Informal social support following bereavement: A scoping review of provider and recipient perspectives of helpful and unhelpful interactions.

Informal social support can both aid coping and be a source of distress following bereavement, prompting calls for investigating the features inherent in interactions between informal social supporter providers and the bereaved. Studies were identified by searching Medline, PsycINFO, CINAHL, ProQuest, and ProQuest (dissertations and theses) to 18th January 2024. A total of 23 papers underwent quality appraisal and data extraction. Intended supportive interactions were significantly associated with perceived supportive interactions in 93% of the 14 quantitative studies. A narrative synthesis identified key components of helpful (e.g., aligning with the needs of the recipient) and unhelpful informal social support (e.g., provider discomfort). These results are incorporated into a proposed Interaction Model of Informal Social Support following Bereavement (IM-ISSB) to integrate the identified factors associated with helpful and unhelpful informal social support. This model presents a novel approach to understanding support interactions following bereavement.

MutualDTA: An Interpretable Drug-Target Affinity Prediction Model Leveraging Pretrained Models and Mutual Attention.

Efficient and accurate drug-target affinity (DTA) prediction can significantly accelerate the drug development process. Recently, deep learning models have been widely applied to DTA prediction and have achieved notable success. However, existing methods often encounter several common issues: first, the data representations lack sufficient information; second, the extracted features are not comprehensive; and third, most methods lack interpretability when modeling drug-target binding. To overcome the above-mentioned problems, we propose an interpretable deep learning model called MutualDTA for predicting DTA. MutualDTA leverages the power of pretrained models to obtain accurate representations of drugs and targets. It also employs well-designed modules to extract hidden features from these representations. Furthermore, the interpretability of MutualDTA is realized by the Mutual-Attention module, which (i) establishes relationships between drugs and proteins from the perspective of intermolecular interactions between drug atoms and protein amino acid residues and (ii) allows MutualDTA to capture the binding sites based on attention scores. The test results on two benchmark data sets show that MutualDTA achieves the best performance compared to the 12 state-of-the-art models. Attention visualization experiments show that MutualDTA can capture partial interaction sites, which not only helps drug developers reduce the search space for binding sites, but also demonstrates the interpretability of MutualDTA. Finally, the trained MutualDTA is applied to screen high-affinity drug screens targeting Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related proteins, and the screened drugs are partially present in the anti-AD drug library. These results demonstrate the reliability of MutualDTA in drug development.

Economic uncertainty, monetary policy, and global commodity price dynamics: the role of “China factors”

ABSTRACT This paper aims to investigate the role of ‘China factors’ in the dynamics of global commodity prices from an interaction perspective. We employ a nonlinear Interacted-VAR to model the interaction between economic uncertainty and monetary policy. Our findings indicate that the response of global commodity prices to China’s economic uncertainty is stronger and more persistent when monetary policy is in the loose regime. These results are shown not to be driven by China’s business cycles, and remain robust across a variety of alternative model specifications. Counterfactual analysis further suggests that failing to take into account their interaction in the model could lead to incorrectly assessing the impact of commodity price determinants. Moreover, the responses of commodity prices to uncertainty shocks differ substantially across sectors, highlighting the heterogeneity in the reactions of commodities to ‘China factors’. Additionally, the response of commodity prices to policy-specific uncertainty shocks exhibits more similarities than differences across various uncertainty categories. Our paper gains insight into the interaction between economic uncertainty and monetary policy, as well as the role of ‘China factors’ in the global commodity market.

Thriving Children’s Emotional Self-Regulation in Preschool: A Systematic Review Discussed from an Interactionist Perspective

The primary aim of this article is to investigate and expand the existing knowledge on preschool children’s emotional self-regulation within the preschool setting and to explore how this critical skill can be effectively supported. This study is grounded in an interactionist perspective, viewing education as fundamentally relational. The methodology involved a systematic literature review of contemporary research focused on emotional self-regulation in preschool contexts. The findings indicate a positive correlation between children’s ability to regulate their emotions and their subsequent academic success. These results are discussed through the theoretical lens of’s theory of social bond, alongside the relational competence model. The discussion emphasizes the role of preschool teachers in fostering secure social bonds, with their socio-emotional competence serving as a vital buffer that supports children in developing emotional self-regulation.

