Abstract Energy-curves obtained with a photoelectric scanning spectrograph are given for two sub dwarfs, HD 19445 and HD 140283. Photoelectric infrared colors are given for ten additional subdwarfs and compared with infrared colors for ten normal main-sequence stars. The subdwarfs show an infrared color excess in addition to the previously known ultraviolet excess. These excesses are ascribed to the effects of line blanketing and indicate that the sub dwarfs are of a lower temperature than would be inferred from their B - V colors. As a result, the differences in luminosity between sub dwarfs and main-sequence stars should be decreased by O. .8 mag. On the basis of published parallaxes and proper motions, the subdwarfs are found to fall, on the average, about 1 mag. below the main sequence. Evidence is presented that suggests that the subdwarfs form a continuum with respect to chemical composition and luminosity.
