Flipping and Engaging: Usefulness of Case-Based Flipped Classroom in Ensuring Conceptual Learning under Competency-Based Medical Education

The 21st century has seen tremendous evolution in the field of medical education, alongside massive use of technology for learner interaction and engagement to ensure contextual learning. Keeping in line with the global trend in medical education, the National Medical Council of India introduced Competency-Based Medical Education in 2019 for medical graduates. Competency-Based Medical Education is an outcome-based approach that focuses on the abilities that medical professionals should possess to provide medical care to the population. It is designed to create an “Indian Medical Graduate” possessing requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and responsiveness, so that she or he may function appropriately and effectively as a physician of first contact of the community while being globally relevant. This requires shifting the teaching-learning activities from traditional to modern innovative approaches. Active learning strategies in competency-based medical education are interactive lectures, Flipped classrooms, discussion-based, Scenario-based, problem-based, case-based, team-based, and peer teaching. Among these, we have used Flipped classrooms with case-based exercises during class. PowerPoint presentations of the lecture and resources from the textbook were provided beforehand, with instructions to the students that they are required to read before the scheduled face-to-face class. During the class in the form of multiple choice questions, discussion was carried out for the topic which included case-based multiple choice questions, and case-based scenarios to emphasize the topic. It is observed that students of the current generation enjoy more interactive and task-based sessions.

Best teaching practices that a faculty may adopt for higher quality of teaching delivery and engaging experiential teaching approach

This paper explains how to prepare students to learn faster, as learning is not directly connected to classroom teaching. Learning can happen in various forms, and hence, experiential teaching connects students well. The learning could be faster and far greater than expected. This study follows a process incorporated for betterment and advancement for growth. Students do come with a learning attitude, and they expect the class to be filled with easy learning and faster understanding. Students also understand subjects based on experiential learning. This experiential learning is a seven- step process that includes an introduction to the topic, recollecting what was taught the other day, a PowerPoint presentation for seventeen minutes, a dictation for 3 to 4 minutes on important points for the day, a video presentation of five minutes, a live video from a Google search for five minutes, or a showing of the relevancy of the current topic, removing the screen, 'Chalk and Talk' and making them do it, and a heuristic ideation file, collage, or management game that engages them for the full 60 minutes and closes the topic by discussing what will be taught the next day. Every time the 5WH principle, which stands for Why, What, Where, When, Which, and How, is followed, a specific notion, construct, or theory about management-related topics and practice is designed and developed for betterment, making this original academic study an empirical paper.

Preference of Chalkboard or PowerPoint Teaching as a Teaching Tool in Undergraduate MBBS students in Anatomy: A Comparative Study

Introduction: Traditional chalkboard lectures and modern PowerPoint presentations are integral components of medical education, each possessing distinct attributes and advantages. The primary objective is to ascertain whether students exhibit a preference for one method over the other in terms of facilitating better understanding and ensuring long-term retention. This study investigates the preferences of 2nd and 3rd-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery students at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal, regarding the teaching methods employed in anatomy classes.
 Methods: The study was conducted in the Department of Human Anatomy of B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences as a part of coursework. The research duration extended from April 21st to May 18th, 2019. Ethical clearance was obtained, and data collection utilized a pre-validated questionnaire, employing simple random sampling with an expected size of 120 among the 150 students. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 11.5.
 Results: The study revealed varied student preferences for chalkboard and PowerPoint teaching methods. PowerPoint was favored for structured lectures, content clarity, and visual aids, while chalkboards were preferred for natural pauses, facilitating note-taking, and promoting long-term retention. Advantages cited included simplicity, interest stimulation, and ease of notetaking or diagram creation.
 Conclusions: The analysis of data led to the conclusion that both methods have unique merits in anatomy teaching. PowerPoint excels in clarity, organization, and visual aids, while chalkboards shine in student engagement, note-taking, and lecture continuity. A holistic, integrative approach that harnesses the strengths of both methods is recommended for optimal understanding and effectiveness in teaching anatomy.

