This paper presents a comprehensive review of sustainable project management practices within the modern LNG industry, aiming to analyze the strategies, challenges, and opportunities associated with sustainable development in LNG initiatives. The literature review encompasses an examination of sustainable project management principles, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability in LNG projects. Case studies from various LNG initiatives worldwide are analyzed to identify best practices and frameworks for integrating sustainability into project management methodologies. These studies highlight innovative approaches such as carbon footprint reduction, community engagement programs, and economic diversification strategies, demonstrating the multifaceted nature of sustainable project management in the LNG sector. Methodologically, this review adopts a systematic approach, utilizing established criteria for selecting and analyzing relevant literature and case studies. Data collection methods include extensive literature searches and case study analysis to gather insights into the implementation and effectiveness of sustainable project management practices in the LNG industry. The findings reveal a growing trend towards the adoption of sustainable practices in LNG projects, driven by regulatory requirements, investor preferences, and stakeholder expectations. However, several challenges persist, including technological limitations, regulatory complexities, and cost implications. Nonetheless, these challenges present opportunities for innovation and collaboration, fostering the development of new technologies and strategies to enhance sustainability in LNG project management. In conclusion, this review underscores the importance of sustainable project management in the modern LNG industry, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to address environmental, social, and economic concerns while meeting energy demands. The insights provided offer valuable guidance for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers seeking to advance sustainability objectives in LNG initiatives.

Flawed Institutional Structures: Project Managers Underutilized in Nigeria’s Construction Industry

Many studies have been conducted on the poor performance of the construction industry. Nigeria’s construction industry has been linked to project delays and cost overruns, leading to many abandoned construction projects throughout the country. These issues are largely attributed to inadequate project management practices and the underutilization of project managers. To address these challenges, an institutional analysis was conducted to examine the factors, within the institutional framework of the Nigerian construction industry, that hinder the effective utilization of project managers and the implementation of project management practices. Data were collected from the previous literature and were supported by data collected through semi-structured interviews in Nigeria. The collected data were coded into a four-level framework for institutional analysis. This method was employed to analyze the interrelationships between the identified embedded factors, institutional laws and regulations, and construction organizations, and to understand how their influence results in the underutilization of project managers. Deviation analysis was conducted as an additional method to categorize the impacts of the embedded factors at each institutional level and to determine how these impacts contribute to the underutilization of project managers in the Nigerian construction industry (NCI). It was found that the system of the underutilization of project managers consists of two subsystems: underutilization and lowering commitment. For the former subsystem, corruption, political influence, religious and tribal discrimination, and organizational culture were found to adversely influence the institutional structure of the construction industry in Nigeria. These factors weaken the governance mechanisms within the industry, leading project managers to prioritize corrupt practices over project needs. The ineffectiveness of existing laws and regulations exacerbates the situation, supporting unfair working conditions and contributing to the underperformance of project managers. This result leads to development at the top of the latter subsystem, with minimal incentives and limited opportunities for career growth within construction organizations. The findings hold significant potential for addressing systemic issues in the Nigerian construction industry, particularly the underutilization of project managers and organizational support measures to improve project management practices and mitigate the adverse effects of corruption.

Effect of Construction Manager's Political Skills on Relationship between Quality Management Practices and Inter-Organizational Project Success

This study aims to explore the impact of construction managers' political skills on the relationship between quality management practices and the success of inter-organizational construction projects in Pakistan. Objectively, it examines how project managers' political acumen influences the effectiveness of quality management strategies and, consequently, project success. Employing a survey-based methodology, the research encompasses a broad spectrum of professionals involved in various construction projects across Pakistan. Through this analysis, the study identifies key challenges to project success and assesses the correlation between managerial political skills and the effective implementation of quality management practices. The findings reveal a notable positive relationship between these elements, highlighting the critical role of skills such as communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution. Additionally, the research underscores the interconnected nature of managerial competencies and identifies key factors impacting project success through advanced statistical techniques like principal component analysis and median absolute deviation. Significantly, this research provides novel insights into the role of human factors in the Pakistani construction industry's project management, proposing actionable strategies for skill enhancement and offering a comprehensive overview of factors influencing project success. Analytical Study of Risk Analysis and Role of Project Management in Construction Industry

