The outbreak of war in Ukraine and Western support for the Ukrainian state have brought up the role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in international politics, a subject debated in the press and media, in universities, in states, and in international organizations. In hasty assessments, the argument that emerges is that the war, particularly the Russian administration of Vladimir Putin, has given NATO a new reason of life, since it no longer had any reason to exist in the face of the defeat and dissolution of the USSR. Our aim in this article is therefore to demonstrate that NATO has always had a reason to exist in order to fulfill the function assigned to it by the Western powers: to eliminate politically and militarily obstacles to the expansion of Western capitalism. Because it is an international political and military organization linked to the capitalist powers led by the United States, with its smaller European partners, it is an organization whose dynamic is expansionist. So, our object is NATO in its founding treaty, institutional organization, strategic concepts, summit meetings, geopolitical expansion, partnerships, and military operations.

Populist orality in 21st Century latin american socialism: an analysis of political discourse

This article offers a review and reflection on the new forms of orality and transmission of speeches in the context of 21st Century Socialism. It is highlighted that politicians use language daily through speeches in order to convince the recipient of their point of view, which has generated new forms of political organization in South American countries. The analysis focuses on the importance of political language in creating meanings and in the main political maneuvers, as well as the competition of political actors for the favors of the people in the civic scene. The relevance of discourse theory in understanding social relations and their transformation is highlighted, as well as the influence of populism on society's perception of media systems and their relationship with the "powers that be”. Additionally, the use of political marketing, its impact on the persuasion and manipulation of public opinion, and the influence of ancient rhetoric on contemporary politics are addressed. The technological-cultural struggle between alternative ways of perceiving and arguing reality is mentioned, highlighting the importance of understanding discourse in its textual, situational, and social practice dimensions. The article offers a comprehensive vision of populist orality in the context of 21st Century Socialism, highlighting its influence on politics, society, and the perception of reality in Latin America.

Dynamics of Agricultural Development in Coastal Areas and Small Islands; Criticism of Human Resource Management in Local Government Organizations

Agricultural development must be the government's main focus to achieve comprehensive and serious economic development for society. The (Regional) Government as a public organization holding autonomous rights to determine policies to increase agricultural development must begin to prepare. What many experts have highlighted is the role of Regional Government in regional development in terms of human resources, namely the existence of a personnel system called bureaucracy. Every organization needs to develop human resources (HR) through improving performance to have abilities, skills, and positive attitudes to carry out their duties well. Experts and scholars say that three concepts among the many are highlighted in the aspect of bureaucratic resource management to improve employees' work, namely organizational justice, organizational politics, and work commitment. The research aims to determine and analyze the achievements of implementing agricultural development; and to know and analyze the respective relationships between organizational justice, organizational politics, and work commitment on employee performance in agricultural development. Use a quantitative approach to causality design. Take the case of Wakatobi Regency with its unique coastal areas and small islands. The sample was 225 employees or around 44% of the total sample of 514 people. The number of samples was determined by Slovin calculation and then taken at simple random. Primary data was obtained through distributing questionnaires, and secondary data from economic reports from authorized institutions. Data were analyzed using the SEM-AMOS approach. The results of the analysis found that development in Wakatobi Regency is supported by the agricultural and fisheries sectors. Its role is very dominant in GRDP, but it has not shown a direction that is in line with economic growth because it has experienced a decline. One of the aspects highlighted is that the performance of local governments in agricultural and fisheries development has not been optimal. The theoretical implication is that development performance analysis must use variables and indicators from empirical factual data (non-perception) through GRDP values and economic growth. Because, it has been proven that aspects of implementing human resource management through organizational politics and organizational justice have been proven to have a significant influence on performance, while work commitment is not yet significant. Practical implications for the government as a development policy formulator are to evaluate the development approaches that have been carried out, as well as regional leaders and leaders of regional apparatus implementing units (OPD) to pay attention to employee work commitment because our findings prove that their role is still weak in carrying out their duties and functions as ASN.

