The Role of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) In Higher Education in India.

Education plays a vital role in the development of any nation. Therefore, the higher education is to be the best on both quantity and quality. There has been a great increase in the number of Universities and Colleges in India. To check and assess the quality of these institutions, an autonomous and independent organization called The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India in 1994. There is a positive relationship between education and economic development. However, in this paper an attempt has been made to explain the role of NAAC in higher education in India, Its Job is to assess and accredit the institutions of higher education in India. It came into existence as a result of the recommendations by the National policy on Education (1986) and the Programme of Action (POA-1992) that had stressed on enhancing and improving the quality of higher education in the country.

Impact of goal congruence on higher education institutions’ performance quality

PurposeIn India, national accreditation agencies stipulate that internal quality control in higher education institutions (HEIs) is to be institutionalized through internal quality assurance cells that are responsible for implementing and controlling quality systems. As the concept of goal congruence is central to a control process, this study aims to examine whether goal congruence is observed in such institutions. The impact of the absence of goal congruence on the quality of performance in higher education was also examined.Design/methodology/approachThis cross-sectional study measured the impact of goal congruence or the lack thereof on the performance quality of HEIs as defined in the evaluation criteria of the apex accreditation agency, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Two hypotheses were tested using t-tests and regression analysis. Focus group discussions were conducted to elicit participants’ suggestions.FindingsThe results showed a lack of goal congruence between HEIs’ quality goals and their faculty’s personal goals, which adversely impacts the quality of their performance, as indicated by an average disagreement of 81% on a ten-statement scale. Goal congruence as an independent variable explained 63% of the variability in HEIs’ performance quality, and the results were statistically significant, indicating that lack of goal congruence is an important contributor to poor performance among HEIs.Originality/valueAccreditation of HEIs is a global practice; hence, the findings of this study and the importance of goal congruence apply not only to India but also to HEIs globally.

The Role of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in Ensuring Quality Education in the Indian Education System: An Analysis of Its Accreditation Standards and Grading Practices

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) strives to uphold the quality of education by conducting transparent assessments and certifying Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Through the Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) process, educational institutions are rigorously evaluated to ensure their adherence to guidelines and requirements established by esteemed national bodies, like NAAC. These accreditation standards evolve to meet the diverse needs and capabilities of various stakeholders. This study delves into the functioning of NAAC and its pivotal role in the comprehensive evaluation of HEIs in India, fostering a robust educational landscape across the nation. Furthermore, it explores the evolution of the NAAC Grading System from 1995 to 2023 and analyzes the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the Self Study Report (SSR) as integral components of the A&A process for HEIs in India.

Adaptable Data Warehouse Based on the Research Factor of the NAC Institutional Accreditation Model

One of the main challenges of higher education institutions is continuously improving educational quality. In Colombia, the National Accreditation Council is in charge of evaluating if an institution provides high-quality education. One of the stages in obtaining recognition of high quality requires submitting a self-assessment report with quantitative data by the institution. This stage is very demanding for the institutions because it requires handling data extracted from various sources. Data warehouses are an alternative solution since they allow information from various sources to be centralized and support decision-making. This article proposes dimensional models adaptable to the availability of information sources for institutions and focuses on investigative processes. The research methodology used is the Iterative Research Pattern, where the problem was observed through the review of related studies and self-assessment reports submitted to the National Accreditation Council by public institutions. Subsequently, the requirements of the model were created and validated by a group of experts in institutional quality accreditation. Then, the solution was developed, and six adaptable dimensional research models were proposed using the MiPymes methodology, which is validated through a focus group of experts in dimensional modeling of data warehouses that considered the degree of adaptability of the models is 100% to the identified requirements.

Role and relevance of open and distance learning in social work education: case study of IGNOU, India

ABSTRACT The paper discusses the issues and challenges of offering a pan-India MSW Programme through distance learning, the national accreditation and assessment council vis-à-vis open universities and Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) role in distance education in social work in India. In this light, the paper describes the IGNOU model of MSW curriculum, fieldwork components, evaluation, delivery mechanisms and the challenges and limitations faced by both students and open universities in India. The case study of IGNOU (which is the first national and largest open university in India) provides an understanding of different aspects of curriculum and fieldwork in social work education through open and distance learning.

