Sultan Abdurrahman Khalifatul Mu’minin Sayyidul Imam : Perannya terhadap Kesultanan Palembang Darussalam

This research discusses the role of Kimas Hindi or Sultan Abdurrahman Khalifatul Mu’minin Sayyidul Imam in establishing the Palembang Sultanate which began because of the feud between the Palembang Kingdom and the Mataram Sultanate, which made Kimas Hindi as the ruler of the Palembang Kingdom desperate to break free from Mataram’s power, then deliberately made Palembang a sultanate so that its position became equal to Mataram. The framework of this subject matter, among others: (1) How is the socio-cultural description of the Palembang Sultanate? (2) How is the role of Sultan Abdurahman Khalifatul Mu’minim Sayyidul Imam in establishing the Palembang Sultanate and his role in government. This research uses qualitative data. While the data sources in this study come from primary data and secondary data. Then data collection uses interpretation or historical analysis, as well as historiography. From the results of the research, it can be seen that the socio-cultural life in the Palembang Sultanate is very From the results of the research, it can be seen that the socio-cultural life in the Palembang Sultanate was very concerned so as not to conflict with Islamic law. The culture that had existed before the Palembang Sultanate was improved so as not to conflict with the Sharia. The socio-cultural life that spread in various aspects of life in the Palembang Sultanate included clothing or clothing, arts, titles (status), customary law, language, and so on. While the formation of the Palembang Sultanate was the role of Sultan Abdurrahman Khalifatul Mu’minin Sayyidul Imam after breaking away from the power of the Mataram Sultanate and making the Palembang Kingdom an independent state by changing it to the Palembang Sultanate so that the position of Palembang and Mataram became equal. The role of Sultan Abdurrahman in his government included moving the center of government which was originally in Kuto Gawang then transferred to Beringin Janggut, re-establishing relations with the Dutch in trade matters, spreading Islam, and establishing relations with other kingdoms.

Kyai Abd. Rachman Bin Sopa Hamid: Jejak Keluarga Kesultanan Palembang Darussalam Di Tulung Selapan Ogan Komering Ilir

This research is the result of historical research with the title " Kyai Abd. Rachman Bin Sopa Hamid: Palembang Darussalam Sultanate Family in Tulung Selapan Ogan Komering ". This research was conducted to determine the journey and role of Kyai Abd. Rachman Bin Sopa Hamid in Tulung Selapan through the historical evidence left behind. In this research, Levinson's Role Theory is used. Through this theory, the traces, role and position of Kyai Abd can be analyzed. Rachman Bin Sopa Hamid in the Tulung Selapan village community, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency during the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate era until its current influence on the local community. Apart from that, the research method used is descriptive qualitative. From the results of his research, it is known that the fall of the Palembang sultanate into Dutch hands was marked by the capture of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II and his family who were then exiled to Ternate (North Maluku). At the same time, several imperial families and other Mujahid figures also fled to other areas, including Kyai Abdurachman bin Sopa Hamid, who at the time also fled to the Ogan Komering Ilir area, precisely in Tulung Selapan, until he died. The whereabouts of Kyai Abd. Rachman Bin Sopa Hamid in Tulung Selapan is marked by the presence of several relics in the form of a collection of swords and tenongs as well as the existence of Kyai Abd's food. Marga Belitang Dalam Pemerintahan Onder Afdeeling Komering Ulu : Dinamika Sosial dan Budaya

This research is a local historical research that explains the Belitang clan in the Onder Afdeeling Komering Ulu government in terms of the history and social and cultural dynamics of the community. Marga is a form of government which is currently at the level of a sub-district and was established during the Dutch colonial government. The main issues are first, what is the history of the formation of the Belitang clan and second, what are the social and cultural dynamics of the Belitang clan community. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with data collection through observation, documentation, interviews and literature study. The results of this research conclude that (1) The origins of the Belitang clan began with the oldest hamlet in the area with residents who were descendants of the original Lampung Pepadun tribe. The community in the village is led by a clan balancer, namely Ratu Bagus Baginda, and lives in the Tanjung Raya Palace. He proposed the establishment of a clan government system in Belitang to the Dutch government and it was inaugurated in 1930 AD. (2) The social and cultural dynamics of the Belitang clan community have actually existed since the time of the Palembang Sultanate, for this reason the customary rules that apply in the community are almost the same as the rules mentioned in the Simbur Cahaya Law.

