Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of project teaching method combined with high-fidelity human patient simulation in nursing pharmacology and pathophysiology comprehensive experiment and investigate students' acceptance of this new teaching method, to cultivate students' nursing thinking and the ability to use the knowledge in the clinical treatment of patients with shock. Methods Following by the theory of project teaching, embraced high-fidelity human patient simulation to create clinical scene of hemorrhagic shock patients, used comprehensive pharmacology, pathology, physiology and related nursing knowledge of first aid to give patient treatment, and observed the ability of students' knowledge of various disciplines using. At the same time, used the the questionnaire to investigate the students' acceptance of this way of teaching mode and evaluated its effectiveness. Results 91.6% (1 119/1 222) students embraced this way of teaching. The higher vocational nursing specialty group of 2012 grades and the secondary technical nursing specialty group of 2012 grade agreed with this teaching mode, which was both higher than the higher vocational nursing specialty group of 2013 grade :93.4%(512/548), 94.3%(267/283) vs. 86.9%(340/391), and the results were significantly different,χ2=17.409, P < 0.01. In the teaching method investigation, the students generally agreed that it could improve the ability of clinical observation (97.1%,1 186/1 222) and it adapted to clinical teaching (95.3%,1 164/1 222). The evaluation of the effect of the project reached a excellent and good rate of 100%, the excellent ratio accounted for 60%. The other items of questionnaires were also accepted by students which all account for over 85%. Conclusions Application of project teaching method combined with high-fidelity human patient simulation in nursing pharmacology and pathophysiology comprehensive experiment makes innovation of the experimental teaching, improves student's multidisciplinary using ability, and plays a critical role in promoting on student's comprehensive practical capability.
