Participation of Muslim Female Students in Online Education: A Survey

Contemporary India is a primitive, patriarchal society of various feudal tribes. When we refer to caste in Considering the education system to be secular in the sense, when dealing with minority participation, we must bear in mind the debate expressed by Irfan Ahmed that “the characterization of minorities is not just numbers but a comparative and powerless position vis-a-vis the majority community in a given government” . Socio-religious issues dominate the understanding of minority female students and their participation in the education system while the existing considerations are subject to the internal affairs of the state; The current social conditions affected by the pandemic have changed and forced these conditions to be watched out for in order to create a global education system. Using qualitavie and survey research methods. This study aims to take advantage of this global space to investigate the participation status of Muslim female students and to identify areas for improvement.

Feminists against Fascism: The Indian Female Muslim Protest in India

This article explores contestations around ideas of India, citizenship, and nation from the perspective of Indian Muslim female university students in Delhi. In December 2019, the Hindu majoritarian government introduced new citizenship legislation. It caused widespread distress over its adverse implications for Muslims and a large section of socio-economically deprived populations. In response, millions of people, mainly from Dalit, Adivasi, and Bahujan backgrounds, took to the streets to protest. Unprecedentedly, young Muslim female students and women emerged at the forefront of the significant public debate. This situation disrupted the mainstream perception of oppressed Muslim women lacking public voice and agency. Drawing on the narratives of the Indian Muslim female students who participated in these protests, this article highlights their conceptions of, and negotiations with, the idea of India. In doing so, this article reflects on the significance of critical feminist protest as a form of “public pedagogy” for citizenship education as a powerful antidote to a supremacist, hypermasculine, and vigilante idea of India.

Indonesia's Supreme Court Judgment on Religious Clothing: Failing Women and Girls in Public Schools?

Abstract In May 2021, the Indonesian Supreme Court delivered a unanimous judgment that struck down a joint ministerial decree prohibiting local governments and public schools from imposing religious clothing on female students, teachers, and staff.1 The joint ministerial decree was issued following public criticisms and media coverage of the religious dress code enforced in public schools in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The Court held that such a decree conflicted with various provisions in the national legislations, including laws on regional government,2 child protection,3 law-making,4 and the national education system.5 Accordingly, the Supreme Court justices presiding over the case, Yulius, Irfan Fachruddin, and Is Sudaryono, instructed the Minister of Education and Culture, the Minister of House Affairs, and the Minister of Religious Affairs to rescind the joint decree. This comment explores and critically examines the Court's reasoning of the decision that has, consequently, legitimized local governments and public schools’ policy to enforce mandatory hijab on Muslim and non-Muslim female teachers, staff, and students at public schools across the country. It argues that the Court's ruling, in this case, is highly unreasoned and questionable, lacking in details in some respects, and failing to address the encroachment of women and girls' rights that should have been given appropriate consideration.

Constitutional Law and Islamic Hijabs in Kenyan Schools: The Supreme Court’s Specious Constraint in Methodist Church in Kenya

ABSTRACT This article analyses the content and implications of the Supreme Court of Kenya’s judgment in Methodist Church in Kenya v Mohamed Fugicha and 3 Others. There, by majority decision, the Supreme Court overturned the Court of Appeal’s ruling that reasonable accommodation be made for the wearing of Islamic hijabs by female Muslim students in Kenyan schools. While Methodist Church in Kenya was expected to clarify the scope of the right to manifest religious belief in Kenya, the Supreme Court used specious logic based on legalism to avoid that issue. This article shows how the majority decision contradicts principles of enforcement of constitutional rights by focusing unduly on procedural technicalities, avoiding the core issue of permissible restrictions on religious expression and leaving key legal questions unresolved. It also highlights the well-reasoned dissenting opinion that addressed the core issue and which has crucial import for future development of religious freedom jurisprudence in Kenya

The Role of Islamic Piety Movements in the Lives of Malaysian Female Muslim Students in the United Kingdom

This paper explores the transnational trajectories of female Malaysian Muslim students through their commitment to piety-minded forms of Islam. In particular, it seeks to identify the reasons for their participation in piety movements and its importance to their lives. The ethnographic research, conducted over 8 months, involved 18 Malaysian female respondents who were studying and living in Manchester between 2016 and 2017. The findings show that the students’ involvement in piety movements was due to fictive kinship providing generous hospitality upon their arrival to the United Kingdom, pre-departure programs on preparation for studying abroad, family influence and sisterhood relationships. Participation in piety movements is said to help relieve stress and overcome loneliness, and is considered vital in guiding Muslim students to lead fulfilling and virtuous lives. The findings contribute significantly to transnational student mobility theories and the importance of sociality and religion in transnational migration.

