Evaluating the Educational Impact of Digital Storytelling through Student Perceptions

Digital storytelling can strengthen relations between participants (N. G. Davey & Benjaminsen, 2021; N. Davey & Moulton, 2020). This research intends to connect people around the world to build networking and collaboration to create stories but for the first step, the focus is intended to cooperate with students in the classroom to write a story together by combining ideas and creativity. Reading, writing, and sharing are the main activities conducted by participants. It is the participant’s turn to read the previous paragraph, add another paragraph, and share it with the other participant. Since this research was intended to find out how students/participants’ perceptions of experiencing digital storytelling, a quantitative approach was employed as the research design. Using digital storytelling to engage students in meaningful learning experiences is a useful strategy. It develops teamwork, creativity, and writing abilities. Students find the storytelling process more engaging and enjoyable when technology is used to improve it. The study''s conclusions show that students view digital storytelling favorably because it inspires them to use their imaginations, work with others, and become better writers

Bosonic rational conformal field theories in small genera, chiral fermionization, and symmetry/subalgebra duality

A (1 + 1)D unitary bosonic rational conformal field theory (RCFT) may be organized according to its genus, a tuple (c,C) consisting of its central charge c and a unitary modular tensor category C which describes the (2 + 1)D topological quantum field theory for which its maximally extended chiral algebra forms a holomorphic boundary condition. We establish a number of results pertaining to RCFTs in “small” genera, by which we informally mean genera with the central charge c and the number of primary operators rank(C) both not too large. We start by completely solving the modular bootstrap problem for theories with at most four primary operators. In particular, we characterize, and provide an algorithm which efficiently computes, the function spaces to which the partition function of any bosonic RCFT with rank(C)≤4 must belong. Using this result, and leveraging relationships between RCFTs and holomorphic vertex operator algebras which come from “gluing” and cosets, we rigorously enumerate all bosonic theories in 95 of the 105 genera (c,C) with c ≤ 24 and rank(C)≤4. This includes as (new) special cases the classification of chiral algebras with three primaries and c < 120/7 ∼ 17.14, and the classification of chiral algebras with four primaries and c < 62/3 ∼ 20.67. We then study two applications of our classification. First, by making use of chiral versions of bosonization and fermionization, we obtain the complete list of purely left-moving fermionic RCFTs with c < 23 as a corollary of the results of the previous paragraph. Second, using a (conjectural) concept which we call “symmetry/subalgebra duality,” we precisely relate our bosonic classification to the problem of determining certain generalized global symmetries of holomorphic vertex operator algebras.

Ramsey properties for V-shaped posets in the Boolean lattice

In this paper, we study the Ramsey properties for V-shaped posets. A V-shaped posetVm,n can be obtained by identifying the minimal elements of two chains on m+1 and n+1 elements, respectively. Let P1,P2,…,Pk be posets. The Boolean Ramsey numberR(P1,P2,…,Pk), first introduced by Axenovich and Walzer [2], is the minimum number n such that no matter how we color the elements in the Boolean lattice Bn with k colors, there always exists a poset Pi contained in Bn whose elements are all colored with i. We investigate R(P1,P2,…,Pk) for given V-shaped posets as Pis and manage to determine this value in some cases. Next, we characterize the minimal posets Q contained in Bn, where n=R(P1,P2,…,Pk), having the Ramsey property described in the previous paragraph when Pi=V1,1 for all i or when k=2 and Pi=Vi,i for i=1,2.Given posets P and Q, we define the Boolean rainbow Ramsey numberRR(P,Q) as the minimum number n such that when arbitrarily coloring the elements in Bn, there always exists either a monochromatic P or a rainbow Q. An upper bound for RR(P,Ak) was given by Chang, Li, Gerbner, Methuku, Nagy, Patkos, and Vizer [4] for a general poset P and the k-element antichain Ak. We give the exact value of RR(Vm,n,Ak) if m≠n.

