Triphenyltin isothiocyanate and 1-(salicylideneimino)-2-methoxybenzene (L) form a pseudo-complex of formula L 2Ph 3SnNCS·HNCS. The crystal and molecular structures of this compound are reported. The crystals are monoclinic, space group I2/ a, a = 10.9050(10), b = 24.6527(16), c = 16.2251 (10) Å, β = 95.208(7)°, V = 4343.91 Å 3, Z 4, D calc = 1.409 Mg m −3, μ = 0.70 mm −1, F(000) = 1172, final R = 0.041 for 2858 unique observed reflections. The X-ray crystal structure shows the compound to consist of protonated ligand pairs [L 2H] + co-crystallizing with a five-coordinate organotin moiety of formula [Ph 3Sn(NCS) 2] −. The ligand dimers are held together by hydrogen bonds. The organotin anion is trigonal bipyramidal, with the phenyl groups arranged equatorially and the thiocyanato groups occupying the axial positions.
