Character Education Practices At Al Azhar Islamic School Bumi Serpong Damai@Metland

Character education in schools is very necessary because character education is the core of education itself. Building character, it can't be done tomorrow. Therefore, character-based Character education in schools is very necessary, because character education is the main thing of education. This research was conducted to examine the practice of character education in schools. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of character education at Al Azhar BSD@Metland Islamic School in terms of 1) character education objectives; and 2) character education strategies. This research uses case study research method to answer these questions. The researcher acts as the main instrument and collects data by means of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research data came from the implementation of character education at Al Azhar BSD@Metland Islamic School. To ensure the legality of the data, this research applies triangulation of data sources, theories, and methodologies. The findings of this study imply that overall, the implementation of character education at Al Azhar BSD@Metland Islamic School has been carried out through habituation programs or routine activities applied by the school to its students, including character building activities in the form of teaching and learning activities carried out by educators with competencies in accordance with their fields and carried out regularly and on schedule. The policy implemented to fulfill this goal is to carry out 8 religious policies that have been effectively implemented at Al Azhar BSD@Metland Islamic School.

“I ask different questions to my students now”: An inquiry into the role of textbooks for the teaching of historical thinking in Basque secondary schools

Starting from an analysis of the Basque competence-based secondary school history textbook EKI and the perceptions of teachers using it, these pages aim at investigating how history teachers relate to the textbooks they use in the classroom and the role these teaching materials play in the promotion of deeper historical understanding of their students. The Baque case offers a good opportunity to see how competence-based teaching materials are used to teach historical competences and how they may have affected the teaching of history in Basque secondary schools. Two main research questions are addressed: how this competence-based textbook integrates historical thinking skills and how it affects teachers´ understanding of history and teaching practice. The results suggest that theoretical reflections on historical thinking and epistemic questions have not permeated school teaching practices yet; however, the textbook does introduce students into historical thinking concepts and has produced changes in teachers’ practices. Besides, this research has detected the interest of further investigating how we deal with historical thinking in the everyday practice of increasingly diverse classrooms.

Factors affecting English language high school teachers switching intention to ChatGPT: a Push-Pull-Mooring theory perspective

ABSTRACT This qualitative research investigated the factors that influence the switching intention of teachers from traditional classroom teaching to the use of ChatGPT in English language teaching based on the Mooring Theory framework. The data collection involved in-depth interviews with 26 teachers from Malaysian high schools. The findings revealed that the push factors were related to outdated pedagogical methods and limited creativity and student engagement opportunities. On the other hand, the pull factors were related to ChatGPT as a software-based artificial intelligence for facilitating English language acquisition, influencing content development among teachers and implementing personalised learning approaches. The study identified various mooring factors impacting teaching practices in Malaysian schools. Firstly, the limited functionality of ChatGPT, since it is an automated language model. Secondly, teachers grapple with striking a balance between incorporating technology and maintaining the validity and authenticity of their teaching practices. Finally, students’ lack of critical thinking skills challenges teachers in promoting independent thought and analytical reasoning within the classroom. The study emphasises the significance of enhancing critical thinking skills and incorporating personalised learning strategies to establish a conducive learning environment in Malaysian schools.

Ripples in the Water: Physical Education Teacher Education Program Influence on Graduates’ Perceptions of Expanded Physical Activity Programming

Physical educators are often asked to promote whole-school physical activity programming beyond their scheduled class times. Previous research has supported that training in expanded roles would be beneficial during university-based physical education teacher education (PETE) training. In this qualitative study, 13 graduates from a single PETE program that has integrated expanded physical activity into programming shared information about their current programming as physical education teachers in K–12 schools. Campus visits and one-on-one interviews were included. Some practices and values learned during participants’ PETE training were evident in graduates’ current practices. Aligning with previous studies of professional socialization of physical educators, the resulting themes concluded that (a) strategies and resources gained during PETE training were valued and still used and (b) other ripples of influence, such as administrators and other teachers at their current placement, influenced programming. PETE programming with whole-school physical activity can lead to expanded teaching practices in schools.