Abstract: The objective of this research is to study the risk analysis and project management in construction industry. The benefits of risk management are not confined to large or risky projects. The process may be formalized in these circumstances, but it is applicable for all scales of project and procurement activity. It can be applied at all stages in the project cycle, from the earliest assessments of strategy to the supply, operation, maintenance and disposal of individual items, facilities or assets. This study stressed on many aspects on the subject of project management in terms of problems and impediments, and suggested solutions through this project, in order to motivate and develop the management of the projects. It project is involves stage by stage construction industry facing issues and its solutions by various approaches like Questionnaires, qualitative method and quantitative method etc... Aim of this project to investigate the current level of application of project management and the obstacles that have prevented its introduction in the Indian construction industry. DO HUMBLE LEADERS AFFECT THE SUCCESS OF A PROJECT, OR DOES COMPLEXITY PLAY ITS ROLE? EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM PUNJAB

The existing study aims to assess the association between humble leadership and project success by analysing the moderating effect of the project. Cross-sectional data was extracted from 231 project managers, nominated by convenience sampling, working in project organisations in the construction industry in Punjab, Pakistan. By using SPSS and AMOS, the results are verified. The outcome exhibited that humble leadership assists in achieving the project's success, and project complexity plays its role as a moderator. This research shows how the chosen leadership style (humble leadership) deals with the project complexities and helps in the smooth implementation of projects that help achieve a successful project. For the construction projects to be completed successfully, it is essential to identify a leadership style that helps to identify and resolve the complexities of the project. The investigation yields favourable results for the project managers in Pakistan's construction industry. Since a project's success depends on the roles and perspectives of its leader and his leadership style, the recognition and participation of the leader play a part in its achievement. This study also encourages academics to focus on project management by connecting the leadership style and outcomes that should be understood and implemented from the project's initial planning stages.

Exploring the Implementation of Agile Project Management in the United States Construction Industry: Benefits, Challenges, and Success Factors

This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the implementation of agile project management methodologies in the construction industry in the United States. The research utilized a review of literature methodology to examine the benefits, challenges, and success factors associated with adopting agile practices in construction projects. By analyzing past studies and scholarly publications, a comprehensive understanding of the topic was achieved. The study highlighted several key benefits of agile project management in the construction industry. These benefits included improved adaptability to changing project requirements, increased client satisfaction through enhanced collaboration and continuous feedback, and greater project transparency and visibility. Additionally, agile methodologies were found to foster more effective risk management and improved project delivery timelines. Challenges encountered during the implementation of agile practices in the construction industry were also identified. These challenges encompassed resistance to change, inadequate stakeholder buy-in, difficulties in integrating Agile with traditional construction practices, and the need for skilled agile practitioners. Understanding these challenges can assist project managers and stakeholders in developing strategies to mitigate potential obstacles. By synthesizing the existing literature, this research provides valuable insights into the implementation of Agile project management in the United States construction industry. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the benefits, challenges, and success factors associated with agile practices, enabling construction professionals to make informed decisions and adopt effective strategies when implementing agile methodologies in their projects. Assessing the factors of transactional leadership style for construction projects: a case of Nigerian construction industry

Purpose The role of construction industry in harnessing human and material resources of a nation cannot be overemphasised; hence, the emergence of the requirement of leadership. This study aims to assess the usage of factors of transactional leadership style (TSLS) by the project managers (PMs) in the Nigeria construction industry. Design/methodology/approach A survey research design approach with questionnaire as an instrument of gathering data was adopted. Out of 1,233 questionnaires distributed, data from 975 received with acceptable feedback were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings This study revealed the following factors under active management by exception as the TSLS factors often employed by PMs in Nigeria. These factors are the three frequently used factors: they are: “always give clear and final instructions to be implemented in the project”; “always observed the progress of the project, assessed risk and took precaution to avoid mistakes in the project”; and “always closely monitor performance for errors needing correction”. This study concludes that it is imperative for PMs in the study area to adopt and incorporate these factors to ensure continuous successful delivery of construction projects. Practical implications Therefore, it is hoped that the findings of this research will help the construction industry managers to address the age-long but unrecognised leadership problem confronting the sector, thereby boosting project delivery. Originality/value The findings establish the appropriateness or otherwise of adoption of factors of transactional leadership, either in part or a whole.

Specifics of project culture implementation in heavy industry: regional aspect

The study examines the unique challenges and opportunities presented by heavy industry projects across various regions. With an emphasis on the influence of geographical, economic and sociocultural factors on the successful adaptation of a project culture, the analysis penetrates not only macroeconomic indicators and infrastructural development, but also corporate values and local management practices. Using integrative methodology, in particular comparative analysis and case studies, the essential aspects that must be taken into account for effective project management in this industry are identified. The article offers a set of applicable, regionally specific recommendations. This study not only complements the existing academic base on project management in heavy industry, but also focuses on the urgent need to adapt established methodologies in accordance with regional characteristics. The introduction of comparative analysis between different regions can enrich the knowledge base and contribute to the formation of integral methodologies for project management in heavy industry. The work offers a comprehensive analytical toolkit for assessing the effectiveness of project culture in the era of globalization and regional differentiation.