Colombia in the international development of high quality accreditation in higher education

High-quality accreditation of higher education emerges in the United States and develops, some time later, in other countries. In Colombia, such processes have been evident since the 1990s, although similar activities have been recognized throughout the 20th century. As an objective, this reflective article analyzes the place of Colombia in the international development of quality accreditation in higher education. To do this, from the qualitative hermeneutic approach, a critical reflection and contrast of the characteristics in the accreditation processes in Colombia with respect to other countries in America and Europe is carried out. The results expose the birth of accreditation in the United States and the underlying values ​​of quality in Colombia at the beginning of the 20th century, the initial characteristics of the evaluation of higher education in Latin America and the underlying values ​​of quality in Colombia up to the years eighties, and accreditation in Colombia, Latin America and Europe with a brief contrast between agencies. In conclusion, the quality of the National Accreditation Council is recognized to balance the global accreditation processes with the social and cultural problems of the country's higher education institutions

Education Data Mining, Visualization and Sentiment Analysis of Coursera Course Review

Abstract: Objective: No Decisions are good or bed they are taken based on the available data. It is very much essential to represent the data in the right form to the right people and at the right time. Higher Engineering Institutes (HEI) is having a plethora of information available to them. Most of the available data are not used properly and remain just as dead storage. Methods: In this study, we have shown the importance of data visualization using a case study on Coursera review dataset. Different useful tools that support improving an Education System are summarized. Sentiment analysis is performed for coursera course review dataset using deep learning method. At the end, dashboard is also created to visualize student data using powerBI tool. Results: Uses of different visualization tools can help to improve the education system and its performance. The Sentiment expressed by students will help to improve the teaching-learning process and research contribution significantly as they are the major components for evaluation when any HEI wants to receive NAAC [National Assessment and Accreditation Council] approval for benefitting all stakeholders of the HEI. Conclusions: Proper analysis of available data and their proper visualization can help us to improve the education system to a great extent in terms of improving the most important factors like student teaching- learning and their placement to make their future bright. Students expressed sentiments are also key features to analyze the success of the teachinglearning process for both teachers and students as well. We have also used our institute students' data to generate a dashboard that contains student information from a different perspective that can help higher authorities to make better fruitful decisions. Analysis of Accreditation of Indian Universities Located in the Western Part of India Considering NAAC Quality Indicators

With the introduction of the National Education Policy 2020, the focus of higher education in India is shifting towards the holistic development of students through multidisciplinary education. It also envisages higher education institutions with motivated, skilled, and focused faculty members who are capable of providing quality teaching-learning process as well as engaged in visible and relevant research. Also, universities are mainly meant to cater to large masses, conduct research that is of societal importance, and reach out to society through extension activities. Looking into these aspects, the quality assessment of the universities is of utmost importance for their complete development. The overall progress of universities will depend upon the formulation and implementation of policies leading to a better teaching-learning environment, infrastructure for teaching and research, mobilization of funds, excellence in research, and extension activities. Uniformity in the evaluation of the quality of the universities requires taking all these factors into consideration. National Assessment and Accreditation Council, which evaluates the quality of higher education institutions in India, grades the universities based broadly on these criteria. In this paper, we attempt to analyze the accreditation of universities based on their grades obtained in various criteria set by NAAC. We have also tried to find the correlation of some of the criteria on other quality indicators.

To determine whether nationwide and/or institutional policy changes affected vascular integrated resident (VR) and vascular fellow (VF) operative experience during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic using national Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education case log data.

