Method, evaluation, and education at a VDM music course institution

A music course institution provides education for students to play musical instruments fluently. Therefore, ensuring education management in a music course institution is essential. This study investigates the method, evaluation, and education in a music course institution, which comprises (a) the type of education, (b) the method used, and (c)evaluation. This study employed a qualitative approach. Data collection was through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. In analyzing the data, this study referred to the techniques by Miles and Huberman. Data validity was tested through data credibility, dependability, and confirmability. The findings of our study on VDM Music Course Institution in Surabaya involve the implementation of music course lessons, which consists of the type of education and the method used, which were evaluated afterwards. Then, they are communicated to the students systematically and orderly according to the predetermined design. The lesson begins with the method used to ensure students are focused during class. Music lesson is based on the form of lesson materials that have been structured according to the individual student level. All lessons are delivered systematically with the established design. The implementation of lessons refers to the program employing several strategies to attain the goal of learning by the VDM Music Course Institution: to promote the students' proficiency in playing their desired musical instruments.

Becoming the music teacher: Stories of generalist teaching and teacher education in music

Teacher preparation for generalist (non-specialist) elementary teachers in Ontario typically comprises one compulsory music class. In entry surveys, many generalists describe themselves as highly apprehensive about and unconfident in their ability to teach music, confirming previous research. Using narrative inquiry, we explore the stories of both preservice and in-service generalist teachers. Data from focus groups with preservice teachers revealed that most participants felt markedly more comfortable with the prospect of teaching music in primary grades after taking our music courses; while fewer expressed confidence in teaching music to junior/intermediate grades. However, preservice teachers are rarely given the chance to observe or teach music while on practicum. Interviews with in-service generalist teachers revealed that a lack of confidence compelled them to take part in intentional, incremental, self-directed learning experiences to further develop their knowledge and skills for the elementary music classroom. The pandemic largely halted music activities, creating new barriers for generalist in-service teachers who teach music. The enduring gaps identified by this research are how to build more opportunities for generalist preservice teachers to practice their newly acquired skills while on practicum; and how to better support generalist in-service teachers to acquire additional skills for teaching music once in the classroom.

The Solfeggio and Ear Training Course in the Context of Innovative Teaching

From the perspective of reforming the teaching of music courses and deepening the construction of solfeggio and ear training courses, this article proposes an innovative teaching method on the web platform and a collaborative teaching method and suggests reforms to the teaching process and evaluation methods of the course.

Study on the Integration of Guitar in the Music Courses of Basic Education under the New Curriculum

This paper combined with the status of the music courses for basic education in our country and the suitability of students, and took a full account of life reality, social reality, personality development of students, innovative spirit and practical ability of students, and the appropriateness of the students' cognitive development. The form of basic music courses was attempted to integrate and innovate so that guitar can be introduced to music classroom in basic education. For realizing the wish of guitar in a multi-element, experiential, situational and self-selective way, the teaching exploration and research has lasted for four years, in which guitar is being more important in promoting diversified integration, continuous innovation and developing the basic music education. Thus, students' musical literacy with the idea of “people-oriented” is comprehensively improved at some point.

A Study on the Use of Denizli Folk Songs in Primary School Music Courses

Folk songs, which have carried Turkish culture from generation to generation, are the living heritage of the Turks. The folk songs that witnessed the events in history were accepted as sacred. The use of folk songs as a tool in music education will both provide a benefit to music education and allow our cultural richness to be transferred to new generations. Thus, the study aims to explore the folk songs of the Denizli region for music education, provide material for primary school music lessons, and ensure that Turkish culture can reach new generations. In this context, through the data collected from the TRT repertoire, 90 Denizli folk songs were analyzed via content analysis. The data analyses were conducted in terms of the appropriateness of modal, method, and words, which were investigated by experts from each field. At the end of the research, 16 folk songs, which are suitable for implementation in primary school music lessons, were identified in the field. It is suggested that further research should include the effect of these 16 folk songs to have success in music education.

Early Children Education through Arts: Pre-school Teachers Views on Types and Frequency of Young Children Engagement in Music Education Activities in Pre-school Settings in Greece

The aim of the present study was to examine the frequency of implementing musical activities in the weekly pre-school settings program and the type of musical activities that pre-school teachers choose to implement. Factors that may influence the frequency of implementing musical activities were also investigated. In addition, some indications and changes recommended by pre-school teachers themselves, which would support and facilitate a more frequent implementation of musical activities in the pre-school setting program, were also reported.The Mixed Method Research (MMR) was preferred for this study, which is besides considered a more appropriate method for research in highly multi-factorial areas such as education. The questionnaire was preferred as a basic tool to collect the quantitative data of the study in the quantitative research process. Similarly, qualitative data were explored using the semi-structured interview as the main tool.The study results showed that the majority of the pre-school teachers performed musical activities daily (64.1%). Among the main factors that seem to influence the frequency of music activity involvement, statistically significant differences were only seen between years of service and the age of the pre-school teachers. Some of the pre-school teachers' observations that would benefit from the more frequent implementation of activities from the field of music education were the presence of music educators in the pre-school classrooms, the organization of special training seminars, and providing schools with music education materials suitable for the implementation of relevant activities. Reference was also made to the need to adjust the regulations governing the operation of pre-school settings and the curriculum of the university departments of pre-school education with more music courses.

