Preventing Collaborative Black Hole Attack in IoT Construction Using a CBHA–AODV Routing Protocol

Workers or labors who are working in construction sites are prone to severe risks such as death, injuries happened due to accidents, falls and stuck in between objects. Internet of things (IoT) based sensors can be utilized to monitor the behavior of workers when they are in danger zones/areas. To safeguard site workers, supervisors or site managers should monitor and alert them when they are in danger. Data will be routed from site worker to supervisor, during this routing process data is subjected to routing attacks such as black hole attack and so on, due to wireless transmission. This article addresses the problem of black hole attack that happens during the wireless transmission between nodes and the base station (BS) of IoT-based civil construction. The proposed solution Collaborative Black Hole Attack – Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector routing protocol (CBHA-AODV) prevents the collaborative black hole attack by 87.72%.

Comparative Study of Two Reactive Routing Protocols with Realistic Mobility Model

A Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) are dynamic wireless networks that can be formed without the need for any existing infrastructure in which each node can act as a host as well as a router. One of the main challenges of MANETs is the design of robust routing protocols that adapt to the frequent and randomly changing network topology. A variety of routing protocols have been proposed and several of them have been extensively simulated or implemented. In this study, we compare and evaluate the performance of two reactive routing protocols namely: The Ad-hoc On-Demand distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol, which is unipath and Ad-hoc On-Demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol. We observed that the results of AODV significantly outperformed that of the AOMDV in most cases contrary to the report that AOMDV outperformed AODV, but concerning in the literature that the selection of the mobility model has a significant impact the performance of the routing protocol.

Performance Evaluation of Cognitive Internet on Things Under Routing Attacks

Background & Objective:: In past few years, Cognitive Radio (CR) paradigm has emerged as a promising and revolutionary solution to avoid problems of spectrum paucity and inefficiency in spectrum usage. Efficiently utilization of the spectrum offers high network performance. CRs are proficient to identify and adopt the unused spectrum in order to allow secondary users to occupy it without interfering the primary user’s activity. Cognitive Internet on Things (CIoT) is an integration of several technologies and communication solutions which can be effectively realized as Cognitive Radio Adhoc Networks (CRAHN). In CRANH, on-demand routing protocols are the best suitable protocols due to their dynamic feature of available un-utilized channel/spectrum selection. Methods: Here, firstly, Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol has been modified and further evaluated to address route selection challenges in CIoT framework. Secondly, the effects on network performance under network layer routing attacks (i.e. blackhole attack, byzantine attack and flooding attacks) are evaluated. Conclusion: The simulations results demonstrate network performance increase with more channels and degrade differently under attacks.

In Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) the major issue between nodes for data transfer is link quality. The majority of the MANET routing protocols try to maintain the link quality between nodes but still need improvement. This paper focuses on link quality between nodes in an ad hoc network in emergency scenarios through the design of the Energy Priority and Link Aware Ad-hoc On Demand Distance Vector (EPLAODV) routing protocol. EPLAODV improves the link quality between nodes through SNR. For performance analysis, the NS2.35 network simulator was used. Simulation time and traffic load were the major simulation parameters. From the simulation results, it is observed that EPLAODV performs better than AODV.

Adaptation of Smart Antenna with AODV Routing Protocol for Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

In the recent years, Mobile Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks (MANET) have played a key role in communication system. It is a self-configured and infrastructure-less network. It is used in different application areas like disaster recovery operations, hospitals and agricultural sectors. However, there are a lot of problems that limit the performances of this network for significantly achieving its roles in different areas. To overcome these problems, this paper enhances the performances of MANET in wireless communication system by adapting smart antenna in Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol combining with multiple network interfaces. The improved new version AODV utilizing directional antenna and multiple network interface compared with Omni-directional antenna is evaluated based on simulations, which was done with the Network Simulator version two (NS2). Through this study, we found out that directional antennas integrating with multiple network interface throughput and end to end delays always outperform Omni-directional antennas in both random and grid scenarios for AODV routing protocol. In high communication paths and long communication distances also directional antennas have significant improvements in contrast to traditional Omni-directional antennas. Finally, we recommend that for increasing throughput and decreasing end to end delay utilizing directional antennas and multiple network interfaces in MANET technology improve the performances of the wireless communication system.