Quality complacency in Indian higher education institutions between the second and third cycles of accreditation

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the sustenance of quality over the long run by higher education institutions (HEIs) as measured by the accreditation scores in two consecutive five-year cycles of accreditation, which is a global quality practice. It also aimed to uncover the causes of the decline in the quality performance of the majority of HEIs.Design/methodology/approachThe authors analyzed 481 Indian HEIs based on their accreditation scores for the second and third cycles of assessment by the apex agency, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Given the alarming results, the authors investigated the matter further. Possible causes for the lack of quality sustenance on the part of Indian HEIs were ascertained.FindingsWhile 161 HEIs showed improvement, 320 showed a decline in the accreditation scores. Indian HEIs are on a slippery slope in dealing with quality. This survey of a sample of 248 out of 481 institutions showed that much remains to be done by the Internal Quality Assurance Cells. The lack of institutionalization of quality is a major concern. Findings of this study have implications for HEIs across the globe who want to be assured of quality on a sustained basis.Originality/valueThis study is the first of its kind to look into drops in quality among HEIs that have been in a quality environment for more than 10 years. It warns institutions to guard against quality complacency to sustain quality in the long run.

Determination and Measurement of Quality of Higher Educational Institution in Rajasthan

The quality determination of a Higher Educational Institution namely, an university – a place of Higher Learning and Research, not just for the purpose of dissemination of Knowledge but to be a place for Creation of Knowledge through Research, differ significantly in the way in which they are determined by the way it is measured on different parameters and the methodologies that are put in place for the purpose of quality Assurance and Accreditation. I this paper an attempt is made to understand and appreciate the role of the National Accreditation and Assessment Council of India which has the mandate given to it and the ―Quality‖ as determined from not only the Specific National Perceptive apart from the globally adhered norms for such determination of ―Quality‖. For this purpose a limited study has been taken to study the quality concerns and the role of the National Accreditation and Assessment Council of India, with special reference to the Private Universities in Rajasthan, which includes State Private Universities established under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and also includes Private Deemed to be Universities established by the Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and Notified by the Ministry of Education (erstwhile Ministry of Human Resources Development) of Government of India. In the process of Evaluation of Quality, the Critical aspect is the use of a framework for measurement and evaluation against which the NAAC analyses and makes a decision for the Accreditation. The Assessment process undertaken by the Researcher in his attempt is to have the parameters independent of the criteria of the Assessment bodies and more suited to the requirements of the specific needs of the State of Rajasthan. Care has been taken not to have any biased element by missing out the important parameters.

Operative Trends in Orthopaedic Hand Surgery Fellowships

Objective Since 1958, more than 50 postresidency fellowship programs in hand surgery have been introduced within the United States. Ongoing changes in health care and medical education necessitate the evaluation of these fellowships. The purpose of this study is to identify trends in operative experience over time regarding procedure volume, surgery type, and anatomic region.Materials and Methods National Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) case logs of graduating orthopaedic hand surgery fellows were evaluated for years 2011 to 2019. Procedures were grouped according to ACGME-defined categories for hand surgery. The mean number of procedures per fellow in each category was trended over time using a Mann–Kendall test.Results All 1,257 fellows were included. The mean number of procedures completed annually by each fellow increased from 797.6 in 2011 to 945.6 in 2019 (p<0.01). Over the course of the study period, there were increases in the number of “soft tissue,” “fracture,” and “nerve” procedures (p<0.001), while the number of “congenital” procedures decreased (p<0.05). Additionally, small but statistically significant increases were found in “amputation,” “Dupuytren's,” and “decompression of tendon sheath/synovectomy/ganglions” procedures (p<0.01).Conclusion There has been an increase in the number of procedures performed by orthopaedic hand surgery fellows over the past decade. This appears to be due to the increase in nerve, fracture, and soft tissue categories, and there has been a decrease in the number of congenital cases completed. These data confirm that the operative experiences for most hand surgery fellows are robust and growing over time.

