Training on Learning Moral Values of Early Childhood with a Scientific Approach at IGRA (Raudhatul Athfal Teacher Association) Sidoarjo" aims to provide three provisions to partners, namely: 1. Understanding and insight into learning moral values of early childhood based on a scientific approach; 2. Providing adequate abilities and skills regarding learning moral values for early childhood with a scientific approach so that learning will be more successful; 3. the ability to practice directly learning the moral values of early childhood with a scientific approach. The partners included were 40 teachers registered with IGRA (Raudhatul Athfal Teachers' Association). The implementation method uses a comprehensive method, in the sense of involving partners from the beginning of implementation to the end of the service, namely by inviting partners to identify problems related to partners' difficulties in terms of learning moral values for early childhood. Besides that, it involves partners to be directly involved in activities by providing the widest possible opportunity for partners to ask questions, respond and share experiences. The activity steps include: 1. Orientation of the material by presenting the material by the resource person; 2. Provide concrete examples of a scientific approach in learning moral values for early childhood; 3. Provide hands-on practice of a scientific approach in learning moral values at an early age. The results of the activity show three things, namely: Increased understanding and comprehensive insight of partners about learning moral values for early childhood with a scientific approach, as evidenced from the results of interviews 95% of partners said their understanding and insight had increased; 2. The level of ability and skills of partners regarding learning moral values for early childhood with a scientific approach has also increased, as evidenced by the results of interviews, 85% of partners have increased their abilities and skills; . The ability of partners when directly practicing learning moral values of early childhood with a scientific approach is also quite proven from the results of observations 85% of partners are able to carry out the practice.

Towards a typology of secondary school subject departments

ABSTRACT Subject departments are an increasingly important unit of analysis for research on schools and beginning teachers’ experiences. By analysing a practice-based typology of eight departmental types through an exploratory factor analysis of questionnaires completed by beginning teachers (n = 55), the authors refined the typology to four (hierarchical; open; self-promoting; divisive). Further exploration of this refined typology, through in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of six beginning teachers, allowed the authors to illustrate the departmental types in relation to their experiences. These findings highlight some of the ways in which new regimes of accountability and corporatisation are reshaping the ways in which departmental cultures are constructed and enacted. The beginning teachers in this study describe their responses and adaptations to their placement departments in ways that highlight opportunities for Initial Teacher Education partnerships to better anticipate and prepare beginning teachers for the departmentalised nature of their experiences.

Community-led identification of mental health support, challenges, and needs among Ethiopian immigrants to the U.S.: opportunities for partnership with faith communities

ABSTRACT The mental health challenges and service needs of immigrant populations within the US remain under-addressed. This study presents landscape analysis results from a community-led mental health project with the Atlanta-area Ethiopian immigrant community. The landscape analysis included focus group discussions with community stakeholders and surveys. Key themes that emerged included: (1) indicators of mental health challenges; (2) perceptions of causes of mental health challenges; (3) responses to mental health challenges; (4) barriers to treatment; and (5) community mental health resources. Study findings revealed patterns of mental health concerns and experiences of racism in the Ethiopian immigrant community. Faith-based beliefs and practices emerged across all key themes. Stigma surrounding mental illness is a barrier to mental health care-seeking. This was differentiated from stress, which was more freely discussed among family and friends. Study results highlight religious communities and leaders as key sources of support and critical to community-led mental health programming.

Preconditions for the development of organizational knowledge ecosystem inside an audit firm

The paper aims to present key preconditions for the development of organizational knowledge ecosystem inside an audit firm. The audit activities represent a specific context for knowledge management, especially what concerns knowledge sharing and generation of new knowledge in organizational environment of formal rules and standards. We present the survey of audit firm employees (68) and their management by discussing the key challenges related to the dynamic knowledge sharing and new knowledge creation inside an audit firm. The paper investigates the nature of knowledge within an audit firm and analyses the cultural and structural aspects of KM practices that may lead to the emergence of ecosystem for sharing the existing and generating new knowledge. The paper adopts the intra-organizational perspective to knowledge ecosystem. The audit firm operates as knowledge organization that, despite its strong formal side, is a complex dynamic system of knowledge professionals, who form the different communities of practice inside the firm. Research presented in this paper helped identify the key challenges and opportunities for the emergent knowledge partnerships inside the professional audit firm. The key cultural preconditions behind the effective knowledge ecosystem - trust-based relations, organizational culture, positive horizontal and vertical relations, and strong intrinsic motivation to share knowledge - are in place. Research findings also reveal a good fit between the employee expectations and organizational practices. However, certain challenges need to be addressed, such as bringing out and embodying the tacit knowledge of employees, and the need for continuous upgrading of the processes of knowledge creation and integration. To establish an effective and sustainable knowledge ecosystem inside the professional services firm, the paper argues for striking a delicate balance between the formal and informal parts of organization, as well as its KM system.

