Achieving smooth motion in displacement amplification piezoelectric stick-slip actuator.

Traditional piezoelectric stick-slip actuators often suffer from significant backward motion phenomena, which greatly impact their output performance. To overcome this issue, a novel displacement amplification piezoelectric stick-slip actuator was meticulously designed. It integrates an L-shaped displacement amplification mechanism with a parallelogram-compliant mechanism. By dynamically adjusting the compressive force between the stator and the mover, this actuator effectively increases the single-step displacement, resulting in smooth and stable motion output. The design process involved thorough structural feasibility validation and core dimension optimization, utilizing Castigliano's second theorem and finite element simulation analysis. These efforts successfully yielded a substantial increase in the single-step output displacement. Experimental results demonstrate the actuator's capability to achieve smooth and stable motion output, even under challenging conditions, such as symmetric excitation signals and horizontal loading. Under specific operating parameters-preloading force of 3 N, input voltage of 100VP-P, and driving frequency of 625Hz sinusoidal excitation signal, the actuator achieves an impressive maximum driving speed of 25.22 mm/s, with a substantial maximum load capacity of 2.1 N. Compared to previous studies, the designed actuator exhibits superior adaptability to various excitation signals, offering significant potential for enhancing the performance and expanding the applications of piezoelectric stick-slip actuators.

Enhancing aircraft crack repair efficiency through novel optimization of piezoelectric actuator parameters: A design of experiments and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system approach

This study addressed the critical problem of repairing cracks in aging aircraft structures, a safety concern of paramount importance given the extended service life of modern fleets. Utilized a finite element (FE) method enhanced by the design of experiments (DOE) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) approaches to analyze the efficacy of piezoelectric actuators in mitigating stress intensity factors (SIF) at crack tips—a novel integration in structural repair strategies. Through simulations, we examined the impact of various factors on the repair process, including the plate, actuator, and adhesive bond size and characteristics. In this work, initially, the SIF estimation used the FE approach at crack tips in aluminum 2024-T3 plate under the uniform uniaxial tensile load. Next, numerous simulations have been performed by changing the parameters and their levels to collect the data information for the analysis of the DOE and ANFIS approach. The FE simulation results have shown that changing the parameters and their levels will result in changing of SIF. Several DOE and ANFIS optimization cases have been performed for the depth analysis of parameters. The current results indicated that optimal placement, size, and voltage applied to the piezoelectric actuators are crucial for maximizing crack repair efficiency, with the ability to significantly reduce the SIF by a quantified percentage under specific conditions. This research surpasses previous efforts by providing a comprehensive parameter optimization of piezoelectric actuator application, offering a methodologically advanced and practically relevant pathway to enhance aircraft structural integrity and maintenance practices. The study innovation lies in its methodological fusion, which holistically examines the parameters influencing SIF reduction in aircraft crack repair, marking a significant leap in applying intelligent materials in aerospace engineering.

Effect of variable amplitude superimposed wave on piezoelectric actuator performance and experimental performance analysis

In order to bridge the gap between the effects of superposition of unequal amplitude waves on superimposed waves, this paper investigates the effects of variable amplitude superimposed waves on piezoelectric actuators. The generation mechanism of traveling waves is explored from the principle of superposition of waves. A mathematical model of the piezoelectric beam is established based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the Lagrange equation. It is the first time that the effects of variable amplitude superimposed waves on motion performance are investigated from both theoretical and experimental perspectives. The effects of variable amplitude waves on kinematic performance are tested by changing different excitation frequencies, different positions and different loadings. The relationship between the amplitude ratio A and the motion performance is given. It is shown that there is an approximately linear negative correlation between the amplitude ratio and the motion performance when the amplitude ratio A = 1–2.4. This study provides a new idea for the generation of traveling waves and provides a reference for the design and application of piezoelectric actuators.