Comparison of Video-Based Learning versus Presentations in Lectures Amongst Medical Students in Pharmacology

Innovative teaching methods are constantly being explored to keep students engaged and challenge them academically. This study was done to compare the benefit of video-based learning methods compared to conventional power-point presentations. A total of 150 second-year medical undergraduate students were divided into two groups. Both groups were given a pre-test to test their baseline knowledge of the topic. One group was taught the mechanisms of action of the drugs by using lectures during presentations and the other group was taught with the help of videos. A post-test was conducted and scores from the two groups were compared. Feedback questionnaires were also administered to understand the students’ perception of the two teaching methods. The mean score in the video-based group was 15.59+2.46 and, in the presentation, group was 11.43+1.53, out of a total score of 20. A majority of 77.33% preferred video-based learning techniques. This study shows that conventional teaching techniques no longer suffice in keeping students engaged and novel approaches yield higher scores with a better learning experience. Similar studies exploring newer approaches in education are scarce. The findings of this study can be a jumping-off point for inculcating more creative teaching methods in the classroom.

Training to Build Students' Self-Awareness to Improve Qualities in Facing the Digital Era

The digital era encourages students to be able to adopt something innovative, collaborate, and build a wide network. Utilizing all digital opportunities to provide quality and find inspiration from creative sources. Aims of the service carried out is training to build students' self-awareness to improve quality in facing the digital era at SMKN 3 Depok. The service method is carried out by giving a pre-test to find out whether students understand self-awareness in improving their self-quality. After that, the material was given using Power Point Presentation, then a simulation was held, then questions and answers. After that, students complete a post test to find out that students understand the material that has been given. According from the results of the post test completed by the students, 90% students have knowledge about self-awareness to develop themselves in the digital era. As a result of this workshop, it is hoped that students will further improve student’s quality and be confident that students are able to make themselves more qualified. So that students will be more active in studying, more accepting of their place of study, and have the mindset to develop their own potential in order to be able to bring the environment to a higher quality in the digital era.

Students' Perception of Oral Presentation Assignment Using PowerPoint in English Education Students

In the English classroom, students are assigned to conduct oral presentations using PowerPoint as one of the visual aids. The study aimed to investigate the perceptions of English education students about oral presentations and classroom assignments using PowerPoint. The researchers employed qualitative methods and purposively selected a sample of 30 college students in the 5th semester of English education at one of the higher education institutions in Indonesia. The research instruments were Likert scale questionnaires and interviews. The data analysis used a thematic analysis. The result indicated that most students' perceptions were positive towards oral presentations using PowerPoint, which served as an assignment. Also, it highlights that oral presentations can enhance students' understanding and retention if the slides contain only important points, interesting pictures, or animation rather than full text. This research pointed out that students thought oral PowerPoint presentations were inefficient due to external factors such as a lack of internet connection and device preparation. Therefore, the oral presentation assignments using PowerPoint become necessary by considering the learning activity to obtain the learning objectives.

Enhancing Preschool English Vocabulary Through Multimedia Tools: Insights from a Mixed-Methods Study

Purpose – The primary objective of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of multimedia tools in augmenting English vocabulary enrichment in preschool environments. This study was driven by the need to explore innovative approaches in early childhood language education and assess these tools' impact in enhancing learning experiences. Design/methods/approach – Adopting a mixed-methods approach, the study, conducted in two North Aceh preschools, evaluated multimedia integration in teaching and its impact on student outcomes, motivation, and engagement. It combined observations, document analysis, interviews, and tests, employing qualitative (educator interviews) and quantitative (vocabulary pre-and post-tests) data collection methods. Findings – The findings significantly improved students' vocabulary acquisition and active participation. Using multimedia tools in teaching and incredibly interactive PowerPoint presentations led to enhanced engagement and effectiveness in learning. Students showed marked improvements in self-confidence and language skills. The study also observed that multimedia integration fostered collaborative learning and increased technological proficiency among students. Research implications/limitations – These findings imply a potential paradigm shift in early childhood language education, suggesting incorporating multimedia tools for more engaging and compelling learning experiences. The study's limitations include its focus on specific preschool environments and the potential challenge of replicating the approach in resource-limited settings. Further research is needed to assess the approach's applicability in diverse educational contexts and its long-term impacts. Originality/value – This study offers novel insights into the application of multimedia tools in early childhood language education. It highlights how innovative teaching methods can significantly improve vocabulary skills and educational outcomes. Implementing integrated curriculum in advanced teaching in the fundamentals of homoeopathy utilising flipped classroom, case-based learning, and group discussion: Post-graduate homoeopathic education

