Triple-A supply chains: unveiling the mediating power of collaboration and innovation on operational performance

Triple-A (agile, adaptable, and aligned) Supply Chain (SC) has been analyzed as a source of competitive advantage, but the influence of mediating variables in this relationship remains underexplored. This research seeks to advance the Triple-A SC framework by considering and testing the mediating effects of SC collaboration and innovation levels on the Triple-A SC–operational performance (efficiency and responsiveness) relationship. The research model was tested with PLS-SEM using a sample of 277 Spanish manufacturing firms with a minimum of 50 employees from 14 different sectors. The results show that SC collaboration and innovation levels significantly mediate relationships between Triple-A SC and operational performance. Additionally, collaboration level plays a more important role in responsiveness than efficiency, while innovation level has similar effects on both performance dimensions. This work contributes to knowledge on the impact of Triple-A SC on operational performance and alerts managers to the need to strengthen their levels of collaboration with SC partners and innovation over their main competitors.

Performance Mindfulness: Integrating ACT Matrix, Imagery and Mindfulness for Performance Enhancement

Mindfulness, imagery, and acceptance-based interventions have been widely applied within the sport and performance psychology domain. This paper presents a novel imagery method termed ‘Performance Mindfulness,’ which synthesizes insights from the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Matrix tool, the Physical, Environmental, Task, Timing, Learning, Emotion, Perspective (PETTLEP) imagery method, and principles of mindfulness. As existing imagery techniques are limited in effectively capturing the motivational and emotional dimensions of athletic performance, this integrated approach introduces a well-conceptualized, evidence-based framework rooted in Contextual Behavioral Science. This framework translates insights from the ACT Matrix into a practical tool within the imagery process and integrates principles of mindfulness to enhance the effectiveness of imagery. Performance Mindfulness is tailored for sport psychology practitioners who seek to incorporate acceptance and mindfulness principles into the mental preparation of athletes at various levels. The paper provides a detailed explanation of the technique, including concrete examples, and discusses its advantages and disadvantages comprehensively.

Analysis of Enterprise Internet of Things Maturity Models: A Review

Maturity models are valuable tools when assessing the readiness and progress of technology incorporation in organizations, providing information for decision-making, resource allocation, and competitive advantage. The Internet of Things is a technology paradigm of global importance, especially for organizations, as it supports productivity improvements, real-time analysis, and customer satisfaction. Therefore, adopting and implementing this technology in enterprises brings several challenges, such as technological, organizational, security, and maturity issues. However, secondary studies that systematically compile the existing literature on these specific mechanisms for the enterprise domain are still being determined. This article aims to address this knowledge gap by conducting a review to deepen and synthesize the existing knowledge. This research followed established methodologies and protocols to synthesize and analyze the state of the art in the area; 489 documents were retrieved from seven bibliographic databases, and, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 36 primary studies were selected. The results indicate that the typical structures of maturity models incorporate technological, organizational, human, performance, and security dimensions through graded levels that denote the sophistication of the Internet of Things. Measurement techniques and metrics vary from model to model. There are few empirical validations or standardized improvement frameworks. The main conclusion is that there is a diversity of models, dimensions, indicators, and methods and a need for more comprehensive, adaptable, and user-friendly tools to help companies assess their Internet of Things maturity and inform future development strategies.

Does empowering leadership behavior affect employee performance? The mediating role of workforce agility

PurposeWorkforce agility (WFA) is an emergent research topic in volatile times. However, there is a lack of research in understanding the leadership dimension that triggers such an attribute in organizations. Our study aims to understand the impact of workforce agility on empowering leadership behavior and employee performance dimensions (task performance, contextual performance and counterproductive work behavior).Design/methodology/approachWe collected data from 236 employees using reliable, validated scales and conducted various statistical analyses.FindingsOur results demonstrated that WFA (1) partially mediated the relationship between empowering leadership and contextual performance (CP), (2) has not mediated the relationship between empowering leadership and counterproductive behavior (CWB) and (3) mediated the relationship between empowering leadership and task performance (TP).Practical implicationsOur research has practical implications for management practitioners. It suggests hiring and developing an agile workforce through appropriate training and development programs can significantly impact organizational performance. Furthermore, it provides insights into building leadership capabilities that sustain workforce agility practices, empowering leaders to make informed decisions.Originality/valueOur research fills a significant gap in the existing literature by exploring the effects of WFA on leadership and performance. This novel approach provides a fresh perspective on the dynamics of organizational behavior, making it a valuable addition to the field.

