Development of linguistic institutional educational virtual environment at Moscow State Linguistic University (2016-2018)

Within the framework of The Government Contract (№ 214/102, № 27.9307.2017/ƃɥ) on the basis of E-Learning Centre, now the Laboratory for Fundamental and Applied Issues of Virtual Education at Moscow State Linguistic University there has recently been developed an institutional educational environment (IEVE) for commercial purpose, which consists of nodes – LMS Moodle foreign language courses. The aim of the programme is to devise a commercial model of distance teaching foreign languages that will secure an effective and efficient learning. Successful implementation of about twenty educational programmes of distance learning at MSLU has proved the effectiveness of management and the important role of information gathering with the aim of further expertise. For that purpose special software has been developed. Then some statistic data are given, proving the relevance of courses in different languages, monthly fluctuation of agreement making, the relevance of different types of courses, the relative percentage of students with more than one agreement ect. The results give reasons to believe that in terms of development prospects the major focus in the near future will be placed on increasing the number of taught languages and expanding the variety of educational programmes (with an important step being launching a programme of Russian as a foreign language), upgrading software products with a view to improving distant learning management.

Technical and Didactic Knowledge of the Moodle LMS in Higher Education. Beyond Functional Use

Higher education institutions at the international level have seen the need to adopt and integrate information and communication technologies to meet the opportunities and challenges of innovation in teaching and learning processes. This logic has led to the implementation of virtual learning environments called ‘Learning Management Systems’, the functionalities of which support flexible and active learning under a constructivist approach. This study measured didactic and technological use of Moodle and its implications in teaching from a quantitative approach by administering a questionnaire to a sample of 640 higher education teachers. Some guiding questions were as follows: Are teachers using the Moodle platform for didactic purposes? What strategies, resources and tools are teachers using, and what do they contribute to student-centred teaching? Are teaching strategies that are focused on collaboration, interaction and student autonomy promoted? The results coincide with those of other studies, confirming an instrumental and functional use of the platform, which is mainly being used as a repository for materials and information, while its pedagogical use remains limited. This is becoming a problem in higher education institutions, something that requires debate and reflection from a systemic perspective on the adoption and integration of technology in the classroom.

Historical and Biographical Approaches towards Teachers Training in Learning Physics Using Moodle LMS

This article describes the possibilities for applying the historical and biographical approaches during the blended physics courses taught by using the original electronic training courses. This article provides the original e-learning modules that were applied during the Pedagogical Education course at the Kazan Federal University in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. The training process was based on several different thematic blocks. Survey was conducted after the success testing. This survey has revealed that the historical and biographical approaches to teaching physics by means of the MOODLE LMS allow the teachers to increase the interest not only to this course, but also to the history of its development. In percentage terms, 39.7% of students have noted an increased level of motivation for independent activity. The original online courses will come in handy to design new physics curricula for online teaching and learning in other countries.

THE FEATURES OF ORGANIZING BLENDED LEARNING USING LMS MOODLE

The technology of blended learning is one of the modern trends in education both in the world and in Russia. The article explores the various possibilities of blended learning technology. As a means of implementing online learning, it is proposed to use LMS Moodle, which is widely used among educational organizations. The categorization of the main elements of Moodle from the perspective of the organization of pedagogical control, forms of presentation of teaching materials is presented. Examples of the use of basic resources and elements of Moodle in the educational process are given. The interactive properties of individual elements those allow you to more effectively implement online learning in blended learning technology are revealed. An approach is proposed to understand the essence of blended learning technology as a technology that allows to activate a student’s activities in the framework of full-time education by using online training and transferring (from full-time education) those activities that students are able to implement in the absence of a teacher.

Blended learning development for vocational education

In general, face-to-face learning seems to have become part of the learning system, regardless of its weakness and strengths. Some of the disadvantages of face-to-face traditional learning can be covered with the advantages of distance learning systems, and vice versa. The integration of face-to-face traditional learning system with distance learning is called blended learning. For this matter, Moodle LMS can be used as a tool for support distance learning. Research method used is base design research. The developed blended learning has validated by 2 experts (material and media validator). As a result, (the validation of media experts 82.05 and validation of material experts 80).

Online Classes in Musical Culture for General-Education High-School Students in Moodle LMS

Distance learning can be equally successful as the traditional classes, if appropriate teaching methods, technologies, etc. are applied. This paper is aimed at presenting the prospects of developing, managing, and assessing the online teaching process using the web application Moodle LMS in the musical culture classes in a general-education high school, the way in which students acquire knowledge, and what their role is in online classes using Moodle LMS.