Objectives: Successful homoeopathic practice demands the integration of various knowledge of homoeopathic philosophy as well as psychology to clinical medicine, repertory, and materia medica into a meaningful whole. Case-based learning (CBL), flipped classroom (FC), and group discussion (GD) methods have been found useful in delivering the process of integration in the classroom. Materials and Methods: A team of teachers (one from each six PG departments) and a coordinator conducted the sessions. The following steps were delineated: Identifying a suitable case, preparing assignments for individual FC sessions, individual feedback, and GD. The teaching was conducted over eight sessions of 90 minutes each. Learning from each session was consolidated in the form of PowerPoint presentations at the end of the session. Students were asked to write their experience of learning from each session, which the teaching team conducted. Results: Combining the methods of CBL, FC, and GD in the backdrop of adult learning principles helped to deliver a well-rounded experience of practice in the classroom. This improved classroom engagement and developed critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in students. The method also helped to deliver deeper learning as students were actively involved throughout the process of learning. Conclusion: Implementing an integrated curriculum is challenging. A team of dedicated teachers with the common aim of delivering excellence in education willing to undertake the arduous journey with the students is essential. Minute planning and execution requires clarity of various clinical and homoeopathic concepts and their application. Combined methods comprising CBL, FC, and GD were found to be useful in implementing the challenging task to deliver certain vital concepts of the integrated curriculum.

Utilization of Coffee Skin Waste as Compost Fertilizer in Tapak Gedung Village, Kepahiang

Tapak Gedung is a village where most residents work as coffee farmers. This means that this village has a lot of coffee skin waste. This coffee skin waste is just left to lie around without being processed into something useful. Therefore, Thematic KKN students developed compost fertilizer from coffee skin waste in Tapak Gedung village which aims to optimize the natural potential in the form of abundant but unutilized coffee skins. This product has utility value for village communities, especially farmers, the majority of whom live in the village. Using coffee skin waste as a basic material in the composting process is an efficient solution to reduce the amount of coffee skin waste in the village. The decomposition process is accelerated by the addition of EM4 bacteria, helping in the decomposition of manure thereby optimizing the composting process. Compost is made from 80 kg of coffee husk bran, 200 mL of EM4 diluted with 18 L of water, 20 kg of animal waste, and 1 kg of urea. Thematic KKN students conveyed information about composting coffee husk waste to the Tapak Gedung village community through outreach, discussions and PowerPoint slide presentations. As a result, the compost that has been produced is distributed to village communities and applied to crops and agricultural land.

Effects of Near-Peer Motivational Interviewing Teaching on Greek Medical Students

BACKGROUND: Obesity presents as a significant and increasingly prevalent public health problem globally. Greece reported an adult obesity rate of 17% in 2016 (OECD) and a more alarming paediatric overweight/obesity rate of 1 in 3 children (WHO). However, weight management can be difficult to negotiate and implement successfully with patients. Previous studies have reported positive results when utilising Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques in these consultations. To ensure that healthcare systems are well-equipped to deal with increasing obesity rates, it is important to develop MI skills in medical students. Near-peer teaching has been reported as an effective method to improve student learning, and a gap in the literature exists regarding this type of teaching initiative for MI skills. AIM: To introduce and assess the effects of near-peer MI teaching, with the focus on weight management, on the knowledge and skills of medical students with limited previous exposure to the topic. To evaluate and compare how different methods of delivering near-peer teaching material between in-person and online sessions affect teaching efficacy. METHODS: An interactive seminar was delivered in English/Greek, both in-person and online, for Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) students in years 3-6 and year 6 respectively. Materials were adapted to the local context from curriculum and literature, and delivered by final year AUTh and KCL medical students based at AUTh. Each seminar consisted of a theoretical section and a practical section. First, a teaching sheet was handed out to the participants that accompanied a PowerPoint presentation. The latter included information on MI for the Overweight/Obese Population, as well as demonstration video clips on certain concepts. Following the presentation, participants were split into small groups to apply MI in a Role-Playing environment. Scenarios were handed out and practiced by two participants in each group, as well as Examiners’ checklists for the observers. This process was repeated three times with different scenarios and participants, and each turn was followed by a short discussion to provide feedback. Anonymous pre- and post-teaching evaluation surveys were also distributed and returned immediately before and after teaching with both cohorts. RESULTS: There were 88 total participants, with 10 in the in-person and 78 in the online cohort. A significant improvement (p<0.001) was seen for both in-person and online cohorts in 5-point Likert confidence ratings for using MI skills whilst consulting both simulated (95%CI, i-p[1.83,3.37];o[1.64,2.05]) and real (95%CI, i–p[1.71,3.09];o[1.56,2.00]) overweight/obese patients. The in-person cohort showed greater positive change across all question domains assessing confidence on session content compared to the online cohort, beginning with skills such as motivational interviewing. CONCLUSION: Near-peer education is an effective method to improve medical student confidence in MI skills, and suggests the potential success of a long-term student-led clinical communication skills course run alongside the core curriculum.

