The aim of the study is to examine the concept of “social justice” in modern scientific research and in the everyday perception of Russian citizens. It is shown that several concepts of social justice with different philosophical origins exist in society in parallel. Polling data show that for Russians the most relevant are economic, political and moral perception of social justice, as well as understanding it as a basis for equal realization of rights, freedoms and talents of citizens, regardless of their origin, capital, etc. The ideals of social justice in Russia have been transformed and now continue to change, reflecting the changes both in the value system of Russians and in the socio-political sphere: the significant role of individuality, the connection of the concept with lawmaking and political institutions, the opportunity for personal growth and acquiring a better future for each member of society, the decreasing role of the state in human life.
