Fenton Reagent Oxidation and Decolorizing Reaction Kinetics of Reactive Red SBE

Fenton reagent was employed to treat and decolorize the wastewater of Reactive Red SBE by on-line spectrophotometry. The effects of initial FeSO4 concentration, initial H2O2 concentration, pH, reactive red SBE and temperature on the decoloration of reactive red SBE were investigated. The results show that Fenton oxidize process follows pseudo first order kinetics in the first stage and reaction activation energy is 2.608 kJ/mol. The decolorizing reaction rate constants (k) increase with the rise of FeSO4 concentration, H2O2 concentration, temperature, but decrease with the rise of reactive red SBE, and the optimum pH is 3. Initial FeSO4 concentration and initial H2O2 concentration against k are linear correlation.

Disulfide Bond Formation with Polymer-Supported Reagent

Oxidizing reagents for disulfide formation of peptides are prepared from poly(ethylene glycol)polyacrylamide (PEGA) via the stepwise solid-phase peptide synthesis (method 1) or the oligomerization of N-carboxy anhydride derivatives (method 2). The oxidation of peptides 1 and 2 was carried out with resins 1a-d and 2 to give the corresponding disulfides 1′ and 2′ in 90-100% yield.

Treatment of K-2BP Wastewater by Photocatalytic Oxidation and Fenton Reagent

Photocatalytic oxidation and Photo-Fenton oxidation of active bright red K-2BP in aqueous was studied. Used nanometer Titanium dioxide as photocatalyst, invested the affection of value of photocatalyst, reaction temperature, light distance on the decolor rate of dyestuff ().Under the optimum condition, amount of catalyst 2.0g/800ml, initiative concentration of K-2BP 15mg/L, solution pH=4.0, the decolor rate by nanometer Titanium dioxide photocatalytic oxidation reached up 98.5% in 150min. And as a comparison, the decolor rate by photo-Fenton oxidation of K-2BP could be about 99% within 30min.

Catalytic Behaviors of Expansible Graphite in the Synthesis of Butyl Acetate

The catalysis of expandable graphite EG for esterification has been studied. EG was prepared with KMnO4 as oxidant and H2SO4 as inserting reagent. Eexpanded volume，x‐ray diffraction and energy dispersive analysis for EG were carried, and its catalytic activity was detected in the reaction of acetic acid with butanol. Influence of mole ratio of butanol and acetic acid, dosage of EG on ester yield were optimumed single factor experiments. The suitable esterification condition is: molar ratio of butanol to acetic acid keeps 1.6:1.0, mass of EG keeps 9.0% of the total mass of reactants; reaction keeping up 1.0 h at the boling point, and esterification rate of 98.2% can be achieved. The reuse ester yield is 86.6% for first reuse and 61.2% for the second reuse.

Oxidative Modification of Native Protein Residues Using Cerium(IV) Ammonium Nitrate

A new protein modification strategy has been developed that is based on an oxidative coupling reaction that targets electron-rich amino acids. This strategy relies on cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) as an oxidation reagent and results in the coupling of tyrosine and tryptophan residues to phenylene diamine and anisidine derivatives. The methodology was first identified and characterized on peptides and small molecules, and was subsequently adapted for protein modification by determining appropriate buffer conditions. Using the optimized procedure, native and introduced solvent-accessible residues on proteins were selectively modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and small peptides. This unprecedented bioconjugation strategy targets these under-utilized amino acids with excellent chemoselectivity and affords good-to-high yields using low concentrations of the oxidant and coupling partners, short reaction times, and mild conditions.

Efficient Selective Oxidation of Cyclohexane Catalyzed by Metallodeuteroporphyrins with Air in the Presence of l-Cysteine

Efficient selective oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone catalyzed by metallodeuteroporphyrins with l-cysteine as the cocatalyst has been investigated. Apparently high catalytic activities of metallodeuteroporphyrins and selectivities of cyclohexanone were observed. The results could be attributed to the dual roles of l-cysteine as the axial ligand and the dehydrogenized reagent in the catalytic oxidation. Efficient selective oxidation of cyclohexane catalyzed by metallodeuteroporphyrins with l-cysteine as the cocatalyst have been investigated. l-cysteine could apparently improve the catalytic activities of metallodeuteroporphyrins and increase the selectivities of cyclohexanone.