Rheumatoid arthritis knowledge gap and intervention in Nigeria study.

Family physicians are often the first healthcare providers to encounter patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in Nigeria, given the paucity of rheumatology services nationwide. This study aimed to assess and address the knowledge gap regarding RA among family physicians in Nigeria. A cross-sectional survey involving 609 family physicians from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria was conducted in October 2022. Pre-intervention questionnaires were administered to assess the participants' knowledge of RA. An investigator-led PowerPoint presentation on RA was then delivered as an intervention, followed by the same participants completing post-intervention questionnaires to evaluate knowledge improvement. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science, version 25. The mean age of participants was 42 ± 15 years, predominantly male (63.9%). The median pre-intervention knowledge score was 3.2 (IQR: 2.0-4.5), with 77.0% scoring <5. After the intervention, the median score significantly improved to 7.1 (IQR: 4.3-8.6) (p = .001), with 62.6% scoring >7. Significant improvements were observed in several knowledge areas where gaps existed pre-intervention, including the understanding that NSAIDs are not the mainstay of management (p < .001), the effectiveness of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate (p < .001), confidence in diagnosing RA (p = .016), the recognition of joint deformities as a characteristic feature (p < .001), and the understanding that rheumatoid factor is not definitive for diagnosis (p < .001). This study highlights the importance of interventions in closing the knowledge gap about RA diagnosis and management. We recommend the implementation of a comprehensive approach to rheumatology education and services by policymakers.

This metabolic disease occurs as a result of insufficient insulin secretion. Considering that every person has the right to have, to live a healthy, sustainable and prosperous life. The main target of this activity is the Lateri Village community. Socialization activities are carried out using 1 method, which is power point presentation of material. The specific objectives of implementing socialization to prevent diabetes with Tropicana Slim include increasing awareness of safe, healthy and sustainable living, as well as bringing positive changes in sustainable lifestyle behavior patterns by consuming Tropicana Slim products to stabilize sugar levels in the body.

This community service activity aims to introduce the Road&amp;Role Map Model for Community Empowerment Through Sustainable Islamic Boarding School Business Resilience Based on a Green Economy at the Daarul Uluum Islamic Boarding School, Jatinangor. At the Daarul Uluum Islamic boarding school in Jatinangor, this community service is carried out with the assistance of PAR. It consists of socialization, training, and assistance for teachers, students, and congregation members about community empowerment through sustainable Islamic boarding school business resilience based on a green economy. By utilizing Infocus and a projector, the material is presented in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. The results of the activities carried out on November 18 2023, found that teachers, students and congregations for community empowerment through sustainable Islamic boarding school business resilience based on a green economy at the Daarul Uluum Jatinangor Islamic boarding school were more enthusiastic and motivated to recognize the Road Map &amp; Role model for Islamic boarding school business resilience Sustainable Green Economy Based, further in its application and implementation in daily life, especially for the congregation at the Daarul Uluum Jatinangor Islamic Boarding School. Three-Dimensional Multimodality Image Reconstruction as Teaching Tool for Case-based learning among medical postgraduates: a focus on primary pelvic bone Tumour Education