Intercultural Communication Life of Transnational Indonesian PhD Muslim Female Students in the US and Australia

This study aimed at investigating the intercultural communication life of Indonesian PhD Muslim female students in the USA and Australia as transnationals. They face not only the language hardship but also the newest environments challenge both in academic and social setting. Stereotype, stigmatization, discrimination, and other forms of oppressions appear in relation to their visual identity. Applying Stella Ting-Toomey’ Identity Negotiation Theory, the study is to answer questions: (1) How far is the influence of the intercultural communication of these students living in a country? and (2) To what extent does intercultural communication competence influence the success of these students? This study is a qualitative descriptive based on the video/audio or diary tape of the respondents in the USA and Australia. To sum up, the video/audio or diary tape revealed that the success of intercultural communication on the these Indonesian Phd Muslim women students is influenced by knowledge, motivation, and skill obtained from the challenges in daily experiences both in academic and social life. Later, those three elements are very essential components in the ‘mindful/effectiveness intercultural communication’. Those elements become competence for Indonesian PhD Muslim women students to form adaptive strategies to overcome their internal and external situation. The process of intercultural communication might be challenging. However, the competence reveal during their first year living in a new country will be solution in facing problems or minimizing difficult situations in future years ahead.

Opinions of children and youth in the 3 southern border provinces on their livelihoods in the current situation

The objectives of this research are to study opinions on the lifestyles and participation of children and youth and to compare the opinions of children and youth with various matters in their schools, homes and communities. The sample used in this research is comprised of 2,669 children and youth studying at the high school level in the three southern border provinces Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat. The data were collected by questionnaire. The statistics used in data analysis were descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The levels of opinion on livelihoods and participation in matters of school, home and community were analyzed by relationships with personal factors of children and youth by category analysis. The research results found that most of the children and youth in the sample were female Muslim students from a school in Narathiwat Province. While studying, they lived at home with their father or mother. The predominant family characteristic was single or nuclear family. They agreed on their opinion levels concerning a good school environment, good teaching and learning, freedom of expression and rights and good home and community conditions. The relationships between personal factors and the level of opinions in four characteristics were that accommodations for children and youth while studying had associated to their opinions in all characteristics. The opinions of children and youth who stayed with parents were more in agreement than with others who did not stay with their parents. In addition, gender and family characteristics also were related opinions about good homes and community conditions.

The Effectiveness of Contemporary Islamic Scholars in Tackling Pornography Addiction: A Case of Muslim Students in Britain

In the contemporary era, fatwas mostly contain derivative information from classical texts such as the Quran and Hadith. Fatwas are used to tackle pornography addiction while it may lack productivity in spreading innovative solutions among Muslim students. Failure to provide solid Islamic pornography rehabilitations and disfavouring to speak openly on pornography does not stop the prevalence of pornography among Muslim students. Therefore, the purpose is to explore the prevalence of pornography, its effect on Muslim students, and strategies to overcome pornography addiction. Through SPSS analysis, the numerical data shows that both Muslim male and female students view pornography regardless of its prohibitions. Some Muslim students are engaged in maladaptive behavior, affecting their spirituality, religion, and overall well-being (Ademola, 2017). The study, therefore, suggests alternative awareness programs to support Muslim students to overcome the struggles of pornographic addiction that is often too tempting to resist. Dealing with pornography per today's context perhaps will diminish the statistical rate of Muslim students watching pornography.

Adab Berpakaian Wanita Muslimah Sesuai Tuntunan Syariat Islam

The phenomenon that afflicts Indonesian society, especially Muslim female students, is a culture of clothing that deviates from the guidance of Islamic law, although there are Muslim women who show how to dress according to Sharia, but the number is relatively small compared to those who are not. The phenomenon of wearing hijab is currently not in accordance with the requirements of Muslim women's clothing where not a few of the clothing models worn by women wearing hijab but still show the shape of the body, made from transparent and so on. Of course this is a problem that must be addressed by parents, educators and those in charge of education, because if it is left unchecked this will become a culture that will continue to develop and eventually become a law that is considered true by future generations. One way to overcome this is to raise awareness among Muslim women about the obligation to cover their genitals by providing sufficient understanding of genitals, the obligation to cover them and the adab of dressing in Islam. This study uses a literature review that synthesizes the theories and concepts of fiqh scholars about the aurat adab dress in Islam which then produces a concept of how to foster awareness of covering one's genitals which can be internalized in the form of dress behavior in Muslim women, especially students.