Chatbot Efforts: Unveiling the Influence on Customer-Brand Connections

The present study researches the multifaceted dynamics of chatbot marketing initiatives concerning their influences related to quality of communication and customer-brand relationship. It also researches their impacts on loyalty response and brand advocacy within the clothing and apparel industry of Pakistan. This study adopts a quantitative approach using probability sampling. It examines communication quality and customer-brand relationship as mediators in the improvement of customer loyalty to response and advocacy, using the perspective of chatbot interactions. Data from the sample of 304 heterogeneous apparel consumers revealed significant relations among these variables of interest. Data analysis using SmartPLS 4.0 was therefore done, and from this analysis, it was realized that the chatbot marketing efforts have had positive effects on communication quality, hence enhancing the relationships between customers and the brand. These relationships drive customer loyalty, response, and brand advocacy to a significant extent, and therefore confirm that chatbots are indeed a tool for improving customer experience. Most importantly, through the proposed mediation analysis, communication quality and customer-brand relationship were identified as two imperative pathways that help retrieve more improved customer loyalty and advocacy for chatbot marketing efforts. This study contributes to chatbot marketing theory by explaining the mechanisms that drive consumer behavior in digital environments.

Time's Sublimest Target: Practices of Forgetting in HCI and CSCW

In our contemporary moment, there exists a hegemonic design practice and a general social desire to retain information. With the help of sociotechnical platforms and other contemporary technologies, information has changed its temporal and spatial boundaries, creating unbounded, algorithmic, and emergent forms of retention. The consequences of such retention are numerous, ranging from an overabundance of autobiographical information that cannot be fully understood by the individual to the improper use and economization of such information by state and corporation alike. Within this context, this paper investigates a counter-hegemonic practice of forgetting, specifically from the perspective of human-computer interaction and computer-supported cooperative work research, with additional insight drawn from adjacent fields. In doing so, we present forgetting as a significant area of research with HCI and CSCW, a burgeoning and contradictory space that may offer solutions to issues we face within a moment of persistence by default. This paper also explores potential directions for future research and design on forgetting in HCI and CSCW through an investigation of an art piece by Chinese artist Song Dong.

The interaction between local state and village collective in China’s market-oriented land reform: a case study in Pidu, Sichuan

ABSTRACT This paper examines China’s market-oriented reform of rural collective operational construction land (RCOC land), with a focus on the often-overlooked responses of village collectives to land deals. Drawing on fieldwork in Pidu, Sichuan (2017–2021), it analyses how village collectives react to land commodification and interact with the local state. By highlighting the diverse performances of village collectives in less-developed regions, the study contributes to agrarian studies by advancing an interactive perspective on political responses from below, a crucial but underexplored dimension of land commodification.

A Domain Adaptive Interpretable Substructure-Aware Graph Attention Network for Drug-Drug Interaction Prediction.

Accurate prediction of drug-drug interaction (DDI) is essential to improve clinical efficacy, avoid adverse effects of drug combination therapy, and enhance drug safety. Recently researchers have developed several computer-aided methods for DDI prediction. However, these methods lack the substructural features that are critical to drug interactions and are not effective in generalizing across domains and different distribution data. In this work, we present SAGAN, a domain adaptive interpretable substructure-aware graph attention network for DDI prediction. Based on attention mechanism and unsupervised clustering algorithm, we propose a new substructure segmentation method, which segments the drug molecule into multiple substructures, learns the mechanism of drug interaction from the perspective of interaction, and identifies important interaction regions between drugs. To enhance the generalization ability of the model, we improve and apply a conditional domain adversarial network to achieve cross-domain generalization by alternately optimizing the cross-entropy loss on the source domain and the adversarial loss of the domain discriminator. We evaluate and compare SAGAN with the state-of-the-art DDI prediction model on four real-world datasets for both in-domain and cross-domain scenarios, and show that SAGAN achieves the best overall performance. Moreover, the visualization results of the model show that SAGAN has achieved pharmacologically significant substructure extraction, which can help drug developers screen for some undiscovered local interaction sites, and provide important information for further drug structure optimization. Dinamika Kehidupan Sosial Masyarakat Pedesaan: Analisis dari Perspektif Sosiologi

This study examines the dynamics of rural social life from a sociological perspective using structural-functional, conflict, and symbolic interactionist theories. The findings reveal that rural communities are characterized by mutual cooperation, dependence on the agrarian sector, and strong social solidarity. However, modernization brings challenges, such as shifts in traditional values and intergenerational conflicts. Structural-functional theory illustrates social stability through mechanisms like mutual cooperation, while conflict theory highlights social change driven by group tensions. The symbolic interactionist perspective explains how individuals create and modify values through daily interactions. This study provides an in-depth understanding of rural social dynamics and serves as a guide for inclusive sustainable development policies in rural communities.