Management of industrial development projects in special economic zone

Article examines problem of improving efficiency of industrial development project management in special economic zones (SEZ) at various stages of their life cycle. Conducted analysis of functioning features of SEZs in the context of implementation state policy on their development in the Russian Federation (RF), with subsequent determination nature of prevailing trends and changes in application of this tool in macroeconomic environment to promote economic activity. To solve problem that posed in study, authors have developed a method for evaluating effectiveness of industrial development project management in SEZ, which consists in using the benefits and advantages of preferential management regime in the activities of construction organizations implementing similar projects. Purpose of study is to improve methods of assessing effectiveness of management activities for implementation project activities in the SEZ based on a balanced spatial arrangement of construction objects. Result of research consists in development a model that describes role of SEZ in ensuring improvement of industrial and construction sphere of state and creation a project management assessment method that considers provisions of spatial development strategy. Key research methods that served as basis for solving scientific problems are theoretical analysis, synthesis, measurement, and modeling. In addition, article pays special attention to reflection the role of "one window" principle, which operates on SEZ territory and has a positive impact on implementation investment and construction projects (ICPs). Authors of study suggest that possibility of accelerated passage of administrative procedures for obtaining executive permits for construction activities largely shapes effectiveness of industrial development projects.

Technological Adaptation Model; an integrated application process to the productive chain in MyPyMES

The purpose of this work is to develop a new analysis proposal an integrate the tools in the management of productive technological evolution projects in the industrial area, through a technological and procedural assurance plan for change management, focused on the creation of value and innovation, in order to face the challenges of globalized competition, respond to a productive logic with characteristics of the so-called smart factory and thus close the technological gap. Among the significant tasks, the review and analysis of the means of integration was developed, to associate them with the existing knowledge generated in the interaction, with practical purposes in decision-making activities, for the construction of strategies, and daring actions to face challenges, that promote the change to contemporary technologies, rapid methodologies, for the design and management of engineering and industrial automation projects, in order to generate competitive advantage in MyPyMES. The results allowed the construction of a Technological Adaptation Model that supports MyPyMES.

Management of industrial service projects developed by Brazilian companies and their relationship with critical success factors

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the project management of industrial services developed by Brazilian companies and their relationship with Critical Success Factors. Theoretical framework – Through a content analysis, Critical Success Factors were aligned to industrial service management and PMBOK project management guidelines.Design/methodology/approach – To develop the study, a survey on industrial service project management was carried out on industrial service professionals. Survey data were analyzed through frequency distribution and ranked using the TOPSIS technique. Findings – The results showed that the companies mentioned use PMBOK guidelines, however, they can be improved. Comparatively, the project schedule management is highlighted; the five CSFs that are considered more relevant are related to the scope, schedule, costs, integration, communications and resource management. Research, Practical & Social implications – The results provide insights for organizational practices and guide management improvements, showing the main opportunities for improvement in the companies analyzed. Originality/value – The literature fails to provide an analysis of Brazilian industrial service companies. Obstacles to the career progression of professional female project managers (PFPMs) in the Ghanaian construction industry

PurposeThere are significantly fewer women than men in managerial positions, mainly project management. This problem is noticeable in the construction and engineering sectors, traditionally male-dominated industries with leadership much dependent on masculine qualities. This study examines the obstacles to the career progression of professional female project managers (PFPMs) in the Ghanaian construction industry.Design/methodology/approachTwenty potential obstacles to women's career progression in the construction industry were identified from a comprehensive review of the literature. A questionnaire was prepared and administered among eighty project managers who work in large construction firms in Ghana. Data obtained were analysed using one sample t-test, Kendall's concordance test, Chi-square test and exploratory factor analysis.FindingsThe findings suggest the significance of all the twenty factors as potential obstacles to the career progression of PFPMs. The exploratory factor analysis identified five underlying grouped obstacles: “leadership and human capital related issues”, “issues related to discrimination of all forms”, “career aspiration and planning issues”, “female related role conflicts”, and “recruitment and selection issues”.Research limitations/implicationsThe subjective nature of the views of the respondents could influence the evaluation of the obstacles. With this study only exploring the dimensions underlying the significant obstacles, future studies could examine the interrelationships between the various obstacles and move on to determine their impacts on the career progression of professional female PMs as well.Practical implicationsHaving an in-depth understanding of these obstacles, stakeholders and other industry practitioners in Ghana could make informed decisions on measures to put in place to address some of these critical issues to raise the standard of professional female PMs in the construction industry. Policymakers and gender advocates in Ghana could also take up some of the critical obstacles identified and provide suitable strategies to educate and create the needed awareness of the industry on those obstacles. Practically, the findings from this study can be valuable for informing decision-making at different management levels in the construction industry.Originality/valueWith country-specific (Ghana) obstacles identified, the findings significantly contribute to the literature on the career advancement of females in the construction sector.

