In recent years, due to technological advancements and legislative changes, decision support systems have gained notable popularity in the maritime sector. Multicriteria decision-making tool, such as the PROMETHEE method, has become increasingly prevalent in this field, drawing the attention of academics and industry experts. This paper aims to provide a classification scheme and literature review of the PROMETHEE method in the maritime industry, focusing on the Portal of Croatian scientific and professional journals - Hrčak database. The scholarly papers are categorized according to the journal, methodology, criteria, software, study focus, and implications. By examining the trends and developments related to the PROMETHEE method in the maritime industry, this article contributes to extending the knowledge and understanding of decision-making processes in this sector. This review serves as a valuable reference point for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in the maritime industry, highlighting the main knowledge gaps in the field.