The Influence of Culture on Identity Development: A Symbolic Interactionism Study

Introduction: Psychologists increasingly see culture as vital in defining our sense of self. Though many theoretical perspectives exist on how culture impacts one’s identity, this research seeks to justify these claims and contribute to the existing empirical data. Methodology: The current research used a qualitative methodology through thematic analysis and semi-structured interviews to justify the claims that culture influences one's identity through a symbolic interactionism perspective. The participants in the study were four psychology students at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the United Kingdom. They were interviewed with the focus theme question, ‘How does culture shape our identity?’ The combined transcribed responses were used as the basis for this research study on culture and its implications in shaping one's identity through self, identity, and culture—findings: The results indicated that culture is an imperative theme that defines one's self–construal. The culture in which people are born may be viewed as a psychological phenomenon impacting how they define their identity. Culture and the development of self intertwine in explaining a person’s behaviours. The identity of self–development is responsible for framing humans' mental lexicon and their cultural perspectives.

Analysis of the Impact of Media Cultural Exposure of Xunpu Female Hairpin Flower in Fujian Province on the Behavior of Surrounding Young Tourists from the Perspective of Social Media Interaction

With the rise of social media, the transmission of traditional culture has undergone fundamental changes. This study takes the Xunpu female hairpin flower culture in Fujian Province as an example to explore the impact of media cultural exposure and social media interaction on the behavior of young tourists in the surrounding areas. Using questionnaires and the Theory of Planned Behavior, the study analyzes the influence of social media interaction, media cultural exposure, personal attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on tourism intention. The findings reveal that social media interaction and media cultural exposure significantly affect young tourists’ attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, thereby influencing their tourism intention. This research provides new insights for the protection and inheritance of traditional culture, and also offers references for the development of the tourism industry.

“I Have Become a Warrior in the Xiang Army”: Legacies, Nostalgia, and Identity in Chinese Regional Hip-Hop

Hip-hop and rap music culture have shaped various local cultural forms in Asian countries and regions. This study explores hip-hop cultural politics at a local level, drawing on Chinese regional traditions and knowledge and responding to Western-axis hip-hop culture making. Through an analysis of the corpus of lyrics, videos, and performances of the ‘Huxiang Flow’ hip-hop genre in Hunan, China and 20 semi-structured interviews with Hunanese hip-hop audiences, this study identified how the parochial hip-hop genre has conceived local discursive fields and cultural identity through the rejuvenation of dialects and cultural ingredients and how it has preserved local linguistic and cultural heritages. Our analysis revealed the thoughtful, philosophical, and moral transmission of locality based on school instruction and incorporated in hip-hop music that has been well received by local audiences and communities. Based on our findings, we propose that hip-hop music is a vehicle of identity in the local community, presenting a grassroots, interactive, and critical perspective on the interpretation of identity in locality.

From multi-omics to predictive biomarker: AI in tumor microenvironment

In recent years, tumors have emerged as a major global health threat. An increasing number of studies indicate that the production, development, metastasis, and elimination of tumor cells are closely related to the tumor microenvironment (TME). Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, particularly in large language models, have rapidly propelled research in the medical field. This review focuses on the current state and strategies of applying AI algorithms to tumor metabolism studies and explores expression differences between tumor cells and normal cells. The analysis is conducted from the perspectives of metabolomics and interactions within the TME, further examining the roles of various cytokines. This review describes the potential approaches through which AI algorithms can facilitate tumor metabolic studies, which offers a valuable perspective for a deeper understanding of the pathological mechanisms of tumors.

The employee’s perception of psychological safety: construct dimensions, scale development and validation

Although organisations can effectively resist risks and enhance organisational performance by creating a Perception of Psychological Safety (PPS) climate, there is a lack of PPS scales developed under a multidimensional integrated interaction perspective. Based on a review of relevant theories, this paper clearly defines the concept of PPS and proposes a three-dimensional model of PPS, including organisational- level PPS, team- level PPS, and dyadic- level PPS. In this paper, we develop and validate a scale for measuring PPS in the workplace using 12 startups in a relatively economically developed region in the southeastern coastal region of China as the empirical target. The results of the empirical analyses show that the scale we developed has a good level of reliability and consistency, as well as good content validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity.