Examining the triple impact of eco-intellectual capital on the financial, social and environmental sustainability performance of SMEs in emerging economies

The way business has been conducted in modern times has traversed the need to achieve financial gains. Globally, it has become imperative for organisations to thrive competitively on the basis of ecologically conciousness and sustainability. Hence, the primary aim of this investigation is to determine how Eco-Intellectual Capital (EIC) influences the sustainability performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The study made use of primary data and employed a quantitative research approach using a survey for data collection. The main data collection instrument used was a structured questionnaire. Data for the study were solicited from a group of 500 employees and owners managing SMEs in Ghana. Data collected from the questionnaires were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 24 and IBM SPSS AMOS (26.0) Graphics. The results showed that EIC had a favourable effect on the social and environmental dimensions of sustainability performance. On the economic (financial) dimension, however, the effect was not significant. Aside from magnifying Eco-Intellectual Capital and Sustainability Performance literature, this research study is one of the few that looks at how green human, structural and relational capital work together to improve the economic, social and environmental sustainability of SMEs in emerging economies.

A head‐to‐head comparison of situational judgment tests and assessment centers for measuring and predicting the same performance dimensions

AbstractTo date, a limited set of studies have compared the criterion‐related validity of low‐fidelity (SJT) versus high‐fidelity (AC) simulations for predicting job performance. Unfortunately, these studies validated these simulations through the overall assessment rating (OAR) instead of on the basis of specific dimensions. Given SJTs and ACs were compared that measured different dimensions, our understanding of the relative and comparative validity of these assessment approaches in measuring the same set of dimensions is still limited. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a head‐to‐head comparison of the criterion‐related validity of the AC and the SJT (and their incremental validity) while keeping the performance dimensions under investigation constant. Data were collected from 406 applicants for supervisory and management positions in a large Iranian steel industry company. In this process, a general mental ability test, a personality inventory, an SJT, and an AC were used as predictors, and supervisory ratings of job performance dimensions (Thinking, Feeling, and Power) served as criteria. The AC had relatively high validity for all three dimensions, whereas the SJT had a similar validity only for the Thinking dimension. So, the SJT was significantly weaker in assessing the Feeling and Power dimensions. These results were confirmed by incremental validity analyses. Overall, this study shows that understanding the relationships between predictor and criterion dimensions plays a critical role in developing valid selection systems.

Model texts as a feedback instrument in second language writing: A systematic review

The potential of model texts as a feedback instrument (MTFI) in second language (L2) writing has been explored for about two decades and continues to receive increasing interest from L2 scholars. However, to date, there is still an absence of a comprehensive review of studies in this particular area. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) procedure, this study aims to fill this gap by systematically reviewing 25 empirical studies on MTFI dating up to 1 April 2023, specifically focusing on three main aspects: study contexts, methodological characteristics, and primary areas of focus and key findings. The results revealed that existing MTFI studies (1) largely targeted low-intermediate English as a foreign language (EFL) learners at primary schools, (2) primarily adopted a quasi-experimental design involving a three-stage narrative writing task in a classroom-based setting, (3) predominantly focused on writing as a process, and (4) consistently reported MTFI’s potential for promoting L2 writing gains, especially in terms of lexical aspects. These results not only further our understanding about the effect of MTFI on different dimensions of task performance and L2 learning (i.e. L2 writing), but also provide some pedagogical implications for practices. Suggestions for addressing methodological issues in future studies are provided to advance this research domain.

Rapid QC-MS: Interactive Dashboard for Synchronous Mass Spectrometry Data Acquisition Quality Control.