An Empirical Analysis of the Importance of Teamwork on Project Management: The Case of Nigeria Telecommunication Sector

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the importance of teamwork in project management in the Nigerian telecommunication industry. Data was collected across 310 telecommunication firms and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a t-test. The study found that teamwork is significant in meeting project timelines, project efficiency, reduction in project costs, enhanced project quality and improve customer satisfaction. The article is devoted to a certain paradox that exists in the field of engineering, which is understood as the management of industrial and infrastructure projects. On the one hand, recently there has been an activity of state bodies and the business community towards the topic of engineering, on the other hand, there are contradictions in the terminology of engineering, leading to the fact that the same terms are understood by different people in different ways, or existing concepts are interpreted according to differently. The existing uncertainty and chaos in engineering in the terminology of engineering requires that the state and the business community finally agree on the definition of a number of concepts. The author of the article shows examples of these concepts and suggests ways to solve this problem.

It is clear that more research can be performed on the most current variables, concepts, and models within project management. The absence of such research can be detrimental to the field. This paper studies the variables, their concepts, and models in project management and procedures. As a result, an assessment model is created that can greatly contribute to the engineering field. This model can ensure more successful projects and better communication within teams. This study's findings and discussion contribute to the fields of industrial engineering, engineering management, and project management.

Identifying Barriers in the Implementation of Agile Methodologies in Automotive Industry

Projects have grown into more dynamic and complex endeavors, and agile project management should be considered as a way to deal with them. This is a novel study in this field, because the implementation of agile project management in the automotive industry was not explored so far, thus, this work intended to fill this gap, by identifying barriers in the implementation of agile methodologies in project management regarding the automotive industry. This was conducted through a questionnaire survey, which was developed and distributed to 148 manufacturing companies of components for the automotive industry, out of a total number of companies of 240, and 56 complete answers were obtained (23.33%). Statistical analyses were performed using a Kruskal–Wallis test, a Mann–Whitney test, and Spearmen’s correlation. A real picture of the implementation of agile project management in the Portuguese automotive industry is depicted through this work. ‘Organizational’, ‘Knowledge and Technology’, ‘Institutional’, and ‘Financial’ barriers are found to be the most important. However, in overcoming these barriers, companies can be more sustainable in economic, environmental, and social terms. Recommendations on how to overcome these barriers were presented, and a framework sequencing these recommendations was presented, leading to an effective implementation of agile methodologies. It starts with the willingness of the company, and all collaborators, to adopt the agile methodologies, looking for the agile values as an input in order to achieve a competitive advantage. It is followed by an initial investment, which intends to attain the deployment of an agile team, composed of highly skilled collaborators with a clear understanding of the agile objectives, who disseminate knowledge about agile methodologies to the other collaborators, increasing their ability to implement agile methodologies in project management. This team should work and develop frameworks and workflows, according to each company’s characteristics and environment. The studied aspects can be replicated in other countries, and allow a comparison of the situation between countries, trying to correlate the culture of each country with the ability to implement agile methodologies, among other aspects, such as economical level of the companies, type of production, and the commitment of the collaborators to improve processes and create competitive advantages with which to face competitors.

Assessment of competencies to promote best project management practices for road infrastructure projects in Ghana

PurposeThis research aims to evaluate the status of project management best practices in the road infrastructure sector of Ghana through the inquiry of project managers’ competency.Design/methodology/approachBased on a thorough literature review on competency and project management best practices, a criterion for measuring best practices based on the competencies was identified. Using closed-ended questionnaires as a survey instrument, data was collected and analyzed using a one-sample t-test, Kendall’s concordance coefficient and simple regression.FindingsThe key finding reveals that in achieving project management best practices for the Ghanaian road infrastructure projects, project managers should straighten and strengthen their capability in terms of skills, personal characteristics and knowledge as ranked. An appropriate blend of these characteristics would be a necessary requirement for project managers. Through this, project managers and project-based road infrastructure organizations will be able to win the confidence of their stakeholders and attain improvements in cost-effectiveness, quality and time management.Research limitations/implicationsThis study provides project managers in the road infrastructure sector with relevant information on which criteria and variables are critical and are frequently required to manage such projects. This will be helpful for training programs and professional development of project managers in the road infrastructure sector.Originality/valueThe study provides a new direction and focuses for project managers in the road infrastructure industry toward best project management practices in developing countries. It also complements existing studies in this area which deepen the understanding of the subject area.