Timah dalam Pembentukkan Budaya dan Ekonomi Masyarakat Bangka

This research begins with the assumption that the tin policy during the Palembang- Independence Sultanate had an influence on the cultural and economic formation of the Bangka people. This research is a library research using a historical approach. Primary data used in this research was obtained from the PT, Timah Tbk Museum Archives in Pangkalpinang. The theory used in this research is the theory of historical materialism by Karl Marx. The results of this research show that the existence of policies on tin mining from the time of the Palembang Sultanate until independence had a direct impact on the people of Bangka who could not access natural tin resources because they were controlled by tin rulers. The existence of tin mining activities then contributed to the formation of culture and economic changes in the people of Bangka.

The Gate of Ki Ranggo Wirosentiko's Grave: Traces of Non-Islamic Cultural Acculturation in the Material Culture Heritage of the Palembang Sultanate

Palembang is known as one of the centers of the Palembang Sultanate. One of the most important cultural relics in Palembang is the Palembang Sultan Cemetery complex. Each of these cemetery complexes has a different architectural shape of the tomb, one of which is the tomb complex of Ki Ranggo Wirosntiko. A Striking distinction in this tomb is the shape of the tomb gate complex building that depicts influences in non-Islam culture. This article will explain the differences in shape in the building of the gate and the influence of non-Islamic culture on the shape of the tomb gate of Ki Ranggo Wirosentiko. The method used is the archeological method using a stylistic analysis of the observation of the ornaments found in the gates of this complex. The results of this study show that the building of the tomb gate of Ki Ranggo Wirosentiko shows acculturation with non-Islamic culture. The profile of the outer gate depicting Hindu influence is marked by the similarity with the stylistic elements in the Bentar temple and Paduraksa Temple, East Java. The resemblance is also visible on the profile of the foot and the mould of the gate resembling the profile found in the Paduraksa Temple. On the profile of the third gate, there is an inscription of the year 1142 H or 1730 M using Arabic letters. The local influence appears on the third gate's appearance, indicating the presence of mustak. Based on the profile of the building of the tomb gate Ki Ranggo Wirosentiko shows the influence of Hindu, Buddhist, Arab, and local cultures on the decorative range of the construction of the grave of the temple.

SEJARAH PEMERINTAHAN MARGA PEGAGAN ILIR SUKU II DI DESA SUNGAI PINANG

Clan rule has existed in South Sumatra since the time of the Palembang Sultanate. Then in the 19th century, the clan developed, marked by the existence of several clans, one of which was the Pegagan Ilir Tribe II clan in Sungai Pinang Village. However, based on the Decree of the Governor of South Sumatra in 1983, the clan system was abolished and then replaced with villages. This research aims to review the history of the Pegagan Ilir Suku II clan which was abolished. The method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques through interviews and literature. The Tribe II clan was founded when the Dutch came to the Palembang area. This clan was founded in 1860 AD, based in Sungai Pinang Village 1. The leader of the Pegagan Ilir Suku II clan was a Pasirah who was directly elected by the community. The most famous Pasirah was Abdul Cholik, then after his reign it was continued by Haji Malian, namely his son and then continued by his son Haji Muhammad Noer. The development of religion and education in the Pegagan Ilir Tribe II clan is also very good. The conclusion of this research is that the Pegagan Ilir Tribe II clan is a government system led by Pasirah who ruled very well, where during the reign of this Pasirah, Sungai Pinang Village developed both from a religious and educational perspective.

The Sultanate of Palembang Based on Digital Storytelling As a Learning Media of Local History in Palembang

This study aimed to create a thrilling and interactive learning experience for students using digital media (including audio, videos, photographs, and animations) while analyzing the history of Palembang Sultanate. College students must be invited to participate in ancient adventures and experience the ecosystem of the Palembang Sultanate. This learning media may be designed with the aid of students and by using the currently available digital era. Story content can be developed using thrilling narratives, creative visuals, and animations that bring ancient events to life. Moreover, student interplay with the content can be endorsed via questions, sports, and demanding situations that are incorporated into the tale. The current study examines the learning media by testing it on a set of college students in Palembang and measures its effectiveness in raising interest, understanding, and appreciation of the history of the Palembang Sultanate. The results of the assessment could be used to enhance and optimize the knowledge of media so that it is extra effective and per the needs of college students. It is hoped that using virtual storytelling-based knowledge of media can grow students’ interest in gaining knowledge of neighborhood records, support their sense of cultural identification, and broaden their knowledge of the journey of the Palembang Sultanate. This study media can also be a beneficial reference supply for instructors in teaching neighborhood records in Palembang.

