Implementing TPACK Framewok in English Language Teaching

This study aims to identify and describe the implementation of TPACK Framework in English Language Teaching in SMPN 4 Tanjungpandan, Belitung, Kepulauan Bangka Belitung. The research is a qualitative study. The participants of this research consisted of two English teachers from SMPN 4 Tanjungpandan and the students of nineth grade. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and documentation. Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is a framework for understanding the varied forms of knowledge necessitated by EFL teachers to integrate ICT in their teaching. The results of this study indicate that implementing TPACK framework in Englis classroom gives positive impact to the learning achievements both the teachers and the students. By integrating technology learning applications such as World Wall, You Tube apps, the learning process becomes interesting and enjoyable. The participation of the students increases significantly. In the future, TPACK Framework takes part in increasing the quality English Language Teaching in Indonesia.

THE INVESTIGATION OF PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE DIFFICULTIES AT NINETH JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

English learning in Indonesia, especially at the junior high school level has various obstacles. One of these obstacles is that students find it difficult in learning present continuous tense because students think that present continuous tense is similar to present tense. The aimed of this research is to describe students' difficulties in learning present continuous tense. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects of this study were 4 students consist of 2 female and 2 male nineth grade students of Al-Fattah Junior High School, Jember The instruments used include observation, interview and document review. The data obtained were analyzed using source triangulation and technique triangulation methods. The results of this study show that students have difficulty in making example sentences using the present continuous tense, difficulty in understanding the meaning of the present continuous tense pattern.

An Analysis of Teacher's Method in Teaching Reading Comprehension Through Online Learning

The study discusses about An Analysis of Teacher's Method in Teaching Reading Comprehension Through Online Learning. The objectives of this study were to: (1) to find out the teacher's methods in teaching reading comprehension through online learning at SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan, (2) to describe the teacher's methods in teaching reading comprehension through online learning at SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The source of the data was obtained from English teacher in SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan. The data was taken 2 English teacher who teach in seventh, eighth, and nineth grade, to find what is method in teaching reading comprehension through online learning used. Data was accumulated by the use of questionnaire and interview, even as observation became used to verify how the teachers put into effect the methods in the course of their teaching and getting to know process via online studying. There were found out the methods used in teaching reading comprehension through online learning .

Stem education and the learning of mathematics in vulnerable populations

Introduction: This article is the product of a project developed by UNIMINUTO in the nineth grade of the Educational Institution Simón Bolivar in “La Nohora” neighbourhood of the Villavicencio - Colombia, this project was executed during 2017 and 2018.
 Problem: The problem is the low academic performance of students in mathematics, in addition to multiple possible adverse situations they face as a vulnerable population.
 Objective: The objective is to have a positive impact on the academic performance of the students.
 Methodology: In the strategy development, STEM education was used to support the learning of math through six sessions were carried out your own classroom. The students solved challenges by programming robots.
 Results: Complete each challenge had an important attitudinal impact on the students, the joy and satisfaction of them were an unexpected result. A previous knowledge test was carried out at beginning and at the end of the sessions a formative test was applied too. Afterwards, the results of both tests were compared to evidence improvements in the students' mathematical skills.
 Conclusions: It was possible to provide the target population with an alternative to understand issues mistakenly considered difficult and to propose important playful and didactic moments in cognitive development.
 Originality: This article shows an educational innovation that the team of researchers will continue to apply. through new projects that allow financing the purchase of equipment and the logistics of the workshops.
 Limitations: Lack of strategic alliances that allow financing more meetings with students and the acquisition of more robots.

ANALISIS SOAL HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL (HOTS) BAHASA INDONESIA DALAM UJIAN SEKOLAH SMP NEGERI 4 DUMAI

This research is a teaching field research on the analysis of the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) type of exam questions for Nineth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 4 Dumai. The problem examined in this study is how many levels of HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill) questions are contained in the school exam questions. This type of research is quantitative. The source of the data in this study came from the document of the school exam questions for Indonesian subjects for nineth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Dumai for the 2019/2020 academic year, which consisted of 40 multiple choice questions. The results of this study indicate that 32.5% are classified as HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill) questions and 67.5% are classified as MOTS (Middle Order Thinking Skills)