Secured Intrusion Detection System Energy Routing Protocol for Mobile Ad-Hoc Network

Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) works without any essentialsetupas required in the wired networks for its communication. Since MANETs lack a compact infrastructure type as its topology is dynamic, the major concern in this type of networks are the energy consumption in the routing and also they are prone to security issues in the networks as it lacks firewalls and sufficient software which fails to the data protection in wireless networks. To provide energy management and security to these networks types, many Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has been implemented earlier, that are focusing on either only the routing protocols or their efficiency, but they do not address the energy utilization and the security problems. In the proposed work, Secured Intrusion Detection System Energy Routing Protocol (SIDSERP) for mobile ad-hoc networks determines the best available route path, considering the energy utilization, also finds the alternate route path if the existing route path is malfunctioned, also provides the safety to the network by building an intrusion detection system. The proposed protocol work is carried out in network simulator-2 and comparison against the existing Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocols. The network performance metrics considered are the packet delivery ratio (PDR), throughput and energy consumption.

Performance Analysis of MANET under Rushing Attack

In this article performance analysis of MANET under rushing attack has been performed. It is mainly focused on the analysis of the effect of Rushing attack in MANET. Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol is considered as the routing protocol of MANET. This paper will analysis the various results that how the attackers affect the performance of the routing protocol in the MANET. Network Simulator NS2 (2.35) is taken as simulation tools for simulation purpose. Various node densities are considered as simulation parameters, which are used for analysis of AODV protocol under Rushing Attack. Analysis of performance is based on Control Overheads, Normalized Routing Overheads, Delay and Throughput.

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Improved AODV Based on TOPSIS and Fuzzy Algorithms in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks

The ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol is one of the most widely used routing protocols in VANETs. The AODV finds the shortest path that is not desirable in networks with high mobility. In addition, in the AODV, path request messages are broadcasted by the source and middle vehicles, which increases the routing overhead. However, in this paper, each vehicle selects the most reliable neighbors in order to send path request. This selection is based on the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution algorithm. As a result, the destination vehicle receives the most reliable paths and uses the fuzzy algorithm to select the best route from the perspective of failure among all received routes. Simulation results show that the proposed method has lower end-to-end latency and higher throughput than the AODV.

Hybrid Mobile Ad-Hoc Delay Tolerant Network for Optimum Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks

Due to some misbehaving nodes in Mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANETs), data is lost or false data is delivered. In order to detect and re-configure the path from the source to terminal, Ad-Hoc On- Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol is used. In existing method the black holes are generated due to the Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol. Hence a Delay Tolerant Network (DTN) is proposed to cope up with the black holes. In this paper, it is proposed to operate by forming hybrid network with MANET and DTN as MADT Network is to deliver the correct data with increased bit rate and low delay. The proposed Hybrid MADT network has been verified and the results show that the throughput of the proposed network is increased by 0.7%, the packet transmission rate is enhanced by 7% and the end-to-end delay is reduced by 4%.

Performance Evaluation of Secure Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Network Using Ad Hoc on-Demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol

In modern era, MANET i.e., Mobile Ad-hoc Network is a very powerful, interactive tool and useful resource for transmission/communication in computer networks. About composition of MANET, a collection of mobile nodes have the potential of creating self-maintaining and self-configurable network without having any centralized infrastructure i.e., MANET is a self-organized network without any infrastructure. Nodes in the network require energy for transmission of data after collapse of energy a node become inactive and it can’t participate in the communication. Due to exhaustation of energy the network becomes unstable. An unstable network requires extra routing process for coin out a route. In future security of MANET is a major challenge for smooth and efficient data communication. There are many protocols in MANET but in this paper, we discussed AODV routing protocol for data communication. In this paper a new algorithm is designed i.e., modified AODV with security constraint. This paper also gives the comparative study of original AODV and modified AODV.

Performance Analysis of Enhanced Ad-Hoc on-Demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol in Smart Environment

MANETs have specific features that can satisfy the mobility and heterogeneous requirement of the smart environment. Smart applications need high Mobility, Bandwidth, Reliability and less Packet Loss and Delays; therefore, it is important to provide good Quality of Service (QoS) in such applications. So there is a dire need of identifying and exploring the relevant protocols that may be adapted for IoT enabled the smart environment. The routing protocols in smart environments are accountable for connectivity among nodes, fairness, quality of service, etc. Protocol & path selection is the main strategies to design any mobile network. The chosen protocol must have the best in term of data integrity and data delivery. Hence the analysis of the protocols become an essential step. This paper presents various securities and safety-related issues of MANET-IoT system, and also advocate the requirement of enhancing routing protocols in a smart environment. In this research, a new enhanced cache update technique is introduced in MANET protocol to make it enable for the upcoming smart environment. The enhanced algorithm helps to detect the malicious node and remove the stale route present in the network, no matter which traffic mode is used and in which direction nodes are moving. Cache is upgraded in such manner that all nodes in the way are notified about the misbehaving node and its adjacent neighbors’ nodes will not use misbehaving node while searching for the route. Here the analysis has been done taking a various number of nodes. Packet Delivery and Packet Lost are two key parameters taken for analysis purpose.