Online Education at Voronezh State University

The article describes the state of online learning at Voronezh State University and presents general information about its main components, such as e- library resources, electronic system for education process management, and the university’s online courses. Since 2001 the University is a participant of the scientific and technological program “Creation of the open education system in the Russian Federation”. Within the framework of this program an informational and educational portal Voronezh. OpeNet.ru − “Voronezh virtual university” has been established, which is a part of the mega-portal of the Russian informational and educational environment of open education (www.OpeNet.ru). In 2007 the University has started the work for implementation of network education based on LMS Moodle. Online education is being realized on three levels: e-library resources, organization of educational process (“Electronic University”), and online courses (distant courses, university online courses, and open online courses). Distant courses include 59 courses on ecology and learning foreign languages worked out in the framework of Tempus project. At present Voronezh State University is developing its own open online courses (MOOC) using the experience of Tomsk State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. The implementation of online learning makes it possible to realize two main principles of modern education − “education for everybody” and “lifelong education”.

Personalized e-course implementation in university environment

Abstract The paper deals with the issue of e-courses personalization in selected LMS. Even though this topic has been the subject of research for a longer time, more effective concepts of learning through e-courses are still being sought. Part of the contribution is a brief explanation of the terms personalization and adaptivity, which are often mistaken or regarded as equivalent in practice. An overview of the current issue provides to reader concrete solutions to a personalized approach to education through the LMS Moodle. For purposes of research, LMS Moodle is used, which fulfils the conditions for meeting the goal of the research problem. SWOT analysis has been selected as an auxiliary tool for implementing the personalized e-course in the university environment. Further, the paper deals with the principles of creating an e-learning course as well as with the proposal of a specific methodology and its implementation in LMS Moodle. The results and findings from the research conducted so far are also available. The conclusion of the contribution deals with the summary of the results and findings as well as the further tendency in this field.

DISTANCE LEARNING OF FUTURE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS AS A PREREQUISITE OF THEIR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGHOUT LIFE

The article demonstrates the expediency and ways of organizing distance training of future primary school teachers: forming theoretical knowledge and skills basis in students for the mastery and effective use of computer devices and information and communication technologies in professional activities and the fundamentals of information culture, information and communication competence; establishing a foundation for further mastery of teaching curriculum and technologies of distance learning in the area of primary education; as well as implementing the electronic learning courses Modern Information Technologies of Learning and The Fundamentals of Distance Learning in Primary School (developed at LMS Moodle). It is noted that the distance training of a future primary school teacher is an interdisciplinary pedagogic category that characterizes the degree of individualization, intensity and controllability, is subjected to the goals of the professional development of independent cognitive activities of teachers based on information and communication technology means with the indirect interaction (synchronous and asynchronous) with learning process participants located remotely from one another, under the supervision of a tutor. The readiness of the future primary school teacher to distance learning in the system of pedagogical education as an integral property of the individual, reflecting the comprehensive interaction of the motivational and value, cognitive and operational components, is determined. An experimental study was carried out; its results showed that the implementation of such distance courses into the educational process of experimental groups enabled a positive dynamics of the levels of future primary school teachers’ readiness to develop their own vocational and pedagogical competence in the conditions of distance learning. In the experimental groups of future primary school teachers compared with the control ones, the increase in the indicators of high readiness for distance learning was observed.

FORMATION OF STUDENT’S COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN THE PROCESS OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING ON THE BASIS OF LMS MOODLE

According to the Federal state educational standard, studying foreign languages is aimed at achieving goals, connected with developing communicative competency, ability and readiness for independent continuous learning a foreign language and using a foreign language in other fields of knowledge. With this objective in mind, the paper evaluates the efficiency of using LMS Moodle resources in teaching and stresses their role for modern language development in general. The paper also mentions the vital importance of using a foreign language in professional training of future specialists. It points out that using LMS Moodle in teaching implies developing communicative competence of engineering students.The paper presents the results of research, aimed at studying the essence of such notions as «communicative competence» and «foreign language communicative competence». It also determines the methodological basis of the research, comprised by pedagogical and psychological theories and Russian and foreign theories of professional education and the concept of pedagogical integration. The analysis of research allowed to identify the structure of communicative competency, noting its variety, as well as the composition of foreign language speaking communicative competency by characterizing its constituent competencies.The paper also mentions the advantages of LMS Moodle platform, used in teaching English in engineering higher educational institutions, and points to the viability of using blended learning. The paper presents planning of classes on particular topics and identifying kinds of teaching activities and means of students’ knowledge and skills control using LMS Moodle interactive tools.