Diagnostics of Piezoelectric Bending Actuators Subjected to Varying Operating Conditions

In applications of piezoelectric actuators and sensors, the dependability and particularly the reliability throughout their lifetime are vital to manufacturers and end-users and are enabled through condition-monitoring approaches. Existing approaches often utilize impedance measurements over a range of frequencies or velocity measurements and require additional equipment or sensors, such as a laser Doppler vibrometer. Furthermore, the non-negligible effects of varying operating conditions are often unconsidered. To minimize the need for additional sensors while maintaining the dependability of piezoelectric bending actuators irrespective of varying operating conditions, an online diagnostics approach is proposed. To this end, time- and frequency-domain features are extracted from monitored current signals to reflect hairline crack development in bending actuators. For validation of applicability, the presented analysis method was evaluated on piezoelectric bending actuators subjected to accelerated lifetime tests at varying voltage amplitudes and under external damping conditions. In the presence of a crack and due to a diminished stiffness, the resonance frequency decreases and the root-mean-square amplitude of the current signal simultaneously abruptly drops during the lifetime tests. Furthermore, the piezoelectric crack surfaces clapping is reflected in higher harmonics of the current signal. Thus, time-domain features and harmonics of the current signals are sufficient to diagnose hairline cracks in the actuators.

Simulation of active vibration control of a moving stage

Active vibration control (AVC) has gained considerable interest due to its inherent adaptability and cost-effectiveness, with its ability to suppress vibrations in the controlled system across various applications. Existing studies focus on the AVC of non-moving systems and usually assume that the vibration signal to be controlled is known and can serve as the ideal reference signal in feedforward control systems. However, in many practical applications, the ideal reference signal is not accessible, and a sensor must be used to detect the reference signal. This can degrade the AVC performance, especially for a moving system. This study, therefore, aims to explore the potential application of piezoelectric stack actuators (PSA) to control the vibration of a moving stage driven by a stepper motor. The secondary path was estimated offline, and vibration data were collected at different moving speeds. The effects of the location of the reference sensor were initially investigated. Then, extensive simulations were conducted to evaluate the performance of different adaptive control algorithms regarding vibration reduction, convergence speed, computational complexities, etc. This research underlines the potential of integrating PSA within a moving system to effectively control its vibration.

Development of a 3-DOF rotary piezoelectric actuator with compact structure

Piezoelectric actuators have been widely applied in precision electromechanical equipment due to their high resolution, fast response, and flexible structure. However, existing rotary piezoelectric actuators still face the contradiction between the structure miniaturization and the multi degrees of freedom (MDOF) motion output. Therefore, a novel rotary piezoelectric actuator is developed to achieve characteristics of compact structure and 3-DOF motions in this study, in which an orthogonal axis support system for a spherical rotor is adopted. And a stick-slip combined direct excitation scheme is designed to obtain large working range and microradian-resolution outputs. The configuration and motion principle are designed and illustrated in detail. The statics model is established for structural optimization design and parameters determination. The actuator prototype is fabricated and tested, a compact structure is achieved with an overall size of 72 mm in diameter and 80 mm in height. 3-DOF full circle rotary motion outputs around axes X, Y and Z are achieved, the corresponding maximum rotary speeds are 0.423, 0.438, and 0.975 rad/s, and the corresponding resolutions are 4.14, 4.28 and 2.32 μrad, respectively. Moreover, the prototype has successfully completed the imaging application of multi objects in large working range. The experimental results preliminarily demonstrate the potential application of the 3-DOF rotary piezoelectric actuator in the field requiring large working range and microradian-resolution.

A bipedal cooperative drive method for the stick-slip piezoelectric actuator to achieve smooth motion.

Existing kinds of stepping piezoelectric actuators have difficulty in maintaining smooth stepping characteristics in motion, especially with applied loads, because they are limited by their driving principle and structural design. However, non-smooth stepping characteristics not only reduce the output performance of piezoelectric actuators but also greatly limit the applications of piezoelectric actuators. In this paper, a bipedal cooperative drive method for the stick-slip actuator is proposed to improve stepping characteristics and achieve smooth motion under different conditions. Two flexible driving feetalternately push the rotor to rotate clockwise. Experimental results show that the stepping characteristics vary with the driving voltage, and the displacement curve transitions from non-smooth to smooth to sudden jump as the driving voltage rises. Furthermore, the displacement curves can maintain good smoothness within a horizontal load range of 20-30g. The maximum angular speed of the designed actuator is 1452 mrad/s when the driving voltage and driving frequency are 100V and 1400Hz, respectively. These features help broaden the practical application of actuators.