Salatiga Music Course is an institution that manages teaching and learning activities in terms of music and choir activities. So far, Salatiga Music Course institution in carrying out attendance and transaction activities is still done manually with a notebook so that problems occur such as frequent errors in the process of recording attendance and transactions caused by human error. Therefore, this study aims to provide a solution from problem that occurred with designing and building a website-based music course system. This music course system is designed using the waterfall method and built with the PHP programming language using the laravel framework and MySQL database. This music course system is expected can reduce human error so that it can increase effectiveness and efficiency in the attendance and transaction process and increase institutional performance.

A comparative study of college students’ attitudes before and after the introduction of Fuzhou tea-picking opera into course

This paper takes the music class of Fuzhou Preschool Normal College, Jiangxi Province, China as a case study to analyze the different attitudes of students to the traditional Chinese opera—Fuzhou tea-picking opera which has been introduced into the music class of the school, thus affecting the cultural inheritance effect. A total of 150 non-music major local college students were selected from three classes to carry out the music course inheritance practice for four months in Fuzhou Preschool Normal College. This study was divided into three stages, (a) student assessment, (b) teaching the lesson, (c) feedback and assessment. The aim of this study was to study the perceptions of students from Fuzhou Preschool Normal College, Jiangxi Province, China towards the art from of Fuzhou tea-picking opera, and to explore the factors affecting the learning attitudes of these students. Mixed-methods design was employed within the study. The study found that the implementation of the course significantly improved students’ positive attitude towards Fuzhou tea-picking opera. The implementation of the course played a positive role in promoting the inheritance of the tea-picking opera. Although this is a study on the inheritance of traditional Chinese music course, the ideas of course design and research results are applicable to other traditional Chinese music, and even to other countries which have needs for the inheritance of traditional music.

Development of the Online Nora Dance Training Curriculum

Development of the Online Nora Dance Curriculum is a developmental study aimed to investigate and promote an online Nora dance curriculum for youths and interested individuals. The curriculum was grounded on Hilden Taba’s concept of curricular development and coordinated in the development process by academics, local artists, experts in art and culture, and Nora dance performance. The study results suggested that the development of the online Nora Dance curriculum comprised 7 steps. The online Dance curriculum consisted of 4 underlined courses namely 1) Nora Dance Course featuring 9 lessons, 2) Nora Music Course featuring 5 lessons, 3) Nora Vocal Performance Course featuring 5 lessons, and 4) Pran Nora (a hunter figure in Nora) Course featuring 5 lessons. The curriculum puts a strong emphasis on self-paced learning to raise awareness and perception about Nora performance among youths and interested individuals. The effort shall solidify the exchange of knowledge, and establishment of cooperation and networks between the university, communities, and schools. This also serves as a process of disseminating and conserving art and culture and adjusting approaches to the promotion of art and culture in compliance with changes in the digital era.

Innovation of Flipped Classroom Teaching Mode in College Vocal Music Teaching

In the context of the new era, a new teaching mode, "flipped classroom", has emerged. The introduction of "flipped classroom" in vocal music teaching in colleges and universities is helpful to break through the traditional teaching mode, so that students can become passive into active in the process of learning, enhance their interest in independent learning, and then improve the teaching effect. The Enculturation Sasando At Haleluya Music Course Institute East Nusa Tenggara

Haleluya Music Course Institute is a music course intitute located in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara province which provides Sasando lessons and opportunities for students to take part in Sasando performances at festivals, government events and other events. This study aimed to investigate the history and enculturation of Sasando performances. The qualitative research method was implemented with these data collecting techniques, i.e., observation, interview, documentation and document study. The results of the initial research showed the functions of Sasando as an auxiliary, support or accompanist in a poetry reading (Sasando gives life to the poem being read). Mr. Djony Theedens is interested to develop the use of Sasando through a course institute to bestow the musical instrument for the younger generations and avoid its extinction. It is done through the teaching of this instrument from the older generation to the younger one. The teaching is done to prevent its extinction and pass on the knowledge to future generations. Apart from that, the enculturation process of Sasando is also carried out through Sasando performances by the students from the course institute. Through the performances, the enculturation of Sasando occurs. Further, the distribution of cultural values ​​also happens through the performances.
 
