The knowledge of an English language is one of the crucial skills for any person in the field of sport. The multicultural diversity at international competitions and a large number of sports professionals working and competing worldwide created a bigger demand for a more adequate level of linguistic knowledge. Therefore, as a result of it, it is crucial to develop a model of learning English at the institutions of higher education where the focus will be on practicing the communication competence in the field of physical culture that would primarily be context based. This means that the learning environment and the curriculum should be organized in such a way that the students are placed in different situations where they will have real life simulations of the different situations in sport or training. The important part of this model would also be the cultural aspect of language learning which would contribute to the development of intercultural communicative competence.

The Hierarchical Order of Spaces in Arab Traditional Towns: The Case of Najd, Saudi Arabia

The built environment faces many challenges in accommodating multi-cultural diversity and migrating from the suburbs, which led to different places being isolated or neglected. Sub-identities established by a specific group of people become isolated and away from the shared identity that the built environment established for itself. We examine this issue in the Najdi built environment by examining how Najdi locals generated a holistic hierarchical order of specs. This paper argues that the spatial order encouraged locals to develop a shared and agreed mechanism while in parallel, it gave individuals the ability to modify their places without affecting that shared holistic spatial order.

GWAS-based polygenic risk scores for depression with clinical validation: methods and study design in the Russian population

Depression is one of the leading causes of decreased quality of life and social functioning of patients. In the context of preventive medicine, the prevention of depression becomes a priority. To achieve the goals of prevention, it is necessary to identify specific population risk groups - individuals with a high genetic risk of depression. The paper describes the project aimed at developing a genetic test system based on polygenic risk scores (PRS) for depression, considering the multi-ethnicity and multicultural diversity of the Russian population. As a result of the study, data on the genetic architecture of depression (GWAS) and PRS for depression will be obtained for the first time. The emergence of a genetic test system developed in the study of the Russian population and in the conditions of a constant decrease in the cost of genetic research will allow an effective transition to preventive medicine in the area of mental health.

The Role of Volunteering in the Integration of Roma Children in Schools-Lessons for the Republic of North Macedonia

Abstract Education (good teachers and good schools) is crucial for the successful integration of vulnerable groups in the society. Multicultural diversity presents an opportunity to make schools more inclusive, creative and open-minded. Although there are different projects and activities for Roma inclusion in schools, the number of Roma children attending formal education is still very low. Without having attended formal education, the chances for social exclusion are high and minimal for leading a self-defined life. To increase the rate of school registration and the rate for completion, long-term policy interventions and financial support from international donations are needed. This paper aims to analyze the general situation of Roma children and youth the age of pre-school education, primary and secondary education, as well as the engagement of youth in volunteering activities as a significant role in the inclusion of Roma children in schools. Engagement in volunteering activities can help young people to be more integrated into society, as through volunteering they gain valuable experiences, new skills, and competencies that can improve their employability possibilities and enhance their attitudes towards citizenship.

Restoring Image and Identity of Old City Kupang Through Visual Enhancement

The old city in Kupang is a dense area that has multicultural ethnicity with its history. With long historical background influenced by colonialism and multicultural diversity, the old city of Kupang has strong and unique images. This paper aims to find the image and the identity of the old city area in Kupang supported by using factors in Lynch’s theory of image of the city. This research using descriptive-qualitative research method and applied several data collection techniques such as field observation through walkthrough analysis and documentation. The research method has successfully identified the old city’s image and identity; (1) Soekarno Street and Siliwangi Street as the path element; (2) meeting point of main streets and streets around the old city area including Soekarno and Siliwangi street as nodes element; (3) Pancasila Monument identified as landmark element. The result of this study is important as a reference to enhance the visual quality of Kupang old city by strengthening the character of the image and identity of the old city area.