A Study Bukit Siguntang as the Sacred Heritage of the Ancestral Land of the Malay Nation: From Profane to Sacred

Bukit Siguntang is an important piece of evidence of the historical heritage of the Srivijaya Kingdom in Palembang. It is estimated to have originated in the 6th century AD. Although the system of Palembang society has changed from Buddhist society to Islamic society since the development of the Palembang Sultanate, the heritage is still considered sacred by the Malay community around the site so that the existence of the historical site is preserved. However, the condition of the site is not maintained according to its function now. This study aimed to analyse changes in the meaning of the site by the community and government and its impact on the site damage. This study used a qualitative method with a historical approach. The results of the study showed that there was a change in the meaning of the Bukit Siguntang site between the government and the community, so that there was a struggle for space utilization between the government and groups of activists to rescue the historical heritage. The local government interpreted the site as a tourism asset that had to be "sold", while the activists interpreted it as a historical heritage that had to be rescued since it kept the collective memory of the Malay nation. This resulted in different approach in utilizing the site. Since the 1980s, the government has emphasized a development approach for the people's welfare, while historical activist groups have viewed the government's actions as destroying historical heritage considered sacred by the community. Due to these differences, conflicts between the government and the community activists of the Malay heritage often occur. It is hoped that the conditions there can be returned to their original state even though they are no longer original

Pempek Palembang: history, food making tradition, and ethnic identity

Pempek is one of the renowned dishes from Palembang, famous throughout Indonesia, particularly in South Sumatra. Crafted from a blend of ground fish meat, tapioca, water, and seasonings, this dish is typically served with Cuko sauce. The resulting flavor is a harmonious combination of saltiness, spiciness, and umami, thereby making Pempek an exquisite culinary creation. Pempek holds a significant place in the cultural, historical, geographical, and lifestyle identity of Palembang and has also endured through time. Therefore, this study explained the origin and development of the traditional food, Pempek, and its influence on society, ultimately shaping it as a Palembang identity. A historical approach was utilized in the study, which involved several stages, such as heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and narration (historiography). The result showed that the production of Pempek depended on the availability of raw materials in the South Sumatra region, such as fish, sago, and brown sugar. Its history was traced back to the Srivijaya Inscription (682 AD) and the Sultanate of Palembang, a cultural hub that introduced various foods, including Pempek. The Nginum culture supported the development of Pempek distinct flavor and aroma, making it a daily staple. In the early twentieth century, Pempek started to be produced on a limited basis for sale, eventually becoming a widespread industry. The archives from various government and private sector events showed that Pempek has become increasingly famous in Indonesia and around the world over the last 20 years. This growth can be attributed to the fact that Pempek is a significant souvenir for migrants, a symbol of Palembang City, and has a positive impact on the local economy. Therefore, future studies need to explore developments in the production of Pempek and its impact on the economy of South Sumatra.

The impact of the Palembang war and Dutch colonial domination on socio-economic changes in Palembang in the XIX-XX century

The 1821 war between the Palembang Sultanate and The Dutch ended with the transfer of power from Palembang to the Dutch colonial government. The Dutch colonial domination over Palembang resulted in bureaucratic and socio-economic changes. This historical study discusses the condition of Palembang after the Palembang War in the XIX-Early XX Century. Three main questions are addressed in this study: 1) What was the impact of the Menteng War on Palembang?, 2) What were the forms of Dutch Colonial Policy in Palembang in the XIX-Early XX Century?, 3) What changes occurred during the Dutch Colonial period in Palembang in the XIX-Early XX Century ?. The findings of this study show that since the Menteng War, the Sultan and his family had been exiled and some had moved to the interior. In addition, the Sultan gave up his power over the Palembang Sultanate. The handover of power was accompanied by a note that the Sultan would continue to enjoy the right to military honors, the right to his coat of arms and regalia, the right to an annual allowance, and the right to participate in civil and criminal trials. During the Palembang period under the domination of the Dutch colonial rule, there were various economic policies including the formation of an administrative system. The policy has an impact in the field of development and the social sector.