Image paragraph captioning with topic clustering and topic shift prediction

Image paragraph captioning involves generating a semantically coherent paragraph describing an image’s visual content. The selection and shifting of sentence topics are critical when a human describes an image. However, previous hierarchical image paragraph captioning methods have not fully explored or utilized sentence topics. In particular, the continuous and implicit modeling of topics in these methods makes it difficult to supervise the topic prediction process explicitly. We propose a new method called topic clustering and topic shift prediction (TCTSP) to solve this problem. Topic clustering (TC) in the sentence embedding space generates semantically explicit and discrete topic labels that can be directly used to supervise topic prediction. By introducing a topic shift probability matrix that characterizes human topic shift patterns, topic shift prediction (TSP) predicts subsequent topics that are both logical and consistent with human habits based on visual features and language context. TCTSP can be combined with various image paragraph captioning model structures to improve performance. Extensive experiments were conducted on the Stanford image paragraph dataset, and superior results were reported compared with previous state-of-the-art approaches. In particular, TCTSP improved the consensus-based image description evaluation (CIDEr) performance of image paragraph captioning to 41.67%. 3D Imaging of PEMFC Electrode Microstructure by Electron Tomography and 3D FIB/SEM

Scanning and transmission electron microscopies (SEM and TEM) are two imaging techniques widely used in the study of PEMFC electrode microstructure. They have played a significant role in the improvement of electrode components and the understanding of their main degradation mechanisms. However, the currently available description of the electrode microstructure does not allow yet to unambiguously identify the key microstructural factors that limit gas and proton transport within the electrode. These factors are crucial as they control the performance of the PEMFC, especially at high current density, and are therefore the subject of numerous studies, using either fine electrochemical measurements or modeling approaches.The objective of our work is to provide an improved description of the electrode microstructure by giving quantitative information on its porosity at different scales as well as on the ionomer distribution. For this purpose, we develop 3D characterization techniques applied to the PEMFC electrodes such as electron tomography and 3D FIB/SEM.The studied cathode electrode was prepared using TEC10E50E catalyst from Tanaka that is 50 wt % loading of Pt deposited on high-specific area carbon (HSAC), and Nafion D2020. The Pt loading of the electrode is 0.2 mgPtcm-2 and the ionomer/carbon ratio is 0.8.As a first step, electron tomography analyses were performed on the Pt/HSAC powder to determine the distribution of Pt nanoparticles (NPs) which can be located either on the carbon surface (outer NPs) or inside the carbon porosity (inner NPs)[1-3]. Our strategy is to record tilt image series by using two annular detectors: i) a high angle annular detector avoiding Pt NP diffraction contrast for the 3D image reconstruction of Pt NPs (without diffraction artifact) and ii) a lower angle annular detector that enhances carbon contrast for the 3D image reconstruction of the carbon phase. These two segmented images were then combined (Figure 1), allowing the calculation of the NP size histogram but also of the volume and the surface area of the two NP populations (inner and outer NPs).On the second step, the porosity of the electrode was analyzed by 3D FIB/SEM. A volume of around 10 X 10 x 5 μm3 was imaged with a cubic voxel size of 5 × 5 × 5 nm3. The solid phase (carbon, Pt NPs and ionomer) segmentation was based on a composite image created from two electron detectors (secondary and backscattered electrons) and using a machine learning software. Quantitative data such as the total porosity, the pore size distribution or the agglomerate size distribution of the solid phase were extracted from this volume. Figure 2a shows a 2D slice of this segmented volume where the solid phase is in black and the porosity in white.In order to analyze the electrode porosity with a higher spatial resolution, electron tomography experiment was also performed on a 150 nm thick slice of the electrode cut by ultramicrotomy after being embedded in an epoxy resin. The tilt image series were recorded with a pixel size of 0.5 nm and a field of view of 2 x 2 µm2. The 2D slice of the reconstructed volume (Figure 2b) shows that the largest solid agglomerates detected on the 3D FIB/SEM image can be identified as an agglomeration of numerous carbon particles. The challenge now is to quantify the porosity created between these carbon particles and to determine how many Pt NPs are located in these large agglomerates.Finally, the distribution of the ionomer was analyzed within the electrode similarly to [4]. For this analysis, a 150 nm slice of the electrode was cut by cryo-ultramicrotomy without embedding in epoxy resin as described in [5]. TEM images show that the ionomer is not homogeneously distributed on the surface of the entire carbon particles but is often observed in the concave surface created between the carbon particles (Figure 3). These observations suggest a ionomer distribution in agreement with the heterogeneous ionomer coating model proposed by Inoue et al. [6]. We also suggest that a part of the ionomer could be localized in the small pores located inside the large carbon agglomerates described in the previous paragraph. This could explain why the ionomer is so difficult to detect on TEM images. This work has been done in the frame of the FURTHER-FC project. Purpose: Nowadays, information technology is used massively by business organisations in order to reap maximum profits. This condition is possible if the organisation has superior human resources in the IT field. The purpose of this research is to review and convince that information technology and human resources are important factors for the success of business organisations to achieve the ideal vision and mission that has been designed before. The two factors complement each other and cannot be separated. Theoretical framework: Information technology will have a significant impact on business development if operated properly by competent and capable humans. Information technology and the human element, among others, fall into the category of tangible and intangible resources. So, this study will also slightly correlate the RBV theory that has been slightly discussed in the previous paragraph. In addition, it complements the discussion of the study to make it more interesting and comprehensive. Design/Methodology/Approach: The research method took place in three stages. The first step was to collect and then review available literature and research. Next, the data was examined and the findings incorporated into the study framework. Third, instrument development. This stage involves detailing all the variables and describing the measurement items that have been developed. Findings: The results of this study have provided evidence that human proficiency in IT will bring blessings to profit-oriented organisations. Moreover, the current business environment is increasingly dynamic and disruptive. Research, practical & social implications: This research is expected to be a useful input for business people to be more courageous in making decisions when it comes to investing in IT and human resources in order to create superior and competitive business performance. Originality/Value: The results of this study are expected to be useful input for business people to be more courageous in making decisions when investing in IT resources and human resources in order to create superior and competitive business performance. In addition, it is also expected to be a formal discussion material in universities, especially business administration and management study programmes so that new and fresh ideas can be found that can be used as further research material so as to enrich the knowledge literature.