Design and development of a new lead-free BiFeO3-BaTiO3 quenched ceramics for high piezoelectric strain performance

Designing a new high-performance lead-free ceramic has become a cutting-edge research topic due to growing concerns about the toxic nature of lead-based materials. In this work, a convenient strategy of compositional design and domain engineering is applied to the lead-fee BiFeO3-BaTiO3 ceramics which provides a flexible polarization free-energy profile for domain switching. Here, simultaneously enhanced dynamic piezoelectric constant (d33* ≈ 772 pm/V) and a good thermal-stability (Δd33* ≈ 26% over the temperature of 20–180 °C) are achieved with a high Curie temperature (TC) of 432 °C. This high piezoelectric strain performance is collectively attributed to multiple effects such as thermal quenching, suppression of defect charges by donor doping, chemically induced local structure heterogeneity, and electric field-induced phase transition. Furthermore, the addition of BT content decreased octahedral tilting that reduce anisotropy for domain switching and increased in tetragonality (cT/aT) providing a wider polar length for B-site cation displacement, leading to high piezoelectric strain performance. Atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy and piezoelectric force microscopy combined with X-ray diffraction results strongly support the origin of high piezoelectricity. The high and temperature-stable piezoelectric strain response of this work is superior to those of other lead-free ceramics. The synergistic approach of composition design and the concept present here for the origin of high strain response provides a paradigm for the development of new materials for high-temperature piezoelectric actuator applications.

A Resonant-Type Thin Plate Piezoelectric Actuator Inspired by Koala's Locomotion

Imitating the behavioral traits or structures of biological organisms can provide new ideas and operating principles for designing micro actuators. Inspired by the locomotion of koalas, a lightweight self-locomotion piezoelectric actuator (SLPA) is developed. Based on the hybrid of the longitudinal and bending vibration modes, the proposed SLPA is able to obtain linear locomotion. The configuration of the SLPA is designed based on a thin metal plate with miniature size of 19.5×19.5×1.1mm <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</sup> . The operating principle is verified through the finite element analysis (FEA) simulation. The experimental results show that the prototype achieves maximum speed of 61.68 mm/s and slope angle of 20° when the excitation frequency and voltage are 19.75 kHz and 50 V <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">p-p</sub> , which demonstrates the validity of the proposed SLPA climbing on slopes and the effectiveness of the proposed operating principle. Furthermore, the step displacement resolution of 2.2 μm is obtained by the proposed SLPA under the resonant working state. Finally, a simple optical focusing system is established to verify the feasibility of potential application of micro piezoelectric actuator.

Excellent strain properties in (K,Na)NbO3-based piezoceramics induced by lamination composite strategy

To reconcile the contradiction between piezoelectric property and its temperature stability, the preparation of composite piezoceramics using multiple components has become an emerging direction. Herein, (K,Na)NbO3-based piezoceramics are adopted to prepare high-performance laminated composite ceramics inspired by the lamination composite strategy, and sintered in the reducing atmosphere to meet the development of multilayer piezoelectric actuators with base metal internal electrodes. By adjusting the composition ratio, a high inverse piezoelectric coefficient d33* of 1065 pm/V (@ 2 kV/mm) is obtained in the two-component composite ceramics, which fluctuated less than ± 6% in the range of 25–160 °C. In the three-component composite ceramics, a higher d33* value of 1326 pm/V (@ 2 kV/mm) is achieved and maintained > 90% until 150 °C. The electric-field-induced strain performances of laminated composite ceramics significantly exceed those of their basic components, which is related to the piezoresponse gain provided by the internal interfaces. The excellent temperature stabilities come from the more diffused phase transition temperature range formed by the complementation of multiple components. The combination of ultrahigh strain performance, high temperature stability, and good fatigue resistance, together with sintering in the reducing atmosphere, constitutes an important step to promote the application of (K,Na)NbO3-based multilayer piezoelectric actuators.

