Introduction. At present civilization is characterized by a growing large-scale socio-economic impact on the environment, which leads to global negative changes, the gradual destruction of the mechanism of integral functioning of the zone of life on Earth. Training of highly qualified personnel capable of environmental protection activities, and effective greening of production implementation is relevant. The purpose of the paper is to investigate and define the methodological aspects of environmental activities of students as a prerequisite for the formation of their professional development and the disclosure of the educational potential of extracurricular activities. Results. The educational basis of proactive position is the acquisition of the systematic environmental knowledge to ensure the use of practical skills. A proactive position implies the student's readiness for a personal participation in relevant practical ecological activities. They analyze, evaluate their own actions and possible direct or indirect consequences of such interaction. The result of such interaction, which covers emotionally precious relations with beliefs and needs, is an active position on the preservation of the environment, which is effectively realized through the educational potential of environmental activities. Originality. The implementation of this condition involves the interaction of a teacher and a student in the educational process during internships, research, extracurricular environmental activities. Due to such guidance, which involves various forms of extracurricular activities, students of the specialty 205 Forestry of Cherkasy State Technological University are able to join the multi-vector forestry events. Among the most relevant are practically oriented ones, where students have the opportunity to improve their professional skills and consolidate the theoretical foundations of the future specialty: Black walnut (Juglans nigra) planting on the campus territory. Every year students actively participate in environmental events, such as "Save the Primroses" in Kholodnyi Yar. They support the International Day of Forests; in particular, together with teachers and heads of forestries, theoretical and practical classes in the wide-open spaces are held. The planting of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Red oak (Quercus rubra L.) took place in terms of the international project "Greening of the Planet" under the leadership of Cherkasy State Forestry chief executive and teachers; as well as an involvement in the all-Ukrainian event of the State Forest Agency "Creating forests together" in support of the President's program "Green Country". Conclusion. The educational potential of environmental activities cannot be considered as a separate form of education along with other types, because it is a holistic, interconnected, and complex process. Its specificity is fundamentally new and perhaps the most important direction of the general educational process, as none of them integrates as many links as environmental one. While teaching the professional disciplines, a teacher needs to prepare students for a conscious, integrated perception of the world around them. This aspect is realized through practical classes during excursions, experiments, industrial practices, environmental events during the process of educational work.