MUSLIMAH BERCADAR (STUDI TENTANG PROSES INTERNALISASI DAN ADAPTASI SOSIAL MAHASISWI MUSLIMAH BERCADAR DI FAKULTAS EKONOMI UNIVERSITAS NEGERI MAKASSAR)

This study aims to determine: 1) the process of internalization of veiled Muslim female students, 2) social adaptation of veiled Muslim female students at the Faculty of Economics, Makassar State University. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The number of informants is 5 people. The selection of informants in this study by means of purposive sampling with the criteria of informants: a) students of the Faculty of Economics, Makassar State University class of 2015-2017, b) veiled Muslim female students, c) had used a veil for> 5 months. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions and verification. The data validation technique uses persistence of observation and triangulation. The results showed that: 1) the process of internalization of veiled Muslim female students at the Faculty of Economics, Makassar State University was carried out through several stages, namely the listening, responding, evaluating, organizing and characterization stages. 2) social adaptation of veiled Muslim female students is done by: a) Real appearance; manifested in the form of relationship skills and a willingness to be open to others, b) Adjustment to the group; manifested in the form of cooperation and social responsibility, c) social attitude; manifested in the form of participating in social activities, empathizing, and being able to respect and respect others.

PENGARUH SIKAP PADA IKLAN KOSMETIK HALAL WARDAH TERHADAP NIAT BERPERILAKU

Attitude is suggested to have a link to behavioral intention. This study examines the said information, using Wardah advertisement as a research object. Cosmetics and beauty products have been viewed as something essentials nowadays, brought about by the ease of a someone’s image shared on social media. Moreover, an advertisement from halal beauty products like Wardah which upholds Islamic values will generate positive attitude among Muslims. This attitude would affect customer’s behavioral intention. Using quantitative method and questionnaires which were distributed to Muslim female college students, it can be concluded that a person’s attitude towards Wardah advertisement relates to their behavioral intentions toward mentioned product. Fashion Orientation among Muslim Female Students (Santriwati)

This study examines the orientation of fashion products consumed by students of the Al-Hanafiah Foundation Putri Muslimat Islamic Boarding School. This study examines the orientation of fashion products consumed by Muslim female students (santriwati). Researchers use qualitative research methods in collecting and analyzing data. Researchers also use the perspective of postmodern studies in the view of Jean P. Audillard and other postmodern figures as research instruments in conducting research approaches. Data analysis techniques used in this study refer to the interactive analysis method using data reduction, data presentation, concluding, and data verification. The results showed that the fashion consumed by Muslim female students at the Al-Hanafiah Foundation Putri Muslimat Islamic Boarding School is oriented to beauty, confidence, prestige, self-image, identity, and oriented as group cohesiveness.

The Meaning of Communication in Fashion Style of Muslim Student in Institut Agama Islam (IAI) Al-Aziziyah Samalanga Bireuen Aceh

Changes in Muslim fashion trends will not be dammed and will continue to experience changes. Different from the previous year, where the trend of Muslim clothing in Indonesia tends to show an experimental trend. This year, the experimental trend has shifted to a long head covering known as the hijab syar’i. The term shari'i used, refers to Muslim women's clothing where the clothes, according to the Islamic Shari'ah guidance. Therefore, many call this ongoing fashion trend with shar'i hijab. Moving on from that thought, the problem to be investigated in this research is the meaning of Muslimah fashion communication style for Al-Aziziyah Samalanga Bireuen Aceh's Islamic Religion Institute (IAI) students. To uncover the problem thoroughly and deeply, this study uses a qualitative descriptive method that is useful for providing data and facts about the meaning of communication in the style of Al-Aziziyah Samalanga Islamic Institute (IAI) student dress style. Then the data were analyzed with the basis of the thought of George Herbert Mead and the principle of George Ritzer, in order to obtain a deep meaning about the student's fashion style. Meaning is produced from religious background, motives, and social environment. After that, meaning is modified through an interpretive process, and then individuals develop self-concepts through interactions with others. Self-concept provides an important motive for behavior and expression in choosing a style of dress. From the results of the study it was found that the meaning of communication style of Muslim female students of the Islamic Religious Institute (IAI) Al-Aziziyah Samalanga was produced from a background of religiosity, motives, and social environment. Then, individuals do the process of self-communication and produce a meaning that is interpreted through clothing. Some of the meanings of communication of Muslim female student fashion styles The Islamic Religious Institute (IAI) Al-Aziziyah Samalanga are produced based on the female Muslim students' fashion styles, namely: The meaning of Muslimah women's fashion styles as self-identities, the meaning of Muslimah women's fashion styles as a lifestyle, and the meaning of Muslim women's clothing styles as a form of obedience. Fashion communication is produced through the use of various symbols and fashion styles, so that the attitudes and behaviors of the user are reflected and generate direct appreciation through the interaction of people around. Several ways of meaning female students of communication style of Islamic clothing Islamic Institute of Islam (IAI) Al-Aziziyah Samalanga communicates Muslim clothing styles: Dressing in one color from top to bottom, fashion that is in accordance with Islamic law and ignores the trend of the times, follows the trend of Muslim fashion at the time that, dress in colors, mix and match the color of clothing.