A systematic literature review of university-industry partnerships in engineering education

ABSTRACT Over the last few decades, a wide range of works have featured studies documenting successful pedagogic collaborations in the form of university-industry partnerships in engineering education. In light of this, we conducted a systematic literature review of these studies centred around five key research questions: (a) purposes of university-industry collaborations, (b) theories used to guide such work, (c) types of methods employed, (d) evidence-based best practices identified and (e) areas of future work to be explored. Publications were selected for inclusion by screening and appraising results obtained from databases and keywords refined through a scoping study. We conclude from our findings that future studies would benefit from better alignment with literature or theoretical frameworks and specific robust methods. Additionally, early and middle years of undergraduate engineering programs offer underutilised opportunities for partnership, in line with designing a more futures-focused educational curriculum.

Urban agriculture in California: Lessons learned from an urban farmer workshop series

Urban farming is an important component of California agriculture, but lack of agricultural census data or common definitions makes it difficult to track and understand. In 2017–2018, a team of University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) researchers and extension professionals developed a workshop series for urban farmers in California based on results of a prior needs assessment. After conducting 16 workshops in the state's largest urban centers, the team evaluated what participants learned and how they put their knowledge into action. The evaluation highlighted urban farmers' ongoing challenges and found that economic issues such as profitability and land access are some of the greatest barriers for urban farming in California. An unexpected positive outcome was the opportunity for participants to network and meet other farmers. Urban farmers expressed the need for more opportunities for mentoring and building partnerships with other farmers and organizations. Evaluation results suggest that California's urban farmers may be more diverse than California farmers as a whole, and that they are often beginning farmers.

Business Aviation Days: Mentorship and Partnership

Business aviation is a vital component of the U.S. economy, growing at a double-digit rate year-over-year since the pandemic, and offers many outstanding career opportunities for collegiate aviation program graduates. Despite the opportunities available, many students may need to be made aware of the options available in business aviation due to a lack of exposure compared to other aviation industry sectors. This paper describes one university’s efforts to advance understanding of business aviation through a new annual multi-day conference that has produced new partnership and mentorship opportunities that greatly benefit students and industry alike.

Youth engagement in research: exploring training needs of youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities

BackgroundAuthentic researcher-youth partnerships in patient-oriented research (POR) where the research responds to the needs expressed by youth themselves are essential to make research meaningful. While patient-oriented research (POR) is increasingly practiced, few training programs exist in Canada and none, to our knowledge, are tailored for youth with neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDD). Our primary objective was to explore the training needs of youth (ages 18–25) with NDD to enhance their knowledge, confidence, and skills as research partners. Our secondary objective was to identify the benefits and challenges of engaging youth with NDD in a POR approach.MethodsOur team of four youth and one parent with lived experience [Youth Engagement in Research (YER) partners] and six researchers engaged in POR to investigate the primary objective via two phases: (1) individual interviews with youth living with NDD and (2) a two-day virtual symposium with focus groups with youth and researchers. Collaborative qualitative content analysis was employed to synthesize the data. Our secondary objective was assessed by asking our YER partners to complete the Public and Patient Engagement Evaluation Tool (PPEET) survey and participate in reflective discussions.ResultsPhase 1 participants (n = 7) identified various barriers and facilitators to their engagement in research and offered suggestions to meet their needs through minimizing barriers and integrating facilitators, which would subsequently enhance their knowledge, confidence, and skills as research partners. Informed by phase 1, phase 2 participants (n = 17) prioritized the following POR training needs: researcher-youth communication, research roles and responsibilities, and finding partnership opportunities. For delivery methods, participants stated the importance of youth representation, using Universal Design for Learning, and co-learning between youth and researchers. Based on the PPEET data and subsequent discussions, YER partners agreed that they were able to express views freely, feel that their views were heard, and that their participation made a meaningful difference. Challenges included scheduling difficulties, ensuring multiple methods for engagement, and working under short timelines.ConclusionThis study identified important training needs for youth with NDD and for researchers to engage in meaningful POR, which can subsequently inform the co-production of accessible training opportunities with and for youth.