Adaptation of the political economy of the grassroots Tionghoa ethnic in Bangka Island, Indonesia

Since the 17th century, various Tionghoa ethnic groups migrated from mainland China to Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. These ethnic groups migrated in accordance with the power in government. In Bangka Island, the Tionghoa had become part of the tin exploitation process hundreds of years before colonization. When new policies and changes are made on tin mining by the government, it negatively affects the socioeconomic life of this ethnic group, which was initially known as tin laborers. This study aims to determine the adaptation of the Tionghoa political economy in Bangka Island. The research method used is qualitative with literature review, interview, and observation as the data collecting technique conducted from January to December 2021. The result showed that the government largely determined the rule of tin by the Tionghoa ethnics. They became partners, administrators, illegal and main players during the Palembang Sultanate, colonial period, Old and New Orders, and the post-1998 reform period. This study discovered that Tionghoa at the elite and grassroots levels are actually different. In general, this study concludes that the Chinese at the grassroots tend to be distant from the advantages of tin due to limited capital and access.

The ulama of Palembang Sammaniyah order: Survival in the middle of the regime of power in the 20th century

During the Palembang Sultanate, the Sammaniyah order was the official religion of the Palembang palace. Sammaniyah tariqa scholars were also made officials and advisers to the sultan. This article aims to discuss the power relations of the Palembang Sammaniyah ulama in terms of continuity and change in the regime of power. From the 19th to the 20th centuries, the Sammaniyah tariqa lived and developed under five regimes of power, namely the Sultanate of Palembang Darussalam, the Dutch colonists, the Japanese invaders, the Old Order and New Order. Palembang Sammaniyah tarekat scholars who are considered conservative (kaum tuo) have to deal with modern scholars (kaum mudo) because of the khilafiyah problem. As a result, there was a great shift by the Sammaniyah ulama in maintaining and developing the Sammaniyah order in Palembang. Firstly, the shift occurred in the role and function of the ulama of the tarekat, changing from religious leaders who teach Islamic religious knowledge to multifunctional scholars in dealing with modernism by utilising public space. Secondly, the charismatic nature of the Sammaniyah tarekat ulama formed the authority of the ulama so that the ulama could play a role in sociopolitical affairs in each power regime. Thirdly, contemporary tarekat scholars and Sammaniyah tarekat scholars who are considered conservative scholars could compete with mudo people who were considered religious reformers. Besides, the ongoing Islamisation challenged the Sammaniyah tariqa scholars in maintaining and developing the Sammaniyah tariqa.Contribution: This research will contribute to determining the relationship between power and the existence of scholars. The question that the article tries to explore is how the identity and existence of the ulama could survive every change of power in Palembang. This article will discuss the changes in power that have occurred in each period that caused a change in mindset and a shift in the identity of the ulama. This study discusses the power relations of the Palembang Sammaniyah ulama in changing regimes of power and finds the fact that power can affect the order.

The Social, Political, and Cultural Perspective of Islamic Education in Palembang Malay: A Continuous Evaluation from the Dutch Colonial Period to Today

This study presents the historical concept of Islamic culture and Islamic teachings/education in the Malay Archipelagos of Indonesia while reviewing Islamic culture and teachings/education research. It also describes Islamic education's evolution in Malay from the Dutch Colonial Period to the modern digital world from various social, political, and cultural perspectives. A library and normative research approach were conducted using descriptive-qualitative secondary data analysis. This study used secondary data from books, journals, institutional reports, research, and the internet. The results revealed that, during the Sultanate of Palembang, the traditional Islamic educational system and institution prevailed in Palembang, but after the colonial government came to power, Islamic education was marginalized. Today, numerous Islamic educational institutions in Palembang have transformed the system and institution of Islamic education in this region, starting from teaching religion at home, langar, or the mosque. Moreover, nowadays, the digital world has opened more horizons for informal and instant interactions between Islamic scholars and the community to learn about Islam and follow Islamic teachings, which provide a complete code of conduct.