Teachers' Perceptions of Research Culturalization in Elementary Schools

Research culture is fundamental in developing educational practices in schools that are based on proven knowledge and data. Culturalization at the elementary school level is the foundation for developing a research culture at the higher school level. Teachers' perceptions can provide benchmarks for research culturalization practices in schools as the ultimate base of a research-based mindset. This research aims to analyze research culturalization as perceived by teachers in elementary schools. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a questionnaire that measures teachers' perception towards fifteen aspects of research Culturalization. Data analysis from 379 teachers of local elementary schools shows that: (1) the percentage of teachers' perceptions regarding knowledge of research culture is 57% just starting; (2) the percentage of teacher perceptions related to understanding is 55% just starting; and (3) the percentage of teacher perceptions related to practice is 69% just starting. These results indicate that the culturalization of research based on teacher perceptions is at a will-do level regarding knowledge, understanding, and practice indicators. Teachers' perceptions are alike in knowledge and understanding and higher in practice. These findings conclude an awareness and enthusiasm of research culturalization significance that should be supported by all stakeholders involved, such as the government, teachers, leaders, and other educators involved in the schools. These findings also provide challenges for policies and practices that align with research culturalization indicators in elementary schools.

School culture and teaching practices for the effective student- centred learning during emergency remote teaching

ABSTRACT This paper explores teaching practices during emergency remote teaching, drawing on data from a nationwide online survey of Estonian high schools. The study was motivated by an attempt to understand effective teaching under conditions of emergency-related logistic, online teaching and economic constraints faced by the schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study design adopted a quantitative approach, employing exploratory factor analyses and structural equation modelling of self-report data from a sample of 1,788 teachers. The model brought out three teaching strategies employed during the emergency remote teaching period and their relationship to school-level factors, perceived workload and perceived effectiveness of student learning. Student-centred learning strategies were especially perceived as effective and influenced by stronger collaboration at the school level. Our findings illuminate the necessity of implementing a varied and flexible teaching methodology under emergency remote teaching contexts, backed by a proactive and dynamic collaboration among school members and parents.

Do in-service teachers accept artificial intelligence-driven technology? The mediating role of school support and resources

This study investigates the acceptance and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) among in-service teachers in Lesotho, focusing on the mediating role of school support and resources (SSR). In Lesotho's educational landscape, which is characterized by a growing interest in technology integration, this study fills an essential gap in the existing literature by exploring in-service teachers' perspectives on AI adoption and the mediating influence of SSR. Using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as the theoretical framework, the study adopts a cross-sectional design, collecting data from a sample of 315 in-service teachers through online surveys. The data was analyzed using maximum likelihood estimation. The results reveal a substantial positive relationship between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and a positive attitude towards AI, with SSR playing a pivotal role as a complementary mediator in these connections. However, the study identifies a non-significant relationship between technical proficiency and behavioral intention, suggesting a need for further investigation into the technical skills essential for effective AI integration. The results highlight the critical role of SSR in shaping in-service teachers' intentions to use AI in their teaching practices. As a result, the study recommends tailored continuous professional development programs and collaborative learning communities to enhance teachers' skills. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of advocating for policies that support AI integration in education and underscores the ethical considerations related to AI use. We discuss the implications of our results concerning integrating AI into teachers' teaching practices in schools and outline future directions.

Thinking outside of the (Western) Box: Cultural Psychology Perspectives on Creativity in Education

ABSTRACTThis paper expands upon the invitation to rethink how psychology has constructed knowledge, theories, and research while analyzing the epistemological foundations of educational practices in schools, especially those aimed at promoting creativity. Our goal is to critically explore the shortcomings of the traditional, Westernized individualistic, and mostly positivistic approach usually found in school contexts. To foster creativity, a more dialogical, socio‐cultural, and collaborative framework is suggested, involving multiple perspectives and possibility thinking to address current educational challenges. Through an examination of education and creativity, we analyze educational practices in Westernized societies and explore the possibilities that arise from non‐Western perspectives and dialogical approaches. The discussion is guided by the following questions: what kind of educational practices have been bolstered in Westernized societies? How do these relate to educating (with and for) creativity? A case study is included to provide concrete illustrations that substantiate our arguments. Incorporating decolonial frameworks into cultural and socio‐cultural perspectives, as well as in creativity research, would enrich the understanding of these fields. Decolonial approaches can offer valuable insights by addressing power relations inherent in knowledge construction and practice. Embracing these approaches enables these fields to contribute to a more nuanced and comprehensive understanding of human phenomena.