Consistently collecting high-quality liquid chromatography-coupled tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) data is a time-consuming hurdle for untargeted workflows. Analytical controls such as internal and biological standards are commonly included in high-throughput workflows, helping researchers recognize low-integrity specimens regardless of their biological source. However, evaluating these standards as data are collected has remained a considerable bottleneck─in both person-hours and accuracy. Here we present Rapid QC-MS, an automated, interactive dashboard for assessing LC-MS/MS data quality. Minutes after a new data file is written, a browser-viewable dashboard is updated with quality control results spanning multiple performance dimensions such as instrument sensitivity, in-run retention time shifts, and mass accuracy drift. Rapid QC-MS provides interactive visualizations that help users recognize acute deviations in these performance metrics, as well as gradual drifts over periods of hours, days, months, or years. Rapid QC-MS is open-source, simple to install, and highly configurable. By integrating open-source Python libraries and widely used MS analysis software, it can adapt to any LC-MS/MS workflow. Rapid QC-MS runs locally and offers optional remote quality control by syncing with Google Drive. Furthermore, Rapid QC-MS can operate in a semiautonomous fashion, alerting users to specimens with potentially poor analytical integrity via frequently used messaging applications. Initially developed for integration with Thermo Orbitrap workflows, Rapid QC-MS offers a fast, straightforward approach to help users collect high-quality untargeted LC-MS/MS data by eliminating many of the most time-consuming steps in manual data curation. An overview of the psychological complexities in sports performance

Our special issue comprises a diverse collection of ten research and review articles, each offering unique insights into the psychological dimensions of athletic performance. From studies examining the role of resilience in overcoming extreme score shifts to explorations of the mental toll caused by external crises like the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflict, these papers provide a broad spectrum of perspectives. The issue digs into critical topics such as the influence of crowd dynamics, athlete-coach relationships, and the psychological challenges of breaking long-standing records, all while highlighting innovative methodologies like ecological approaches and creative non-fiction. Together, these ten papers underscore the complexity of the psychological factors that impact athletes’ success and well-being, offering both theoretical advances and practical applications for the sporting world.

Spaceborne SAR System Design Considerations: Minimizing Satellite Size and Mass, System Parameter Trade-Offs, and Optimization

The goal of this research is to assess and guide the development of next-generation synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, optimize their performance, and present the requirements related to the design parameters. In the current era, characterized by the rapid advancement of SAR technologies, the challenge of designing compact and efficient satellites is more relevant than ever. The present research provides a comprehensive analysis of design parameters for microsatellite applications, including altitude, incidence angle, operating frequency, antenna sizing, and transmitting power. The complex relationships between these parameters and their combined impact on SAR system performance and satellite dimensions are demonstrated through various scenarios. Special attention is given to balancing the SAR antenna area and the transmitting power needs, which are primary constraints in SAR microsatellite design. A detailed comparative study is presented, highlighting how each design decision affects the overall functionality and performance. Modern SAR satellites with masses under 150 kg can operate with approximately 1 kW of transmitting power and a 10 m2 SAR antenna area. The present results analyze and validate the key parameters related to these satellites, coping with the challenging trade-offs through optimization. Furthermore, this study aims to guide future innovative spaceborne SAR system design, highlighting the potential of optimization techniques in advancing spaceborne SAR technology.

Empirical study of robotic systems implementation to corporate performance in manufacturing sector

