An illustrative series of both general and specific objectives as applied to undergraduate dermatologic teaching is given in behavioral terms. Types and levels of learning are identified. The relationship of "core" programs to instructional objectives is presented. Such instructional objectives, selected or prepared by the faculties at teaching institutions, can (1) provide meaningful guides to student study, (2) help increase the motivation and educational efficiency of students and faculty, and (3) identify the knowledge and skills that a student should have if he is to consider himself, or be considered, proficient in cutaneous medicine.