Nineth Grade Students Mistakes when Solving Congruence and Similarity Problem

This research aims to know the difficulty level and the difficulties faced by students on congruent and similar problems. The test is taken from students’ mid-semester exam in march 2021. Students’ learning condition is under the coronavirus pandemic. This research uses a mix-method to process its data which are the qualitative and quantitative methods. The quantitative method is used to analyze the difficulty level and the qualitative method will explain the difficulties faced by students when solving congruent and similar problems. There are 9 questions given in this research that consists of 8 visual problems and one combined problem. The difficulties of the problems are four questions with easy difficulty and five questions with medium difficulty. The sample of this research is 61 9th grade students from SPMN 47, Bandung, Indonesia. The data is taken by using the google platform. The second data will be taken from teachers’ interview results following the analysis of students’ difficulties when solving congruent and similarity problems. The test result average is 64.77 and teachers’ interview result shows that the poor test result is because teachers are not prepared with the teaching condition during the coronavirus pandemic. A recommendation for teachers is that they can improve their ability by integrating technology in mathematics.

THE EFFECT OF APPLYING PLANTED QUESTION ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT OF NINETH GRADE OF SMP PABAKU STABAT

The study is concerning with experimental study which discussed the effect of planted question technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. It took place at SMP Pabaku Stabat. The subjects were the nineth grade students with the population of 132 students. 60 students were chosen as the sample and group into experimental and control group. Each group consisted of 30 students. The experimental group was taught with planted question technique while the control one was taught without planted question technique. A writing test was used to collect the data on the students’ writing ability. The data collected were analyzed by using t-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the t-observed was 6,53. It was higher that the value of t-table (tt) is 1,67 for 5% and 2,39 for 1%. This meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that there is effect of planted question technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text of nineth grade of SMP Pabaku Stabat.

ANALISIS MINAT BELAJAR MATEMATIKA SISWA SMP KELAS IX PADA MATERI GRAFIK FUNGSI KUADRAT BERBANTUAN SOFTWARE GEOGEBRA

The purpose of this research’s to analyze students interest in mathematical leaning by the matery Grafik Fungsi Kuadrat (Graphs of Quadratic Functions) assisted by GeoGebra sofware. In this research, the researcher used descriptive research method, descriptive research method is the research that generates descriptive data through the percentage of student answers that contain 5 indicators of learning interest scale students by given poll. The population of this research were 28 students of nineth grade of SMP Bingkai Cendikia Cililin. Research data were collected by using the scale of learning interest of students in GeoGebra sofware assisted with mathematics learning that contains 20 questions each 10 positive and negative questions. The result of the data analysis could be concluded that there is a positive impact on students interest in learning mathematics assisted with GeoGebra sofware. The result of the data analysis showed by the average percentage of answers of students who agree of positive statement’s 49%, then the response of agree average of 67%, and then disagree response’s 10,8%, while for strongly disagreeing responses of 6.5%.

Problems with graphomotorics at the beginning and the end of primary education

The study monitors two phenomena of graphomotor problems among children at the beginning and the end of primary education. The study has a character of piloting. A series of seven graphomotor tasks were submited to preschoolers (n = 51) and in the ninth grade (n = 22). For each task, tremor and number of hand move interruptions were considered as indicators of graphomotor difficulties. The results showed that the tremor was detected at 33.3% to 78.4% of preschoolers and at 18.2% to 59.1% of ninth grade pupils. In both groups, the tremor was the least prevalent in the ‘teeth’ task and the most frequent in the ‘double upper-lower loop’ task. The prevalence of tremor in the solution of graphomotor problems decreases with age, the difference is statistically insignificant. Contrary to the expectations, more interruptions were found at nineth grade pupils. Based on the study results, we recommend to note in the instruction that the templates are ‘straight lines’.

The Effect of Round Table Technique On Students’ Ability In Writing Report Text of Nineth Grade Of SMP Pabaku Stabat In Academic Year 2018/2019

This research is conducted in order to improve students’ writing ability uing Round Table Technique at Nineth grade of SMP Pabaku Stabat. The study is concerning with experimental study which discussed the effect of round table technique on students’ ability in writing report text. It took place at SMP Pabaku Stabat. The subjects were the nineth grade students with the population of 132 students. 72 students were chosen as the sample and group into experimental and control group. Each group consisted of 36 students. The experimental group was taught with round table technique while the control one was taught without round table technique. A writing test was used to collect the data on the students’ writing ability. The data collected were analyzed by using t-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the t-observed was 7,24. It was higher that the value of t-table (tt) is 1,66 for 5% and 2,38 for 1%. This meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that there is effect of round table technique on students’ ability in writing report text of nineth grade of SMP Pabaku Stabat in academic year 2018/2019.