Performance-based evaluation and funding model for central universities in India: a preliminary assessment

The newly adopted performance-based evaluation and funding model is one of the recent quality initiatives taken by the University Grants Commission in India, which aims to improve quality in management and administration of federally funded universities in India. The article critically analyses the 2020 released ranking based on this model and raises some critical observations about the methodology and results of the ranking, discussing the key features of the ranking framework. The findings suggest that universities ranked higher in the National Institutional Ranking Framework and National Assessment and Accreditation Council ratings have performed not at par with their ranks in this target-based methodology. Only one university of 40 could find a place in the ‘outstanding’ category and one university was categorised as ‘poor’. The article goes on to discuss the current state and future directions of central universities in India aspiring to join the ‘world-class’ league.

IMPACT OF ACCREDITATION OF TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN PAKISTAN ON PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS`LEARNING; A COMPARATIVE STUDY

The world is recently moving towards quality criteria in every field. For this Accreditation process has been introduced in every Discipline, Institute and Program to maintain the standards of quality. Accreditation refers to the authenticity and fairness in achieving the benchmarks of standards of program, a course, a module or an Institution. (Harvey, 2004). Accreditation provides certainty that the course or program will meet the demands and requirements of the quality standards. In order to produce trained professionals’ quality in higher education is required and Accreditation process will provide the Quality Assurance. As the teachers are the roots of every profession, therefore the Accreditation Process is also introduced in the field of teacher Education Program to maintain and improve the quality of Teacher Education Programs. When talking in context of Pakistan, there is always an issue regarding in quality of Education in Pakistan. In order to meet this demand NACTE (National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) is established so that the quality criteria can be achieved through the process of Accreditation of different Teacher Education Programs in Pakistan. (Shakoor, &amp; Farrukh, 2016). The programs or courses having NACTE Accredited certificate can be accepted globally and thus can serves as a basis of good professional start. The present study aims to find out the comparative analysis of the impacts of NACTE Accredited and Non-Accredited Teacher Education Programs on student's Achievement. The study is conducted on students of B. Ed honors studying in different institutions in Karachi. To carry out comparative analysis MGA (Multigroup Analysis) is carried out on Smart PLS: 3. The analysis done revealed high ‘values of Accredited groups as compared to nonAccredited groups, concluding that there are significant differences in the impact of two types of programs; Accredited and Non-Accredited teacher Education Programs on student teacher`s achievement. Lessons Learned: Applicant Equity and the 2020-2021 Virtual Interview Season

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a profound impact on medical training in the United States over the past year. In March 2020, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) temporarily suspended medical student participation on all clinical services nationwide (1). The National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) followed with a joint statement in May 2020 announcing that the 2020-2021 residency interview season would be conducted virtually (2).

Knowledge management system based on high quality standards for a higher education program

Knowledge management is a useful tool for the competitiveness of many organizations. The higher education sector is particularly oriented towards adherence to this type of schemes, since its nature implies constant institutional learning based not only on its own experience but also on the exchange of knowledge in the academic environment. In Colombia, higher education institutions perceive an opportunity for improvement in the high quality standards of the National Accreditation Council, which requires an infrastructure oriented to the strategic knowledge management. This article presents the experience of implementing a prototype of a knowledge management system in a higher education undergraduate program. It describes the phases of the process and its relationship with the technological platform that supported the development. The conclusions highlight the advantages of the exercise, emphasizing institutional learning, the importance of the technological platform and, finally, reflections on knowledge management as a fundamental axis of accreditation processes.

Background: Accreditation forms chief platform to the fact that higher education should be accurately directed towards betterment, sharpening, honing and nourishing intellectual persona of learners.&#x0D; There is palpable need to critically analyze manuals embodying accrediting guidelines for Medical Sciences Universities / Institutions prescribed by NAAC as against guidelines in vogue in U.S. and U.K. with reference to any identifiable inadequacy pertaining to meaningful accreditation of Medical Sciences Universities / Institutions and proposing an ideal model towards meaningful accreditation .&#x0D; Aim and Objectives: To critically evaluate manuals of accreditation of Medical Sciences Universities / Institutions notified by National Accreditation and Assessment Council with reference to those in vogue in U.S. and U.K. and generate updated manual for accreditation of Medical Science Universities / Institutions in India.&#x0D; Methods:&#x0D; Type of study: Descriptive study.&#x0D; Duration of study: 2 years.&#x0D; Place of study: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Sawangi Meghe, Wardha.&#x0D; Expected Results: Generation of upgraded manual of accreditation of Medical Universities / Institutions in India.&#x0D; Conclusion: Updated manual of accreditation of medical Sciences Universities / Institutions in India could be availed by National Assessment and Accreditation Council for its utilization as a basal / referral document towards the necessary policy frame.