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the impact of implementing various robotic systems in logistics and supply chain management on corporate performance in Jordanian manufacturing companies, focusing on environmental, operational, economic, and social dimensions.Design/methodology/approachUsing a quantitative approach, data was collected through a survey questionnaire to measure the relationship between robotic systems and several performance dimensions. Various established constructs were employed, and the structural relationships were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess the complex interdependencies within the model.FindingsThe results of this study indicate that the adoption of robotic systems has a positive influence on the environmental, operational, economic, and social performance of Jordanian manufacturing companies. In contrast to prior research that revealed inconsistencies in the social dimension, our findings align with previous studies highlighting the benefits of robotics in logistics and supply chain management. However, it’s worth noting that this study did not uncover similar inconsistencies, particularly in terms of the impact on social performance.Practical implicationsThe study provides valuable insights for manufacturing companies considering the implementation of robotic systems, highlighting the need to evaluate the environmental, operational, social, and economic consequences. This understanding can help organizations make informed decisions to leverage the benefits of robotics for sustainable growth.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the growing literature on robotics in logistics and supply chain management, specifically focusing on the unique context of Jordanian manufacturing companies. By examining the multifaceted impact of robotic systems, this study extends the understanding of the role of technology in enhancing corporate performance.

Jordanian EFL Students' Views on the Impact of Online Learning on Their Academic Achievement and Self-Motivation

The research aims to explore Jordanian EFL students' views on the impact of online learning on their academic achievement and self-motivation. The study involved 1776 EFL participants from Al-Zaytoonah, Isra, and Middle East Universities in the academic year 2023-2024, out of which 388 were chosen randomly for sampling. Data gathering was facilitated through a validated survey, distributed both digitally via Google Forms and in printed forms. Collected responses were organized in Excel for analysis. The analysis process involved evaluating the data, focusing on participant demographics, and using frequency and percentage metrics. Both academic performance and self-motivation dimensions were evaluated through mean values, standard deviations, and the MANOVA test. The initially used 5-point Likert scale was restructured into three categories: low, moderate, and high. The results indicate a middle-range influence on the investigated domains, with academic performance taking a slight lead. Key influencing factors identified were gender and GPA. The effect of online learning on student outcomes was diverse, positively impacting collaboration, preparedness, and overall performance but showing limitations in areas like time management and assignment submission. Even though students expressed contentment in collaborative areas, the research highlighted gaps in intrinsic motivation and perceived relevance of tasks.

How does green manufacturing enhance corporate ESG performance? — Empirical evidence from machine learning and text analysis

Green manufacturing, widely recognized as a crucial avenue for companies to achieve sustainable competitive advantages, exerts significant spillover effects on both environmental protection and social responsibility. Accordingly, this can significantly enhance corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices and enhance overall ESG performance. This study focuses on Chinese A-share listed firms between 2009 and 2022, characterizing their ESG performance. Employing quasi-natural experimental methods, this research evaluates the causal relationships and specific channels through which green manufacturing enhances corporate ESG performance. The findings demonstrate that green manufacturing significantly empowers companies to strengthen their ESG performance. Channel analysis indicates that enhanced green innovation capabilities and the reduction of financing constraints constitute two critical channels through which green manufacturing facilitates ESG performance improvement. Further analysis indicates that all three subsystems in the green manufacturing system significantly empower companies to enhance ESG performance to varying degrees, with the most significant empowerment effect observed in the environmental dimension of ESG performance. The analysis below indicates that the enhancement of corporate ESG performance yields dual benefits, reflected in both economic gains and reputational enhancements.

Proposed enhanced gap analysis model for information systems sector (ISSERVQUAL)

Orientation: Gap analysis in the information system (IS) sector is difficult to assess.Research purpose: A gap analysis model based on SERVQUAL is proposed to assess the gaps in IS services.Motivation for the study: During coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there has been an extensive use of distant learning and virtual meeting applications. Yet, there is no well-documented way to evaluate the IS service provided.Research design, approach and method: The proposed model adds a performance dimension covering the main characteristics of IS services. The model is tested on the internet service providers in Egypt as a case study. A questionnaire for the proposed model is developed, validated and distributed.Main findings: The questionnaire is statistically analysed to find whether there is statistical difference between the expectation and the perception for each factor. Then the data are tested to find whether the gender of the respondents, internet service provider and the status of whether the respondent pays for the service themself have a significant effect on the gap scores or not. Finally, an ordinal regression fit is introduced to estimate the overall satisfaction of the customers based on their gap score.Practical/managerial implications: Despite SERVQUAL being an adequate tool to analyse the gaps for different services, it needs some adaptation to fit different services. One important drawback of SERVQUAL analysis for the IS sector is that the dimensions of SERVQUAL do not fully cover the customer expectations in the IS sector.Contribution/value-add: This paper attempts to fill this gap in the literature by introducing the ‘ISSERVQUAL’ model.

