumor therapy with local intrathoracic application of immune checkpoint inhibitors, immune cells, cytokines, and gene-mediated cytotoxic immunotherapy are able to alleviate the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and inhibit the accumulation of MPE. This article aimed to describe the tumor microenvironment in MPE and provide clues for identifying novel therapeutic targets.

Vivo application of a portable plasma generator in infected wound healing

AbstractIn this study, a portable plasma generator produced large‐area air plasma for treating infected wounds in BALB/c mice. Different plasma treatment times (30 s, 1 min, 3 min, and 4.5 min) were applied daily until the wounds healed completely. Results showed reduced inflammation and increased vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in tissues treated for 1 and 3 min, promoting blood vessel proliferation and collagen fiber synthesis. However, treatment for 30 s and 4.5 min worsened inflammation and decreased VEGF expression. Overall, a 1‐min treatment was the most effective in promoting wound healing. Cold plasma shows promise for healing infected wounds, with treatment duration being a crucial factor.

Hemangioma Neck: Clinical Overview and Management

Hemangiomas are benign vascular tumors that arise due to the proliferation of blood vessels. They can occur anywhere in the body but rarely occur in the neck. They are broadly classified into capillary and cavernous hemangioma. Here, we present a case of a 53-year-old female who presented to our outpatient department with swelling on the right side of the neck for 3 years with a recent increase in size associated with tingling, numbness, and pain in the right shoulder radiating to the arms and fingers for 6 months. Imaging studies suggested the diagnosis of right cervical hemangioma. After two failed sclerotherapy attempts, surgical excision of the mass was performed. Histopathology was suggestive of venous hemangioma.

Progress in the study of association between hematological indicators and retinopathy of prematurity (Review).

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a retinopathy caused by abnormal proliferation of blood vessels in premature infants. It can lead to retinal detachment and, in severe cases, blindness, rendering ROP a critical condition. Advances in neonatal medicine have improved survival rates of low birth weight and low gestational age infants. However, this progress has also led to a rise in incidence of ROP. Currently, premature birth, low birth weight and high postpartum oxygen levels are independent risk factors for ROP. Other factors include mode of delivery, multiple births, anemia, blood transfusion, maternal pregnancy factors, neonatal bronchopulmonary dysplasia, use of surfactants, arterial ductus arteriosus and necrotizing enterocolitis. Laboratory indicators in premature infants such as platelet count, levels of blood glucose, inflammatory cells, lipid and hemoglobin and blood transfusion may also be associated with ROP. However, the etiology and pathogenesis of ROP are not fully understood. A number of factors may influence the onset and progression of ROP, including decreased platelet counts, decreased hemoglobin levels, increased white blood cell counts, increased blood glucose levels, and disorders of lipid metabolism. The present study reviewed the effects of platelet count, hemoglobin, blood glucose, inflammatory cells and factors, blood lipids, and plasma metabolic pathways on ROP.

A case of pseudo-Kaposi sarcoma with chronic limb-threatening ischemia

BackgroundPseudo-Kaposi sarcoma (PKS) is a rare vascular proliferative disease, caused by arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and chronic venous insufficiency. The lesions are characterized by purple or reddish-brownish papules, plaques, and nodules. Although benign, it is clinically similar to Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), a malignant disease, and must be differentiated by histopathological examination. We report a rare case of PKS with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI).Case presentationAn 83-year-old man with diabetes mellitus (DM) presented to a local dermatology department with a complaint of a right second toe ulcer and was, thereby, referred to our department due to arterial bleeding during skin biopsy to exclude malignant diseases. Although the pulsation of dorsalis pedis artery of the affected limb was palpable, the skin perfusion pressure was only 20 and 30 mmHg on the dorsum and planter surface, respectively, indicating severe ischemia of toe and forefoot. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed an AVM around the right second metatarsophalangeal joint and occlusion of the right dorsalis pedis artery in the middle, indicating CLTI in the background. Pathological findings of the skin biopsy found capillary blood vessel proliferation, hemosiderin deposition, and extravascular red blood cell leakage in the dermal layer, which could be found in KS. However, CD34 was normally stained in the vascular endothelium, and human herpesvirus-8 staining was negative, resulting in the pathological diagnosis of PKS, a proliferative vascular lesion associated with AVM. The ulcer was spontaneously epithelialized, but 2 years later the ulcer recurred and infection developed, necessitating treatment for abnormal blood flow. Transarterial embolization using N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate for the AVM controlled abnormal perfusion once; however, the procedure exacerbated perfusion of the toe, resulting in foot ulcer progression. Forefoot amputation with surgical excision of AVM was performed, and thereby, wound healing was achieved.ConclusionThis is a rare case of PKS with CLTI complicated with AVM. As there is currently no established consensus on the treatment of PKS, the approach to treatment strategy should be tailored to the specific condition of each patient.