A Bionic Type Piezoelectric Actuator Based on Walking Motion and Asymmetrical L-Shaped Flexure Mechanisms

A bionic type piezoelectric actuator based on the walking motion of L-shaped flexure mechanisms has been proposed. By mimicking the walking motion of “human legs,” the proposed actuator is able to not only eliminate the backward motion to improve the motion efficiency, but also achieve the large working stroke with high output load easily. The special L-shaped flexure mechanism is employed as the “leg,” and the bionic walking motion is realized by applying two L-shaped flexure mechanisms alternately. The driving principle of the proposed piezoelectric actuator is discussed in detail, and the simulation is carried out to study the feasibility. An experimental system has been set up to investigate the actual working performance. According to the experimental results, the suitable phase difference between the two L-shaped flexure mechanisms to eliminate the backward motion is around <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">θ</i> = 5°, the maximum speed is <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">V</i> = 1887.3 <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">μ</i> m/s, the minimum stepping distance is 0.084 <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">μ</i> m, and the maximum load is more than <italic xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">F_v</i> = 1100 g. The motion speed and the maximum load under the proposed bionic walking motion (two flexure mechanisms work together as “legs”) could be improved greatly for almost 3.7 and 1.7 times, respectively, compared with that of the traditional friction–inertial motion (only one flexure mechanism works). By eliminating the backward motion, the motion efficiency is improved about 52.9% under the condition of 120 V and 1 Hz. This article shows the feasibility of applying the bionic motion to improve the performance of piezoelectric actuators, which may be instructive for the design of piezoelectric actuators with large working stroke. In the future, it may be helpful for the real application of piezoelectric actuators in the fields of ultraprecision machining, optical engineering, and aerospace technology.

A parasitic-inertia piezoelectric actuator with isosceles trapezoidal flexible mechanism base on parasitic motion exploration and asymmetrical installation

Parasitic-inertia piezoelectric actuators have been widely studied for their ability to achieve both high positioning accuracy and large working strokes. However, backward motion results in parasitic-inertia piezoelectric actuators with the disadvantages of low efficiency and abrasion of driving foot. In this study, a parasitic-inertia piezoelectric actuator with an isosceles trapezoidal flexible mechanism is diegned and optimized to reduce backward motion considering the influence of parasitic motion proportion. It applies the asymmetrical installation of the piezoelectric stack to increase parasitic motion hence the reducing of backward motion. This study discusses the structure and working process of piezoelectric actuators and optimizes the design of flexible mechanism structure parameters with matrix displacement method and finite element method. A prototype of an parasitic-inertia piezoelectric actuator was manufactured, and a series of experiments were conducted. From the experiment, the piezoelectric actuator obtained a minimum backward motion percentage α = 18.36% and forward motion time percentage β = 95.9% at the frequency f = 1 Hz and the voltage U = 80 V. At U = 120 V, f = 500 Hz, the maximum motion speed of the actuator is 916 μm s−1; At U = 20 V and f = 1 Hz, the minimum positioning resolution of the actuator is 0.69 μm. At U = 120 V, f = 1 Hz, the maximum vertical load force is 1600 g, and the maximum parallel load force is 50 g. It has shown that the proposed isosceles trapezoidal flexible mechanism is feasible and can significantly reduce backward motion at the appropriate voltage. The mentioned characteristics of isosceles trapezoidal flexible mechanism can significantly alleviate the abrasion of driving foot, improve working efficiency. Also, it is vital for the miniaturization and practical application of parasitic-inertia piezoelectric actuators.

Enhancement of Piezoelectricity by Novel Poling Method of the Rare‐Earth Modified BiFeO3–BaTiO3 Lead‐Free Ceramics

AbstractIn piezoceramics, the Curie temperature (TC) and piezoelectric coefficient (d33) are often inversely proportional, so it is very difficult to optimize high piezoelectricity and TC simultaneously. In addition, the high and temperature‐insensitive piezoelectric strain coefficient (d33*) with small hysteresis is also a longstanding obstacle in the development of lead‐free ceramics. In this work, a facile approach of donor doping strategy is adopted to replace Ba2+ with Yb3+, Y3+, Sm3+, and Nd3+ as a result, a high TC of 450 °C and outstanding d33 of 422–436 pC N−1 is achieved by a novel magnetic poling method. Thermally‐stable and outstanding piezoelectric strain performance (d33* ≈ 520–550 pm V−1 and ΔST ≈ 10%) with small strain hysteresis (H &lt; 20%) results are highly encourageable in lead‐free ceramics. The main factors contributing to high piezoelectricity are the morphotropic phase boundary, suppression of defect charges by donor doping, thermal quenching, mesoscale nanodomain size, and novel poling method. The excellent piezoelectric performance and high TC of this work are superior to those of state‐of‐the‐art piezoceramics. The synergistic approaches of compositional design strategy and novel poling process in this work are highly beneficial for temperature‐insensitive piezoelectric sensor and actuator applications.