Undang-Undang Simbur Cahaya dan Piagam Dalam Kebijakan Pencegahan Korupsi Serta Kasus Gratifikasi dan Penyuapan di Kesultanan Palembang

This discussion is about local law that applies in its application, regarding the corruption prevention system written in the charter and the Simbur Cahaya Law issued by the sultan of Palembang. The Simbur Cahaya Law is a very productive law in preventing corruption in remote areas, regional officials are given the authority to carry out legal settlements without the approval of the Palembang sultan so that the fine imposed on the suspect will be divided between the victim and officials in the interior. in solving cases that occurred in their village. After that, it was also discussed about the system of sultanate administration (government) in the hinterland which also carried out the law by giving it to government officials who represented the sultan in the interior and also disseminated to all regions in South Sumatra except the Besemah area because they have their own laws, the charter is also a legal rules that give authority to high-ranking officials in the area that are used to complement the laws that apply in the Besemah area. Gratification was used as a form of giving by local rulers to equal or higher rulers and this was also true in the Palembang Sultanate and one of the bribery cases at the end of the sultanate. The method used in this research is descriptive method, which is the method used to find the elements, characteristics, properties of a phenomenon. This method begins with collecting data, analyzing the data, and interpreting it. The problem that arises is what is the content of laws and charters that contain elements of preventing corruption? and what are the forms of gratification and bribery in the Palembang Sultanate as well as corruption within the VOC itself

PERKEMBANGAN TRADISI ZIARAH KUBRO PADA MASYARAKAT KOTA PALEMBANG TAHUN 1970-2008

The Ziarah tradition is one of the traditions of the Indonesian people that is often being held before Ramadan. The great influence of the existence of the Arab communities in the Palembang brought a tradition known to various countries so that it became religious tourism, namely the Ziarah Kubra. Ziarah Kubra is one of the traditions of the people of Palembang city which is being held every 10 days before Ramadan by visiting the graves of the ulama and leaders of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate. The purpose of this research is to find out how the emergence of the Ziarah Kubra carried out by the Arab communities in Palembang and to find out how the development of the Ziarah Kubra tradition in the people of Palembang city from 1970-2013. The method used in this research is the historical method. This research has shown that the tradition of the Ziarah Kubra has been brought by the people of Palembang has been developed every year, where's this tradition was only practiced by the Arab communities in the Palembang and relatives of the Palembang Sultanate. Then this tradition began to be open to the public in 1970 and was designated become the religious tourism by the Palembang city government in 2013. So that the people of Palembang continue.

Sejarah Pulau Siantan sebagai Pusat Aktivitas Bajak Laut dan Daerah Pelarian Politik pada Abad 18 M

This paper discusses the history of Siantan Island (Anambas) in the South China Sea as a center of pirate activity (lanun and political escape areas in the 18th century. The writing uses historical historical research methods and uses library research to extract sources. From the research, it is known that a number of nobles from the Sultanate Siak, the Sultanate of Palembang and the Bugis nobility from Luwu moved to Siantan after losing the power struggle in their native area. In Siantan, the nobles gathered strength by relying on the Orang Laut. The existence of the Orang Laut became the main force to become pirates (lanun), rulers of the sea and carry out piracy in the south China sean and The South China Sea and other areas. The act of piracy ois not only political purposes, but also for economic reasons to seek wealth. Marriage ties are a powerful tool in strengthening relations between the immigrant aristocrats and the Siantan people. The nobles in Siantan then returned to their kingdom and successfully seize power. Raja Alam became the Sultan of Siak, the Five Opu Bugis brothers ruled in the Kingdoms of Johor, Riau and Lingga. Meanwhile, Prince Jayawikrama succeeded in seizing the throne of the Sultan of Palembang with the title Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I.