Место предметно-языкового интегрированного обучения в обучении вузовской дисциплине «иностранный язык в профессиональной деятельности»

Данная статья рассматривает актуальные междисциплинарные вопросы гуманитарного знания, связанные с изучением и формированием языковой компетенции студентов, профессионально-ориентированному обучению иностранного языка и преподаванием профессиональных дисциплин с помощью иностранного языка. Статья раскрывает опыт создания интерактивного обучающего учебника по введению в программную дисциплину «Базы данных», описывается его структура, содержание и другие аспекты его разработки и практического использования. В статье представлен пример использования современной интерактивной технологии интегрированного предметно-языкового обучения CLIL с использованием образовательной платформы LMS MOODLE , а также раскрыты характеристики данной платформы, способствующие эффективному развитию профессиональных и лингвистических компетенций студентов. Особое внимание уделяется тому, что предметно-языковое обучение занимает в вузовской практике определенную нишу, формирующуюся отдельными преподавателями, одинаково владеющими как своей профессиональной дисциплиной, так и иностранным языком. В статье делается вывод о том, что в целом предметно-языковое интегрированное обучение является полезным и востребованным направлением, способствующим созданию условий для продуктивного освоения профессионально-значимой информации дисциплин различного цикла с помощью иностранного языка, созданию условий для самореализации и саморазвития человека.

Развитие методической компетентности учителя иностранного языка в условиях дистанционного курса повышения квалификации

Instructional competence of a foreign language teacher is one of his/her most important professional features. The baseline of instructional competence training is a higher educational establishment. Refresher courses, which are increasingly distance ones, play a significant role in its further development. However, due to a certain inconsistency, a lot of items of distance courses delivery require a special consideration. The objective of the study is to analyze the facilities of a distance refresher course when developing instructional competence of a foreign language teacher. The following results are obtained: the contents and structure of instructional competence of a foreign language teacher are specified; the advantages and disadvantages of distance refresher courses for foreign languages teachers are brought out; the peculiarities of creation and the possible contents of a distance course on the basis of LMS Moodle consisting of theoretical, practical and control units are revealed. The conclusion about the efficacy of a distance refresher course in the development of instructional competence of a foreign language teacher is drawn.

Bridging the gap between informatics and medicine upon medical school entry: Implementing a course on the Applicative Use of ICT.

Education is undergoing profound changes due to permanent technological innovations. This paper reports the results of a pilot study aimed at developing, implementing and evaluating the course, "Applicative Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Medicine," upon medical school entry. The Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, introduced a curriculum reform in 2014 that included the implementation of the course, “Applicative Use of ICT in Medicine” for first year medical students. The course was designed using a blended learning format to introduce the concepts of Web-based learning environments. Data regarding student knowledge, use and attitudes towards ICT were prospectively collected for the classes of 2015/16 and 2016/17. The teaching approach was supported by multimedia didactic materials using Moodle LMS. The overall quality of the course was also assessed. The five level Likert scale was used to measure attitudes related to ICT. In total, 1110 students were assessed upon medical school entry. A small number of students (19%) had previous experience with e-learning. Students were largely in agreement that informatics is needed in medical education, and that it is also useful for doctors (4.1±1.0 and 4.1±0.9, respectively). Ability in informatics and use of the Internet in education in the adjusted multivariate regression model were significantly associated with positive student attitudes toward ICT. More than 80% of students stated that they had learned to evaluate medical information and would use the Internet to search medical literature as an additional source for education. The majority of students (77%) agreed that a blended learning approach facilitates access to learning materials and enables time independent learning (72%). Implementing the blended learning course, "Applicative Use of ICT in Medicine," may bridge the gap between medicine and informatics upon medical school entry. Students displayed positive attitudes towards using ICT and gained adequate skills necessary to function effectively in an information-rich environment.