The VII World Congress of the Comintern 1935 led to a sharp change in the tactics and strategy of the international communist movement and to a transition from radical “class against class” tactics to the formation of broad united anti-fascist fronts. In the period 1935-1939, the policy of “popu-lar fronts,” which consisted of building political alliances be-tween left-wing parties and organizations to fight the right, was implemented in many countries. In Latin America, where this tactic was implemented even before the VII Congress of the Comintern, “popular fronts” became widespread, some-times playing a significant role in the history of their coun-tries. Historiography covers in detail the history of the estab-lishing of alliances in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Cuba, etc. How-ever, the history of the organization of the “popular front” in Peru is less covered, although this story is interesting in that it largely reflects the problems that faced the sections of the Comintern. An attempt to form a "popular front" in Peru in 1934-1935, primarily based on the creation of an alliance be-tween the Communist Party of Peru (the CPP) and the Ameri-can Popular Revolutionary Alliance (the APRA) to participate in the 1936 elections, failed. There were several reasons for this: from the personal hostility of the APRA leader V.R. Haya de la Torre to the leader of the CPP E. Ravines before the policy that the CPP implemented according to the direc-tives of the Comintern during the period of “class against class” tactics in 1930-1933.

Decentralization and Development: The Missing Link

Decentralization is a basic form of democratic government that transfer power, resources and empowers the local people as the decision makers for the local governing system. Since the inception in the Indian Constitution, decentralization was predicated to strengthen local political organizations, increase their democratic nature, and establish institutions that would cater to the interests and needs of the people. It envisages increasing local government institutions’ accountability and performance which would enhance development and transparency of governance at the grass root level. There are various theoretical benefits associated with decentralization, and already three decades have passed since the introduction of the 73rd and 74th Amendment Act in 1992. However, in many instances, realizing these idealistic decentralization goals has proven to be extremely difficult. The study therefore seeks to examine if decentralization is improving service delivery at the local level as envisioned. Although, efforts were made to facilitate effective and accountable local governance, various factors have hindered decentralization to fully achieve its objectives. The study attempts to identify the ‘missing link’ which has hampered the efficacy of decentralized government in India.

“Home” as a Theological Problem for Politics: Weil, Arendt, and the Common Desire for the Common

ABSTRACTThis article engages the global displacement crisis by rendering the concept of ‘home’ as a theological problem for politics, linking contemporary geopolitical conflict to broader issues of forced migration. For help, we engage Simone Weil's theopolitical critique of domination‐based political organising, Hannah Arendt's insights into the texture of political space and belonging, and Jodi Dean's concept of a ‘collective desire for collectivity’ to propose a lateral, connective politics of home that secures local communities while also fostering global connection. Our constructive theological proposal is that the power of love for home entails the embrace of neighbour (near and far) that moves beyond the usual options of liberal cosmopolitanism, communitarian localism, and the Realpolitik of geopolitical alliances. By reconsidering and intensifying the Christian concept of neighbour‐love and linking it to the common reality of displacement and the common longing for home, we take the first steps towards illuming and unveiling a political theology of home that is neither preferential nor naively inclusive.

Articulating a model to enhance the effect of e-HRM on sustainable competitive advantage

Purpose: This paper articulates a model that maximizes the use of e-HRM to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. It examines the indirect effects of e-HRM use on sustainable competitive advantage, through job satisfaction, employee performance, and perceived organizational politics. Design/methodology/approach: A survey approach was used to collect data from 30 organizations. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the study sample. The SPSS PROCESS Macro for running mediation analysis was used to analyze data. Findings: The findings show the indirect effect of e-HRM on sustainable competitive advantage through job satisfaction, employee performance, and perceived organizational politics. Job satisfaction has the biggest effect on achieving strategic outcomes. For organizational excellence, e-HRM use should complement other HRM practices. Practical implications: Management should pay attention to employee outcomes during the implementation of e-HRM. This study broadens the scope of the interaction between e-HRM use and sustainable competitive advantage. This study was conducted in a developing economy and demonstrated that the effects of e-HRM use on sustainable competitive advantage are not limited to developed economies. Originality/value: This study is one of the pioneering efforts to develop a model that maximizes organizational outcomes in developing countries. In addition, this study contributes to the understanding of intervening variables necessary to enhance information technology’s potential within the HR function.