Protein Expression Regulation under Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress is known to affect both translation and protein turnover, but very few large scale studies describe protein expression under stress. We measure protein concentrations in Saccharomyces cerevisiae over the course of 2 h in response to a mild oxidative stress induced by diamide, providing detailed time-resolved information for 815 proteins, with additional data for another ~1,100 proteins. For the majority of proteins, we discover major differences between the global transcript and protein response. Although mRNA levels often return to baseline 1 h after treatment, protein concentrations continue to change. Integrating our data with features of translation and protein degradation, we are able to predict expression patterns for 41% of the proteins in the core data set. Predictive features include, among others, targeting by RNA-binding proteins (Lhp1 and Khd1), RNA secondary structures, RNA half-life, and translation efficiency under unperturbed conditions and in response to oxidative reagents, but not chaperone binding. We are able to both describe general dynamics of protein concentration changes and suggest possible regulatory mechanisms for individual proteins.

The Treatment of Printing and Dyeing Wastewater by Using Coagulation and Fenton Reagent Oxidation Combined Process

It is difficult to treat printing and dyeing wastewater, for printing and dying wastewater features complex composition, high chromaticity and many toxic substances.The paper studied the effect of the compound of inorganic and organic coagulant with Fenton reagent on the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater. The effect of other factors were also investigated, including pH value, flocculants, Fenton reagent and reaction time. The results showed that, under the conditions of room temperature, pH 9, PAFCS dosage 100mg/L, PAMC 4mg/L, pH 4, H2O2 dosage 1.0mL/L, FeSO4•7H2O dosage 150 mg/L, the reaction time 60 min, the CODCr removal was high over 91%, and the color was also significantly removed.

Colloid-chemical effects in the oxidative destruction of isononylphenol ethoxylate

The possibility of the oxidative destruction of isononylphenol ethoxylates in micellar solutions with critical micellization concentrations of up to 3.5 by the Ruff system (hydrogen peroxide in the presence of Fe3+ ions) is established in principle. It is shown that iron hydroxocomplex polymerization, which leads to the formation of large colloid particles but does not lower the efficiency of a surfactant oxidation, can proceed in a solution at pH 3–5. It is established that the concentration of micelles in a Neonol solution falls sharply during oxidation at the optimum ratio of surfactant and oxidative reagents, and they virtually disappear at the initial stage of oxidation. In contrast, oxidation results in growth of the sizes of micelles upon a lack of oxidative reagents.

Harnessing Redox-Active Ligands for Low-Barrier Radical Addition at Oxorhenium Complexes

The addition of an [X](+) electrophile to the five-coordinate oxorhenium(V) anion [Re(V)(O)(ap(Ph))(2)](-) {[ap(Ph)](2-) = 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(phenylamido)phenolate} gives new products containing Re-X bonds. The Re-X bond-forming reaction is analogous to oxo transfer to [Re(V)(O)(ap(Ph))(2)](-) in that both are 2e(-) redox processes, but the electronic structures of the products are different. Whereas oxo addition to [Re(V)(O)(ap(Ph))(2)](-) yields a closed-shell [Re(VII)(O)(2)(ap(Ph))(2)](-) product of 2e(-) metal oxidation, [Cl](+) addition gives a diradical Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))Cl product ([isq(Ph)](•-) = 2,4-di-tert-butyl-6-(phenylimino)semiquinonate) with 1e(-) in a Re d orbital and 1e(-) on a redox-active ligand. The differences in electronic structure are ascribed to differences in the π basicity of [O](2-) and Cl(-) ligands. The observation of ligand radicals in Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))X provides experimental support for the capacity of redox-active ligands to deliver electrons in other bond-forming reactions at [Re(V)(O)(ap(Ph))(2)](-), including radical additions of O(2) or TEMPO(•) to make Re-O bonds. Attempts to prepare the electron-transfer series monomers between Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))X and [Re(V)(O)(ap(Ph))(2)](-) yielded a symmetric bis(μ-oxo)dirhenium complex. Formation of this dimer suggested that Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))Cl may be a source of an oxyl metal fragment. The ability of Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))Cl to undergo radical coupling at oxo was revealed in its reaction with Ph(3)C(•), which affords Ph(3)COH and deoxygenated metal products. This reactivity is surprising because Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))Cl is not a strong outer-sphere oxidant or oxo-transfer reagent. We postulate that the unique ability of Re(VI)(O)(ap(Ph))(isq(Ph))Cl to effect oxo transfer to Ph(3)C(•) arises from symmetry-allowed mixing of a populated Re≡O π bond with a ligand-centered [isq(Ph)](•-) ligand radical, which gives oxyl radical character to the oxo ligand. This allows the closed-shell oxo ligand to undergo a net 2e(-) oxo-transfer reaction to Ph(3)C(•) via kinetically facile redox-active ligand-mediated radical steps. Harnessing intraligand charge transfer for radical reactions at closed-shell oxo ligands is a new strategy to exploit redox-active ligands for small-molecule activation and functionalization. The implications for the design of new oxidants that utilize low-barrier radical steps for selective multielectron transformations are discussed.