BackgroundPostgraduate medical education in oncology orthopedics confronts obstacles when instructing on pelvic tumors, primarily due to their intricate anatomy and the limitations of conventional teaching techniques. The employment of Three-dimensional multimodality imaging (3DMMI) can be considered a valuable teaching tool, as it gracefully elucidates the intricacies of pelvic anatomical structures and the interactions between tumors and surrounding tissues through three-dimensional imaging, thereby providing a comprehensive and nuanced perspective. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of incorporating 3DMMI in combination with a Case-Based Learning (CBL) approach for postgraduate education.MethodsThe study encompassed a 10-week course involving 90 surgical postgraduates, focusing on common pelvic tumor diseases. Students were assigned representative clinical cases, and each group created a PowerPoint presentation based on these cases. The core educational content included fundamental knowledge of pelvic anatomy, as well as clinical presentations, radiological features, and treatment principles of common pelvic tumor diseases. The research compared two groups: a traditional CBL group (n = 45) and a 3DMMI-CBL group (n = 45). The 3DMMI-CBL group had access to advanced imaging technology for better visualization. Various evaluations, including image interpretation, theoretical knowledge, and questionnaires, were used to assess the learning outcomes.ResultsThe 3DMMI-CBL group outperformed the CBL group not only in the imaging diagnosis of common pelvic diseases but also in their mastery of the related theoretical knowledge. Student questionnaires indicated higher scores for the 3DMMI-CBL group in basic pelvic anatomy knowledge (8.08 vs. 6.62, p < 0.01), image interpretation (8.15 vs. 6.69, p < 0.01), learning efficiency (8.07 vs. 7.00, p < 0.01), clinical reasoning (7.57 vs. 6.77, p < 0.01), and learning interest (8.46 vs. 7.00, p < 0.01). Teacher questionnaires revealed that 3DMMI technology enhanced teachers’ clinical knowledge, facilitated instruction, and increased overall satisfaction and interest in teaching.ConclusionOur study introduced an enhancement to the conventional Case-Based Learning (CBL) model by incorporating 3DMMI technology for visualizing pelvic anatomy. In contrast to pure CBL, this adaptation improved teacher instruction, substantially heightened student engagement, ignited greater interest in learning, and boosted overall efficiency, ultimately leading to positive learning outcomes. Consequently, our study demonstrated the potential feasibility and acceptability of the 3DMMI-CBL teaching method for postgraduates in pelvic bone tumor education.

Evaluation of the Application Effect of Short Video Combined with BOPPPS Teaching Mode in Clinical Anesthesia Teaching

Objective: To study the application effect of short video combined with BOPPPS teaching mode in clinical anesthesia practice. Method: 48 students assigned to clinical anesthesia in digestive endoscopy of Shanxi Bethune Hospital from July 1, 2022 to April 1, 2023 were selected as research objects. They were randomly divided into the control group (PowerPoint presentation teaching group) and the observation group (short video combined with BOPPPS teaching group), with 24 students in each group. After the internship, the students’ theoretical and technical scores were tested, the effects of the two teaching modes were compared, and the students’ satisfaction was investigated. Results: The test scores of students in the observation group were significantly better than those in the control group (P &lt; 0.05). The short video combined with BOPPPS teaching mode can significantly improve students’ learning interest, operation skills, and memory (P &lt; 0.05). The students’ satisfaction in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P &lt; 0.05). Conclusion: In clinical practice, the application of short video combined with BOPPPS teaching mode has achieved great effect, which is worth further promotion and research.

Penyuluhan Penanganan Kedaruratan Gigi dan Mulut Terhadap Anak Usia Sekolah pada Orang Tua dan Guru SDI Al-Ikhlas Cipete - Jakarta Selatan

Dental emergency is associated with immediate measures that are carried out with the aim to alleviate pain. Dental trauma is one of dental emergencies, which is injury to the teeth and or the supporting tissues of the teeth. Dental injuries are often experienced by school-aged children, in which the majority of traumatic dental injuries occur at home or school, hence it is hoped that parents and school teachers can provide appropriate treatment when dental emergencies occur in children. This community service counseling aims to increase knowledge and skills in the management of dental emergencies. Counseling was carried out by the Trisakti University Faculty of Dentistry Team to parents and teachers of Al-Ikhlas Islamic Elementary School, Cipete, Jakarta Selatan on March 11, 2023. Counseling includes learning materials regarding the management of dental emergencies and dental health education through powerpoint presentation, video, and live demonstration. Final questionnaire shows an increase in knowledge and understanding regarding the management of dental emergencies. Therefore, it can be concluded that after the counseling activity, there is an increase in the level of knowledge among parents and teachers of Al-Ikhlas Islamic Elementary School regarding the management of dental emergencies. Further training is needed to improve the ability to handle dental emergencies better.

Perancangan Video Explainer Trans Jatim Menggunakan Power Point

This research aims to develop an explanatory video discussing the Trans Jawa Timur transportation system using Power Point software. The design approach includes combining visual, text and animation elements in Power Point to convey clear and interesting information about the East Java Trans. The author hopes that this explanatory video can be an effective communication tool to present and understand to the public the advantages and benefits of the Trans Jatim transportation system. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide guidelines for developing interactive and informative PowerPoint presentations for similar projects in the future.

