Environmental Performance Evaluation Using Green Construction Site Index (GCSI) for Residential and Non-Residential Building Construction

The realization of sustainable development is the responsibility of every construction element to carry out the prevention of development activities that have the potential to damage and cause environmental problems. Alignment of the ongoing construction project with the maintenance of environmental balance can be carried out through environmental management and monitoring in construction site. One of them, through an assessment and evaluation related to the implementation of sustainable construction, is one of the efforts that can be made to prevent environmental damage due to construction activities. The guideline or measuring tool is the Green Construction Site Index (GCSI) to evaluate six building construction which are grouped into two categories (residential and non-residential buildings). A quantitative measuring instrument to measure five elements consisting of waste minimization, sustainable green construction, resource management, understanding of construction waste and environmental performance on construction as parameters in the implementation of construction activities. The average values obtained from the two categories of buildings based on five elements respectively are 4.11, 3.94, 4.27, 3.85, and 4.20.

Model of Environmental Problems Priority Arising from the Use of Environmental and Natural Resources in Construction Material Sectors of Thailand

The factors used to calculate the Forward Linkage, Backward Linkage and Real Benefit are the Total Environmental Costs. The highest total environmental cost was Iron and Steel that needs to be resolved immediately because it uses natural resources over the carrying capacity, higher environmental cost than standard, and contributes low real benefit. Iron and Steel, secondary steel products and non-residential building construction need to be monitored closely because they are able to link to other production sectors more than other production sectors, and they have high environmental cost. To design the sustainable development strategy of the country, therefore, need to use the information in this research to support the decision.

Personne ne remet en cause qu’il faille construire plus de logements. Le consensus sur les besoins se situe aujourd’hui à plus de 400 000 unités par an. La quantité n’est pas tout. La question de la localisation s’avère cruciale. Certes, aucune partie du territoire, compte tenu des besoins de renouvellement, ne peut être négligée, mais l’accent doit être clairement porté sur les zones les plus tendues, là même où le recul des réalisations est le plus marqué depuis 2000. Si la pénurie de foncier est dénoncée comme la cause majeure de ce déficit structurel de logements et de ses conséquences en termes de prix du bien, il faut souligner a contrario qu’elle n’apparaît pas comme un obstacle à la construction de bâtiments hors logement. En clair, les élus privilégient la construction non résidentielle au détriment du logement pour des raisons purement politiques. C’est sur ce point qu’il est nécessaire de faire changer les mentalités pour s’atteler véritablement à un début de résolution de la crise du logement, restée trop longtemps cantonnée dans le domaine du discours. Financial position of building industry in Hajdú-Bihar County (E Hungary) in the period of 2008–2012: Regional sectoral analysis based on economic performance ratios

Abstract In this study the financial situation of leading Hungarian construction companies in Hajdú-Bihar County is analysed for the period of the economic crisis. The target group is determined by the amount of share capital and sales, thus it contains the most relevant regional companies. Their main activity is residential and non-residential building construction. The most significant purpose of the research is to analyse the changes of the comparative financial situation of these companies. Moreover, I specify the main characteristics of the regional sector, and determine the competitive advantages of the companies. The research method is based on annual financial reports. In order to evaluate the performance of the examined companies I use financial ratios concerning liquidity, efficiency, and profitability situation. At the end of the study I summarize conclusions and identify the most important consequences regarding the changing financial position of competitors.

Valorisation of waste ilmenite mud in the manufacture of sulphur polymer cement

This paper reports the preparation of sulphur polymer cements (SPCs) incorporating waste ilmenite mud for use in concrete construction works. The ilmenite mud raw material and the mud-containing SPCs (IMC-SPCs) were characterised physico-chemically and radiologically. The optimal IMC-SPC mixture had a sulphur/mud ratio (w/w) of 1.05 (mud dose 20 wt%); this cement showed the greatest compressive strength (64 MPa) and the lowest water absorption coefficient (0.4 g cm−2 at 28 days). Since ilmenite mud is enriched in natural radionuclides, such as radium isotopes (2.0·103 Bq kg−1228Ra and 5.0·102 Bq kg−1226Ra), the IMC-SPCs were subjected to leaching experiments, which showed their environmental impact to be negligible. The activity concentration indices for the different radionuclides in the IMC-SPCs containing 10% and 20% ilmenite mud met the demands of international standards for materials used in the construction of non-residential buildings.