Evaluating Quality – Measures to Improve NAAC Ranking for Higher Education Institutes

Quality in education is imperative and thus it is a matter of great concern for the universities, colleges and institutions to maintain it. There are varied criteria to measure quality and methods to improve it with time. A lot of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) offer courses across streams for the students to pursue. The success of an educational institute depends on the quality of education. Educationalists, policy makers, researchers and scholars across the world are working towards quality management for continuous improvement, student/faculty satisfaction and institutional excellence. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council, NAAC, an autonomous institution has been established by the University Grants Commission with the prime agenda of assessing and accrediting Higher Education Institutes(HEI), facilitating them to work continuously towards improving the quality of education. The assessment process is carried out in three stages, which comprises of, viz., Self Study Report (SSR), Student Satisfaction Survey and the Peer Team Report. In the NAAC’s Self study report seven criterion are used for assessment; among all, criteria II: Teaching, Learning and Evaluation carry a major weightage of 350 points. In this paper, we will be briefly discussing the quality measures that can be taken up by any HEI regarding Teaching, Learning and Evaluation methodologies to improve upon its overall score and ranking. A survey was also conducted amongst graduation level students from various universities asking them multiple research questions related to measures that can be taken up by the colleges to improve quality in teaching, learning and evaluation.

How relevant is the industrial engineering program at Universidad Libre?

The purpose of this article is to present the results of the research project that aims to evaluate the relevance of theacademic program of industrial engineering of the free university, which allowed to determine the degree of social andindustrial relevance, based on the professional profile defined in the PYP (Educational Project of the Program) in force forthe period 2018 - 2020 responding to the accreditation requirements of Agreement 02 of 2020 of the CNA (NationalAccreditation Council). The information for this study was collected through questionnaires, as a research tool, which isaddressed to the entrepreneurs linked to the institution, graduates of the program and the community that is part of thesocial projection of the faculty.In the evaluation was possible to conclude that the Industrial Engineering program has a high percentage of relevance,both social and industrial, values that will be analyzed in this article.

Examining the Development of Professional Dispositions of Prospective Teachers in Higher Education: Broadening the Horizon of Teacher Training

In 2009, dispositions were included in the professional standards by the National Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (NACTE) in Pakistan. As per NACTE’s manual, teachers' training institutes are responsible to develop and assess dispositions in prospective teachers in Pakistan. However, no research study in Pakistan illustrates whether teacher training institutions are developing and assessing professional dispositions of pre-service teachers. Therefore, the basic purpose of the study was to examine and measure the professional dispositions of pre-service teachers of teacher education programs in Pakistan. The quantitative cross-sectional research design was opted to accomplish the research study. The researchers visited 11 out of 15 public universities of Punjab. Hence, data were collected from 1061 out of 1592 prospective teachers through proportionate stratified sampling. For data collection, a self-assessment questionnaire was used which was developed by reviewing extensive literature in accordance with dispositions mentioned in National Professional Standards for Teachers in Pakistan (NPSTP). The study concluded that albeit pre-service teachers did not possess equally all, and hence, partly possessed professional dispositions, mentioned in National Professional Standards for Teachers. Prospective teachers from South Punjab reflected significantly more professional dispositions as compared to prospective teachers of Central and North Punjab. The NACTE may guide and provide information to departments of education of universities for developing, monitoring and assessing the prospective teachers’ professional dispositions, so that prospective teachers’ professional dispositions may be enhanced to launch a better workforce for educational institutions.&#x0D; Keywords: professional dispositions, prospective teachers, teacher training institutes, professional standards.