Signs of a combatant. Comparative analysis in the context of international and domestic armed conflicts

The issue related to the specifics of determining the characteristic features of a combatant during an armed conflict is under consideration. The provisions of international conventions and national legislation of Ukraine, which regulate relations during an armed conflict between warring parties and determine the status of participants in an armed conflict, are analyzed. Considerable attention is paid by the author to the analysis of such international legal acts as Geneva Convention III of 1949. "On the Protection of Prisoners of War" and Additional Protocol I of 1977. In particular, the important provisions of the Geneva Convention are the indication that, in addition to the provisions that are carried out in peacetime, this Convention applies in all cases of declared war or any other armed conflict that may arise between two or more High Contracting Parties, even if the state of war not recognized as one of them. The Convention also applies in all cases of partial or total occupation of the territory of the High Contracting Party, even if no armed resistance is offered to this occupation.
 Norms of Additional Protocol I of 1977 are no less relevant at present.
 Key in the analysis of the mentioned document is the provision that in cases not provided for by this Protocol or other international agreements, civilians and combatants remain under the protection and effect of the principles of international law arising from established customs, from the principles of humanity and from the requirements of public conscience. This Protocol, supplementing the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949 for the Protection of War Victims, applies in the situations specified in Article 2, common to these Conventions. The situations mentioned in the previous paragraph include armed conflicts in which peoples are fighting against colonial rule , foreign occupation and racist regimes to exercise their right to self-determination enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and in the Declaration on Principles of International Law Relating to Friendly Relations and Cooperation between States in accordance with the Charter of the Organization
 United Nations.
 The author tries to identify the characteristic features that indicate the combatants belong to the legal participants in both the international armed conflict and to identify the members of the resistance movement who may belong to the legal combatants and qualitatively distinguish them from mercenaries and other illegal participants in the armed conflict.
 Entering the new, third millennium, humanity could not get rid of old problems, which are reminded of themselves every time with the appearance of another armed conflict. Unfortunately, Ukraine was not an exception, on whose territory the armed aggression of the Russian Federation has been ongoing since 2014. The result of the aggression was a full-scale invasion of the territory of Ukraine by Russian troops on February 24, 2022. In essence, an international armed conflict of varying intensity has been taking place on the territory of Ukraine since 2014, which has turned into full-scale hostilities across the country since February 24, 2022.
 Modern international relations are characterized by a change in the nature of the conflict, the emergence of a number of new categories and situations, an increase in the number of victims among the civilian population, and the increasing internationalization of armed conflicts of a non-international nature. In this regard, the issue of identification of combatants during an armed conflict is extremely relevant.
 The author did not ignore the national legislation of Ukraine on the issue of identification of servicemen of the regular armed forces. Thus, the provisions of the Law of Ukraine "On the Defense of Ukraine" and the Regulation on special purpose units (squads) of the National Guard of Ukraine dated July 9, 2014, No. 651, were subjected to a thorough analysis.
 This article actually confirms the relevance of the application of international humanitarian law in national legislation and points to significant gaps that cannot be filled without the help of international law as a whole.
 With his work, the author tries to draw the attention of domestic legislators to the problems of implementing international humanitarian law into the national law of Ukraine, and to single out the most important directions in this area.

