Research on the Teaching Practice of "Red Song" in High School Music Classroom

Under the current trend of education, the importance of music is constantly highlighted. After the implementation of the "Double Reduction" policy, the status of music courses in primary and secondary schools will only increase in the future. If we want to implement the teaching of red songs in schools and give full play to the role of red song teaching, we need teachers not only to have strong red thoughts, but also to have good teaching ability. The Music Curriculum Standards have been promulgated and implemented for many years. Most music teachers in primary and secondary schools only teach according to the standards, following the requirements on the surface, and the curriculum design is often boxed, ignoring the richness and interactivity of the music curriculum content. Among them, the teaching mode of the red song section is often too rigid, resulting in the curriculum objectives cannot be well accomplished, and the students' impression of the red song only stays on the surface of "having heard" and "having learnt". If the teaching design of red songs in high school music class pays attention to and thinks about, upgrading the teaching effect, not only can broaden the students' musical horizons, at the same time, it can enrich their patriotic feelings, and it can stimulate the students' national pride, which is quite useful. This paper adopts the method of analyzing lesson examples to find out the unique advantages in the lesson examples, and re-design the curriculum to put forward some of my meagre teaching suggestions for the majority of high school music teachers, so that the teaching practice of red songs can deepen the development.

Educating Traditional Cultural Values In Sustainable Development for Students Through Current World Cultural Heritage in Vietnam

Objectives: The aim is to focus on educating traditional cultural values in sustainable development for Vietnamese students through world cultural heritages in Vietnam in order to raise awareness, patriotism, national pride, and awareness of preserving traditional cultural values. Material and methods: The study uses two main methods: theoretical research and practical research, which focus on observation and experiments to evaluate the overall data. Results: The research results show that education through world cultural heritage is highly appreciated in terms of content and methods to help students understand history and culture more deeply, forming a positive lifestyle and developing students' awareness and courage. The research results show the role of combining and strengthening practical activities at heritage sites, organizing seminars, and using modern technology to improve the quality of heritage education for Vietnamese students in universities in Vietnam today. Contribution: Understand the need to enhance the combination of practical activities at heritage sites, organize seminars, and use modern technology to promote traditional cultural values in sustainable development by improving the quality of heritage education for Vietnamese students in universities today.

METHODOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR FOSTERING PATRIOTIC EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF KAZAKHSTAN'S HISTORY, USING THE WORKS OF BAURZHAN MOMYSHULY

Bauyrzhan Momyshuly has become a symbol of valor and patriotism for the Kazakh populace. Renowned as a hero of the Great Patriotic War, he also bequeathed an irreplaceable legacy to Kazakh literature as a writer. His works advocate for ethical principles, valor, accountability, and patriotism. The matter of patriotic education is currently of significant relevance. In the age of globalization, the safeguarding of national identity and spiritual values becomes paramount. Fostering national pride andrespect for one's country and territory in the youth has emerged as a crucial objective. In this perspective, the contributions of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly are significant. His works exalt timeless ideals, like the defense of one's homeland and the preservation of national pride. This study explores the importance of patriotic education in the writings of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly and evaluates pedagogical approaches for its instruction. The esteemed author's legacy presents excellent methods for fostering love for one's nation and patriotism among youth. The profound patriotic lessons and moral exemplars in his writings significantly contribute to the spiritual growth of the youth. The works of Momyshuly serve as a great resource for national education, transmitting ideals throughout generations.

Sustainability Spectacle in the Gulf

The Gulf states have become home to many spectacular environmental sustainability projects, ranging from new infrastructure like solar parks and green cities to global events like the COP28 climate talks in Dubai. These projects are designed to be visually impressive and to illustrate the Gulf commitment to building a post-oil “green” future. Increasingly used to promote nationalist pride among Gulf citizens, symbols of green modernity are also used to recruit valuable knowledge workers to the region. Yet sustainability spectacle ultimately obscures Gulf state leaders’ refusal to shift their economies and political systems away from fossil fuels, while simultaneously justifying yet more unsustainable development—just with a new green label.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ARCHITECTURAL MONUMENTS IN INCREASING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HISTORY LESSONS

This article is devoted to the issue of using materials about architectural monuments to enrich students' historical knowledge and develop their sense of national pride. The article contains brief information about the historical monuments of the 18th-19th centuries available in Uzbekistan, which are associated with a certain era and events, the possibilities of using illustrative materials, excursions for the intellectual and spiritual and moral development of students are considered.

Islamov's work combines artistic brilliance, historical depth, and emotional resonance, reflecting national pride and unity.