Pentingnya Perencanaan Sumber Daya Manusia Dalam Sebuah Organisasi

Human resource planning is the first thing an organization or company must do when the company seeks better human resource management. All organizations or companies must determine their future with various different plans following current developments. Currently, changes are occurring quite rapidly, so organizations or companies must be able to keep up with the changes that are occurring quickly and precisely. Organizations or companies must be able to anticipate and adapt to change. Therefore, personnel planning is becoming increasingly important for companies, because the era of globalization, new technologies and organizational change processes overshadow organizational life repeatedly. An organization that is not supported by employees with good quantity, quality, strategy and function, of course the organization will find it difficult to maintain and develop its existence in the future, so that personal planning is successful. Human resource (HR) planning plays a crucial role in organizational success by ensuring the continuity of efficient and effective operations. In the context of globalization and rapid change, HR planning is becoming increasingly important to identify the need for quality and visionary human resources. The unique characteristics of an organization are also a focus in this abstract, where a unique business strategy can become a competitive advantage that is difficult for competitors to imitate. Evaluation of employee performance based on industry principles and the influence of organizational politics as well as a poor evaluation system on employees are also highlighted in this abstract. By understanding the critical challenges facing organizations, including in the context of globalization, HR planning can help organizations to strengthen their position in global competition and face change more adaptively.

The Experience of Suspension among Political Identities; Kurdish Nationality and Aspiration for Kurdistani Citizenship among Kurdish Immigrants in Western Europe

AbstractThe conflict between the Perso‐Shiite state and its opposition, especially Kurdish political organizations in Iran/Eastern Kurdistan, and their subsequent suppression, has led to the migration of many Kurds since the early 1980s. This exodus has affected their political identification. Here, changes toward nationality and citizenship in the attitude of the first‐generation Kurdish immigrants with a leftist political background living in Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and France will be analyzed. From the perspective of the relationship between individual and political organization, state and society/community, it seeks to uncover that how these migrants think about different collective political identities, how their views have changed, and which collective social identity has had most impact on shaping their political view. Following a qualitative approach, data were collected through in‐depth semi‐structured and focus group interviews. The findings show that the interviewees within the extra‐organizational Kurdish convergence in Europe have tried to reidentify themselves politically by moving away from the political climate of Iran, while Kurdishness shapes their view on nationality and citizenship. Although the European states officially recognize them as Iranian nationals, they themselves see this as an imposed citizenship. In their current situation, many of them, while emphasizing their Kurdish nationality and wishing for Kurdistani citizenship, prefer to be recognized only as citizens of European countries and not be attributed to Iran.

Struggle and health. Sociability and literacy in the “150 hours” courses in Turin

Throughout the years of the reforms, Turin’s political and trade union organizations succeeded in collecting and combining the requests coming from people’s workplace and everyday’s life to develop new models of social governance of schools and social services. All this was realized by reversing the responses given to social discomfort and suffering through a re-appropriation of spaces and a growing participation of citizens in all the social choices. This contribution aims at reconstructing the initiatives and experience of the courses of the so-called “150 hours school” in the years 1974-1978: in this period, the training on prevention on women’s health was carried out in middle schools and in university seminars, and it was open to male and female workers. These training started a process of awareness, active citizenship and representation that – from the collegial bodies of the schools to the newly born local councils, up to the factory councils – brought into question and “in motion” parents, school staff and new residents and workers.

Definition, detection, and tracking of nanowaste in foods: Challenges and perspectives.

Commercial applications of nanotechnology in the food industry are rapidly increasing. Accordingly, there is a simultaneous increase in the amount and diversity of nanowaste, which arise as byproducts in the production, use, disposal, or recycling processes of nanomaterials utilized in the food industry. The potential risks of this nanowaste to human health and the environment are alarming. It is of crucial significance to establish analytical methods and monitoring systems for nanowaste to ensure food safety. This review provides comprehensive information on nanowaste in foods as well as comparative material on existing and new analytical methods for the detection of nanowaste. The article is specifically focused on nanowaste in food systems. Moreover, the current techniques, challenges as well as potential use of new and progressive methods are underlined, further highlighting advances in technology, collaborative efforts, as well as future perspectives for effective nanowaste detection and tracking. Such detection and tracking of nanowaste are required in order to effectively manage this type ofwasted in foods. Although there are devices that utilize spectroscopy, spectrometry, microscopy/imaging, chromatography, separation/fractionation, light scattering, diffraction, optical, adsorption, diffusion, and centrifugation methods for this purpose, there are challenges to be overcome in relation to nanowaste as well as food matrix and method characteristics. New technologies such as radio-frequency identification, Internet of things, blockchain, data analytics, and machine learning are promising. However, the cooperation of international organizations, food sector, research, and political organizations is needed for effectively managing nanowaste. Future research efforts should be focused on addressing knowledge gaps and potential strategies for optimizing nanowaste detection and tracking processes.