MULTICULTURAL COMPETENCE OF PROSPECTIVE PRESCHOOL TEACHERS IN PREDOMINANTLY MUSLIM COUNTRY

Prepared to teach young children in a multi-ethnic and religious society like in Indonesia, the prospective preschool teachers should have strong belief and practice in social justice and multiculturalism. However, this quality is not easily achievable by prospective teachers from ethnic and religious majority group, like Indonesian Muslim prospective preschool teachers who may have limited awareness and exposure to multicultural diversity. This study identified some existing multicultural competences of the participants before designing a training model to prepare prospective preschool teachers, to develop their multicultural competence. Data for this study were derived from the questionnaire and interview which reveal awareness, knowledge, and skill dimensions of multicultural competence. Findings show that the majority of the participants have a high level of multicultural awareness and indicate a difference in multicultural competence among different levels of students. Based on these findings and expert judgments, the study designs a training model to develop prospective preschool teachers’ multicultural competence which has the following sequence: systematic reflection, Socratic dialog, simulation, field practice, and reflection. The study also provides some recommendations on the inclusion of multicultural content into intracurricular and/or extracurricular activities as well as on testing and analyzing the effectiveness of the hypothetical training model resulted from this study.

PLOVDIV – THE CULTURAL CAPITAL OF BULGARIA

This paper is focused on the cultural diversity of Plovdiv city, Bulgaria that has been developed and preserved during the town’s existence and its impact of the cultural life across the country that eventually led to the election of the city as European Capital of Culture 2019. Several events not well known to the general public were key factors for the preservation of the multicultural appearance and diversity of the city. A review of the four-year framework of programmes, projects and events implemented under the project “European Capital of Culture” funded by European Union is presented. The aim of the article is to present an analysis of the possibilities and the specifics in the development of projects from the creative industries in the city.
 The article also reflects part of the results of an empirical survey conducted in the period 2017-2018 in the city of Plovdiv among 105 creative organizations through their managers. The purpose of the empirical study was to investigate the management profile of the art organizations, including the opportunities and capacities for developing and managing projects and using the European Union's creativity-related programs.

Streams of fun and cringe: talking about Snapchat as mediated affective practice

How do young people interpret and negotiate their sense of being affected in the context of social media use? Our study draws on recent theorizing that views affective practices as discursive, relational and imbued with power. We specifically address practices that users engage in as they pursue forms of digitally mediated emotional involvement when using Snapchat, an image-based social media application. Our data consist of focus group dialogues with Norwegian students aged 16–19, recruited from schools selected for socio-economic and multicultural diversity. Excerpts exemplify how Snapchat use is not only engagingly talked about, but also affects non-digital everyday interactions. The analysis illustrates how young people’s talk about Snapchat deploys various discursive objects that convey promises of happiness and well-being, and affords particular forms of subjectivity. Image-sharing practices, and how they are communicated and felt, are embedded in and reproduce social norms, yet also provide spaces of belonging.

Critical Care Nurses’ Experiences With Death and Dying: A South African Perspective

The aim of this study was to explore experiences of South African critical care nurses regarding grief, death and dying in a critical care environment. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews and was analyzed using Giorgi’s thematic data analysis method. Available literature suggests that critical care nurses have varied experiences in relation to their experiences in relation to end-of -life patient care. However, few studies have examined the involvement of South African intensive care nurses’ in caring for the dying patient, their grief, their reactions to death in the workplace and the extent to which their nursing practice is based on shared beliefs, experiences and attitudes. Findings from this study revealed many predisposing factors and circumstantial occurrences shaping both, the nature of care of the dying and subsequent grief that, affected the nurse. Repeated exposure to grief, leads to occupational stress and burn out, causing emotional disengagement from caring for the dying, which ultimately affect the quality of care rendered for both the dying patient and their family. Issues, such as communication, multicultural diversity, education and coping mechanisms are essential in nursing education and practice and nurses caring for the critically ill or dying patient, need to have support networks and strategies put in place, not only to assist in providing care, but also for their own emotional support and well-being.

New directions in evangelical Christianities

This article presents an analysis of some contemporary trends and developments in evangelical theologies and movements. This is of importance to members of Christian groups, Christian leaders and academics, since we have seen how forms of evangelicalism have shifted political realities, split historical denominations and altered global perspectives on Christianities. The article argues that contemporary trends and developments in evangelical theologies are mediated in relation to shifts in, and challenges to, social identity construction and the social location of evangelicals. This claim is illustrated by explicating some more notable examples of how evangelical theologies, and evangelical identities, operate in contemporary public life. It is shown that evangelical theologies have developed in relation to changes in views on gender identities, political identities, multiculturalism and religious diversity. These are relatable, in some ways, to the effects of globalization and the proliferation of social media. The article concludes with a discussion of two possible outcomes for evangelical theologies and evangelicalism.