Beyond academics: Links from teaching practices in Swedish schools to students’ achievements and mental health complaints

BackgroundDespite extensive research on the relationship between teaching practices and learning outcomes, limited attention has been given to their potential links with students’ mental health. AimsThis study investigates the relationships between three teaching practice types – teacher-centered, student-centered, and student-dominated – and both student mental health complaints and academic achievement. It furthers explores variations in these associations based on students’ socioeconomic status (SES). SampleThe analysis includes 4573 grade 9 students (aged 15–16 years) in the Swedish comprehensive school system. MethodsEmploying structural equation modelling techniques, we analyze a dataset comprising students’ cognitive test scores, their perceptions of classroom processes, self-reported mental health complaints, as well as register data on teacher-assigned grades and parental education. ResultsTeacher-centered practices are positively associated with academic achievements but lack robust links with mental health complaints. Conversely, student-centered practices are positively associated with academic achievements and correlate with lower mental health complaint frequencies. However, student-dominated practices demonstrate poor relationships with both mental health and academic achievements. Limited variations based on students’ social background reveal only two differing associations between low and high SES students: teacher-centered teaching shows stronger academic achievement associations for low SES students, while student-dominated teaching is more adversely linked to low SES students' mental health. ConclusionsThe results affirm the benefits of both teacher- and student-centered teaching practices for academic achievement while cautioning against excessive self-directed teaching. Importantly, the study highlights the role of instructional approaches in shaping not only academic outcomes but also students’ mental health.

School leadership and teaching practice: a systematic review of studies of the indirect effects

PurposeSince teaching practice is the most important within-school determinant of student learning outcomes, a deepened understanding of how and why school leadership contributes to effective teaching is needed. This article aimed to systematically review the knowledge that has been accumulated about the indirect relations between school leadership and instructional practices.Design/methodology/approachThe Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guided the selection of relevant articles from the databases Scopus and Google Scholar. Twenty-six published works met the eligibility criteria and were included in the narrative synthesis and content analysis.FindingsThe most frequently measured mediators of the effects of school leadership on teaching practice were teacher collaboration, professional learning and teacher self-efficacy. Most studies simultaneously modeled multiple mediated pathways from school leadership to teaching practice. However, only a few analyzed studies used time lags when examining relationships between constructs.Originality/valueThis is the first study to systematically review knowledge on pathways through which school leadership is related to classroom instruction. Thus, this review provides a comprehensive understanding of processes through which school leadership achieves its effects on instructional practices.

К вопросу о продуктивной направленности обучения иностранному языку в рамках элективного курса в предпрофессиональном медиаклассе

This article deals with the issue of designing an elective foreign language course “Media Content Developer” for students of the 10th – 11th profile media classes. The aim of the course is to develop students’ professional self-determination through foreign language teaching. The relevance of the research topic is related to the need for expanding the subject content of the discipline “Foreign Language” for the designated audience and further meeting the need of high school students in obtaining the conditions for their professional self-determination. The feature of the foreign language elective course will be the reinforcement of the career guid-ance orientation of education through the development of productive types of speech activities of high school students, their productive thinking, creative abilities, and the creation of media products as a result of the crea-tive activities of high school students. The developed fragment of the elective course “Media Content Develop-er” in English is a demonstration of the specifics of the course and will contribute to its preparation in general and implementation in the school teaching practice.

Female EFL Pre-Service Teachers’ Experiences During Field Teaching Practice at Vocational School

In the context of teacher training, the integration of gender dynamics within the educational setting has received increasing attention, particularly in environments where gender roles are distinctly emphasized. However, there remains a significant gap in the literature concerning the specific challenges and strategies of female EFL pre-service teachers in male-dominated vocational schools, which this study seeks to explore. This qualitative study aims to uncover the experiences of female EFL pre-service teachers during their field teaching practice in a male-dominated vocational school. The data were gathered from the reflections of nine female pre-service teachers. The findings revealed a variety of experiences encountered by the participants. They shared their initial reactions and feelings upon being assigned to teach at the school, the challenges they faced during the teaching practice, the difficulties encountered when interacting with male students, and the strategies they developed to overcome these interaction challenges.Keywords: Female EFL pre-service; field teaching practice; vocational school