Role of MMP-9 and NF-κB in Diabetic Retinopathy: Progression and Potential Role of Bioflavonoids in the Mitigation of Diabetic Retinopathy.

"Diabetes mellitus" is a chronic metabolic disorder manifested by elevated blood glucose levels, primarily due to insufficient insulin production or resistance to insulin. Long-term diabetes results in persistent complications like retinopathy, cardiomyopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy, causing significant health risks. The most alarming microvascular consequence allied with diabetes is "diabetic retinopathy," distinguished by the proliferation of anomalous blood vessels in the eye, mainly in the retina, resulting in visual impairment, diabetic macular edema, and retinal detachment if left untreated. According to estimates, 27.0% of people with diabetes worldwide have retinopathy, which leads to 0.4 million blindness cases. It is believed that mitochondrial damage and the production of inflammatory mediators are the early indicators of diabetic retinopathy before any histological changes occur in the retina. Moreover, it is evident that augmented oxidative stress in the retina further initiates the NF-κB/MMP-9 downstream signaling pathway. Interestingly, these downstream regulators, Nuclear Factor Kappa B [NF- kB] and matrix metalloproteinases 9 [MMP-9], have been recognized as important regulators of the inception and advancement of diabetic retinopathy. This diabetes and oxidative stress-induced MMP-9 are believed to regulate various cellular functions, including angiogenesis and apoptosis, causing blood-retinal barrier breakdown and tight junction protein degradation that further leads to diabetic retinopathy. Thus, there is an emergency need for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Emerging treatment options include anti-VEGF, laser treatment, and eye surgery, but these have certain limitations. This comprehensive review explores the mechanisms of MMP-9 and NF-kB involvement in diabetic retinopathy and bioflavonoids' therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action in inhibiting MMP-9 activity and suppressing NF-kB-mediated inflammation. Clinical evidence supporting the use of bioflavonoids in mitigating diabetic complications and future perspectives are also examined.

The Biological Role of Platelet Derivatives in Regenerative Aesthetics.

Bioproducts derived from platelets have been extensively used across various medical fields, with a recent notable surge in their application in dermatology and aesthetic procedures. These products, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), play crucial roles in inducing blood vessel proliferation through growth factors derived from peripheral blood. PRP and PRF, in particular, facilitate fibrin polymerization, creating a robust structure that serves as a reservoir for numerous growth factors. These factors contribute to tissue regeneration by promoting cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration and collagen/elastin production. Aesthetic medicine harnesses these effects for diverse purposes, including hair restoration, scar treatment, striae management, and wound healing. Furthermore, these biological products can act as adjuvants with other treatment modalities, such as laser therapy, radiofrequency, and microneedling. This review synthesizes the existing evidence, offering insights into the applications and benefits of biological products in aesthetic medicine.

Potency of the Combination of Chitosan and Hydroxyapatite on Angiogenesis and Fibroblast Cell Proliferation in Direct Pulp Capping of Rattus norvegicus.

