Recently, video content based on video platforms has been growing both quantitatively and qualitatively in terms of the diversity of subject matter, scale of production, and level of content completion. As the size of the video platform market has expanded, the number of video creators generating revenue has increased. The low entry barriers have led to a flood of indiscriminate new creators and a proliferation of similar content to popular content, intensifying competition among content creators. Creators faced with this reality are required to improve and differentiate themselves in various ways to maintain competitiveness. Therefore, there is a need for research into the production and distribution of background music, one of the key elements of diversified and varied video content. This study aims to contribute to the high-quality video content production environment by conducting in-depth research on the current status, issues, and improvement methods of background music production and distribution for video content. To this end, we first examined the revenue structure and background music usage status of video content creators to confirm the importance of creative background music. Subsequently, we categorized background music platforms into talent markets, subscription-based services, and AI groups to explore their current status and characteristics. Finally, we investigated the copyright management methods of each of the three platform groups to emphasize the need for creators to understand their legal rights concerning their creations. This study is meaningful in enabling video content creators to monetize through creative and diverse background music production without copyright infringement during content creation. Moreover, it is hoped that authors, producers, and users will interact with professionalism, fairness, and trust to co-evolve and contribute to the production of background music for video content.