Integrating African Buffalo Optimization Algorithm in AODV Routing Protocol for improving the QoS of MANET

A Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) is made up of wireless mobile nodes that do not require a central infrastructure or administration to establish a network. It is possible for the MANET nodes to function as a router or host. MANET works with an independent multi-hop mobile network which can be used in several real-time applications. Thus, an important issue associated with MANET is the identification of paths with high-level Quality of Service (QoS), like topology. The purpose of having a QoS-aware protocol in MANETs is to enable the discovery of paths that are more efficient between the source and destination nodes of the network and hence, the need for QoS. In this paper, a novel algorithm which can be used in the African Buffalo Optimization (ABO) to improve the QoS of routing protocol MANETs. With ABO, path selection is optimized in the Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol. Results of the test revealed that when ABO is used in AODV, delay and energy-aware routing protocol is manifested.

High-Quality in Data Authentication Dodging Massive Attack in VANETS

VANET plays an important role in the Security terms. VANET network is due to their unique features like as a high dynamic network (topology) and Mobility prediction. It attracts so much attention to the industry. VANET wireless networks are rapidly increased commercial and academic interests. Mobile connectivity, Traffic congestion management and road safety are some applications that have arisen within this network model. The routing protocol is a reactive type which means if there is data to be sent then the way will create. On-demand Distance Vector routing protocol is a generally used network topology based on rules for VANET. In surveyed of the routing protocol implemented a balance AODV method used for identifying the malicious nodes in the network. A balanced AODV routing method is defined with following characteristics:- (i) Use of threshold adaptive according to the network situations and balance index i.e node nature. (ii) Detect the malicious node in the network. (iii) Detection and prevention methods in real-time and independent on each vehicle node. In research paper, implement a B-AODV routing protocol and RSA method for detection and prevention the malicious node in the vehicular network. In this proposed algorithm, each vehicle node is employing balance index for acceptable and reject able REQ information’s (Bits). The consequences of the simulation tool in MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) indicates BAODV and RSA method is used to detect and prevent the flood attach and loss of network bandwidth. Comparison between AODV, BAODV, RSA in normal phase defines B-AODV is exactly matched with AODV in the vehicular network and performance analysis overhead, an end to end delay and packet delivery rate.

Novel Intrusion Detection and Prevention for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: A Single- and Multiattack Case Study

We present novel techniques to counter a set of active attacks, such as denial-of-service (DoS), probe, vampire, and user-to-root (U2R) attacks, in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) environment for a single- and multiattack scenario. Attacks are detected using a profile (behavior) analysis for single attacks and a distributed trust for multiattacks. A standard ad hoc ondemand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol has been used in a Network Simulator 2 (NS2) environment. We report a maximum accuracy of 87.75% for a single attack and 90.95% for a multiattack scenario.

Energy Preserving Secure Measure Against Wormhole Attack in Wireless Sensor Networks

A wireless sensor network consists of sensors having autonomous wireless communication with the ability to sense their surrounding conditions and an ability to connect to the Internet through a base station. In most cases, sensors are spatially distributed and, hence, must have a low cost; for this reason, they have limited batteries, computational ability, and memory size. Sensors’ restrained ability to implement common security measures makes them vulnerable to various types of attacks. Moreover, their applications are sensitive to delay or packets corruption, e.g., forest fire detection, disaster relief operations, and lots of other applications. Therefore, improving security is compulsory. There are various types of attacks targeting different network layers. One type is a wormhole attack that is a harmful and easily deployed attack that targets the routing layer. In this paper, a proposed energy preserving secure measure based on the network connectivity aims to detect the wormhole attack. The proposed measure is applied to the ad-hoc on-demand distance vector routing protocol and the experiment is tested using Network Simulator 3. The results state that the detection accuracy is 100% when the wormhole tunnel is of four hops or more in length. In addition, the method has no additional costs because it is not based on any plugged hardware, e.g., synchronized clocks or geographical positing system, as this makes this method appealing for the wireless sensor network environments.