Review of Piezoelectric Actuator Applications in Damaged Structures: Challenges and Opportunities.

Piezoelectric material transducers can work as an actuator or sensor. Generally, the actuator will be used to repair the structure, and the sensor will be used to find the health condition. In the last two decades, piezoelectric actuators have shown the capacity to lower and control the shear stress concentration and joint edge peel in adhesively bonded joint systems. Hence, this paper aims at reviewing the application of piezoelectric actuators in damaged structures and adhesively bonded combined systems based on three different repair investigation methods: analytical, numerical, and experimental. Moreover, the study also explores the delamination control of composite material beams and some other studies using a piezoelectric actuator. The specific aim of this work is to determine scientific challenges and future opportunities for considering piezoelectric materials in damaged structure investigations for novice researchers.

Piezoelectric hybrid actuation mode to improve speeds in cross-scale micromanipulations

Piezoelectric precision actuators are powerful tools used to explore and reform the microworld. A large number of achievements have emerged to promote their progress. However, most of them only focus on high accuracies and large workspaces, but ignore the roles of fast speeds for high working efficiencies and wide application fields. Inspired by the wobbling and jumping gaits of the cricket, a hybrid actuation mode for piezoelectric actuators is proposed to improve speeds in cross-scale micromanipulations. After solving three key problems of physical design, operation method and control strategy, this idea is verified with FEM simulations and theoretical models. The experiments indicate that the hybrid mode increases the speed by about 300% over the conventional walking mode, and the maximum speed reaches about 3.9 mm/s (0.16 rad/s). Furthermore, the resolution is as high as 3.8 nm (0.14 μrad), and the RMS positioning error is smaller than 34.2 nm in a stroke of 1 mm. With unlimited stroke, fast speed and high precision, the hybrid mode is very suitable for the accurate quick positioning in a large range. The experiment also demonstrates great potential applications in micro-nano assemblies. To sum up, the hybrid mode significantly improves the speeds of piezoelectric actuators under the premises of high accuracies and large workspaces. Besides, this mode is a universal approach, which can be easily applied on other actuators to improve speeds, so it is helpful to expand applications of piezoelectric precision actuators.

Hysteresis Segmentation Modeling and Experiment of Piezoelectric Ceramic Actuator

Piezoelectric ceramics have been widely used in ultraprecision displacement drive systems because of their excellent performance such as fast response and high positioning accuracy. However, its tracking control accuracy is limited by its inherent hysteresis nonlinearity. To date, the parameter identification of the hysteresis model that has been developed is complex. This situation has resulted in the difficulty for the model to be used in the real-time control system of piezoelectric ceramic actuators. This article proposed a new mathematical model that can accurately describe hysteresis nonlinearity. The hysteresis main loop in the model is approximated using high-order rational fractions. The hysteresis segmentation model is completed through the recursive algorithm. Simulation and experimental results show that the hysteresis characteristics between the input voltages and output displacements have been clearly modeled. This segmentation modeling process is simple. In addition, the computation is low and accuracy is high. The model proposed in this article can complete the modeling of complex hysteresis phenomena of the multidegree-of-freedom micromotion stage with force–voltage coupling. Through a series of experiments to verify the effectiveness of the model in this article, thereby laying the model foundation for the subsequent control of the piezoelectric ceramic actuator. This result also provides a strong scientific basis for future research on the application of piezoelectric ceramic actuators in ultraprecision motion systems and further improves the positioning accuracy of the system.