Data, Development and Democracy: The Political Economy of the Indian Census

India’s ability to conduct large-scale modern scientific exercises such as decennial population censuses with clockwork precision and unparalleled regularity is widely regarded as a source of collective national pride. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the regular schedule of the census, and it is not clear when the indefinitely postponed 2021 Census will be held. The present study uses this pause to explore the evolution of the Census of India and examine the quality of its data over the past few decades followed by a discussion of potential reforms including rationalisation of schedules to adapt the exercise to meet emerging challenges.

Radio Malaysia in 1978: Broadcasting Nationalist and Patriotic Ideas in Primary Schools Through Songs

Patriotic songs serve as symbols and catalysts of national identity. These songs, ranging from the national anthem "Negaraku" to a diverse repertoire of unofficial anthems, have played a crucial role in shaping the nation's cultural landscape and fostering a sense of unity among its diverse population. The popularity of these patriotic songs can be traced back to the nation's independence in 1957, when citizens had to learn the newly composed national anthem. The newly formed nation would require symbols that function as a catalyst for the realisation of Malaysia. The introduction of radio music education in Malaysian public schools in 1946 marked a significant milestone, as it allowed for the systemic dissemination of patriotic songs through the Radio Pendidikan (Radio Education) program. This program broadcasted songs to primary school students, exposing the younger generation to expressions of nationalism and patriotism through song. Through a thematic content analysis of the songs featured in the Radio Pendidikan 1978 program, the objective of this article aims to explore how the underlying themes of nationalism and patriotism were reflected in these musical compositions. The findings contribute to the understanding of the intersection between music, education, and nation-building; implicating the powerful influence of patriotic songs in uniting a diverse population and fostering a strong sense of national pride.

Emotions of Russians in 2014–2024

The article presents the results of analyzing data from the 2014–24 all-Russian public opinion polls on 16 emotions experienced personally and observed in others. The hierarchy and dynamics of mean values of positive and negative emotion indices were investigated. Changes in distinct emotions in 2020–24 were assessed using regression analysis. It has been found that pride and other self-esteem emotions are well expressed in the Russian emotional climate, both in self-reports and in responses about other peoples feelings. In 2014–22, national pride was inferior to collective resentment in the hierarchy of emotions; subsequently, the ratio reversed. In 2020–21, during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant exacerbation of negative emotions, such as frustration, antagonistic feelings, and fatigue. Particularly significant was the increase in negativity observed by respondents in their social environment. Contrary to our expectations, the polling data for 2022–24 did not reflect a surge of negative emotions in connection with Russia’s military actions against Ukraine. Frustration levels rose briefly in the spring of 2022; new spikes weren’t recorded thereafter. Mentions of depression and antagonistic emotions have become significantly rarer in this period; positive emotions increased dramatically and began to dominate over negative ones. Psychological arousal is mainly related to the strengthening of collective self-esteem. Secondary trends indicate psychological and moral discomfort of a small part of Russians at this time. Survey data indicate an increased level of collective shame and confusion recognized in other people. One more feature is the reduced level of individual self-esteem.

Borders of belonging: how Chinese nationalism constructs exclusion in the age of populism

This paper investigates how state-led and popular nationalism in China construct borders as tools of exclusion, reinforcing national identity amidst global populist movements. Using the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a case study, the analysis examines Global Times articles and corresponding user-generated content to reveal how geopolitical, ideological, and emotional borders are created and maintained through nationalist discourse. State-led nationalism emphasizes cooperation and diplomacy, framing borders to position China as a global leader promoting shared prosperity. In contrast, popular nationalism—expressed through user-generated comments—manifests in a confrontational, exclusionary discourse that delineates China from external adversaries, particularly Western powers. Through a mixed-methods approach—combining word frequency, sentiment, and emotional categorization using the NRC Emotion Lexicon—this study uncovers key differences between the two forms of nationalism. State narratives construct inclusive borders that foster international engagement, aligning with China’s diplomatic ambitions. Meanwhile, popular nationalism reflects heightened emotional intensity, especially through expressions of fear, anger, and opposition, creating rigid borders that emphasize ideological conflict and national pride. The research contributes to the literature on populism and border studies by demonstrating how Chinese nationalism functions as both a state strategy and a grassroots expression, delineating “the people” from “the other.” It highlights the critical role of media—both state-controlled outlets and user-generated platforms—in constructing and reinforcing these boundaries. As populism continues to shape political discourse globally, the study offers valuable insights into how nationalism in non-Western contexts mirrors broader populist strategies of identity formation through the construction of symbolic and emotional borders.

Fake Patriotism: Economic Necessity or Genuine National Pride?