Rhythm and shift frequency of strategic renewal in Indonesian firm performance

PurposeThis study aims to explore how manufacturing firms in emerging economies can effectively adjust the rhythm and shift frequency between exploitation and exploration renewal. The authors also examine how these strategic adjustments can significantly boost firm performance, offering insights into the dynamic process of strategic renewal.Design/methodology/approachThis study analyzes annual reports of 127 Indonesian manufacturing firms from 2014 to 2019, applying both linear and curvilinear regression models to examine the hypotheses. Data on exploration and exploitation renewal were meticulously gathered using computer-aided text analysis, using targeted keywords to identify strategic renewal efforts.FindingsThe study shows that a rather irregular balance rhythm between exploitation and exploration renewal surprisingly enhances firm performance. A curvilinear relationship emerges as performance peaks when the shift frequency of renewal occurs about three times. This relationship optimizes the strategic renewal processes, emphasizing that firms need to remain agile and adaptable in today’s dynamic market environment.Originality/valueThis study leverages organizational learning to assess how the paradoxical dimensions of exploration and exploitation renewal impact firm performance. By focusing on the temporal transition of these tensions, it provides insights into optimizing the rhythm and shift frequency of renewal, transitioning from a static to a dynamic accord.

Neuropsychophysiological Aspects of Soccer Performance: A Bibliometric Analysis and Narrative Review.

In recent years, there has been growing scientific interest in the neuropsychophysiological aspects of soccer performance. The purpose of this study was to conduct a bibliometric analysis to identify and review key topics within the neuropsychophysiological dimensions of soccer performance and identify any research voids that warrant further attention. We retrieved 192 documents from the Scopus database and anayzed the extracted data using VOSviewer software to conduct a bibliometric analysis. We applied both performance analysis techniques (including the number of documents per year, top 20 authors by citations, and top 15 sources by documents) and science mapping analysis (co-authorship, bibliographic coupling, co-citation, and co-occurrence). The co-occurrence analysis identified three main clusters of research themes. The first cluster focused on the relationship between physical performance and cognitive factors, the second on technical-tactical performance, and the third on health and well-being. Our findings emphasize the significant role of neuropsychophysiological factors in all aspects of soccer performance. We highlight the importance of integrating cognitive and physical training to enhance player performance and underscore the need for further research to deepen our understanding of these relationships.

Examining the Complex Interaction Among Technological Innovation, Company Performance, and Occupational Safety and Health: A Mixed-Methods Study.

Technological innovation and Industry 5.0 are gaining increasing attention among researchers as they offer companies a significant competitive advantage. On the other hand, introducing these technologies also brings new risks for workers. The current literature reveals a lack of studies that effectively integrate occupational safety and health (OSH) within this emerging technological context and analyse the impacts of their use. This study aims to explore how companies interact with macro-level interventions that promote technological innovation and to understand their impact on different dimensions of company performance, including aspects related to OSH. Based on the existing literature, a research framework is presented that identifies the stakeholders involved, the inputs facilitating their interaction, and the cascading effects and changes. A mixed-methods approach was adopted by employing an in-depth survey with 89 companies responding and composed of both open-ended questions, to capture rich, qualitative insights, and multiple-choice questions, to gather quantifiable data. Two change levels have been identified: general changes and specific changes related to OSH. The analysis also delved into the main drivers and barriers that lead companies to engage with technological improvements and the multiple changes these interventions generate across company dimensions.