Preparation and Reactivity of Polystyrene-Supported Iodosylbenzene: Convenient Recyclable Oxidizing Reagent and Catalyst

A facile preparation of novel polystyrene-supported iodosylbenzene (PS-ISB, loading of IO up to 1.50 mmol/g) from iodopolystyrene is described. This resin has been successfully used for efficient oxidation of a diverse collection of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones in the presence of BF3˙OEt2. PS-ISB can also be employed as efficient co-catalyst in combination with RuCl3 in the catalytic oxidation of alcohols and aromatic hydrocarbons, respectively, to corresponding carboxylic acids and ketones using Oxone as the stoichiometric oxidant.

Sodium sulfite: A promising reagent in the electrochemical oxidation of metallic silver

Among the complexing agents suitable for the electrochemical silver recovery, a promising one is sodium sulfite forming silver complexes with high stability constants: according to our data, log β1 ~ 5.3, log β2 ~ 8.2. This reagent is accessible and cheap, but nevertheless it almost never has been used for these purposes. We studied the stability of the sodium sulfite solutions in air and showed a possibility of using them for a long period. Using the methods of potentiodynamic polarization and potentiostatic electrolysis, we have studied characteristics of the process of metallic silver oxidation in the sulfite media. The anodic polarization process of the silver dissolution is shown to occur with 100% yield with respect to the consumed current. Simultaneously, on the cathode deposited up to 90% of dissolved silver. An urgent problem of chemical technology is the extraction of noble metals, particularly silver, from the electronic and jewelry scrap and similar sources. The traditional methods of the silver extraction (1-3) are based on its dissolution in the presence of oxidants in acid solution (perchloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid) or complexing agents (cyanide, thiocyanate, thiourea). From these solutions, silver is isolated as insoluble salts or is reduced to metal. The main disadvantages of these techniques are the high consumption of reagents and non-selectivity of dissolution: besides silver copper, iron, and other components of the raw material are dissolved. Significantly less expensive are the methods that use electrolytic anodic oxidation of silver in specially selected electrolytes (4). Processing a material containing large amount of basic metals (copper, iron, nickel, etc.) should be performed under conditions providing selective transfer of silver in the solution. For this purpose are used the electrolytes containing thiourea (5), thiocyanate (6, 7), amino acids (8), etc. Silver can be deposited and isolated on the cell cathode. Note that the earlier proposed thiourea me- dium (2) still is widely used in the gold and silver hydrometallurgy. The study of the process of elec- trolytic oxidation and reduction of silver has been carried out in (9-11). Electrochemical Pretreatment of Wastewater from DDNP Production Using BDD Thin Film Electrode

The electrochemical oxidation of wastewater from DDNP production was investigated using a boron-doped diamond (BDD) thin film electrode. The effects of operating factors such as cell voltage, interelectrode distance and additive NaCl have been studied. This study showed that the chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction is most influenced by the applied cell voltage. Higher current densities resulting from higher cell voltages increase the formation of oxidative reagents resulting in an increased COD removal rate. The maximum COD removal was 57% after 210 min, with an energy consumption of 14.90 KWh·kg-1COD when cell voltage was 12V, interelectrode distance was 3cm and additive NaCl concentration was 1g·L-1. The use of BDD thin film electrode for the treatment of DDNP production wastewater appears commercially feasible.

A depth analysis of the formed material has been made for different reagent–oxidant ratios. The probable mechanism of growth of carbon nanostructures has been proposed.
