Use of Stereo Headphones for Patient Relaxation During Cataract Surgery Under Local Anesthesia

SUMMARY The use of stereo headphones to provide relaxing background music to patients undergoing cataract surgery under local anesthesia is described. This technique helps to relieve patient anxiety, reduces the amount of sedative medication required, obscures disturbing operating room noise, and facilitates teaching as the surgeon's comments are not allowed to disturb the patient.