Rethinking Corporate Governance: A Comparison of Agency, Stakeholder, and Cognitive Approaches

This article analyzes three main theories of corporate governance: agency theory, partnership theory and cognitive theory. Agency theory focuses on control mechanisms designed to mitigate conflicts of interest between owners and managers. In response to the limitations of this approach, partnership theory broadens the perspective by taking into account a wider set of stakeholders, while emphasizing the need for ethical and collaborative governance. Cognitive theory, meanwhile, emphasizes the importance of learning and innovation in creating value within organizations. The article provides a comparative analysis of these three theories, identifying their convergences and divergences, as well as their relevance to current governance practices. This reflection shows that these theories, far from being mutually exclusive, offer complementary perspectives for developing more inclusive governance mechanisms, capable of responding to contemporary challenges while integrating the economic, social and cognitive dimensions of organizational performance.

Photonic Ising machines for combinatorial optimization problems

The demand for efficient solvers of complicated combinatorial optimization problems, especially those classified as NP-complete or NP-hard, has recently led to increased exploration of novel computing architectures. One prominent collective state computing paradigm embodied in the so-called Ising machines has recently attracted considerable research attention due to its ability to optimize complex problems with large numbers of interacting variables. Ising model-inspired solvers, thus named due to mathematical similarities to the well-known model from solid-state physics, represent a promising alternative to traditional von Neumann computer architectures due to their high degree of inherent parallelism. While there are many possible physical realizations of Ising solvers, just as there are many possible implementations of any binary computer, photonic Ising machines (PIMs) use primarily optical components for computation, taking advantage of features like lower power consumption, fast calculation speeds, the leveraging of physical optics to perform the calculations themselves, possessing decent scalability and noise tolerance. Photonic computing in the form of PIMs may offer certain computational advantages that are not easily achieved with non-photonic approaches and is nonetheless an altogether fascinating application of photonics to computing. In this review, we provide an overview of Ising machines generally, introducing why they are useful, what types of problems they can tackle, and how different Ising solvers can be compared and benchmarked. We delineate their various operational mechanisms, advantages, and limitations vis-à-vis non-photonic Ising machines. We describe their scalability, interconnectivity, performance, and physical dimensions. As research in PIMs continues to progress, there is a potential that photonic computing could well emerge as a way to handle large and challenging optimization problems across diverse domains. This review serves as a comprehensive resource for researchers and practitioners interested in understanding capabilities and potential of PIMs in addressing such complex optimization problems.

Organisational cyber resilience: a heuristic for bridging foundations and applications

PurposeThe drive for digitalisation has increased the scope of cyber threats which can exploit the growing footprint of information and communication technology infrastructure supporting modern societies. Despite substantial interest and efforts in researching and building organisational cyber resilience, the resulting body of work is heterogeneous and has yet to reach maturity. This paper aims to address the gap in the conceptualisation of cyber resilience in academic and practice-oriented grey literature.Design/methodology/approachIn this conceptual paper, we firstly seek to explore the available foundations of resilience as a construct and consider how these can be applied to organisational cybersecurity. To that aim, this study employs a targeted literature review approach, incorporating systematic elements to ensure rigour. Literature was identified through comprehensive searches in key academic databases, reference chaining and expert recommendations. Articles were selected based on relevance and contribution to the field, resulting in a thematic analysis to identify gaps and propose a heuristic model for cyber resilience. With this approach, we aim to position the emerging view of cyber resilience relative to risk analysis, while highlighting its domain of “conceptual comparative advantage” – the types of applications it is best suited to address. Finally, a high-level heuristic model for cyber resilience is proposed, which functions across the relevant policy, strategy and operational dimensions while also considering its relationship with cyber risk management.FindingsA conceptual model for organisational cyber resilience is proposed which helps position and frame research contributions in this domain relative to risk analysis, highlighting its domain of comparative advantage. The model integrates policy, strategy and operational dimensions, in a manner conducive to bridging foundations and applications of the concept of cyber risk management. The proposed model provides a critical point of reference to evaluate individual models, frameworks and tools.Originality/valueThis paper is a pioneering effort to overcome the current gaps between conceptual and practical views of cyber resilience. It proposes a new, risk-aligned view of the concept of cyber resilience and provides a structural foundation for further research and practice in the field.