Building Grit: The Longitudinal Pathways between Mindset, Commitment, Grit, and Academic Outcomes

Despite academics’ enthusiasm about the concept of grit (defined as consistency of interest and perseverance of effort), its benefit for academic achievement has recently been challenged. Drawing from a longitudinal sample (N = 2018; 55.3% female; sixth–nineth grades) from Finland, this study first aimed to investigate and replicate the association between grit and achievement outcomes (i.e., academic achievement and engagement). Further, the present study examined whether growth mindset and goal commitment impacted grit and whether grit acted as a mediator between growth mindset, goal commitment, and achievement outcomes. The results showed that the perseverance facet of grit in the eighth grade was associated with school achievement and engagement in the nineth grade, after controlling for students’ conscientiousness, academic persistence, prior achievement and engagement, gender and SES, although the effect on engagement was stronger than on achievement. In addition, grit was predicted by goal commitment in the sixth grade, but not by the growth mindset in the sixth grade. Finally, the perseverance of effort (not the consistency of interest) mediated the effect of goal commitment on engagement. These findings suggest that grit is associated with increased engagement and academic achievement; and practitioners who wish to improve grit of adolescents may encourage goal commitment more than growth mindset.

ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN PENALARAN MATEMATIS SISWA MTS DI KABUPATEN CIANJUR PADA MATERI TEOREMA PYTHAGORAS

This article is an analysis of the results of the test mathematical reasoning of grade IX students of Junior High School. The analysis focused to identify and recognize the qualities of difficulties experienced by students and to autheticate the mathematical reasoning level at the nineth grade students of junior high school in Kabupaten Cianjur. Qualitative descriptive is used as the research method. The samples brought for this research are 19 students of class IX in one of junior high school in Kabupaten Cianjur. Instrument test of reasoning ability of mathematic given as many as 6 items. The output of the analysis obtained based on written tests conducted is the degree of ability mathematical reasoning at students of junior high school in Kabupaten Cianjur is still classified low.

Consequences of Bullying on Adolescents’ Mental Health in Germany: Comparing Face-to-Face Bullying and Cyberbullying

The present study explored whether face-to-face bullying (physical as well as relational), cyberbullying, and teachers’ bullying have a negative impact on adolescent’s mental health and whether there are gender differences. Analyses are based on a representative cross-sectional standardised survey of 10,638 students of the nineth grade of one federal state of Germany. Findings show that psychological cyberbullying is most strongly associated with poor mental health for both boys and girls. Relational bullying by classmates as well as by teachers also show a significant correlation with poor mental health. For girls, there appears to be an additional relationship between sexual cyberbullying and mental health. Physical forms of bullying were not found to be associated with mental health. Implications for research are discussed.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TRADING PLACE STRATEGY TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN READING COMPREHENSION OF REPORT TEXT AT EIGHT GRADE OF MTS S. AL-HUSNA MARINDAL MEDAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019

The objective of this research is to find out the improvement of the students’ ability in reading the report text by using the trading place strategy. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (Arikunto, 2006). The subject of this study was the nineth grade students in MTs S. AL-Husna, Medan, in academic year 2016/2017. The class consisted of 30 students. The data were taken from the students’ score, observation sheet, diary notes and documentation. Based on the reading tests, the students’ score kept improvement in every test: from pre-test to post test of cycle I and post test of cycle II. The improvement can also be proved by the result of observation sheet and diary notes. Therefore, It was found that teaching reading the report text by implementing the trading place strategy could improve the students’ ability in reading comprehension of the report text.