Kepemimpinan Transformasional Untuk Kepala Sekolah Indonesia: Konsep Dan Pengukurannya

This study explores the application and significance of transformational leadership among school principals in Indonesia. Transformational leadership is considered a pivotal approach for improving the role of principals in driving positive change within educational institutions, impacting teachers, students, and the entire school community. Drawing on transformational leadership theories by Bass and Avolio (2003), the Principal Leadership Questionnaire (PLQ) is adapted specifically for the Indonesian context, measuring dimensions such as Professional Interaction, Participative Decision-Making, Individual Support, Intellectual Stimulation, and Moral Perspective. This instrument has undergone rigorous validation and reliability testing, confirming its suitability for evaluating teachers' perceptions of principals' leadership effectiveness in Indonesian schools. The study highlights the relevance of transformational leadership in addressing challenges unique to Indonesia's educational landscape, including resource limitations and geographic disparities. It concludes by emphasizing the need for principals to adopt transformational leadership to foster a collaborative school climate and calls for further research on adaptive leadership practices within local contexts. Investigating the December 2023 warm-to-cold weather whiplash in China using a novel flash-cold metric

Abstract In mid-December 2023, China experienced an unprecedented cold wave that marked a critical stage in a negative temperature-related weather whiplash event (WWE), which was characterized by a rapid shift from extreme warmth to extreme cold. The traditional metric—temperature variance—is insufficient to reflect the temporal evolution of this WWE. Therefore, we introduce a novel metric termed "flash-cold" to identify the sharp and significant decrease in surface air temperature. This new metric not only effectively captures recent WWEs trend in line with variance-based metric but also allows daily tracking of temperature shifts. Using the flash-cold metric, we delineate the evolution of the WWE case in China into four phases: first warm spell, first flash-cold, second warm spell, and second flash-cold (corresponding to the unprecedented cold wave). A recently proposed Lagrangian temperature budget analysis highlights the crucial role of high-latitude blocking circulation in both flash-cold phases through cold advection. The first flash-cold phase was triggered by backward cold air masses driven by upstream systems associated with Okhotsk blocking, while the second flash-cold phase developed when the trough downstream of Ural blocking moved eastward and rotated counterclockwise. In contrast, subtropical systems moderated the decreasing temperature during the first flash-cold through diabatic processes but had minimal impact on the second flash-cold, helping to explain why the second flash-cold was more intense. From a multiscale interaction perspective, the development of these blocking circulations was facilitated by a background of exceptionally weak meridional gradient of potential vorticity, the smallest recorded since 1979.

Human-Computer Interaction from a New Qualitative Perspective: Creating Mobile English for STEM

The nascent domain of human-computer interaction (HCI) has additional prospects for the integration of technology in language acquisition. The advancement of technology has led to an increase in job opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field. However, there is a decline in the number of individuals pursuing careers in STEM due to their inadequate proficiency in the English language. English lexicon for STEM lacks a specific term, requiring an innovative solution from the perspective of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The objective of this study is to investigate the requirements of STEM learners in developing a mobile module for English language proficiency. The approach employed is a qualitative investigation. A total of seven individuals, all of whom were 17 years old and engaged in STEM education, took part in semi-structured interviews. The interview results are categorised into four primary themes: (1) the significance of acquiring English proficiency, (2) challenges faced by learners, (3) approaches to studying the English language, and (4) learners' preparedness in utilising a mobile application. This study holds importance for mobile app designers, English language teachers, and course designers as it will offer a comprehensive understanding of the requirements of STEM learners in the English language. Furthermore, using the learners' views in the design of a mobile app enhances the effectiveness of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), resulting in successful second language acquisition. Subsequent research can focus on creating and constructing a mobile application that improves the English language proficiency of STEM learners, considering the viewpoints and opinions of the learners themselves.

The Role of Social Media in Marital Relationships: A Symbolic Interactionist Perspective

As part of the digital transformation of modern societies, social media has become a space where individuals express their identities, display their social roles, and make their relationships visible. This study adopts a symbolic interactionist framework to explore how social media reflects meaning, identity, and role processes within marital relationships. The research was conducted using a qualitative methodology. In the first phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 30 participants, and two focus group interviews with six people each were then used to deepen the findings. The data were analyzed thematically under the guidance of symbolic interactionist theory, and three main themes emerged: "new forms of communication in marriage," "representation of marriage on social media," and "definition of relationship roles." The findings show that social media serves as a tool for creating new meanings, identities, and roles in marriage. Within the framework of symbolic interactionism, social media symbols contribute significantly to strengthening emotional bonds, building trust, mitigating conflict, and raising awareness of gender roles in marital relationships. In addition, demographic factors such as age, years of marriage, and gender, as well as individual preferences and relationship dynamics, were found to influence meanings, identities, and roles within these interactions.

Finding him: a symbolic interactionist perspective of romantic and queer love

ABSTRACT While being firmly rooted in and committed to the Western context, within which this piece is located, the discussions are not generalized since the aim of this paper is to offer a critical and theoretical appraisal of romantic and queer love. The theoretical lens applied here is symbolic interactionism. The examples of gay love that are examined include the following: gay open relationships; queer monogamy; and gay love in gay friendships. The added dimensions of sexuality and gender are noticeable when making links between gender and sexual relations.