ПРО ЗАСОБИ СДО MOODLE ДЛЯ ПІДГОТОВИКИ НАВЧАЛЬНИХ МАТЕРІАЛІВ ДЛЯ КУРСІВ ХІМІЧНОГО ТА ФАРМАЦЕВТИЧНОГО СПРЯМУВАННЯ

Мета роботи – представити досвід авторів щодо налагодження СДО Moodle для підготовки навчальних матеріалів з курсів хімічного та фармацевтичного спрямування з використанням додатків (плагінів) WIRIS для текстового редактора ATTO СДО Moodle.
 Основна частина. Підкреслено важливість інформатизації медичної освіти. Показано актуальність застосування вільно-розповсюджуваного програмного забезпечення з відкритим кодом при інформатизації навчального процесу медичного ВНЗ.
 Показано досвід використання СДО Moodle в ДВНЗ “Тернопільський державний медичний університет імені І. Я. Горбачевського МОЗ України”.
 Для проведення дослідження розгорнуто тестове середовище у вигляді віртуальної машини в мережному кластері ТДМУ, на якому було встановлено адаптовану А. В. Семенцем згідно з вимогами ТДМУ версію СДО Moodle, під керуванням серверної версії ОС Ubuntu.
 Проаналізовано можливості адаптації СДО Moodle до особливостей навчального процесу при викладанні окремих дисциплін та курсів, зокрема як хімічного та фармацевтичного, так і математичного спрямування. Встановлено окремі складнощі при застосуванні мови TEX для підготовки навчальних матеріалів СДО Moodle.
 Запропоновано використання набору додатків (плагінів) WIRIS для текстового редактора ATTО для підготовки навчальних матеріалів, що містять хімічні формули та схеми реакцій.
 Показано процес налагодження СДО Moodle для використання набору плагінів WIRIS для текстового редактора ATTO. Представлено результати удосконалення процесу розробки навчальних матеріалів з курсів хімічного та фармацевтичного спрямування з застосуванням вказаних плагінів. Наведено приклад розробки освітнього контенту, що містить хімічні формули, із застосуванням можливостей плагінів WIRIS у текстовому редакторі ATTO СДО Moodle. Показано спосіб створення двомірних представлень хімічних структур та проекцій Фішера засобами вказаного візуального редактора.
 Висновки. Представлено переваги використання додатків (плагінів) WIRIS для текстового редактора ATTO СДО Moodle для підготовки навчальних матеріалів з хімічних та фармацевтичних дисциплін, що містять велику кількість хімічних формул та схем реакцій. Аргументовано перспективність застосування мови TEX для підготовки професійної документації з великою кількістю хімічних формул.

Study of the Prospects of Introducing Mixed Learning in Higher Education

The expediency of introduction of mixed forms of studying in higher educational institutions is considered. The opinion and the current state of the application of mixed forms of teaching among the teachers of the department of computer technologies in the management and teaching of the Berdyansk State Pedagogical University have been studied. With this purpose, a questionnaire and an analysis of the results obtained were held. Considerable attention was paid to the study of the following issues: Is it appropriate to use mixed learning in the preparation of bachelors and masters? Do you use mixed learning in your professional activity? During which of your classes, do you often use distance learning platforms to organize mixed learning? Which distance platforms do you use during lectures? What kind of remote platforms do you use during laboratory tests? Which distance platforms do you use during practical classes? What are the main benefits of mixed learning can you mention? What are the main disadvantages of mixed learning?
 In the article a meaningful analysis of the results of the study was conducted. The obtained results are presented with the help of histograms and graphs on the basis of which the following conclusions have been made: currently mixed learning is rapidly developing and is popular among the target audience. Most often yogis are used in the learning process during laboratory work. The most commonly used remote LMS Moodle and Google services platforms were identified with a view to further development of methodological recommendations for their use by practitioners of higher education institutions. The advantages and disadvantages faced by teachers in their practical activities have been explored and they highlight the opportunity to teach a large number of students, provide a quality control and quickly obtain learning outcomes that significantly accelerates the process of learning. Among the disadvantages of possible technical difficulties in deficiencies attention should be paid to their prevention. On the basis of the accomplished research, it was concluded that the subject under investigation is relevant and needs further improvement.

The Use of E-Portfolio for Improving Students’ English Skills: A Pilot Study in English Department, The State Polytechnic of Padang

ne"> This research addresses the use of technology, especially information technology, by promoting the use of electronicportfolio (e-portfolio) for improving students' English skills. Some experts have suggested the use of e-portfolio for students inindependent learning activities and others proposed this as one of alternative assessment tools. Barret (2005) defines e-portfolio as thestore to collect and organize portfolio artifacts in many types of electronic media such as audio, video, graphic, and text; it usuallyuses hypertext links to manage the materials, connect evidence to appropriate outcomes, goals or standards. However, the term of eportfolio has not been popular among English teachers in Indonesia, especially in English Department of the State Polytechnic ofPadang, although some lecturers in this institution have been using social media in giving instructions, collecting assignments andgiving feedback to students. Moodle LMS has been applied as a platform for the e-portfolio in this research. This research examineswhether the use of e-portfolio improves students’ English skills. The English skills include four skills: Listening, Reading, Speaking,and Writing. An experimental research design will be employed. More specifically, this article discusses the students’ responsestoward the use of Moodle LMS in their learning. The questionnaire was distributed to students to find out their perceptions aboutMoodle LMS. It was found that 64.62% of the responses indicates positive perceptions. In other words, the students gave positiveresponses to the use of Moodle LMS. It can be concluded that Moodle LMS is considered to be used supporting the use of e-Portfolioin the next main study, which will be conducted as an experimental study.