The aim of this research was to analyze expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), blood vessels, and fibroblast cell proliferation in direct pulp capping treatment of Rattus norvegicus using a combination of chitosan and hydroxyapatite paste. The samples were male R. norvegicus strains of Wistar rats, weighing 200 to 250 g and aged between 8 and 16 weeks. The occlusal surface of the molars of R. norvegicus was prepared with class I cavity and then perforated with the tip of an explorer. Sixty male R. Norvegicus rats were divided into the following: control group (KA) in which the cavity was filled with glass ionomer cement; control group (KB), in which the cavity was filled with Ca(OH)2; PA group, in which the cavity was filled with chitosan (CH); PB group, in which the cavity was filled with hydroxyapatite (HA); and PC group, in which the cavity was filled with chitosan and hydroxyapatite (CH-HA). Each group was divided into 3-, 7-, and 14-day observation groups. The mandibular bone of the molar was cut and histopathological examination was performed to analyze the blood vessels and fibroblast cell proliferation. Immunohistochemistry examination was done to examine the expression of VEGF. The data variation was analyzed with One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test and continued with multiple comparison Least Significant (LSD) test to determine the different pairs of group. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a significant increase in the expression of VEGF, blood vessels, and fibroblast cell proliferations (p ≤ 0.05;), especially in the PC group compared to the other four groups. The least significant test (LSD) test showed significant differences between the groups on the expression of VEGF, blood vessels, and fibroblast cell proliferations. The combination of chitosan and hydroxyapatite could promote healing of direct pulp capping treatment by increasing the expression of VEGF, blood vessel, and fibroblast cell proliferation.

The spectrum of microvascular patterns in adult diffuse glioma and their correlation with tumor grade.

Primary brain tumors constitute the leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Among them, adult diffuse gliomas are the most common type, affecting the cerebral hemispheres and displaying a diffuse infiltrative pattern of growth in the surrounding neuropil that accounts for about 80% of all primary intracranial tumors. The hallmark feature of gliomas is blood vessel proliferation, which plays an important role in tumor growth, tumor biological behavior, and disease outcome. High-grade gliomas exhibit increased vascularity, the worst prognosis, and lower survival rates. Several angiogenic receptors and factors are upregulated in glioblastomas and stimulate angiogenesis signaling pathways by means of activating oncogenes and/or down-regulating tumor-suppressor genes. Existing literature has emphasized that different microvascular patterns (MVPs) are displayed in different subtypes of adult diffuse gliomas. We examined the distribution and biological characteristics of different MVPs in 50 patients with adult diffuse gliomas. Haematoxylin and eosin staining results, along with periodic acid-Schiff and CD34 dual-stained sections, were examined to assess the vascular patterns and correlate with different grades of diffuse glioma. The present observational study on adult diffuse glioma evaluated tumor grade and MVPs. Microvascular sprouting was the most common pattern, while a bizarre pattern (type 2) was associated with the presence of a high-grade glioma. Vascular mimicry was observed in 6% of cases, all of which were grade 4 gliomas. This study supplements the role of neo-angiogenesis and aberrant vasculature patterns in the grading and progression of adult diffuse gliomas, which can be future targets for planning treatment strategies.

Anterior Orbitotomy with Transcutaneous Approach as Management of Orbital Cavernous Hemangioma

Introduction : Orbital cavernous hemangioma is the most common benign orbital lesion in adults. Management of cavernous hemangioma depends on the presented symptoms. Visual impairment is indication of surgical management. Anterior orbitotomy is the preferred surgical technique for cavernous hemangioma.
 Case Illustration : A 34-years-old male came with chief complaint of mass in the inferior palpebra left eye (LE) accompanied with double vision for three years. Visual acuity of the right eye (RE) was 1.0 and LE was 0.8. Ophthalmology examination revealed hypertropia, non-axial proptosis, mass lesion sized 4 x2 cm in the left inferior palpebra and RAPD grade I in the LE (Figure 1). Funduscopy examination in both eyes was within normal limit. CT-Scan examination showed intraconal and extraconal inhomogen mass lobulated in the left inferomedial which obliterate inferior and medial rectus muscle (Figure 2). Patient was diagnosed with proptosis and compressive optic neuropathy in LE caused by suspected orbital cavernous hemangioma. Anterior orbitotomy with transcutaneous approach was done (Figure 3). Histopathological examination showed proliferation of large blood vessels lined with endothelial cells as characteristic of cavernous hemangioma (Figure 4). There was improvement of visual acuity and no RAPD after surgery (Figure 5).
 Discussion : Orbital cavernous hemangioma can compress optic nerve which will cause visual disturbances. Anterior orbitotomy with transcutaneous approach provides wider space when surgeon take out hemangioma completely. It will reduce bleeding caused by truncated mass of hemangioma and increase successful rate of surgery.
 Conclusion : Anterior orbitotomy with transcutaneous approach can correct globe displacement and visual disturbances caused by orbital cavernous hemangioma.