Show Me the Bibliography:Indigeneity and the Eighteenth Century Alice Te Punga Somerville (bio) What is Indigenous about the eighteenth century? What is Indigenous about this special issue? What is the difference between, on the one hand, studies of the eighteenth century that trace European imperial expansion and thus necessarily talk about Indigenous peoples and, on the other, whatever is happening in this collection—or indeed, whatever is happening specifically in these two longer essays by N. S. 'Ilaheva Tua'one and Julia Lum? If the mere presence of Indigenous peoples, knowledges, and worlds as objects of study or as topics of focus or as strands of interest was a satisfactory answer to these questions, it would be entirely plausible to argue that a great deal of existing scholarship about the eighteenth century could have been included in these pages, and that a special issue like this is surely redundant. An alternative answer could be that all of the people who have produced the scholarship are Indigenous—but that's not the case in this volume. Still another could be that the scholarship engages Indigenous language archives, or perhaps is written in Indigenous languages—but those aren't the cases here either. [End Page 255] Perhaps the answer is more about argument and method than about topic—that the scholarship in this special issue seeks to decenter Eurocentrism by centering Indigenous perspectives, although what such grand (and laudable) ambitions look like on the page, and in the review process, quickly becomes subjective and complex. How much less Cook does an essay need before it becomes Indigenous? Does it count if the focus is on how Cook and his peers and their crews engaged with Indigenous peoples, and if it does, how is that actually about Indigeneity and not just about non-Indigenous perspectives? How does one center "perspectives" of Indigenous peoples without resorting to stereotypes or generalization? And, for the purposes of this journal, how might one account for Eurocentrism (decentered or otherwise) or for Indigenous perspectives using the tools—and people—available through current academic conventions for ensuring and assuring rigor? A response I would proffer, which is less of a compromise and more of a stance than it might first appear, is: "all of these things and more." These questions—and my answer—may seem circular, but they sit at the heart of Indigenous literary studies and Indigenous Studies more broadly, and they provoke us to think carefully about the shapes and stakes of our research.1 None of the possible answers suggested in the previous paragraph is enough on its own, but together they weave something tangible. I use the metaphor of weaving here quite deliberately. This lineup of considerations is neither a bullet-point list of things for which keen (or cynical) scholars should aim, nor a tool for evaluating the degree—the quantum—of "Indigeneity" (or "engagement with Indigeneity") in scholarly work. Rather, it is the intersection and interlocking nature—the mutual reciprocity—of these answers that matters. In this issue, and particularly in the pair of longer essays, we find a constellation of researchers, approaches, topics, and archives. Placing pressure on any one essay to critically engage Indigeneity in the eighteenth century in its entirety would miss the point not only of a special issue but also of the broader calls for engagement with the longstanding critical work of Indigenous Studies scholarship. We might look, then, to the broader cloth in which these essays and this issue are woven: to bibliographies which direct us to broader conversations in which the researchers are enmeshed; to the positioning of authors in institutional and Indigenous contexts; to those gorgeous points where individual pieces here speak to each other in ways that stitch together communities, texts, questions, and archives that are usually separated by contemporary disciplinary configurations as well as by empire-based and state-based networks. We can hold this special issue that foregrounds Indigeneity alongside similar volumes in journals that have overlapping interests in the period or topic.2 We can consider the likelihood that each of these pieces will move around so many Indigenous kitchen tables, desks, and social media messaging platforms as Indigenous scholarly...