SOME FEATURES OF THE USE OF DISTANCE LEARNING SYSTEMS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ENTERPRISE STAFF QUALIFICATION

The enterprises have a constant need both in increasing the productivity of their employees and in improving the overall quality of staff in modern conditions. One way to achieve this goal is to select new employees who are the most skilled and capable of solving the tasks. However, in practice, highly skilled personnel are missing and the enterprise is forced to conduct programs of systematic training of employees, bringing their qualifications to the required level and, at the same time, helping fully disclose the capabilities of the employee in the team. Taking into account the foregoing, it is necessary to use information technologies and distance learning systems for the implementation of advanced training programs. Therefore, we need the learning management system for the organization of a system of training and advanced training for a company with a territorially distributed structure and a large range of activities and the ability to modify the content. The LMS Moodle is expedient apply. The LMS Moodle was selected as a platform for the information system of PJSC Koelner-Ukraine. When developing the structure of the distance education system the information field was divided into the directions of the firm and took into account all divisions of the company and their interaction with each other. The procedure for studying discipline is also important concerning such factors as the period for each subject, the discipline in general, and the timing of the passing of the current and final control. This approach disciplines employees and they successfully complete the study, which is the basis for career growth, and is an additional motivation for continuous improvement of their qualifications. Thus, the developed system of distance education is effective in the following cases: when a person enters the firm; when an employee is appointed to a new post or when he is assigned a new job; when the test establishes that a person lacks certain skills to effectively perform his work. When the strategy of this project had been built, it turned out to be interesting to attract existing and potential customers to this system. Increasing client awareness is an important aspect of modern business.

Use of LMS Moodle in training foreign language at institutions of higher education (experience of Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University)

The author describes the advantages of working with the LMS Moodle system when teaching a foreign language at institutions of higher education, relying on her own experience in creating and introducing in the educational process of Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University electronic courses in the discipline “Foreign Language”. Broad information and communication technologies as well as pedagogical capabilities of the Moodle system are considered as a whole, and a certain methodology for working with the most promising tools of LMS Moodle system to create an electronic course “Foreign Language” is suggested and justified. The author demonstrates how a foreign language teacher can place teaching and controlling materials in an effective interactive form, introduce an unlimited number of additional materials, improve the quality of trainees’ self-control when dealing with educational material, and provide an objective control over the assimilation of educational material by students. The author comes to the conclusion about the expediency of using Moodle e-courses “Foreign Language” in the educational process of the university, along with the traditional form of teaching a foreign language.

APPLICATION OF CLOUD-BASED LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES IN THE ORGANIZATION STUDENTS’ RESEARCH WORK

The principal aim of research is to develop a mechanism for the organization of research work of students toward mastery of ICT literacy. In the article it has been formed the model of students’ research work organization in the learning process of informatics disciplines; produced the algorithm of cloud-based learning technologies application in the organization of history students’ research work; described recommendations for the structure and the content of e-learning materials in the study of cloud-based learning technologies (as a part of the training course in LMS Moodle). The several recommendations can be made on the basis of performed experience analysis of implementing a cloud oriented technologies of Informatics disciplines among the different specialties. It is advisable to use the model-table "Using a cloud oriented technologies of teaching", with appropriate adaptation to scientific-pedagogical and logistical capacity of a particular educational institution (specific structural unit or Department). The introduction of the designated model promotes: productive activity of students; autonomy of learning and the maximum approximation of the accumulated experience to the requirements of the labour market; the formation of an active research position of the project participants; the formation of students ‘ critical thinking by phased activation of the operations of thinking. Using the model need to be creative in overcoming some negative aspects: to develop the motivational aspect of attracting students to research activities; to form the definition of future student’s research activities; to maximize the interaction of science with the educational process and with the requirements of the labour market; to overcome the stereotype that not all students should be involved in scientific work.

Tables as protocol for mass tests input in the Latin and other languages teacher’s personal information system interface: integrated technology for Word, Excel, Quizlet, Gift and Moodle

Under investigation is the combined use of the LMS MOODLE and special language teaching tools like QUIZLET. The core is the task of unification of the mass tests format and their import into LMS. The initial form of test arrays are WORD lists or EXCEL spreadsheets. The table structure of the AIST interface is proposed. The automated process of arrays converting from WORD and EXCEL tables to GIFT files for import into the MOODLE and QUIZLET is described. Shown that the use of the tabular interface makes anyone possible to implement an effective technology of mass test import into various language LMS.