A stick-slip piezoelectric actuator with high assembly interchangeability

The stick-slip piezoelectric actuator with simple driving signal and structure is a very promising type for achieving the high resolution and large stroke. However, as a typical actuator working by the friction-inertia principle, the contact between the stator and mover requires precise adjustment, which brings difficulty for the assembly of the actuator. Excessive assembly errors may even cause the piezoelectric actuator to fail to work. Accordingly, to decrease the effects of assembly factors on the output performances and enhance the assembly interchangeability of stick-slip piezoelectric actuators, a method of low stiffness contact was proposed in this study, which used the flexible foot to replace the generally employed rigid foot with high stiffness. By comparing with the rigid foot actuator, the feasibility of the proposed method was theoretically analyzed first. Then, the effects of preload deformation and three potential assembly errors (deflection, overturning and pitching) on the output performances were characterized. Finally, a highly interchangeable actuator with compact structure was designed, and its abilities for quick disassembly and assembly, interchangeability of the stator and large-stroke stable motion were tested. Experimental results indicated that the proposed actuator can achieve good motion stability and high interchangeability. The strategy of low stiffness contact can significantly decrease the assembly requirement, which is beneficial to the practical production and application of stick-slip piezoelectric actuators.

Shape Control of Composite Structure with Suitably Placed Piezoelectric Sensors Under Electro-Thermo-Mechanical Condition with Non-linear Analysis

In this paper, the application of piezoelectric actuators to the composite control card is studied statically. The electro-thermo-mechanically coupled mathematical model is used for the analysis. The main section of this paper is static control. Shape control is stated here as determining the shape control parameters, including the actuation voltage and the adjustment of the actuator orientation, so that the structure which is activated using these parameters also adapts as closely as possible to the required shape. In this paper, we have presented FE model for the control analysis of the shape of piezoelectric laminated (PZT) composite plates using Ansys. The piezoelectric layer and composite plate are modeled in the form of additional layers to be attached to the upper or lower surface or to be integrated into the laminated composite plate. Ansys finite element software is used for modeling and has been successfully validated with experimental and numerical results which are readily available in the literature. The present analysis shows that with the application of an appropriate voltage to the piezoelectric actuator, the desired shape of the composite plate can be obtained. Ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of BaTiO3-templated 0.36BiScO3-0.64PbTiO3 thick films for piezoelectric device applications

ABSTRACT A novel 0.36BiScO3-0.64PbTiO3 (0.36BS-0.64PT) textured ceramic was developed using plate-like BaTiO3 (BT) templates for high temperature piezoelectric device applications. Sintering temperature and amount of BT template played important roles in improving the density, crystal orientation, and ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of the BT-templated 0.36BS-0.64PT thick films. When sintered at 1000°C, highly dense BS-PT textured films were obtained without formation of a secondary phase. The increased amount of BT template facilitated the degree of texture but deteriorated the relative density of BS-PT thick film. In particular, enhanced ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties were obtained for 1 vol% BT-templated 0.36BS-0.64PT thick film sintered at 1000°C; this film exhibited the very large Pr (44.2 μC/cm2 at 4 kV/mm), d33 (444 pC/N), kp (57.4%), and g33 (36 × 10−3Vm/N) values. In addition, considering the inverse relation between TC and strain, the electrostrain of d33* (622 pm/V at 4 kV/mm) was excellent, showing potential for piezoelectric actuator applications.

Achieving smooth motion and high-speed for piezoelectric stick-slip actuator based on the two-stage lever principle.

With the development of the precision manufacturing industry, actuators' performance requirements are increasingly demanding. However, stick-slip actuators still have the problems of backward motion and low motion speed at low frequencies. In this paper, to decrease the backward motion and achieve high speed at low frequencies, a linear piezoelectric stick-slip actuator is designed based on the two-stage lever principle. Theoretical and numerical investigations are used to optimize the flexible hinge of the stick-slip actuator. Experimental results indicate that the motion slider can achieve a smooth motion. The backward rate can even drop to 0. The maximum motion speed was 124.83 mm/s at 1600 Hz. The motion speed of the designed actuator was higher than that of previous stick-slip actuators at the same frequency. In addition, the load capacity of the prototype is tested. Based on different loads, the load matching is achieved by an auxiliary piezoelectric-stack, where the maximum horizontal load was 2.3 N. According to the comparison with previous actuators, the designed prototype can achieve high speed at low frequencies. Furthermore, the displacement curves show good smoothness. These characteristics will be helpful for the practical application of stick-slip piezoelectric actuators.