The US-China Chip War and Prospects for South Korea-India Semiconductor Cooperation

The US-China chip war is becoming more intense as both countries understand the significance of semiconductors for their economic security and national defense. As a result of nationalist and unilateral actions taken by the US and China under the chip war, other Asian economic powerhouses are reassessing their semiconductor strategies, leading to new opportunities for semiconductor partnerships in Asia among middle powers. South Korea, a leading semiconductor power in Asia, is facing critical challenges amid the chip war, that, in turn, resulted in reshaping its trade and overseas production strategies that are heavily reliant on China. To maintain its semiconductor dominance and ensure economic security, Korea is adopting new approaches such as export and production diversification. In the meantime, India, amid the ongoing US-China tech war, is also seeking to construct a resilient supply chain and decrease its reliance on China for imports. In the process, New Delhi is looking to develop its semiconductor industry and build chip ties with like-minded countries in production and workforce development. This opens up significant prospects for Korea-India semiconductor partnerships. This paper proposes three areas where Korea and India could collaborate: semiconductor trade partnerships, semiconductor production partnerships, and semiconductor workforce collaboration. By doing so, it highlights how the US-China chip war is creating new opportunities for other Asian economic powerhouses to collaborate in the semiconductor industry. This paper also provides insights for policymakers to set a new agenda for India-Korea partnerships as both countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2023.

Supporting Public Policy Engagement for Tenure-Stream Faculty of Color

In Short Colleges and universities can do more to support engagement in public policymaking among faculty of color. Institutional support for public policy engagement among faculty of color would increase the representation of people of color in policymaking settings and advance institutional goals (magnifying their impact and creating new opportunities for partnerships and funding). Recommendations for institutions to better support faculty of color’s policy engagement include formally valuing policy engagement, offering institutional support and protection from the consequences of public policy engagement, and providing resources for such engagement.

Attitudes Toward and Experiences With Discussing Pre-exposure Prophylaxis With Sexual Partners Among US Adolescents and Young Adults Living With HIV

PurposeSexual partners of youth living with HIV are a key population for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Among youth engaged in HIV medical care, we examined awareness of PrEP and experiences with and attitudes toward discussing PrEP with sexual partners. MethodsWe recruited 25 15–24-year olds from an adolescent/young adult HIV clinic to complete individual interviews. Interviews assessed demographics, PrEP knowledge, sexual behaviors, and experiences with, intentions toward, barriers, and facilitating factors to discussing PrEP with partners. Transcripts were analyzed using framework analysis. ResultsMean age was 18.2 years. Twelve participants were cis-female, 11 cis-male, and two transgender female. Seventeen participants (68%) identified as Black, non-Hispanic. Nineteen acquired HIV sexually. Of 22 participants who had ever had sex, eight reported condomless sex in the prior 6 months. Most youth (17/25) were aware of PrEP. Only 11 participants had discussed PrEP with a partner; 16 reported high intention to discuss PrEP with future partners. Barriers to discussing PrEP with partners included participant-related barriers (i.e., discomfort disclosing HIV status), partner-related barriers (i.e., not open to or unfamiliar with PrEP), relationship-related barriers (i.e., new relationship, lack of trust), and stigma about HIV. Facilitating factors included positive relationship factors, educating partners about PrEP, and partners being receptive to learning about PrEP. DiscussionAlthough many youth living with HIV were aware of PrEP, fewer had discussed PrEP with a partner. PrEP use by partners of these youth may be improved by educating all youth about PrEP and offering opportunities for partners to meet with clinicians to discuss PrEP.

Musyarakah Financing Contribution to The Profitability Of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI)

Financing products offered by Islamic banks are diverse, but the most popular one is the murabahah contract. However, the desired contract from Islamic banks is the musyarakah financing because it is the mainstay of the Islamic banking industry. The purpose of this research is to examine the contribution of musyarakah financing to the profitability of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). This study used a descriptive and verification method where the processed data were secondary financial reports with musyarakah financing and profitability variables, and Return on Assets (RoA) was used as the indicator. Financial data was taken from financial reports for three years, namely 2019, 2020, and 2021. The data were then processed using SPSS version 23.0 with a simple linear regression analysis method. The results of the study show that the musyarakah financing variable has an effect on the profitability of BSI. In conclusion, musyarakah financing is an ideal product for Islamic banks because it provides the same opportunity for partners to contribute in the form of capital or expertise.