The rise of Islam mentioned by some observers of Islamic studies (Islamic studies) in the country often brings its own anomalies. The awakening often brings effects and effects that are often not expected. For example, the strengthening of notions that have not been so deeply rooted in the country, such as the understanding of terrorism and radicalism. Elsewhere, intellectuals and reviewers of the relationship of religions offer other forms such as multiculturalism. These are the two most striking faces of the Milineal or 21st century religious model: the face of radical diversity and the face of multicultural diversity. The first requires a single interpretation, the second puts forward a pluralist interpretation. If the radical face looks fierce, hard, then the multicultural face is more polite and open. Both typologies are theoretically and practically very fluid, and not as strict as the binary opposition between black and white. But both of them are quite representative of the latest variants of religion that can be found in a variety of political discourses, scientific discussions, writings in the form of news and articles in the news, Tolkshow, and serasehan. Both models are even included in the study of religious studies are almost as popular as the terms "normativity" and "historicity"

Ethnic politics as an eternal clog in the wheels of politics:

The thrust of this paper is an examination into an essential and perhaps an overly underplayed character of Nigerian politics. Following a vast multi-cultural diversity crisscrossing Nigeria’s society, ethnic/divisional politics has saddled Nigeria's over 50 years of statehood, dictating and influencing dynamics in and around socio-political and economic spheres. Like in most developing states, this has dramatically undermined Nigeria’s politics overall growth and development, while limiting Nigeria’s potentials and national power. Adopting the Instrumentalist paradigm, this survey finds that although colonial legacies among other structures, entrenched and sustain ethnic politics in Nigeria, on the whole, politicians and personal interests stand as principal exploiters of the ever-growing defect in Nigeria’s polity. Current antecedents show that ethnic politics like in the past only holds more grave and dangerous spirals of conflict, political crises etc., of great magnitude going forward. Thus, robust and bold moves toward mitigating ethnic politics in Nigeria is of critical importance. Given this reality, this piece advocates more sincerity and commitment from all stakeholders: the government, individuals and the civil society. Also, qualitative investments must be made into political socialisation/education; while strengthening the institutions and activities that emphasise unity across the country. Philosophical Paradigm of Literary Translation: Phenomenon of Misunderstanding of ‘Other’ Word and Text

The paper analyzes philosophic aspects of the translator’s misunderstanding of the original text which always reflects cultural and mental experience of the ‘other’ system of literary thinking. The translator is a mediator, who not only tries to insert a literary word and a text into ‘our’ culture, but also depicts ‘other’ reality in terms of symbols and images of the ‘other’ system of national understanding of senses. It is obvious that there are a lot of mental and semantic differences and transformations between the original text and the translation. This is a problem with a specific metaphysical status, when the misunderstanding of the original text may be caused by a number of aspects, some of which lie outside the text itself and its translation. The search for the new forms of thinking beyond the traditional stereotypes of rationality and self-evidence of “cogito” creates a new approach to the tasks and the essence of literary translation. Today one may confidently say that a new ethics, psychology and aesthetics of literary translation were born. The postmodern crisis of communication, as well as multicultural diversity and transcultural dialogue stimulated new forms and mechanisms for representing ‘other’ cultural experience (the experience of the ‘other’ / ‘alien’). 
 According to the new paradigm of literary translation the translator must be focused on the philosophical aspects of the translation process. This is not only about the connection between the ‘subject’ and the ‘word’, or ‘thought’ and ‘experience’ that should have been reproduced in translation, but also about a specific metaphysical basis for the new process of thinking about a word and its role in overcoming the situation of misunderstanding of the ‘other’ literary text that presents other literary national tradition.
 The author of the paper comes to the conclusion that the phenomenon of misunderstanding of the ‘other’ word and text stems from the possibility of reading and rereading the text falsely. At the same time, the ‘misunderstanding’ of the original text gives an important chance to the translator for reading and rereading the original text alternatively.

Library Services for Divyangjan in the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons With Intellectual Disabilities

Disability is an increasing issue as never before. It is not just a health issue, it is a complex social phenomenon that separates a person from society. India, a country which is known for its multicultural diversity, leads as a top country in various assets. India is proactive in the disability sector ever since the subject of ‘disability’ was pointed out in the State List in the Seventh Schedule of Constitution. The Constitution of India mentions the word ‘citizen’ to cover all persons who legally belong to India. This article presents the library services provided by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (formerly National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped) for divyang users.

PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA PERMAINAN MONAYA UNTUK MENINGKATKAN PEMAHAMAN MULTIKULTURAL ANAK USIA 7-8 TAHUN

The purpose of this study is to improve the multicultural understanding of children aged 7-8 years through the MONAYA game media. MONAYA's game media is a game of Cultural Monopoly which has content of cultural or multicultural diversity and has printed on large banners and makes children as pawns using dice and supporting cards of large size so as to attract children's interest in teaching and learning activities and become wrong an alternative learning media. This study uses ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) methods and has been tested through one-on-one trials), small group trials and field group trials and has been validated by early childhood education experts, media experts and multicultural experts. There is an increase in the results of very high child pre-test and post-test and enthusiastic activities which indicate that the MONAYA game media is suitable to be used to increase multicultural understanding of children aged 7-8 years

The land of seven moles: Mexican culinary nationalism in an age of multiculturalism

ABSTRACTMole, a complex sauce of chiles and spices often served with turkey, has long been considered Mexico’s national dish, but as a symbol of culinary nationalism, its meanings have changed significantly over time. This article uses mole to examine elite and popular expressions of culinary nationalism that accompanied the rise of neoliberal multiculturalism in the 1990s. In particular, it considers the shift away from the city of Puebla’s singular mole poblano, which was adopted in the 1920s as a symbol of indigenismo, a somewhat misleadingly named program of ethnic assimilation that sought to create a unified, mestizo (mixed-race) nation, and toward the contemporary celebration of multicultural diversity among indigenous cuisines and populations in the state of Oaxaca, which has become known as the “Land of Seven Moles.”

Old Slogans Ringing Hollow? The Legacy of Social Engineering, Statebuilding and the ‘Dilemma of Difference’ in (Post-) Soviet Kyrgyzstan

ABSTRACTThis article illustrates the ‘dilemma of difference’ of post-conflict peacebuilding in the Kyrgyz Republic in Central Asia. Following inter-communal clashes in 2010, the country has received significant support in the form of peacebuilding and conflict prevention programmes and aid. Still, national policy makers retained their sovereignty and carried out peacebuilding in line with the country’s historical legacy and cultural specificities. I illustrate the ‘dilemma of difference’ precluding sustainable peacebuilding and conflict transformation in this context because, as Minow argues, difference and the disadvantage and stigma associated with it is either silenced and ignored or over-emphasised, leading to marginalisation through victimisation. I trace the establishment of a territorialised and essentialised understanding of ethnicity through the social transformations of Kyrgyzstan in the early Soviet and the post-Soviet period. I then show how, since the ‘2010 events’, authorities attempted to do peacebuilding and conflict prevention with appeals to multicultural peace and diversity through the Soviet-era idea of ‘people’s friendship’. Such efforts and corresponding peacebuilding initiatives in southern Kyrgyzstani communities face, as I show, inherent contradictions given exclusionary national-level language and cultural policies and a focus on donor satisfaction which serve to brush over reported tensions, exclusion and conflict.

Moderation and Civilization (A Historical Analysis on the Moderate Policy of the Rustamid Dynasty)

The Rustamid Dynasty (160-296 AH / 776-909 AD) was a remarkable Ibadite dynasty. Unfortunately, most of the historical works have paid little attention to the development of Islamic civilization during the Rustamid reign. This fact is very contrary to the study of Sunnite or Shi’ite dynasties. This paper shows that the Rustamids performed their moderate policy by giving great tolerance, freedom, and equality to all citizens who lived in their territory, especially in Tahert (part of Algeria) and Jabal Nafusah (part of Libya). Consequently, this moderate policy, which was encouraged by the moderate Ibadite doctrine, had influence on the establishment of Islamic civilization in the Maghrib. The Rustamids successively played a significant role in economic prosperity, intellectual development, and Islamization. Like the Rustamids, the plural society of Indonesia can obtain the achievements of civilization by maintaining their multicultural diversity. Hence, the Indonesian government, the Muslim organizations, and all of the Muslim people should promote tolerant Islamic teachings and support intellectual movement.