This research explores the phenomenon of "fake patriotism" among Gen Z consumers, particularly focusing on their purchasing behavior regarding domestic vs. foreign brands of sneakers. Conducted with 209 participants, the study aimed to understand whether younger generations' attraction towards domestic products stems from genuine national pride or mere economic necessity. The study revealed that while some respondents exhibited strong allegiance to domestically produced sneakers, driven by sentiments of national pride, others preferred foreign brands primarily due to superior quality and strong brand power. The findings suggest that economic factors play a significant role in Gen Z's purchasing intention regarding sneakers, with many would choose foreign brands once they have a better purchasing power despite potential patriotic inclinations. This research provides valuable insights for local sneaker producers to adapt their marketing strategies and workmanship to better answer the expectation of customers.

Contradictions of a Society in Transition: A Look at Henry Musenge's Novel Changing Shadows

This article seeks to highlight the contradictions that characterise a society in transition in relation to cultural change. It focuses on Henry Musenge’s novel Changing Shadows. The novel depicts a people in a dilemma with regard to the appropriate culture between the traditional ethnic culture and the new modern culture. Some members in this society wish to adhere to tradition and at the same time, attempt to demonise the new emerging culture. On the opposite extreme end, others regard the traditional culture as backward and outdated; one that should be disposed of completely, and eagerly wish to embrace the new modern culture. And still, others wish to embrace both cultures – or the hybrid of both cultures. The contradiction lies in the fact that, on one hand, there is a (national) call to uphold (selected) traditional values and practices as these are said to enforce national identity and national pride and on the other hand, there is a ‘public’ call for change and a call to embrace the new modern culture: Thus, ‘tradition is good’ versus ‘tradition is bad, evil, retrogressive and outdated’. This bi-polar approach to culture happens in one society and consequently degenerates into internal divides in the same society. The challenge is that these two cultures in many respects tend to be mutually exclusive; the practices are conflicting. This calls for the need for society to revisit and be guided properly seeing that the ambivalent/dual-structured cultural disposition creates confusion and contradictions. This article is largely guided by the sociological approach which posits that literature should serve as a mirror of society as well as to provide solutions for society. However, it is also guided by theories surounded cultural studies and multiculturalism.

Sporting words: how Indonesian commentators shape game narratives

This study analyses the Indonesian sport announcers in relation to their repositioning as integral constituents of the game through the use of language and cultural content and embedding them in the cultural context of the country. The main purpose is to analyze how commentators create stories that are appealing to audiences, evoke emotions as well as build up nationalism. In this qualitative study, commentary data from different broadcasts of sporting events is examined, with specific attention to emotionality, cultural and syntactical elements of language. The research shows that Indonesian narrators utilize storytelling techniques to captivate their audiences. Other issues accentuated are the themes of national togetherness or oneness, hardwork and solidarity that tended to be pronounced in important matches and international games. Some words or these images of language socialise the audience and positively prepare them to their devotion to the sport and unite them toward the success of the sport. For example, sentiments concerning success at the national level and pride at having originated from a successful area not only highlight narrower success but also extend it to the broader society. This study advances both sports and sociolinguistics by elaborating about language, culture and sports events in the context of Indonesia. It shows the importance of sports commentary as a means of fostering cultural identity and social integration. The study also describes how the commentators create stories appealing to the viewers and opens the way for future investigation into the role played by media narratives in developing public opinion and community participation. In its outcomes, this research broadens the appreciation of the role of sports commentary in the entertainment and cultural industries and emphasizes the influence of language and culture on the audience experience.

Nationalist enclaves: Industrialising the critical mineral boom in Indonesia

Nickel's new status as a critical transition mineral has altered developmental agendas in the world's largest producer—Indonesia. The country's resource nationalist ambitions for a higher-value downstream mining industry dovetail with global demand for nickel, a key ingredient in low-carbon technologies like electric vehicles. Indonesia banned raw nickel exports and forced importers, primarily from China, to invest in downstream processing facilities. As a result, Indonesia's nickel industry expanded at breathtaking speed, export revenues soared, and economic growth along the country's nickel belt grew to over three times the national average. Indonesia's leaders cast the downstream sector as both an economic success story and a point of nationalist pride. This paper reflects critically on nickel-led growth in Indonesia, arguing the industry is generating new nationalist enclaves. I advance this concept to capture the paradox that new nickel-based industrial parks meet resource nationalist demands for a value-added extractive sector; yet the parks emerge as reconstituted extractive economic enclaves. Nickel-led growth relies on narrow networks of foreign and politically-connected domestic capital, and the industry's benefits are unevenly distributed. These political economy arrangements generate positive pecuniary externalities for a narrow set of state and private actors, and familiar negative externalities for the environment and communities at sites of extraction.