Rempah dan Kosmopolitanisme Islam : Koneksi Spiritual-Intelektual Palembang, Banten dan Demak dibalik Perdagangan Global Abad XV – XVI

Nusantara is known as the world's main supplier of spices since classical times. Various spices such as pepper, nutmeg and cloves are excellent in the international market. Studies on Indonesian spices, as conducted by Wellan, OW Wolters, J.C. Van Leur, Chalwani Michrob to Fahmi Irfani show a map of the important pepper trade in Sumatra and Java. It should be noted that the spice trade network is also related to the spiritual contact between Islam and Hindu-Buddhist teachings or local beliefs. This can be seen traces in Palembang, Banten and Demak. By using the historical method armed with a socio-economic approach, a number of historical explanations can be found. The author uses an explanation model by looking at the function of the port on the coast, its relation to trade routes in the interior. The purpose of writing this article is to present a new studyfor the historical discourse of Islam Nusantara. As is well known, seas, lakes, rivers and various watery inlets, both dynamic and static, are not a barrier to human interaction in the archipelago. In addition to the commercial aspect, which has been widely reviewed by a number of previous researchers, there is other information that has not been discussed, namely the existence of a spiritual-intellectual network that is connected between one area and another. The author finds a number of interesting facts, such as the emergence of the discourse of Islamic cosmopolitanism which is the result of a dialogue between immigrant and coastal communities. For example, in the case of the establishment of the Palembang Sultanate, Ki Gede ing Suro, a political figure from Demak, built a mosque near the Kutogawang Palace as a locus of Islamic education for the local population. There are findings in the form of the distribution of Ilmu Kebal (similar to Ilmu Pancasona) which was inherited by Arya Penangsang from Jipang Panolan, Central Java, to his descendants who are believed to still exist in the Mount Batu, Komering. This cross-island relationship isan important finding that confirms that in the XV-XVI centuries, cross-island intellectual spiritual contacts have been found in the archipelago. This article is the result of research on cities and intellectual networks in Palembang, Banten and Palembang funded by the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia.

Pelapisan Sosial Masyarakat Melayu-Jawa Pada Masa Kesultanan Palembang Abad 19

This article is to find out the social layers of the Palembang people which began to emerge since the existence of the Palembang Sultanate. In addition to the natives, in the 19th century the population of Palembang had several ethnic groups that had a distinctive settlement in Palembang, namely Chinese, Arab, and Malay-Javanese Palembang. However, the social stratification of this society is focused on the Malay-Javanese community (Ilir Palembang area). During this sultanate, the population was divided into two major groups, namely the aristocratic aristocracy and the common people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between layers of Malay-Javanese society (Ilir area of Palembang) and their role in each area of social stratification of society. This research is qualitative in nature using literature studies and interviews. The results showed that the people of Palembang, especially Malay-Javanese, had social layers, the area of social stratification of the people of Palembang had a role as a production area for the Palembang Sultanate Period, the Malay-Javanese people of Palembang had titles that determined the Goo-gook area, and Palembang community relations, especially Malay-Javanese. with immigrant communities such as ethnic Arabs, Chinese, and Indians they live side by side with high tolerance.

MAKNA SIMBOL MOTIF SONGKET PADA SITUS KOMPLEKS MAKAM KAWAH TENGKUREP

Tengkurep Crater is the burial place of the Palembang Sultanate which was built in 1728 which consists of four cupolas. This research is focused on the meaning of the symbol of the Sognket motif on the site of the Tengkurep Crater tomb complex which can provide information about the development of artistic culture during the Palembang Sultanate. Based on the results of the study, there were four songket motifs and their symbolic meanings found at the Tengkurep Crater Tomb Complex, namely the tumpal motif, the meru motif, the geometric motif and the berante motif. The method used to answer these problems is through observation and literature study. The data that has been collected is then analyzed and conclusions are drawn.

 The development of Palembang as a Malay Islamic civilized city that advanced in the early 19th century AD, one of which is drawn from the attention of the Sultan of Palembang to religious texts In this paper examines the description of the manuscript of the Kitab of Qowaidil Aqoid Ma Huwa Tsaniy min Kitab Ihya Ulumuddin owned by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II. The method of philology research uses a single edition model, using the workings of the diplomatic edition. This manuscript's writing in Arabic is included in Ilmu Kalam, which needs a particular explanation from Ulama Ilmu Kalam. The illumination of the manuscript appears simple, using European paper. From colophon, we can see the amount of attention and appreciation of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II to Palembang Sultanate collection's religious manuscripts.
