Abstract

The lectotype or neotype specimens of these four species are redescribed and illustrated as part of an attempt to stabilize species concepts in the haemaphysalid subgenus Kaiseriana Santos Dias. Several species in the subgenus Kaiseriana Santos Dias of the ixodid genus Haemaphysalis have long been confused taxonomically or difficult to recognize with certainty owing to informal descriptions and illustrations in earlier literature. In an attempt to stabilize species concepts in this group, a lectotype or a neotype specimen has been selected for a number of taxa (Trapido, 1965) and these critical representatives of four species are redescribed and illustrated herein. Literature citations are restricted to those referring to the original descriptions and to the subsequently designated lectotype or neotype specimens. Haemaphysalis (Kaiseriana) bispinosa Neumann