CancerX: A national public-private partnership to boost innovation in the fight against cancer.

e13637 Background: In early 2022, President Biden reignited the Cancer Moonshot, setting new national goals to cut the death rate from cancer by at least 50% over the next 25 years and improve the experience of people and their families living with and surviving cancer. In its first year, the reignited Cancer Moonshot announced over 25 new programs, policies, and resources in pursuit of these goals. In February 2023, to mark the one-year anniversary of the new national goals, the Cancer Cabinet – the expert and interagency body responsible for setting the Cancer Moonshot agenda across government agencies – announced three new actions, including the launch of CancerX - a public-private partnership (PPP) to act as a national accelerator to boost innovation in the fight against cancer. Methods: Leveraging foundational work of Moffitt Cancer Center, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Digital Medicine Society (DiMe), and Moffitt Cancer Center have come together to establish and lead CancerX as an open, collaborative public private partnership effort to rapidly accelerate the pace of cancer innovation in the US. This builds on momentum of prior successful multi-stakeholder collaborations led by these founders to advance digital innovation to reduce the incidence and burden of cancer for all people. This multi-stakeholder success will characterize CancerX, with additional organizations driving innovation in the fight against cancer participating across initiatives. Results: To speed the development and optimize the impact of innovative solutions across the continuum of cancer care – including prevention, detection, treatment, and transitions in care – CancerX is comprised of three key initiatives: 1) Pre-competitive evidence generation: a rolling series of multi-stakeholder efforts will develop evidence, best practices, toolkits, and value models to drive the success of the mission. 2) Accelerator: This program will provide mentorship, education, and exposure to funding and clinical partnership opportunities to a start-up cohort aligned with the mission. 3) Demonstration projects: These implementation projects will pilot novel, mission-aligned approaches to demonstrate their value and sustainability for scale to drive broad adoption. Conclusions: CancerX provides a structure for organizations whose missions are aligned with the Cancer Moonshot goals to rapidly advance innovative solutions for success at scale. Through a multi-pronged approach focused on 1) commoditizing best practices and aligning incentives, 2) coordinating access to research, mentorship, resources, and other collaborative opportunities, and 3) demonstrating success in practice to drive broad adoption, this PPP will reduce the incidence and burden of cancer for all people.

Evolving academic and research partnerships in global health: a capacity-building partnership to assess primary healthcare in the Philippines

ABSTRACT Building fair, equitable, and beneficial partnerships between institutions collaborating in research in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) and high-income countries (HIC) has become an integral part of research capacity building in global health in recent years. In this paper, we offer an example of an academic collaboration between the University of California Los Angeles, Center for Health Policy and Research (UCLA CHPR) and the University of Philippines, Manila, College of Public Health (UPM CPH) that sought to build an equitable partnership between research institutions. The partnership was built on a project to build capacity for research and produce data for policy action for the prevention and care of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through primary healthcare in the Philippines. The specific objectives of the project were to: (1) locally adapt the Primary Care Assessment Tool for the Philippines and use the adapted tool to measure facility-level primary care delivery, (2) conduct focus group discussions (FGDs) to gather qualitative observations regarding primary care readiness and capacity, and (3) conduct a comprehensive population-based health survey among adults on NCDs and prior healthcare experience. We describe here the progression of the partnership between these institutions to carry out the project and the elements that helped build a stronger connection between the institutions, such as mutual goal setting, cultural bridging, collaborative teams, and capacity building. This example, which can be used as a model depicting new directionality and opportunities for LMIC-HIC academic partnerships, was written based on the review of shared project documents, including study protocols, and written and oral communications with the project team members, including the primary investigators. The innovation of this partnership includes: LMIC-initiated project need identification, LMIC-based funding allocation, a capacity-building role of the HIC institution, and the expansion of scope through jointly offered courses on global health.

Patterns and trends of equity, diversity and inclusion programs in academic libraries

Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) have been core values and top priorities for academic institutions in recent decades. This paper presents a review on EDI and their manifestations in strategic planning of academic libraries. Advocating and advancing EDI have been broadly recognized as initiatives that create partnership opportunities and have been supported by various library associations, such as the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the American Library Association (ALA), and the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) and Association of Research Libraries (ARL). The first section of this paper presents the initiatives and resources created by these library associations that provide example frameworks, roadmap, and planning for individual libraries to customize. The second section presents cases of EDI programs in the institutions that the author visited or studied for a professional development program in 2021–2022. The conclusion discusses recurring themes and initiatives. The findings outlined in this paper provide references, resources, and contexts for library leaders and the EDI team leaders to embark and sustain the critical journey of incorporating EDI values in their work and culture.