The Similarities and Differences of Gender Bias in Indonesia and India.

Indonesia and India have had a good relationship for a long time. Apart from the similarities mentioned in the previous paragraph, Indonesia and India also have other similarities. This project seeks to document gender bias in Indonesia and India. A questionnaire comprising 43 questions was prepared to achieve the data. There are two types of questions in the questionnaire, namely: 21 items with yes or no questions and 22 open questions. The result claimed that the stereotype is not a statement that justifies the opinion of everyone in Indonesia or in India. The statement is still valid in some parts of society. But the world is becoming more broadminded. The community's thinking about the rights and roles of each gender is being recognized. The people gradually are becoming aware of their respective roles and rights. The opportunity to gain higher education for all genders provides a great opportunity to minimize gender inequalities that are still felt by some particular people.

Cable Stays Vibration Mitigation by Means of Viscous Dampers Attached to Adjacent Cables

Abstract In the case of cable-stayed bridges with very large spans of over 400m, the common engineering practice at the national level requires the placement of vibration mitigation devices in the form of external dampers (usually of the viscous type). The main disadvantage of this solution is due to the relative positions of these devices along the cable, which are very close to the edge, in a zone where their influence on the cable is minimal. This paper presents a different way of using these devices, by fixing them between adjacent cables. This eliminates the disadvantage presented in the previous paragraph and the efficiency of the device is expected to increase greatly. The paper presents parametric variations of the viscosity of such a device in different scenarios of their positioning along the cables, also correlated with the influence on the cable system’s dynamic response.

In this article is stated that the procedure of the lands’ assignation is particularly relevant. In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine "Land is the main national wealth, which is under special protection of the state." Because of this, there is a need to analyze the legal framework, to reveal all the intricacies of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Land Code, problems that may arise in the process of assignation lands, and other documents. Land ownership is guaranteed. This right acquires and realizes by citizens, artificial person and by the state exclusively in accordance with Art. 14 of the Constitution of Ukraine. It should be noted that the legal order in Ukraine is based on the principles according to which no one can be forced to do what is not provided by law. Public authorities, local governments, and their officials should act only on the basis, within the powers and in the process provided by the Constitution and laws of Ukraine in accordance with Art. 19 of the Constitution of Ukraine. It should be emphasized that the citizens of Ukraine have the right to get own land free of charge, but many citizens don’t use this right because of their legal ignorance. It can have many reasons, but the main reason is the low level of legal awareness of citizens nowadays. Practical experience shows that citizens who are interested in getting land free of charge, knowing about this right, always try to find out at the place of application for permission to allocate land from state or communal ownership in the local government. According to the previous paragraph, the legal awareness of citizens is not at the highest level, they need to learn current legislation in more details, and if it’s necessary, inquire detailed information from the competent authorities. Often there are cases of queues for getting lands. There is a misconception that it is enough to write a statement without specifying a targeted location and targeted dimensions. As a result, citizens receive a reasoned refusal of their application. Another problem that occurs nowadays, is that citizens believe that they can get land only at the place of their registration, but the Land Code regulates otherwise. It should be noted that if citizens knows all the procedure of abstraction lands apply for permission to get land from state or communal ownership, they should indicate the approximate location and approximate size, as well as they know that their application must be considered within a month. The problem is not considering of citizens' applications. The problem is that the mayor doesn’t ensure the proper work of the executive committee. That’s why most citizens who have not received permission consult with lawyers or attorneys to prove in court that their rights were violated.