A Case Study of Biology Teaching Practices in Croatian Primary Schools

Abstract The aim of this case study is to present the most frequent teaching methods used by biology teachers in the Republic of Croatia, based on the observations made during biology class and the teachers’ statements. The study included six distinguished primary school biology teachers, along with their seventh-grade classes. The data comprised an interview with each teacher and twelve class observations. The results show that biology education in the Croatian educational system is mostly traditional, whereby students mostly practice listening to the teacher (34%) and answering the questions (18%). In summary, the majority of teaching consists of teachers presenting the content materials and asking questions or engaging students in specific individual or group activities. The present study has determined a lack of student questions and class discussions. Additionally, the nature of teachers’ questions does not encourage students to think and provide extensive answers. For this reason, the study suggests that teachers encourage students to ask questions and organize teaching activities in ways which will contribute to more class activity and deep learning of students. Despite some acknowledged limitations, the results of this study can contribute to a better understanding of the teachers’ experiences in authentic science classrooms, in specific contexts.

Exploration and Practice of Innovative Reading in Primary Schools from the Perspective of Life Education

Reading teaching is a teaching process that directly affects students' values and worldviews, and is an important way to promote the development of students' values. It is a special cognitive process for students to appreciate various aspects of life, understand life forms, experience-rich life emotions, and promote the complete development of their own worldviews and values. The values of primary school students are in the enlightenment period, therefore, it is important and necessary to implement life education-themed reading teaching in primary school reading teaching. The main body of the paper consists of the following three parts: The first part mainly elaborates on the relevant policies, social background, and core concepts of the paper, as well as the necessity and feasibility of conducting junior high school Chinese reading teaching practice from the perspective of life education. The second part mainly analyzes the current situation of primary school teaching practice, introducing the four methods summarized by the author in practice from the perspective of life education. The third part is a summary of the case results and insights gained from innovative reading from the perspective of life education.

Pre-service teachers evaluate mentors and teaching practice schools using metaphors

The present study aimed to analyze the views of pre-service teachers, expressed through metaphors, about the adequacy of mentors and teaching practice schools and their recommendations for effective mentoring. A phenomenological design was adopted, and participants included 105 mentees. The current mentors and teaching practice schools had attributes that were not adequate for active mentoring. The mentor should be selected based on criteria such as professional competence, ability to perform mentoring roles, and positive interpersonal relationships. The teaching practice schools should be selected based on human relations, educational activities, the quality of education and instruction, and the physical conditions of the school.

Report on English Vocabulary Teaching Practice in Primary School Based on Interactive Teaching Method

The famous German educator Zimmer proposed that the interactive teaching method has its roots in sociology. That is, people gain experience in the process of communicating for their own development. However, in the teaching process, English teaching focuses more on the communication between the teacher and the students. Through classroom interaction students constantly develop the ability to question and think creatively. In addition, this teaching method has become one of the more popular teaching methods as teachers design lesson plans with students’ interests in mind. Interactive teaching method has the qualities of variety, immortal, discipline, etc. This paper hopes that the practical study of interactive teaching methods will achieve the goal of increasing students’ interest as well as improving their learning through the integrated used of teaching methods. This study took the grade six of Chen guang Primary School, Fan cun Township, Kaifeng County, Henan Province as an example for classroom research. In the process of learning English, the interactive teaching method is more appropriate to elementary school students whose personalities are presently inception and advancement to investigate their true capacity. Eventually, the interactive teaching method continues to be advocated in the course of teaching practice.

Collective development of teaching practices in Swedish compulsory schools – does professional learning occur?

ABSTRACT This article describes how some Swedish compulsory schools work to achieve collective development of practices in mathematics and science. The overall aim is to increase knowledge about factors influencing progression to professional learning in different school contexts. Data were collected through four case studies by interviews with teacher teams and principals and were analysed in a meta-perspective by using the components of the Collaborative Action Research model. The findings showed that the schools had reached different phases concerning progression to professional learning. Changes aiming to improve teaching and learning are context-bound. Therefore the authors suggest some crucial questions to support professional learning in the prevailing school culture.