 
 

Wladimir Vogel e l’accoglienza dei musicisti nella Svizzera italiana tra le due guerre

Since the Risorgimento period, Italian Switzerland was known as a place that sometimes welcomed people persecuted by illiberal regimes. One of those who found refuge there during the Nazi-fascist period was Wladimir Vogel, a Russo-German composer who was taken in, first at Comologno (in the Onsernone Valley) and then at Ascona, in the home of Wladimir Rosenbaum and Aline Valangin. Having participated in the Workers’ Music Movement, he had to flee Berlin when Hitler came to power, and until after the war he was given only a Swiss tourist visa, not a work permit. It was a difficult situation, but he was helped by Aline Valangin, who later became his wife. She assisted him in organizing, at Comologno on 14 August 1936, a music course that hosted Willi Reich in a series of classes on twelve-tone music – the first occasion in Switzerland for examining Schoenberg’s method. Having come in contact with the Italian Swiss Radio in Lugano, Vogel was able to present some of his works. From that position, he was able to direct his efforts toward Italy, where he established an important relationship with Luigi Dallapiccola. The most significant initiative took place in Locarno on 12 December 1948, at the preparatory meeting for the First International Congress on Twelve-Tone Music, which was to be held in Milan, 4–7 May 1949, and which Vogel organized in collaboration with Riccardo Malipiero; this was the first occasion for an international meeting of “radical” composers.

THE MUSICAL CULTURE AND EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT IN THE TAVRIA GOVERNORATE IN THE SOUTH OF UKRAINE IN THE LATE 19th AND EARLY 20th CENTURIES

The article examines musical culture and education formation and development in the Tavria governorate in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This period in the Southern region of Ukraine is characterized as an era of social and cultural uplift, progressive changes in the educational system, and enhancing the role and place of music and singing in students’ education. Moreover, it is marked by increased attention of the governorate residents to the problems of musical and aesthetic education of children and youth, the growth of public and private educational initiatives, and the formation of general and professional music education.The article identifies the reasons for the greater intensity of the education system development in the Crimean districts compared to the mainland ones; it also provides statistical data on the people’s literacy and education rate in the Tavria governorate in the early 20th century. The article also explains the role of private musical institutions and the influence of the artistic intelligentsia, outstanding musicians and composers on the musical culture and education development in the region.The article highlights that in the late 19th century, Yalta became – to a certain extent – a cultural centre of the Tavria governorate due to its well-developed concert and theatre infrastructure. Yalta and Simferopol have become a focus of establishing public associations with outreach, organizational, musical and educational functions. Activities of the members of these musical societies in Crimean cities resulted in the opening of music courses and classes and one of the first people's music schools in the Russian Empire with free-of-charge tuition. Besides, they arranged public concerts, music evenings, and tours of prominent composers and musicians.The article provides a historical analysis of the establishment of branches of the Imperial Russian Musical Society (IRMS) in the Tavria governorate, the role of the IRMS in the concert, performance and educational activities, its impact on the cultural, educational and social processes in the South of Ukraine, in particular, the establishing the institution of a secondary level of professional musical education – the Simferopol Musical College.

Web Based Online Hybrid Teaching Method of Network Music Course

Today, with the rapid development of online course teaching, the demand for online courses is increasing day by day, and the demand for online mixed teaching of online music courses is also increasing rapidly. In the context of big data, the lengthy personalized screening process of users has become one of the problems to be solved. Based on Web data mining, an improved algorithm of hybrid hierarchical recommendation algorithm and genetic algorithm is used in the experiment, and compared with the other two algorithms in the experiment. The experimental results show that the average accuracy of the improved algorithm is 79.63% in the limited training times, and has better adaptability. It can be applied to the online hybrid teaching recommendation and screening of online music courses in dynamic changes.

Relationship Between the Acceptance of Multiframe Visualization Assisted Teaching Approach (VATA) Interactive With Student Interest and Motivation in Blended Learning Among Music Students in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris

Students in the 21st century have been through and dealing with various teaching technologies to acquire knowledge more quickly and accurately. The learning methods of music education especially in the subject of music can be taught using various learning platforms. Therefore, it is necessary for a student to diversify the learning approaches that are used in the classroom. Blended learning is a method that combines classroom interaction with the use of technology in the teaching and learning process. To facilitate blended learning in learning in music courses, this multiframe VATA interactive is one of the educational technology mediums to assist students in further improving the learning process effectiveness. The objective of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between the acceptance of multiframe VATA interactive with student motivation and student interest. This research will be conducted at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Tanjong Malim, Perak. The sample was selected based on a simple random sampling method whereby 237 samples will be collected from undergraduate bachelor music students. This study will utilize a correlational research design. The questionnaire with 46 items was adapted based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), Interest Driven Theory (IDC) and ARCS Motivation Theory. The study conceptualized acceptance of VATA in performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating conditions dimensions while conceiving student interest as having triggering interest, immersing interest and extending interest dimensions and student motivation with attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction dimensions. Descriptive and inferential statistics will be carried out for data analysis by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27. The findings will be provided further insights into what works in an open online environment as well as to fulfill learners’ needs and preferences.