A Balanced Energy Consumption in Mobile Ad hoc Network

Mobile ad-hoc network is a type of network, self-organized and self-configurable, very useful when it is not economically practical or physically possible to provide a wired network infrastructure. These futures make MANET becomes more and more used in many domains. However, this kind of network still suffers from various types of limitations. Among these limitations, and the biggest one is the energy consumption. The classical routing protocols proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), in its establishment of the routes, select the route that has a minimal number of hops between the source and destination, while they do not take in consideration the energy level or the lifetime of the intermediate nodes. In this work, we propose a solution, which is based on the Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol. In our proposed solution, we tend to obtain a sufficient result in terms of the stability and lifetime of the different path in the network, by adding the lifetime and residual energy among the selection criteria of the AODV routing protocol. The different simulation results show that our enhanced protocol outperforms EQ-AODV (Energy and QoS supported AODV) and the basic AODV by reducing significantly the energy dissipation, also enhances certain parameters of quality of service that are affected by the energy issue.

5G-enabled Hierarchical architecture for software-defined intelligent transportation system

With the rapid advancement of technology, an increasing number of devices are being connected to the Internet and getting smart. Such advancement brings new challenges in the field of intelligent transportation system (ITS), including transferring of high data rates, providing rapid response system to users, addition of new devices, and their remote configuration. Thus, mobile information systems, along with intelligent multimodal mobility services, cope with such constraints and take significant benefit of the associated technology from emerging information and communication frameworks. Therefore, recent advancement in the field of telecommunication has witnessed increased interest in ITS, especially vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETS). Software-defined networks (SDNs) can also bring advantages to ITS due their flexibility and programmability to the network via their logical and centralized control entity. However, the bandwidth and continuous connection between ITS and SDN is still a challenge owing to the highly mobile nature of VANETS. Therefore, to address this issue, this paper presents a novel concept for enhancing the capabilities of ITS via the newly proposed 5G-based SDN architecture for ITS. The proposed system architecture is based on the following three function layers: sensing layer, relay layer, and core network layer. Continuous accessibility, via flexible and programmable features, is achieved through SDN features. In addition, high data rates and bandwidth are provided by the proposed 5G architecture. The simulation results show that the proposed system architecture achieves better results than the ad-hoc on-demand distance vector routing protocol.

A Blockchain-Based Contractual Routing Protocol for the Internet of Things Using Smart Contracts

In this paper, we propose a novel blockchain-based contractual routing (BCR) protocol for a network of untrusted IoT devices. In contrast to conventional secure routing protocols in which a central authority (CA) is required to facilitate the identification and authentication of each device, the BCR protocol operates in a distributed manner with no CA. The BCR protocol utilizes smart contracts to discover a route to a destination or data gateway within heterogeneous IoT networks. Any intermediary device can guarantee a route from a source IoT device to a destination device or gateway. We compare the performance of BCR with that of the Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol in a network of 14 devices. The results show that the routing overhead of the BCR protocol is 5 times lower compared to AODV at the cost of a slightly lower packet delivery ratio. BCR is fairly resistant to both Blackhole and Greyhole attacks. The results show that the BCR protocol enables distributed routing in heterogeneous IoT networks.

On-demand route discovery in a unicast manner.

While having high bandwidth-efficiency, the ad-hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol suffers from high signaling overhead due to route request (RREQ) messages flooding, especially when the node density and the number of connections are increased. In order to resolve this broadcast storm problem of the AODV in a high node density mobile ad-hoc network, we propose a geographical on-demand route discovery scheme. Assuming a known location of the destination, the RREQ of the proposed routing protocol is propagated in a unicast manner by employing a novel parsing mechanism for possible duplicate RREQs. The routing overhead of the proposed routing protocol is greatly robust to the node density change. We derive the node density required for the proposed routing protocol to keep the same connectivity as the AODV under the circumstance where the nodes are uniformly distributed. In addition, we present an imaginary destination consideration method to incorporate the uncertainty of the destination’s location due to mobility. Computer simulations show that the proposed scheme enables the RREQ propagation to cover 95% of the one-hop communication area centered at the originally known location of the destination without sacrificing the unicast feature.