Отношение российского общества к Отдельному корпусу жандармов в начале XX века

The political police have always been viewed ambiguously by society. In the early XX century, the Russian Empire’s primary political police organization was the Special Gendarme Corps. Society held a largely negative view of this organization. Cultural figures depicted gendarme officers as rough and cruel suppressors of free thought, as stern guardians of autocracy. This article attempts to ascertain whether this perception was deserved. A comparison is drawn between the Special Gendarme Corps and another political police institution, Secret Police Department. An assessment is provided of the moral and ethical qualities of the gendarmes, their activities, and their relations with broad segments of society. The specifics of the selection process for candidates entering the corps and the content of their training are described. Memories of gendarme officers regarding their work, specific episodes of detective work, and interactions with revolutionaries are recounted. Also, an attempt is being made to find out whether they could change this attitude, and whether they could preserve the Russian monarchy entrusted to them.

The struggle for women’s suffrage: The case of the magazine ‘Leskovački Glasnik in 1927 and 1928

The paper starts from the following research questions: “How did the media present women’s issues and women’s struggle for the right to vote in Leskovac?” and “How did the newspapers participate in building public opinion?” Qualitative content analysis was used in the paper, and the unit of analysis is the newspaper texts of the weekly “Leskovački glasnik” from 1927 and 1928. In 1927, out of a total of fifty-two issues, only three texts dealt with the topic of women’s issues, and the analysis included two, one in sequels, which concern exclusively women’s political organization, while in 1928 there were three texts, one in sequels, dedicated to the same problem and all included in the content analysis. From the point of view of the subject of interest of this research, we can conclude that most of the texts of the weekly “Leskovački glasnik” in the 1920s dedicated to the women’s struggle for the right to vote are emotionally colored: regardless of being supported by historical facts and giving practical reasons, the authors of the newspaper texts represent the opinion of the majority of the public that family and home are the priority duties of a woman, thereby participating in the worldwar propaganda’s aspiration to “keep” a woman within the domain of the private.

Identifikasi faktor kontrak psikologis, organisasi politik dan komitmen organisasi terhadap kinerja karyawan manufaktur PT ZYX

The essence of this research is to examine the influence of organizational commitment, organizational politics, and psychological contracts on employee performance. On the basis of this research, the survey sample was taken from employees in the production department of PT ZYX. The population and sample of this research are employees in the After Sales division of PT. ZYX, with a total of 100 respondents. The analytical method used in this case is white`s Robust standard error regression analysis and the data used is primary data obtained from questionnaires distributed to all employees. Based on the research results, it shows that the psychological contract and organizational commitment have a significant effect on employee performance, while organizational politics have an insignificant effect. If viewed simultaneously, all independent variables (contract, psychology, organizational commitment and organizational politics) have a significant influence on employee performance.

Changing Political Identities of the Iranian Kurdish Left in Europe

Abstract This article examines the tendency towards political individualism and its impact among first-generation political immigrants with a leftist political background from Iran/Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhelat) living in Western Europe, from the perspective of individuals’ political identity in terms of relations with political organizations and their ideological stance. Following a qualitative approach, data was collected through semi-structured in-depth and focus group interviews with members and ex-members of political parties. The findings show that, as a result of leaving Iran’s political climate as well as Kurdish political organizations, and with the influence of a new political culture, many interviewees have adopted individualized politics based on their own opinions and self-interest. The immigrants have found a multi-dimensional political view that simultaneously pays attention to the ethno-national, class, and gender issues of Kurdish society.