CLASSROOM INTERACTION ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH CLASS IN SMPN 2 BABALAN

The purpose of this study was to find out the types of interaction, the percentage of teacher talk and student talk and the dominant characteristic of interaction which appeared during teaching-learning process in SMP N 2 Babalan in 2016/2017 academic year. This study used descriptive design. The subjects of this study were three classes. One class of the eighth grade and two classes of the nineth grade. The data were analyzed by using Flanders Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS). The instruments of collecting data were audio and video recording. The analysis showed that all of the ten types of interaction appeared. The percentages of each types of interaction were: (a) accepting feeling: 0.41%; (b) praising and encouraging: 9.97%; (c) accepting students’ ideas: 0.22%; (d) asking question: 26.26%; (e) lecturing: 4.70%; (f) giving direction: 13.25%; (g) criticizing: 2.21%; (h) tudents talk response: 39.35%; (i) student talk initiation: 1.10%; (j) silence and confusion: 1.93%. Teacher talk percentages were 60.98% in class 8-1, 51.62% in class 9-2 and 61.15% in class 9-5. And the student talk percentages were 37.31% in class 8-1, 47.29% in class 9-2 and 20.09% in class 9-5. The dominant characteristic of interaction was content cross, which means that the teacher focused on giving questions and giving materials. From the results, the researcher concluded that the teacher was dominant in the classroom during the teaching-learning processes.Keywords: Classroom Interaction , Flanders Interaction Analysis Category System (FIACS). MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS CERPEN MELALUI IKLAN TELEVISI PADA SISWA KELAS IX-A SMP NEGERI 3 BALIKPAPAN

The purpose of this study is to see the effectiveness of TV adverts to improve ability on writing short story. Adversts broadcast in TV are used as exposures and writing short story is the focus of learning object. The study uses classroom action research as the research design and assigns the nineth grade students of SMPN 3 Balikpapan as the subject. The study is conducted in two cylcles with two meeting each. The study reveals that adverts as the media is effective to teach short story. Learning activities indicate enthusiasm and students are eager to learn. The activities increase from cycle I and achieve optimum result on cycle II. The result of achievement in the cycles is also satisfied that raise significantly from cycle I to cycle II. The study evidently reveals that TV adverts are meaningful to improve ability to write short story.

Scaffolding mathematical modelling with a solution plan

In the study presented in this paper, we examined the possibility to scaffold mathematical modelling with strategies. The strategies were prompted using an instrument called “solution plan” as a scaffold. The effects of this step by step instrument on mathematical modelling competency and on self-reported strategies were tested using nineth grade students (N = 91) at a German middle track school (Realschule) in a quasi-experimental design. Six classes were randomly assigned to the experimental group, in which students used the solution plan, or to the control group. The quantitative data analysis using ANOVAs reveals that (1) in the posttest the experimental group students reported more frequently about planning, rehearsal, elaboration and organizing strategies while solving modelling problems than the control group; (2) the “solution plan” as a scaffold supports the development of students’ modelling competency, including its sub-competencies. The students who used the solution plan outperformed the other students in solving modelling problems concerning the topic “Pythagorean theorem”.

أثر برنامج تعليمي قائم على المدخل الوظيفي في تحسين مهارات القراءة الناقدة لدى طلاب الصف التاسع الأساسي في الأردن

The current study aimed at investigating the effect of a functionally-based Instructional program on developing tenth grade students' critical reading skills. To achieve the aim of the study, the researchers designed a functionally-based instructional program, and a test consisted of 12 multiple choice items to measure the critical levels of reading. The sample of the study consisted of 56 students from Beit Yafa secondary school for boys in Irbid first directorate of education for the academic years 2010- 2011. They were chosen purposefully: 28 of them represented the experimental group and the other 28 represented the control groupe. The result of the study revealed that there were statistically significant differences in the test of critical reading due to the way of teaching and in favor of the experimental group (Instructional program). هدفت هذه الدراسة الكشف عن أثر برنامج تعليمي قائم على المدخل الوظيفي في تنمية مهارات القراءة الناقدة لدى طلاب الصف التاسع الأساسي. ولتحقيق هدف الدراسة صمم الباحثان برنامجاً تعليمياً قائماً على المدخل الوظيفي، واختباراً تكون من 12 فقرة من الاختيار من متعدد لقياس مهارات القراءة الناقدة. تكونت عينة الدراسة من (56) طالبا من طلاب الصف التاسع الأساسي في مدرسة بيت يافا الثانوية الشاملة للبنين التابعة لمديرية التربية والتعليم لإربد الأولى، وللعام الدراسي 2010-2011، اختيرت بطريقة قصدية ميسرة، وقد قسم الأفراد إلى مجموعتين: (28) طالبًا في المجموعة التجريبية، و(28) طالبًا في المجموعة الضابطة. وأظهرت النتائج وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في اختبار القراءة الناقدة، تعزى لأثر طريقة التدريس، وجاءت الفروق لصالح الطريقة التجريبية (البرنامج التعليمي).