Kimura’s disease: a case report

BackgroundKimura’s disease is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology that is seen in people of Asian descent. It is characterized by head and neck subcutaneous nodules along with lymphadenopathy, which is usually solitary but can be generalized. It is diagnosed histopathologically by the proliferation of blood vessels and germinal centers in lymphoid follicles, along with variable degrees of fibrosis and extensive eosinophil infiltration. Its localized form is treated with surgical excision, while generalized lesions and those that do not respond to surgical excision can be managed with steroids or radiotherapy.CaseIn this report, we present the first case of Kimura’s disease in the Ethiopian literature in a 40-year-old Ethiopian man that presented with generalized pruritic subcutaneous nodules and lymphadenopathy, which were effectively managed with a tapering course of prednisolone, and a relapse that showed good sustained response with slow steroid taper.ConclusionWe have demonstrated that, even though it is very rare in the African continent, Kimura’s disease is to be considered as a differential diagnosis for patients that present with subcutaneous nodules and lymphadenopathy. We also have demonstrated that relapses can be effectively managed with reinitiation of the same dose of steroids but with a very slow taper.

Parameatal Urethral Cyst in a 20-Year-Old Male Patient: A Case Report

The parameatal urethral cyst is a rare anomaly and appears as a small blister in proximity to the urethral meatus. These cysts may result from occlusion of paraurethral ducts or, in other cases, from faulty preputial separation from the glans along the coronal sulcus. A 20-year-old male patient came to our outpatient clinic at dr. M. Soewandhie General Hospital Surabaya with a cystic lesion on the right side of the external urethral meatus. The patient only found out about his situation one year ago, and he did not experience any complaints except a branched urination. On physical examination, an 8 mm cystic lesion was found on the right side of the external urethral meatus. The patient consented to complete surgical excision of the cyst. The procedure was performed under regional anesthesia. The cyst was completely resected from the surrounding tissues. One month after surgery, there is no post-operative pain and good urine flow, and the patient is also satisfied with the post-operative condition. Histologic examination shows pieces of tissue in the form of polypoid lined with squamous epithelium underneath, stroma of fibrous tissue with proliferation of blood vessels and some inflammatory cells of lymphocytes in between. There are no signs of malignancy. Parameatal urethral cyst is an abnormal and rare case, usually asymptomatic. However, sometimes dysuria, urinary retention, branching urine, and cosmetic problems are the reasons that cause patients to seek a doctor's help. It can be diagnosed just on physical examination and can be cured by complete excision.

Efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin for rosacea with positive impact on quality of life and self-esteem.

Rosacea is a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disease with a multifactorial pathophysiology. It compromises several skin structures, including the proliferation and dilation of dermal blood vessels, primarily in the central areas of the face, accompanied by significant psychosocial impairment, leading to reduced quality of life (QoL) and self-esteem. There are consensus guidelines for its treatment, but few options for the erythema. This study hypothesizes that treating rosacea skin lesions with botulinum toxin (BTX) could improve signs and symptoms, resulting in enhanced QoL and self-esteem. This interventional, open, uncontrolled, and prospective study, conducted at a single center, included 33 individuals diagnosed with rosacea, treated with standard therapeutic options according to the rosacea subtype plus superficial injections of BTX, and followed up for 90 days. Botulinum toxin injections were applied on Days 1 and 14. Clinical features and side effects were assessed at each visit; QoL, self-esteem, and medication adherence questionnaires were administered on Days 1 and 90. Treatment with BTX yielded improvement in the clinical signs of rosacea, registered by the investigators, and reported by 94% of the participants. Improved QoL scores (P < 0.05) and a notable increase in self-esteem scores (P < 0.001) were demonstrated. Rare adverse events were observed. The utilization of BTX superficial injections in patients with rosacea was safe and effective, improving the clinical appearance of the lesions. Despite some limitations, to our knowledge, this is the first study that showed the positive impact of this treatment modality on both QoL and self-esteem.

Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia in the eyelid: A case series and literature review

Abstract: Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) is a rare vascular disorder characterized by the proliferation of blood vessels and lymphoid tissue. While it can occur in various regions of the body, ALHE presenting in the eyelid is relatively uncommon, leading to diagnostic and management challenges. In this case series from South India, we present three unique cases of ALHE specifically affecting the eyelids. Each case illustrates different clinical manifestations, diagnostic workups, and treatment approaches. Tissue biopsies typically reveal nodules comprising immature and mature vascular structures, including capillaries, arterioles, and venules, which are lined by plump endothelial cells with an epithelioid appearance. The surrounding stroma contains a dense infiltrate of inflammatory cells, predominantly eosinophils, histiocytes, lymphocytes, and mast cells. Increased awareness of ALHE in the eyelid will aid ophthalmologists in early recognition, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate management, resulting in improved patient outcomes.

Lobular hemangioma of the vestibular larynx

Lobular capillary hemangioma, or pyogenic granuloma (PG), is a benign vascular tumor that occurs on the skin and mucous membrane in the upper digestive and respiratory tracts in the form of inflammatory hyperplasia, most often in the mouth or nose. Predisposing factors for tumor development include previous trauma, hormonal imbalance, infections, drug side effects, and genetic abnormalities associated with angiogenesis and vascular damage. Since the clinical and endoscopic manifestations of PG are diverse and nonspecific, the results of histological examination are decisive in the diagnosis of this pathology. The literature presents a limited amount of data on the clinic and treatment of tracheal PG and provides isolated publications on the laryngeal localization of PG in adults. In this article, we report on our own clinical observation of PG in the vestibular larynx in a 60-year-old man who complained of a foreign body sensation in the throat, snoring and sleep apnea. Laryngostroboscopy and contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a 1.5×1.8 cm formation in the vestibular region, floating during breathing and obstructing the entrance to the larynx. After flexible tracheobronchoscopy with tracheal intubation, the patient underwent direct supporting microlaryngoscopy with the removal of the neoplasm, for which a radio wave electrode was used. The results of histological examination showed neoplastic proliferation of small blood vessels growing in a lobular architecture, with edematous stroma and pronounced inflammatory infiltration, which corresponds to the diagnosis of lobular capillary laryngeal hemangioma.

3D printing of Rg3-loaded hydrogel scaffolds: anti-inflammatory and scar-formation related collagen inhibitory effects for scar-free wound healing.

During the process of wound healing, the stimulation of inflammatory factors often leads to abnormal proliferation of blood vessels and collagen, ultimately resulting in scar formation. To address this challenge, we fabricate a novel dermal extracellular matrix (DECM) hydrogel scaffold loaded with ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) using 3D printing technology. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are introduced into the system to encase the Rg3 to control its release rate and enhance its bioavailability. We systematically evaluate the biological, physicochemical, and wound healing properties of this scaffold. In vitro studies demonstrate that the hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility and solid-like rheological properties, ensuring its successful printing. In vivo studies reveal that the composite hydrogel scaffolds effectively accelerate wound healing and achieve scar-free wound healing within three weeks. Histological and immunohistochemical (IHC) analyses show that the composite hydrogel scaffolds reduce the inflammatory response and inhibit excessive collagen accumulation. These combined effects underscore the potential of our approach in effectively inhibiting scar formation.

Dual network composite hydrogels with robust antibacterial and antifouling capabilities for efficient wound healing.

Wound dressings play a critical role in the wound healing process; however, conventional dressings often address singular functions, lacking versatility in meeting diverse wound healing requirements. Herein, dual-network, multifunctional hydrogels (PSA/CS-GA) have been designed and synthesized through a one-pot approach. The in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate that the optimized hydrogels have exceptional antifouling properties, potent antibacterial effects and rapid hemostatic capabilities. Notably, in a full-thickness rat wound model, the hydrogel group displays a remarkable wound healing rate exceeding 95% on day 10, surpassing both the control group and the commercial 3M group. Furthermore, the hydrogels exert an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing inflammatory factors interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), enhance the release of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to promote blood vessel proliferation, and augment collagen deposition in the wound, thus effectively accelerating wound healing in vivo. These innovative hydrogels present a novel and highly effective approach to wound healing.