Dark triad and knowledge hiding in firms: Mediating role of perceived organizational politics

Negative behaviors at the workplace always disturb the management of the firms. This research investigates the link between the dark triad and various types of Knowledge hiding (Evasive hiding, Playing dumb, and Rationalized hiding) in firms. In addition, this study explores perceived organizational politics as a mediator. The design of this study is quantitative and positivist. The data were collected in three waves (45 days gap) with a random sampling approach from 383 personnel/staff working in Chinese commercial banking firms. The data were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique and Smartpls-4 software. This study confirms that dark-triad has a positive relation with knowledge hiding, except psychopathy and Machiavellianism, which have no significant correlation with playing dumb and evasive hiding, respectively. Perceived organizational politics significantly mediate the association between dark triad personality traits and the types of knowledge hiding. Employees with political skills and a trust-based culture can counter the dark-triad personalities and discourage the knowledge-hiding culture. For effective management of knowledge-hiding issues in firms, codifying implicit and explicit Knowledge and developing knowledge repositories can discourage a knowledge-hiding culture.

Perceived organizational politics and employee voice: the role of affect and supervisor political support

PurposeAdopting an affective events perspective, our study investigates the relationship between perceived organizational politics (POP) and employee voice by exploring the mediating role of affect and the moderating role of supervisor political support.Design/methodology/approachThe hypothesized model was tested with three-wave data collected from 393 full-time employees.FindingsResults indicate that POP indirectly impacts employee voice through influencing positive and negative affect, and that supervisor political support moderates these indirect effects by moderating the relationship between POP and affective states.Research limitations/implicationsSurvey data can hardly test the causal relationship. Effect of employees' POP could be further examined in the lens subjective positive experiences. Organizational politics might have positive meanings.Practical implicationsOur findings show that POP brings employees negative feelings and reduces their voice behaviors while supervisor political support can mitigate this inhibiting effect. Therefore, managers should learn how to use political behavior more reasonably in highly political work environment.Originality/valueBy highlighting the possibility that employees can be beneficiaries having a vested interest in political environment and investigating the unexplored affective explanatory mechanisms underlying the POP–voice relationship, this study provides new directions for future research on POP and employee voice.

Leadership in the digital era: Exploring the nexus between leadership styles and job satisfaction. The mediating role of perceived organizational politics in Jordanian insurance companies

The study intends to determine how leadership techniques adjusted to the trends impact employee job satisfaction, considering the mediating influence of perceived organizational politics in light of the expanding influence of digital technology and virtual work settings. The study included a solid sample of 300 workers from different parts of Jordan. The employees filled out the questionnaire anonymously. 5-point rating Likert scales were used to capture a range of viewpoints. Using the Partial Least Squares software, this study applies Structural Equation Modelling analysis to examine the relationships between job satisfaction, perceived organizational politics, and leadership styles in Jordanian insurance companies. The study focuses on all employees of insurance companies in Jordan, including people working at various administrative levels. The most common length of job tenure was between one and five years (38.67%). Initial results show a strong beneficial relationship between transformational leadership philosophies and contentment at work (β = 0. 378, t = 6.266, LL = 0.483, UL = 0.718, p < 0.001). Similarly, transformational leadership had the highest standardized effect on perceived organizational politics with a coefficient of 0.443. Furthermore, the complex processes by which leadership philosophies tangentially affect job satisfaction levels are revealed by the role of mediation of perceived organizational politics.

Perceptions of organizational politics and organizational commitment: role of personal motive and ability

PurposeThis study expanded previous studies on the relationship between POP (Perceptions of Organizational Politics) and OC (Organizational Commitment); and it examined the mediating effect of OCM (Organizational Concern Motive) and the moderated mediating effect of PS (Political Skills). Based on the uncertainty management and expectancy theories, the mediating role of OCM was assumed; also, the moderated mediating effect of PS was assumed, because of the effect of the POP on members' motives would vary depending on each individual's ability to respond.Design/methodology/approachTo collect the required data for analyzing the research model of this study, a questionnaire was conducted on employees of South Korean companies and institutions. To verify the hypothesis of this study, the measurement and hypothesized models were analyzed sequentially.FindingsThe results of this study indicated that the OCM mediates the relationship between POP and OC. Furthermore, the mediating effect of OCM is moderated by PS. Specifically the negative effect of the POP on the OCM was mitigated in the group with proficient PS.Research limitations/implicationsTo mitigate the negative effects of POP, this study suggests that managers should provide fair evaluation and reward based on performance, and consider PS as an important factor in employee selection and education/training.Originality/valueThis study is original in that it presents the mechanisms of both variables in terms of an individual's motive towards the organization. Furthermore, this study is valuable in that it suggests ways to mitigate the negative effects of POP through PS.