Does soft skill development vary among the students? A gender perspective

The study was intended to examine the extent to which soft skill development varied among the university students by gender via their participation in co-curricular activities (CCAs). Moreover, the study aimed to find out whether there was a significant difference between male and female students concerning soft skill development. The study has shown that males have developed diverse personal skills and social skills, that is, soft skills more than females excepting one which is presentation skill. The study has pointed out that soft skill development significantly varies among the students by gender excepting presentation skill development. The study has proposed that the significant difference between male and female students regarding soft skill development may be attributed to their difference in participating in various CCAs. Since the males are more likely to participate in CCAs, they are more likely to develop diverse soft skills than the females. The study has indicated that Muslim female students face several personal and social barriers including lack of confidence, conservative family values, and people’s negative attitudes to participate in CCAs, which requires proper policy to address.

Hidden Curriculum in Schools: A Comparison of Religious Otherness in Pakistani ELT Textbooks

The emphasis of this research was religious otherness depiction in high school English textbooks issued by four State controlled Pakistani textbook boards of i.e., BTB Quetta, STB Jamshoro, KTB Peshawar and PTB Lahore. It besets a broad contrast among the religious otherness descriptions as depicted in provincial ELT textbooks and the otherness related notions of their corresponding students. To achieve the goals, the study was alienated in 2 phases: In phase 1, the textbooks of government textbook publishing boards were investigated and in the second phase their corresponding readers’ religious otherness ideas were obtained and evaluated. The research devised a modified model of analysis by blending Van Dijk (1998) and Fairclough (2001) CDA model for interpretation and explanation of religious otherness in representative text extracted from textbooks’ discourse. The study discovered the prevalence of religious otherness- related themes in all ELT textbooks. It was also found that STB discourse had improved religious otherness images and students’ otherness ideas than other provincial textbook boards and their respective readers. The study also revealed that Muslim male and female students had peculiar otherness notions about minority religious communities. The readers’ responses to questionnaire items in phase 2 of research suggested that textbooks had a significant part in molding otherness related notions of young readers. The study recommended an otherness-based investigation of the textbooks prior to publication at federal government level to ensure citizenship equality as envisioned by founder of the nation.

KESALEHAN RITUAL DAN KESALEHAN SOSIAL SISWA MUSLIM SMA DI EKS KARESIDENAN SURAKARTA

Religious education encompasses two dimensions of human life, namely the cultivation of piety towards God and the development of sense of humanity towards others, or ritual and social piety. But in reality, these two things in education are less integrated so that they become dichotomy and even gap between ritual and social piety. This study is quantitative which aims at measuring and analyzing ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students in the ex-Surakarta Residency based on their gender. The assumption built in this study is that Islamic Education in schools is able to give birth to ritual and social piety of their students. There are two research questions: first, what is the category of ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students at the ex-Surakarta Residency?. Second, what is the difference between ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students at the ex-Surakarta Residency based on their gender?. The null hypothesis (H0) built in this study is: there is no difference between ritual and social piety of male and female Muslim students. By using descriptive analysis and ANOVA test, this study found two things; first, ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students in the ex-Surakarta Residency are good. Second, there is no difference between ritual and social piety in male high school Muslim students. There is difference in ritual and social piety of female students and also difference in ritual and social piety of male and female high school Muslim students in the exSurakarta Residency.

Character education is the action and attitude of a person who reflects anything with good value. These values can be identified in his daily activities. Therefore, character education is considered very important as an effort to help someone to perceive or to understand and to act based on ethical or moral values. This purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of character education in senior high schools (SMA) in Ujungbatu, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province based on sex (male and female) differences. In order to answer the problems in the study, descriptive qualitative approach study is designed by using several methods namely interview, observation and documentation. The samples of the study were 339 students from three different high schools; they are SMA 1, SMA 2 and SMA Muhammadiyah. Finding of the study revealed that the four character education value, namely devotion, hard work, discipline, and honesty could be applied to both male and female Muslim and Christian students, and this is to indicate that these character values can be applied to the students. Finally, this character education method applies to students, especially in high school.