Features and Issues of Disaster Management Education Practices in Schools and Communities in Japan: Based on an Analysis of Activities of Organizations Participating in the “Disaster Management Education Challenge Plan” of the Cabinet Office

In this study, we analyzed the disaster management education programs implemented by organizations included in the Disaster Management Education Challenge Plan, a program established to support disaster management education efforts in Japan. We examined the changes in these programs and identified the current state and issues in the promotion of disaster education in Japan by classifying the contents. The study methodology involved creating data sets of the program reports submitted from fiscal year (FY) 2004 to FY2021 by organizations admitted to the Disaster Management Education Challenge Plan, and evaluating them on scales of “fundamental skills of disaster management” and “factors regarding implementing the programs.” Analysis of the former found that there were few programs aimed at acquiring a scientific understanding of disasters as natural phenomena or learning about measures to prevent damage at normal times. Cluster analysis yielded eight clusters, based on which we discussed and proposed ways to implement the programs in order to improve the “fundamental skills of disaster management.” Similarly, analysis of the latter identified issues with regard to program logistics, such as securing financial resources and cultivating future successors. Cluster analysis yielded five clusters, based on which we discussed and proposed ways to effectively implement the programs.

Exploring the Role of Social and Digital Media Platforms in Enhancing Teaching and Learning Practices in Indian Schools

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of social and digital media platforms in improving teaching and learning practices in Indian schools. With the rapid growth of technology and the increasing distribution of internet access across the country, social and digital media platforms have emerged as powerful instruments with the potential to transform the educational environment. The benefits, constraints, and potential solutions for effectively leveraging these platforms to improve teaching and learning outcomes in Indian schools are examined in this study. The incorporation of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allow teachers to develop virtual communities, facilitate communication, and engage students in dynamic discussions outside of the traditional classroom. These platforms facilitate cooperation, peer-to-peer learning, and the exchange of educational information. Furthermore, they allow teachers to deliver personalized feedback, monitor student progress, and assess learning outcomes in real-time, creating a more student-centered and inclusive learning environment. Digital media platforms, such as online learning management systems, educational apps, and interactive multimedia content, are critical for increasing access to quality education in remote locations and closing the digital divide. These platforms offer a plethora of instructional resources, ranging from e-books and videos to simulations and virtual reality experiences, all of which can help students better learn and retain complicated concepts. Furthermore, adaptive learning capabilities on digital media platforms adjust instructional content to individual students' requirements and learning styles, enabling personalized and self-paced learning experiences. However, integrating social and digital media platforms in Indian schools presents several problems.

OS DESAFIOS DO ENSINO MÉDIO NA PRODUÇÃO DISSERTATIVA ARGUMENTATIVA E ENEM

The essay for the National Secondary School Examination – ENEM, has shown a challenging reference for teachers and students, considering the peculiarities of the required textual typology, - argumentative dissertation, whose production is shaped from the requirements present in the Participant’s Cartilha, one of the offi cial documents from INEP, which guides the referred test. It is necessary to emphasize the lack and precariousness of writing laboratories in public schools, of teaching actions that prioritize interactive content, of better teacher x student connection, among other factors, has motivated continuous research in this regard. Regarding this test, with regard to the requirements of writing, it is visible that these end up impacting teaching practices in relation to the teaching of writing, especially in the 3rd grade, when Portuguese Language and Writing classes are aimed at preparing this exam. It was possible to understand from the research about students with diff erent levels of writing, argumentation, as well as teachers with an extensive workload that makes it diffi cult to provide individual and productive feedback for the work. This article aims to know and refl ect on the infl uence of the ENEM Writing test on the methodological practices of Portuguese Language teachers, to understand how this materializes in the teaching routine. It is also the intention of this, to know the opinion of teachers from public high school systems about the ENEM Writing test, considering their importance in the process of renewing teaching practices in schools. During the research, it was possible to perceive that the teacher’s work, in the experience of textual production, is partly marked by the guidelines contained in the Participant’s Handbook, which makes this action focused on training a writing limited to the molds proposed by ENEM.
