SUMMARY Two species of the genus Pustulina, P. cupularis and P. gaillardiana comb. nov., have been described and illustrated. The description of P. cupularis is based on the study of Fung. rhen. No. 1878, Peziza cupularis L., in FH which has been designated the neotype specimen of this species. Three Indian collections of P. cupularis, made by the authors, have also been compared with the type. Pustularia patavina, on the basis of the study of type specimen No. 1777 Pexiza patavina from PAD, has been shown to belong to the genus Leucoscypha. It was recently pointed out by Eckblad (1968) that the generic name Pustularia Fckl. is illegitimate, as it is a later homonym of Pustularia Bonorden, a genus of pyrenomycetes. A new generic name, Pustulina Eckblad, was therefore proposed to replace Fuckel's name. The replaced synoym Pustularia was accepted in the sense of Nannfeldt (1938) with Peziza cupularis L. ex Fr. as its lectotype. The genus was included in a new family Otideaceae along with the genera Otidea (Pers.) Bon., Geopyxis (Pers. ex Fr.) Sacc., Sowerbyella Nannf. and Ascosparassis Kobayasi. The proposal of Pustulina as an avowed substitute for Pustularia Fckl. was, according to Prof. Nannfeldt (pers. comm.), unfortunate as the type of the old genus automatically became the type of Eckblad's genus. The identity of Peziza cupularis of Linnaeus or Fries seems impossible to establish as no specimens studied by either of them appear to be extant. It is necessary to designate a neotype specimen for Peziza cupularis and Prof. Nannfeldt is of the opinion that since the epithet cupularis has to be used, it must be based on Fuckel's interpretation, whose concept of this species is exemplified in the material distributed by him in (pers. comm.). The authors therefore designate Fungi rhenani No. 1878 in the Farlow Herbarium (FH) of Harvard University as the neotype. 1Sixth contribution in the series Ascomycetes of India.
