As the proud father of three delightful girls, I believe there may be something in R M S Hall's observation that physicists tend to engender female offspring (Physics Bulletin December 1987 p438). In the Medical Physics Department of the Middlesex Hospital Medical School (now merged with its counterpart at University College London), four members of the academic staff are parents, of which three have fathered exclusively girls.
