The main aim of the article is to honor the memory of the Odessa famous historian, professor of the historical faculty Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University F. O. Samoilov (1947–2015) and to pay respect to him as an author of the well-known collection of memoirs «Novorossiya University in the memories of contemporaries», dedicated to the university during 1865–1920, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary from the day of publication. A collection of contemporaries’ views, on the events at the university witnessed by them, was published in the context of the growing of interest to the memoirs literature, when in the national historical science there has already been a number of positive changes that made scientists turn to the study of the history of everyday life, to include gender concepts in historical research, to increase interest in the person, in the subject of historical action. During the writing of the article about the collection of memoirs F. O. Samoilov, the authors used biographical and bibliographic methods of research. The source-base for the submission of the material was the original printed works that reflects the history of the Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University in the memories, written at that time by the lecturers and former university students, their friends and even relatives. Over the years, the interest in the personal life and mentality of the professors and students continues. For historians of science, everything is important, even small features and details that shed light on the higher education. In the dissemination of information through computer networks, a lot of text that were previously inaccessible: printed outside the country, in an emigrant environment, remained in a handwritten state in a variety of archives etc. and gradually are being released. The authors of the article have continued memoirs literature about Novorossiya University and now offer to expand the list of memories about the university, given in the appendix to the article, annotated with the list of publications, which for objective reasons were not included in the collection of memoirs.