Ireland and the Antarctic Treaty System

Abstract Ireland has a rich Antarctic history, with Bransfield, Crozier, Shackleton, Crean and others acting as key Irish individuals in Antarctic exploration. Recognized as a source of Irish national pride, memorials, stamps, coins and a government research vessel all commemorate their polar feats. Today, a large proportion of Ireland's citizens visit the Antarctic region and Irish researchers produce high levels of academic outputs on Antarctic topics relative to many other nations. However, Ireland has not acceded to any Antarctic Treaty System instruments, despite a 20 year campaign to do so by cross-party Irish politicians. Ireland has the largest population of any nation in the European Union (EU) yet to accede to the Treaty and is much larger than some existing Treaty signatory states. However, Treaty accession provides no entitlement to participate in Antarctic governance, which is reserved for Consultative Parties, and therefore undertaking the associated legal and administrative work may be considered a poor use of available resources. Ireland's attainment of consultative status would be an even more complex and resource-intensive goal, but collaboration with the EU and other global partners could be a cost-effective solution that may also indirectly support Ireland's ambitions for Observer status at the Arctic Council.

Enhancing Cross-Border E-Commerce through Speech Act Theory in Live-streaming Discourse

In the context of globalization and the rise of China's economic and cultural influence, cross-border e-commerce Live-streaming has become a crucial medium for introducing Chinese products to international audiences. This paper aims to investigate the linguistic aspects of these Live-streaming using Speech Act Theory. An experiment was conducted to test the feasibility of applying Speech Act Theory to short video e-commerce live webcasts. The study collected web data on pragmatics and analyzed Chinese-English live stream snippets to compare the use of idioms in both languages. The findings suggest that short video e-commerce livestreaming can effectively be integrated with Speech Act Theory. Foreign Live-streaming can promote Chinese culture, boost national pride and cultural self-confidence, and enhance the oral skills of e-commerce training institutions. The study highlights the importance of linguistic scrutiny in cross-border e-commerce Live-streaming. By fostering a friendly, interactive Live-streaming atmosphere tailored for the target language, the international reach of domestic short video live streams can be increased, showcasing "Made in China" from foreign perspectives.

Ideologies Underlying Chinese-English News Translation Strategies: A Critical Discourse Analysis of An Example from China Daily

With the aim of revealing the interplay between ideologies and translation strategies in the English translation process of Chinese political discourses, this research delves into the critical discourse analysis (CDA) of the English translation of the 2024 New Year Message by Chinese President Xi in China Daily. By examining the translation strategies like domestication, foreignization, addition, literal translation, and free translation, the study uncovers that these translation strategies are adopted in order to portray China as a nation developing with promising prospects. The primary research findings reveal how these strategies align with key ideologies including modernization and progress, stability and long-term planning, China’s global role and commitment to cooperation, cultural heritage and national pride, and people-centered development. Through the critical analysis of how these strategies reflect and reinforce these ideological narratives in shaping the international perceptions of the status quo and future direction of China’s growth, this research provides insights into the complex relations between translation choices and ideologies.

Interdiscursive resistance by Ukrainian companies: Wartime fundraising on Kickstarter as commercial and societal rhetoric

This study explores resistance used by Ukrainian companies on Kickstarter during the Russo-Ukrainian war, examining how it intertwines with commercial promotion. The analysis focuses on 22 English-language campaign calls. Methodologically, the study combines concepts from discourse analytical and rhetorical traditions. Eight discursive strategies are identified in the analysis. These strategies are connected to three kinds of rhetorical acts: evoking identification/disidentification, manifesting national pride and independence, and establishing belonging to the West. The study argues that Ukrainian companies’ use of resistance as part of commercial promotion has a double purpose: it is a way of making themselves and their products seem topical and societally meaningful to their Western customers while also serving as a form of Ukrainian self-expression, aimed at globally shaping war-related meanings.

Research on the Strategy of Integrating Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture into the Ideological and Political Education Curriculum of English Majors

With the proposed fundamental task of moral cultivation, ideological and political education in colleges and universities has ushered in a new opportunity for reform. To improve the effectiveness of ideological and political education under this background, colleges and universities have organically integrated professional teaching and ideological and political education, actively carried out curriculum ideological and political construction, and achieved certain results. The traditional Chinese culture contains rich national spirit and culture, and integrating it with curriculum ideological and political education can give full play to the advantages of implicit ideological and political education, help students establish cultural confidence, cultivate their patriotic feelings, and thus help them form a sense of national cultural pride, laying a solid foundation for their future development. In this regard, this paper briefly analyzes the strategy of integrating Chinese excellent traditional culture into the English major curriculum, hoping to provide some valuable reference for readers.