Strengthening mental health research outcomes through genuine partnerships with young people with lived or living experience: A pilot evaluation study.

Despite increasing support for stakeholder inclusion in research, there is limited evaluative research to guide safe (i.e., youth-friendly) and meaningful (i.e., non-tokenistic) partnerships with young people with lived experience of mental ill-health in research. This paper describes a pilot evaluation and iterative design of a Youth Lived Experience Working Group (LEWG) protocol that was established by the Youth Mental Health and Technology team at The University of Sydney's Brain and Mind Centre, based on the results of two studies. Study one consisted of a pilot evaluation of the extent to which youth partners felt empowered to contribute, to qualitatively explore how LEWG processes could be improved. Youth partners completed online surveys, and results were shared over two LEWG meetings in 2021 to empower youth partners to collectively identify actions of positive change regarding LEWG processes. These meetings were audio-recorded and transcripts were subsequently coded using thematic analysis. Study two assessed whether LEWG processes and proposed improvements were acceptable and feasible from the perspective of academic researchers via an online survey in 2022. Quantitative and qualitative data collected from nine youth partners and 42 academic researchers uncovered initial learnings regarding facilitators, motivators, and barriers to partnering with young people with lived experience in research. Implementing clear processes for youth partners and academic researchers on effective partnership strategies, providing training opportunities for youth partners to develop research skills, and providing regular updates on how youth partner contributions led to research outcomes were identified as key facilitators. This pilot study provides insight into a growing international field on how to optimise participatory processes so that researchers and young people with lived experience can be better supported and engaged to make meaningful contributions to mental health research. We argue that more transparency is needed around participatory research processes so that partnerships with young people with lived experience are not merely tokenistic. Our study has also been approved by and reflects the concepts and priorities of our youth lived experience partners and lived experience researchers, all of whom are authors of this paper.

Joint Knowledge Base: A Key to Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration

Knowledge sharing is a key to successful collaboration (online or in presence), and since collaboration is changing due to the increasingly emerging so-called “New Collaboration,” knowledge sharing should adjust accordingly: we call this New Knowledge Sharing. Organizations wishing to exploit the potential of New Collaboration need to understand how the new knowledge sharing and collaboration are related and, in particular, how they proceed, the very steps of their interwoven process. During our previous work, the concept of a Joint Knowledge Base (abbreviated to J.K.B.) emerged and became increasingly prominent as a key to knowledge sharing. Thus, in this paper, we will first revise and elaborate our concept of a J.K.B. in more detail. We will see how, on the one hand, when working on a shared task, each collaborator contributes to its construction and how, on the other, the J.K.B. functions as an interaction bridge, which is why it is a key to knowledge sharing. Secondly, we will describe different opportunities for partners in an interaction (team meeting, workshop, creative session, etc.) to contribute to the creation of a J.K.B. using so-called “Distributed Contribution Tools” (D.C.T.), which are standardized artifact-mediated interaction methods developed by E. Obeng. In particular, this second part will present 6 such D.C.T.s and explain how they contribute to the J.K.B. by means of a socially distributed production.

Girls’ Education at Scale

Abstract Many educational interventions boost outcomes for girls in settings where girls face educational disadvantages, but which of those interventions are proven to function effectively at large scale? In contrast to earlier reviews, this review focuses on large-scale programs and policies—those that reach at least 10,000 students—and on final school outcomes such as completion and student learning rather than intermediate school outcomes such as enrollment and attendance. Programs and policies that have boosted school completion or learning at scale across multiple countries include school fee elimination, school meals, making schools more physically accessible, and improving the quality of pedagogy. Other interventions, such as providing better sanitation facilities or safe spaces for girls, show promising results but either have limited evidence across settings or focus on intermediate educational outcomes (such as enrollment) or post-educational outcomes (such as income earning) in their evaluations. These and other areas with limited or no evidence demonstrate many opportunities for education leaders, partners, and researchers to continue innovating and testing programs at scale. We discuss three considerations for incorporating evidence-based solutions into local education policies—constraints to girls’ education, potential solutions, and program costs—as well as lessons for scaling programs effectively.