Kreativitas Guru Dalam Penggunaan Media Power Point Pada Pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam Di SMPN 2 Koto Balingka Kabupaten Pasaman Barat

The purpose of this study was to learn how creative the PAI teachers at SMPN 2 Koto Balingka were when using the presentation software Power Point to engage their students who were less engaged in the learning process and more likely to experience frustration and boredom. And the pitfalls that teachers have to deal with while using Power Point. This study employed a descriptive quantitative methodology.Researchers play direct roles as planners, implementers, data collectors, data analysts, and report writers.Collecting information by means of observation, interviews, and written records.Information is gathered from interviews, documents, and libraries. This study's findings suggest that teachers can boost students' understanding of a subject by being creative with Power Point presentations. This can be done by providing clear explanations of the topic at hand, coming up with unique wording for slides, and showing relevant images. Teachers can become more innovative in their use of today's sophisticated technology by making use of Power Point presentations. Students can understand the material presented. The lack of an LCD projector, the disparity between student and teacher proficiency with the PowerPoint software, and the short amount of time available for its use are all factors that dampen teachers' inventiveness while using the program.

Abstract A053: Development and evaluation of a community-informed intervention to improve clinical trial knowledge and interest: Preliminary findings

Abstract Introduction: Nationally, racial and ethnic disparities in cancer clinical trial participation exist. Black Americans are underrepresented in cancer clinical trials, with approximately 9% of clinical trial participants in studies sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) identifying as Black. As part of work supported by the NCI’s National Outreach Network, we adapted educational materials provided by the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) for dissemination across KCI’s catchment area. Our study aimed to increase knowledge and interest in clinical trials with a focus on concerns salient among Black Americans. Methods: We adapted a CRCHD educational PowerPoint presentation to create Project FACCTs: Facts about Cancer Clinical Trials, a multicultural online video intervention. Adaptation included input from our cancer center’s longstanding Black American community stakeholders and collaborators. who shared a preference for video format versus PowerPoint presentation and recommended inclusion of a discussion of medical mistrust as well as information on clinical trial costs. Participants were recruited through KCI clinics and community partners. Assessments, provided by the CRCHD, included an 11-item measure of clinical trial knowledge (true/false) as well as 6-item measure of clinical trials interest and attitudes, including likelihood of future participation in a trial (strongly disagree to strongly agree). Assessments were administered as pre- and post-tests. Results: The majority of our 307 participants identified as Black American (59.3%), female (76.9%), college graduates (63.5%), and had health insurance from a former or current employer (49.8%). Overall, clinical trial knowledge was relatively high at both pre-test (mean=86.7% correct) and post-test (mean=87% correct) across the entire sample. A repeated measures ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference between Black and White participants on clinical trial knowledge from pre-test (Black: 84.5%; White: 94%) to post-test (Black: 85.4%; White: 93%) (F(1,2) =20.6, p=.01). Across the entire sample, a paired samples t-test showed that clinical trial interest increased after viewing Project FACCTs, (t (297)=-8.84, p=.01). A repeated measures ANOVA demonstrated that within groups there was statistically significant improvement in interest and attitudes towards participating in a clinical trial (F(1, 295) = 34.8 p=.01). Between groups, White participants had a higher overall score in clinical trial interest compared to Black participants (F(1, 2) =9.13, p=.01). Conclusions: Project FACCTs shows promise as a tool that can improve community members' knowledge, awareness, and interest in clinical trials. One limitation of the work reported here is that participants already had high clinical trials knowledge so the intervention’s effect on those with low knowledge is an area for future inquiry. How to Write Scholarly Articles in One English: The Importance of Being Consistent

Abstract This informative and educational article aims to provide helpful guidance for non-native writers who wish to enhance their academic writing skills. One of the most common mistakes in English writing is mixing British and American English. Consistency and accuracy are crucial to successful and effective writing, whether a research paper or just a short text for a PowerPoint presentation. Failure to address this issue often leaves a negative and unprofessional impression and can lead to errors, misunderstanding, or even rejection by editors of impacted journals. First, the article highlights the importance of English as a lingua franca. Then, in the main sections, it lists the most common differences between British and American English. The article also offers strategies for maintaining consistency in the use of English and, along, reminds readers of some general rules to follow.
